Some time ago, E. C. G. Stueckelberg has demonstrated [Helv. Phys. Acta 14 (1941) 588, Helv. Phys. Acta 14 (1941) 322, Helv. Phys. Acta 15 (1942) 22, Phys. Rev. 10 (1957) 254] that it is possible to construct a classical and quantum relativistic mechanics theory considering electromagnetic and gravitational interactions if in the Einstein's theory time is considered as a dynamical variable. This theory forgot for many decades, is able to predict the pair particle production as well as the annihilation in classical relativistic mechanics without use of the quantum theory. The motion of an event in space-time is a free universe line. The interaction could bend this world line and then moves on to the possibility that world line can bend so much that it curves back in time. In this theory, an object moving backward in time would appear to have opposite charge if it is thought as having positive energy and therefore is identified as an antiparticle. This interpretation was used later by Feynman in his diagrams. Stueckelberg's theory contains some problems of interpretation, but some possible new consequences are remarkable. In this contribution, some phenomenological considerations of the theory are discussed in the frame of the classical hypothesis. If the time is a dynamical variable, thus the mass of particle must be also considered as independent dynamical variable. Thus it is possible to understand how gravity, electromagnetic and other possible interactions could influence the particle mass (and lifetime) and to estimate the differences between particle and antiparticle due to interactions, if they exist. Full Text Available The present study was carried out in Lake Dom Helvécio, in the state of Minas Gerais, with two main objectives: to demonstrate the contribution of the littoral zone, in order to better characterize zooplankton fauna; and to assess the distribution of zooplankton species in different habitats, i.e., the littoral zone with and without aquatic vegetation. The samples were collected in February and July 2006, throughout the littoral zone of the lake, in areas with and without aquatic vegetation. We identified a total of 188 species, of which 130 are new records for Lake Dom Helvécio. One hundred and eighty-four species were identified in the littoral zone with aquatic vegetation, and 117 in the zone with no vegetation. The higher zooplankton richness in areas of the littoral zone with aquatic vegetation can be related to the greater environmental heterogeneity. Compared to previous studies on the littoral zones of lakes along the middle River Doce, the present study expended greater sampling effort, and identified many more species. In relation to biological conservation, this study demonstrated the importance of the littoral zone for better characterization and conservation of the zooplankton fauna, especially when it is colonized by aquatic vegetation. Underestimating the richness of species may provide inaccurate data on the biota, as well as on the ecological conditions in an environment.

Full Text Available The presence of the two exotic zooplankton species (Kellicottia bostoniensis and Mesocyclops ogunnus in lakes of the Middle River Doce is discussed in the present work. K. bostoniensis was registered in Lakes Jacaré, Carioca and Águas Claras while M. ogunnus was restricted to the littoral zone of Lake Dom Helvécio. These zooplankton species may have been introduced in these environments by human action. Despite the low densities registered for both species, the monitoring of the invasion process is necessary to evaluate possible impacts on the zooplankton community structure in the lakes of Middle River Doce.A presença de duas espécies zooplanctônicas exóticas (Kellicottia bostoniensis e Mesocyclops ogunnus em lagos do Médio Rio Doce é discutida no presente trabalho. K. bostoniensis foi registrada nas lagoas Jacaré, Carioca e Águas Claras, enquanto M. ogunnus esteve restrita a região litorânea do Lago Dom Helvécio. Estas espécies zooplanctônicas podem ter sido introduzidas nestes ambientes pela ação antrópica. Apesar das baixas densidades observadas para as duas espécies, o monitoramento do processo de invasão é necessário para avaliar os possíveis impactos sobre a estruturação da comunidade zooplanctônica nos lagos do Médio Rio Doce.

