Die Einstellung von Simulated-Moving-Bed-Anlagen mit Hilfe des Coherence-Konzepts

Fur die Trennung binarer Gemische wird zunehmend das Simulated Moving Bed (SMB)-Verfahren verwendet. Fur einen storungsfreien Betrieb mussen die Volumenstrome sowie die Umschaltzeit exakt eingestellt werden. In diesem Beitrag wird mit Hilfe des Coherence-Konzepts eine Methode aufgezeigt, mit der sich die Stellgroen fur einen dispersionsfreien SMB-Prozess bestimmen lassen. Fur Langmuir- und Anti-Langmuir-Isotherme konnen einfache explizite Gleichungen bei vollstandiger Trennung angegeben werden. Das Grundprinzip dieser Methode lasst sich auch auf andere Isotherme sowie fur die unvollstandige Trennung ubertragen.

Weld integrity of the superconducting cable aluminium jackets of W7-X

The Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) modular stellarator is under construction at the Max-Planck-Institut fur Plasmaphysik in Greifswald, Germany. The W7-X magnet system contains 70 coils made up from helium cooled superconducting cables in aluminium alloy (EN AW-6063) jackets. Several hundred connections of the jacket to the cable joints are made by aluminium-to-aluminium welds. Due to geometrical and thermal boundary conditions these welds cannot be accomplished free from defects. Microscopic analyses of the welds show that a variety of small flaws such as cracks and pores develop during welding. The welds have thus to be dimensioned accordingly, and appropriate weld qualification, investigation and testing has to be done in order not to jeopardise the structural integrity and leak tightness. Influence of mass transfer on thermogravimetric analysis of combustion and gasification reactivity of coke

Non-isothermal TG/DTG measurements are widely used to determine kinetic parameters of oxidation and gasification of carbons, e.g. by multi-heating rate methods. Thereby it is important to avoid spurious effects due to diffusion limitations. In this work, TG/DTG experiments with activated carbon were conducted under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions. The agreement of the experimental results with results of simulations based on the intrinsic kinetics, pore diffusion and external diffusion in/to the sample (crucible) is very good. The simulations show that mass transfer has an unwanted influence on TG measurements, if the concentration of the gaseous reactant (O2 and CO2) is too low and/or the heating rate is too high. Visits were made to selected manufacturing units with 25 or more employees. Information was gathered on energy consumption and advice was given on the opportunities available for improving the efficiency of energy use. Potential energy savings are estimated and recommendations are made on the action that should be taken to improve the efficiency of energy use. In the footwear industry space heating controls, improvements in boiler plant and steam services along with building insulation provide most of the savings potential. In the leather industries major energy saving opportunities can be found in low-temperature drying, and heat recovery, where the use of heat pumps could contribute substantial savings in drying and process water heating. Boiler controls and good housekeeping are areas where firms can make worthwhile savings at very little capital cost. (MCW)

Trapezblechstege im Bruckenbau kommen trotz der groen Vorteile, die diese Bauweise bietet, in Deutschland bisher nur an einem Pilotprojekt zur Anwendung. Durch die charakteristischen Eigenschaften des Trapezbleches entstehen konstruktive und wirtschaftliche Vorteile gegenuber herkommlichen Bruckenbauweisen. Allerdings lassen die aktuell gultigen Regelwerke aufgrund fehlender Kenntnis zum Tragverhalten und mangelnder Erfahrung keine wirtschaftliche Ausbildung zu. Dies zeigt sich am Beispiel des Pilotprojekts. Subject of this study is the question of whether cone beam CT (CBCT) images with reduced projection data are suitable for use in adaptive radiation therapy (ART) treatment planning. For this purpose image quality and dose calculation accuracy depending on imaging modality were analysed. Optische Uhren nutzen die Anregung optischer Ubergange in neutralen Atomen oder Ionen. Deren Ubergangsfrequenz liegt bei etwa 1015 Hz, also funf Groenordnungen oberhalb der Gigahertz-Schwingungen heutiger Atomuhren. Das erlaubt eine bis zu tausendmal prazisere Zeitmessung. Fur die Genauigkeit ist es entscheidend, dass der Uhrenubergang eine schmale Linienbreite besitzt und seine Frequenz nicht verschoben wird. Dazu mussen die Atome oder Ionen moglichst ungestort und genau lokalisiert sein. Deshalb basiert ein Uhrentyp auf einem kalten Ion in einer Paul-Falle, ein anderer Uhrentyp arbeitet mit vielen kalten Neutralatomen in optischen Gittern.