Full Text Available El presente trabajo presenta un estudio etnolingüístico de tres comunidades afroparaguayas: Emboscada (fundada en el siglo XVIII por pardos libres y Camba Cua y Laurelty (fundadas en el siglo XIX por soldados negros libres que llegaron con el general uruguayo José Gervasio Artigas. Los datosconfirman la existencia de configuraciones lingüísticas que establecen vínculos claros con otras comunidades de habla afrohispánicas, entre ellas el Valle del Chota (Ecuador, los Yungas (Bolivia, Sama-Las Yaras (Perú, el Chocó (Colombia y Helvécia (Brasil. Entre las características claves sedestacan los plurales invariables y con una sola marca de plural (las persona, los militar, los verbos invariables para persona y número y la ausencia del género nominal femenino (loh mujere, algún comida. -- The present work offers an ethnolinguistic study of three Afro-Paraguayan communities: Emboscada (founded in the 18th century by free blacks, and Camba Cua and Laurelty (founded in the 19th century byfree black soldiers who arrived with the Uruguayan general José Gervasio Artigas. Full Text Available O presente estudo visa descrever um possível contínuo de variação de gênero do crioulo falado em Cabo Verde ao português falado atualmente no Brasil, tanto na zona urbana, quanto nas comunidades rurais afrodescendentes de Muquém (situada em Alagoas, mais especificamente em União dos Palmares, tida como o berço do Quilombo dos Palmares e de um momento histórico importante para a história do Brasil, e de Helvécia (localizada no Município de Nova Viçosa, na microrregião de Porto Seguro, extremo sul da Bahia. Com essa comparação, verificaram-se as semelhanças e diferenças na marcação do gênero, estabelecendo paralelos entre processos de mudança na morfossintaxe nessas comunidades que passaram por um amplo e profundo contato linguístico em sua história.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Concordância. Contato. Abstract The present study aims to describe a possible continuum of gender variation of the Creole spoken in Cape Verde to the Portuguese currently spoken in Brazil, both in the urban and in the rural Afro-descendant communities of Muquém (located in Alagoas, more specifically in União dos Palmares, considered the birthplace of the Quilombo dos Palmares and an important moment in the history of Brazil, and Helvécia (located in Nova Viçosa, in the microregion of Porto Seguro, southern Bahia. From the concept of generalized condensation [M. Van den Berg, J. T. Lewis, and J. V. Pulè, Helv. Phys. Acta 59, 1271 (1986)] it is known that two critical densities ρc and ρm exist for a free boson gas. Density ρc is the classical one and ρm is the critical density below which there can be no macroscopic occupation of ground state. A free boson gas is studied in a weak external potential which behaves asymptotically like ||x1||α1+||x2||α2+ṡṡṡ +||xd||αd near the origin. It is shown that there are only two possibilities to get ρc<ρm<∞, namely, α1=α2=∞ and d≥3 (this corresponds to Dirichlet boundary conditions), and α1=2 and d≥2 (i.e., a harmonic oscillator).

Full Text Available Parmi la multitude d’ouvrages qui traitent du luxe au xviiie siècle, deux  titres se signalent par une similitude frappante de contenu : Le comte de Valmont de Gérard et Le monarque accompli de Lanjuinais, publiés en 1774. Leur critique du luxe s’appuie en effet sur les mêmes citations, les mêmes morceaux célèbres, les mêmes formules frappantes de Montesquieu, Rousseau ou Helvétius. à se pencher sur les conditions de publication et les profils des deux auteurs, on se rend compte qu’il s’agit pourtant de deux ouvrages se situant aux antipodes l’un de l’autre au sein de l’espace de l’imprimé du xviiie siècle, mais aussi dans l’historiographie, roman apologétique s’inscrivant dans l’orthodoxie d’Ancien Régime pour l’un, « livre philosophique » considéré comme exemplaire d’une critique du luxe subversive pour l’autre. C’est en analysant de plus près les dispositifs d’écriture et l’usage des citations que l’on saisit la production de sens très contrastés à partir d’un matériau similaire.The Publication of Luxury in the Eighteenth Century: a Question of FormAmong the many eighteenth-century works on luxury, two stand out for their striking resemblances: Le comte de Valmont by Gérard and Le monarque accompli by Lanjuinais, both published in 1774. Both criticize luxury by referring to the same quotations, the same famous passages, the same salient sentences by Montesquieu, Rousseau or Helvétius. In the Closing Remarks at the Symposium on 'Frontiers in Bioorganic Chemistry' (Friday, February 6, 2009, Pharmacenter, University of Basel) in honour of Daniel Bellus, his arrival in Zürich in fall 1967 and especially his postdoctoral work at the Laboratorium für Organische Chemie at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) in Zürich throughout the year 1967/68 were mentioned. In his most remarkable paper (published in 1969 in Helv. Chim. Acta), the photochemistry of the alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclohexenones O-acetyl-testosterone and 10-methy-delta1,9-octalon-(2) is described in detail. Change of solvent leads to lowering or increasing of the n,pi*- and (pi,pi*)-triplet energies, resulting in a crossing of the two energy levels. Personal remarks on Daniel Bellus and warmest thanks to him, to Profs. Beat Ernst and Bernd Giese (the organizers of the symposium) and to all the speakers concluded this most special event.

La red de las comisiones extraparlamentarias (1910-2000: auge y declive de una expresión institucional del neocorporativismo helvético

Full Text Available Las comisiones extraparlamentarias son órganos administrativos que asumen tareas consultivas o ejecutivas para el Gobierno, pero que están compuestas, esencialmente, por personas ajenas a la Administración Federal. En este sentido, las comisiones están en tensión, entre una lógica de evaluación de competencias y una lógica de representación. A partir de un análisis estructural de redes, hemos podido distinguir estas dos lógicas poniendo de manifiesto, en particular, las especificidades de la segunda: así pues, hemos analizado, de acuerdo con un enfoque diacrónico que abarca cinco fechas del siglo XX (los años 1910, 1937, 1957, 1980 y 2000, la evolución de la morfología de los vínculos entre comisiones y actores a partir de los cuales se operan procesos de coordinación, de concesión y de negociación política. Nuestros estudios han mostrado que estos vínculos de “concordancia” se intensifican de forma continua entre 1910 y 1980, con una aceleración marcada a partir del fin de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Estos vínculos han sido desarrollados básicamente por las diferentes asociaciones de intereses y atañen casi exclusivamente a las políticas económicas y sociales. Es así como las CEP aparecen por esa fecha como una de las principales instituciones neocorporativistas de concordancia. No obstante, esta evolución se invierte considerablemente entre 1980 y 2000, con una disminución importante de este tipo de vínculos, lo cual cuestiona la lógica de coordinación de las comisiones. La explicación la hallamos principalmente en los factores siguientes: el proceso de reforma del sistema comisionista que se inicia en los años 70, el proceso de internacionalización que afecta a Suiza desde los años 80, y por último, un cambio de preferencias y de repertorio de acción de un cierto número de asociaciones económicas y sociales, que se alejan progresivamente de los mecanismos de cooperación transversal característicos de los regímenes neocorporativistas. No obstante, a pesar de esta evolución, un núcleo de concordancia se mantiene, sobre una base más limitada, en las asociaciones de intereses “tradicionales” respecto a algunas políticas económicas y sociales.

Full Text Available The herbarium BC-Trèmols was created during the second half of the 19th century by the Catalan chemist and botanist Frederic Trèmols Borrell. Between 1930 and 1960, the technician Antoni Marcos carried out a thorough review. The current collection consists of approximately 9000 specimen sheets; is made up of 58 volumes reordered by Marcos, two volumes with the original structure, four boxes of Hieracium and 85 boxes with additional material. Up to now 22 volumes and four boxes of Hieracium have been computerized (3695 specimens; we made an inventory at genus level of all volumes, and we computerized the original catalogue of the herbarium and the existing taxonomical fiches. We have also developed a preliminary inventory of the contents of the extra boxes. The analysis of these 3695 herbarium specimens clearly shows that it mainly consists of samples obtained by exchange (67.1% especially within the Société Helvétique pour l’Échange des Plantes and the Societat Botànica Barcelonesa. Among the materials studied we found two specimens regarded as interesting from a taxonomical and/or nomenclatural point of view (isotypes of Silene holzmanii Heldr. ex Boiss. and of Arenaria minutiflora Loscos. Therefore, the main interest of the herbarium lies in the diversity of the geographical provenance of plants, which makes of this collection one of the first “pan-European herbaria” in Catalonia.El herbario BC-Trèmols fue creado durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX por el químico y botánico catalán Frederic Trèmols i Borrell. On December 21 of 1965, the General Assembly of the United Nations sent out an alarm signal because of the constant manifestations of racial discrimination and because of the governmental policies based on racial superiority or hatred. Result of that assembly was an agreement which condemned all propaganda and all organisations based on the superiority of one race or groups of persons of a specific skin colour or ethnic origin. It declared as illegal all organised propaganda activities, and anyone that would promote the racial discrimination and incite to it. One year later, on December 16 of 1966, the same assembly announced another international agreement by which it prohibited any propaganda for war, any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that incites discrimination, hostility or violence. Both were widely accepted and internationally ratified. However, more than four decades later, we still stand between Zenith and Nadir. Also Switzerland was not immune to these manifestations of superiority and hatred. Its famous historical hospitality has been affected in recent years; on one hand, due to Swiss skepticism in accepting international law, and on the other, because of the rise of ultra conservative political parties, which, through their speeches and propaganda, have managed in numerous occasions, to incite against minorities by breaking the international law of human rights and the national law. Minorities, who they consider threatening to the Swiss cultural and historical values .

Full Text Available Abstract Aim: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of temporal coherence of limnological variables and pairs of lakes considering four tropical lakes of the Rio Doce State Park, using monthly data from the Long-Term Ecological Research Program (LTER between the years of 2004 to 2009. Methods Subsurface data (0.5 meters from the Carioca, Dom Helvécio, Gambazinho, and Jacaré Lakes were used in the analysis. We estimated the temporal coherence from the creation of time series for each of the variables. Through these series, we calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient between all pairs of lakes (N=6 and performed the average. We also analyzed the correlation between the temporal coherence found for the different pairs of lakes and two predictors of spatial patterns: proximity and exposure to climatic factors. The spatial proximity of the lake pairs was calculated in kilometers, and the exposure to climatic factors was estimated using two metrics: surface area and surface area/mean depth ratio. Results The largest temporal coherence levels were recorded for water temperature (0.97, pH (0.78, and dissolved organic carbon (DOC (0.74. The lowest levels were found for chlorophyll-a (0.25 and phytoplankton richness (-0.02. The average temporal coherence was 0.58. Different from other studies, no significant correlation was found between the synchronicity of the lake pairs and the differences in their exposure to climatic factors. Also, no relation was found with the spatial proximity. Conclusions Our results demonstrate the existence of temporal coherence in tropical lakes to compatible levels with those found in temperate regions. Our work contributes to the knowledge of how synchronicity works at different set of lakes and climatic regions.

Full Text Available The 18th century is the opening to cognitive progress (epistemology which becomes the core of historical progress. They were defined more precisely by Robert Turgot (1727-1781. Turgot’s lecture entitled Discours sur l´histoire universalle of 1750 significantly contributed to the notion of “progress”. The lecture presented a broad programme of historical studies whose object was humanity striving for perfection. Turgot’s programme was implemented by his friend Jean Antoine de Condorcet (1743-1794. He contained the interpretation of his programme of historical progress in Esquisse d´un tableau historique des progrés de l´esprit humain (A sketch of the picture of progress of human spirit through the ages. It was 1794 and in that year Condorcet was imprisoned. Jean Antoine de Condorcet proposed a secular mechanism of progress which was to take place through development of knowledge and science. In his outline of the development of humanity, Condorcet emphasised that the progress of humanity occurs because of efforts of people without interference of divine factors. Man is able to improve due to his own mind. The history of humanity is presented in his philosophy as a linear, continuous process taking place along a rising line, whereas the description of progress includes both past times and the future. In this way, Condorcet showed the perspective of further development of humanity in the direction of a system consistent with the law of nature and the complete elimination of suffering. This view of Condorcet motivated August Comte (1798-1857 when he built the “first philosophy”, and Claude Adrien Helvétius (1715-1771 and Paul Henry d´Holbach (1723-1789.

Seasonal changes in optical properties of two contrasting tropical freshwater systems

Full Text Available We investigated how allochthonous and autochthonous sources of dissolved organic matter (DOM affected the optical conditions and chemical characteristics of two contrasting tropical freshwater systems (Dom Helvécio-DH and Pampulha reservoir in a dry and rainy period in 2013. We analyzed PAR (photosynthetically active radiation and UV (ultraviolet attenuation coefficients, nutrients, chlorophyll-a (Chl-a, dissolved organic matter (DOC and spectral characteristics of CDOM (colored dissolved organic matter. Significant differences in CDOM sources and quantity were observed, with a dominantly terrestrial input in DH during the rainy period with approximately 50% higher DOC and Chl-a levels, and a doubling in total nitrogen (TN and total phosphorus (TP compared to the dry winter period. The eutrophic Pampulha had several fold higher levels of DOC, Chl-a, TN and TP, with organic matter of mostly originating from phytoplankton in both seasons. Differences in source and quantity had strong implications on water transparency, DOC concentrations, CDOM quality and its susceptibility to photo- and biodegradation. DH was several fold clearer in both the UV and PAR spectrum. In DH transparency to both UV and PAR radiation was highest during the summer, suggesting elevated photo- and biodegradation during stratification. Pampulha was most transparent in the dry period even during period of algal bloom. In both systems we observed seasonal variations in concentrations of nutrients and Chl-a, and in DH differences were also found in DOC concentrations as well as the specific UV absorbance (SUVA254 and molecular size (M. Our results documents that different sources of DOM and seasonal inputs reflect in the seasonality of apparent and inherent optical properties and nutrients availability with implications for water quality and aquatic community.

Full Text Available La construction européenne a redéfini la signification et les fonctions des frontières nationales. Cet article s’intéresse à cette mutation sous l’angle des pratiques des habitants de l’Arc jurassien franco-suisse. Une enquête par questionnaire a permis de mesurer l’intensité de certaines pratiques spatiales transfrontalières réalisées pendant le temps libre (achats, loisirs, etc. et d’en déterminer les logiques sous-jacentes. L’effet frontière se manifeste sous la forme d’un différentiel de prix (coût de la vie, taux de change, taxation de certains produits et d’un différentiel de connaissances (manque d’informations sur le pays voisin, habitude, etc. qui freinent ou incitent le franchissement de la frontière. L’effet frontière est toutefois atténué dans le contexte territorial étudié par un effet de centralité impliquant un différentiel d’offre (attraction des communes françaises à vocation résidentielle par les centres urbains helvétiques. La combinaison de ces effets explique l’intensité et l’orientation des pratiques spatiales transfrontalières.The European integration has been redefining the meaning and functions of national borders. This paper addresses this mutation from the perspective of the inhabitants’ spatial practices in the French-Swiss Jura region. Through a questionnaire survey we have measured the intensity of cross-border spatial practices done in the free time (purchasing, leisure, etc. and determined the underlying logics. The border effect appears in the form of a price differential (cost of living, exchange rate, taxation of some goods and a knowledge differential (lack of information on the neighbouring country, habits, etc. that curb or stimulate border crossing. The border effect is however mitigated in the spatial context under study by a centrality effect involving a supply differential (attraction of residential French municipalities by Swiss urban centres. . Rectangular wooden shields are allocated into a separate group. The lower edge of this shield was made oval. Wooden base of the shield had a thickness of 1 cm, and it was covered with cowhide. The shields covered with the leather of mountain goats, called Tarand in ancient sources, were of special value. The shield was held by means of two belt loops. One had passed through the forearm, and the other was held by the left hand. There are grounds to assume the presence of a pair of metal brackets on the back side of the shield used for holding the shield. The Scythians did not have centralized production of shields. This fact explains the diversity of forms.

an increasing trend over time but also greater fluctuations, especially during peak opening seasons. Outside these seasons, publications in the media coincide with Health Library article openings only occasionally. Lyme disease-related information-seeking behaviors between the general public and HCPs from Internet medical portals share similar temporal variations, which is consistent with the trend seen in epidemiological data. Therefore, the general public's article openings could be used as a supplementary source of information for disease surveillance. The fluctuations in article openings appeared stronger among the general public, thus, suggesting that different factors such as media coverage, affect the information-seeking behaviors of the public versus professionals. However, media coverage may also have an influence on HCPs. Full Text Available GİRİŞ: Kasık ağrıları futbolda önemli sağlık problemlerindendir. Nedenleri arasında sıklıkla kas-tendon zorlanmaları, avülsiyon kırıkları, osteitis pubis, inguinal herni (gerçek herni kesesi varlığı ve sporcu hernisi (gerçek herni kesesi yokluğu bulunmaktadır.AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada osteitis pubis tanısı almış futbolcularda eski veya mevcut inguinal herni varlığını araştırmak amaçlandı.GEREÇ-YÖNTEM: Spor hekimliği polikliniğine 2011-2016 yılları arasında kasık ağrısıyla başvurmuş ve osteitis pubis tanısı almış erkek futbolcuların arşiv kayıtları retrospektif olarak tarandı. Sporcuların demografik özellikleri, MR görüntüleri ve varsa inguinal USG tetkik sonuçları incelendi. BULGULAR: Arşiv kayıtlarından profesyonel veya rekreasyonel olarak futbol oynayan 51 osteitis pubisli sporcunun MR görüntülerine ulaşıldı. Yaş ortalaması 24.5 (±7.7 yıl bulundu. İnguinal herniyle ilişkili 8 (%15.6 osteitis pubis olgusu bulundu. 3 sporcu (%5.8 polikliniğimize başvurmadan önce inguinal herni operasyonu geçirmişti. 26 sporcuya ise kasık ağrısıyla beraber herni semptomları da (valsalva ile artan inguinal ağrı ve/veya şişlik tarifledikleri için herni muayenesi ve inguinal USG uygulanmıştı. Bunların sadece 5’i (%9.8 gerçek herni kesesi saptanarak cerrahiye sevk edilmişti. 8 olgunun 7'sinde inguinal herniyle ipsilateral osteitis pubis bulguları kontrlateraldekinden daha belirgindi.TARTIŞMA: Çalışmamızın sonuçları osteitis pubisli futbolcularda eş zamanlı inguinal herni olabileceğini ve önceden inguinal herni tamiri geçirmiş bir futbolcuda osteitis pubis gelişebildiğini göstermiştir. Assessment and protection of geomorphological heritage in the Gruyère - Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park (Switzerland)

important scientific value. Most of them (24 sites) have also a high ecological value. Two thirds of the geomorphosites are directly linked to the biodiversity of the region for two reasons: (1) geomorphological processes allow the regeneration of different primary species, which is the case of active geomorphosites such as scree fans or floodplains and (2) they provide a high diversity of habitats. For example, inherited sites such as relict rock glaciers or ancient rock falls have a chaotic topography and a diversity of soil formations favourable to a high biodiversity. The majority of the sites have a good protection status and only three of them are threatened by human activities because they do not benefit of any protection. One third of the park's area and 20 geomorphosites are under the protection of the Federal inventory of landscapes and natural monuments of national importance. This protection is, however, related more to their ecological or landscape value than to their geomorphological characteristics. An improved knowledge of this geomorphological value and a better recognition by scientists and by the society are important in order to improve the protection of geomorphosites. Full Text Available Dans le cadre d’un séminaire interdisciplinaire en histoire et histoire de l’art à l’université de Lausanne, nous avons travaillé sur les « cultures de guerre » en Suisse et en Europe durant la première moitié du xxe siècle. En nous interrogeant notamment sur le caractère singulier ou non de celles‑ci dans un pays dont le territoire n’a pas connu d’opérations militaires d’envergure. Les généraux Ulrich Wille et Henri Guisan sont deux figures incontournables du champ médiatique et du champ militaire helvétique. Outre leur accession à la tête de l’armée suisse durant les deux conflits mondiaux, Wille et Guisan sont au cœur des représentations d’une institution amenée à jouer un rôle idéologique inversement proportionnel à sa fonction stratégique et militaire. La représentation du général renvoie à une série de schèmes iconographiques, de l’Antiquité à la Galerie des batailles du château de Versailles. Comment le cas suisse s’articule‑t‑il sur cette histoire et à quelles fonctions obéissent les représentations de Wille et Guisan dans leur contexte d’émergence ? Comment les généraux d’un pays neutre, c’est‑à‑dire non belligérant, ont-ils trouvé une posture qui corresponde à leur statut militaire très particulier et comment ont‑ils imaginé leurs relations avec l’autorité politique ? order to validate these estimations, the resulting sediment transfer rates are compared to transfer rates calculated from repeated terrestrial LiDAR surveys on selected study cases. This contribution presents results from the application of this methodology in a test study area in the south-western Swiss Alps. The methodology reveals itself suitable to identify rock glaciers connected to the torrential network. For each of the detected rock glaciers, an estimation of the sediment yield is proposed. average is 2 dm. Bt is overlain by the lithofacies of horizontally stratified coarse grained tuffs - Tv(h). The thickness ranges from 0.1-5 m.The main constituent are angular volcanic rock fragments of diverse composition, texture and stage of alteration. Thick layers may comprise up to 50 graded units, each 1-20 cm thick, which are united in mostly normally graded subsets and sets. Uppermost parts of the sequences are occupied by horizontally and vaguely laminated fine-grained tuffs, and massive fine grained tuffs, denoted as lithofacies F(h), F(v) and F(m), respectively. F(h) and F(v) attain a thickness of 1-5 dm, and F(m) a few mm to 25 cm. At a distance of about 2 km from the former volcano summit, volcaniclastic turbidity ash flow deposits alternate with reworked turbidite ash deposits and siliciclastic marine sediments. Lithofacies of massive (tuffaceous) sandstone - Sv(m), through-cross stratified tuffaceous sandstone - Sv(t) and massive mudstone - M were recognised. They contain detritial constituents (quartz, metamorphic minerals, illite), some layers are rich in organic matter and fossil remains. The succession indicates changing of depositional environment - from high-energy and influenced by wave action to restricted, low-enegy, lagoonal environment with intensive activity of biosphere. Full Text Available Peut-on débattre sur cet arrière-plan topique universel que sont les Droits de l’Homme ? Si tout le monde est d’accord avec ces principes, est-il encore possible d’assister à d’irrémédiables coupures argumentatives entre deux camps pratiquant le dialogue de sourds (Angenot 2008 ? L’analyse d’un corpus tout à fait particulier qui représente toute une production textuelle servant aux citoyens suisses pour se forger une opinion avant un référendum tend à montrer que oui. Ce corpus journalistique et politique se fonde sur un cas assez aigu de débat autour de la liberté d’expression. Ces textes commentent un projet émanant de citoyens suisses qui visait à interdire à l’exécutif fédéral de se prononcer sur un sujet de vote pendant la campagne précédant la votation, le but étant de ne pas influencer par leur autorité le choix des citoyens. Restreindre ainsi la liberté d’expression au profit supposé d’une liberté de choix et de discernement conduit à une bataille entre deux camps. La rhétorique éristique qui en résulte confirme l’hypothèse du dialogue de sourds en se fondant sur une stigmatisation du camp adverse, un combat autour de définitions clés et un désaccord sur le relevé des problèmes. Moins que des arguments, les adversaires se renvoient des questions de frontières, de lexique et de légitimité.Is it possible to argue about something as universal as human rights, defined as an agreement transcending cultural differences? When there is a general consensus around some principles, can argumentative breaks between two opponents still occur? A case study drawing on texts aimed at influencing the Swiss citizens’ opinion before a referendum tends to show that “the dialogue of the deaf” (Angenot 2008 can, and indeed does, go on. In Switzerland, citizens have to vote about many projects every year. One of them proposed to prohibit the government from expressing its standpoint during the weeks preceding a vote in order to prevent it from using its authority upon the voters. This infringement on the freedom of speech in the name of a so-called liberty of choice and judgment led to a political battle in the media. The eristic rhetoric practiced at this occasion relied on stigmatization of the opponent, a battle over key definitions and a disagreement about the nature of the problems, confirming Angenot’s hypothesis of a dialogue of the deaf. Rather than exchanging arguments, the two sides fought over questions of borders, lexicon and legitimacy.

nutrientes foram realizadas mensalmente, durante cinco anos consecutivos no perfil vertical dos dois lagos. RESULTADOS: as análises multivariadas indicaram que o longo período de estratificação térmica favoreceu a ocorrência de estratificação química nos dois lagos. No entanto, no lago mais profundo, o perfil térmico estratificado, com elevadas concentrações hipolimnéticas de nutrientes, condutividade, sólidos totais dissolvidos e potencial redox indicaram que a mistura não foi completa mesmo durante o período de circulação anual, sugerindo uma leve meromixia e alta estabilidade química no hipolímnio. No lago mais raso, elevada atenuação de luz e alta disponibilidade das formas nitrogenadas (principalmente N-NH4 e fosfatadas foram observadas em toda a coluna d'água, mesmo durante a estratificação. No lago mais profundo, foram observadas co-limitação por N e P e baixas coeficientes de atenuação da luz. CONCLUSÃO: os padrões de estratificação térmica e química indicaram que a lagoa Carioca é um lago raso, de rápida circulação com águas túrbidas, rico em nutrientes, enquanto o lago Dom Helvécio é um lago profundo, de águas claras, oligotrófico, com tendência à meromixia e ao isolamento de solutos no hipolímnio. Nesse contexto, a meromixia foi comparada a uma "memória hipolimnética" que foi definida, no caso do lago mais profundo, como a persistência da estratificação química ao longo dos anos durante o período de sua circulação térmica.

Structural observations from the Canavese Fault west of Valle d'Ossola (Piemonte) and some time constraints

. This SW-side-up faulting was accommodated by the CF. For the NE segment of the CF, K-Ar data of 19-26 Ma (Zingg & Hunziker 1990) indicate that the fault was active at that time but these data cannot be linked to a specific displacement sense. Dextral faulting was active at c. 20 Ma as constrained by K-Ar ages of fault gouge from Riedel structures of the Insubric Fault (Zwingmann & Mancktelow 2004). One of the aims of our ongoing work in the TopoAlps project "4D kinematics of the Neogene western Alps" is to provide further absolute age constraints for the different kinematic stages of faulting along the CF by radiometric age dating. Concerning the displacement amount, our results suggest that the CF is a stretching fault accumulating dextral displacement toward the E. This interpretation is supported by the observation that while dextral displacement senses at the ICF are more or less balanced by sinistral ones at the ECF, dextral shear senses become more and more dominant toward Val d'Ossola in the NE. Estimating Rheological Parameters of Anhydrite from Folded Evaporite sequences: Implications for Internal Dynamics of Salt Structure

parallel shortening. Mechanical model have been developed to rigorously correlate rheological properties of rock to the fold shape. A quantitative fold shape analysis combined with the folding theory allows deciphering the rock rheology. In this study, we analyse anhydrite layers embedded in the rock salt from the Upper Permian Zechstein salt formation from Dutch offshore. The anhydrite layers are common intercalation in the sequence. Their thickness varies between few millimetres up to hundred meters. The layers are strongly deformed often forming fold structures, which can be observed on a wide range of scales: in core samples, mine galleries, and also in the seismic sections. For our analysis, we select single layer fold trains. Quantitative fold shape analysis is carried out using Fold Geometry Toolbox [3], which allows deciphering the viscosity ratio between anhydrite and salt. The results indicate that anhydrite layer is ca. 10 to 30 times more viscous than the embedding salt. Further, we use the estimated rheological parameters of anhydrite in the numerical analysis of the internal salt dynamics. We solve an incompressible Stokes equation in the presence of the gravity using the finite element method solver MILAMIN [4]. We show that the presence of denser and more viscous anhydrite layers in the tectonically stable regime is insignificant for the internal stability of the salt structures. considered as a sort of pseudo-stratigraphy, since they are the oldest feature that can be traced continuously at the map scale. For this reason we have developed a set of attributes identifying the tectonic and lithological units (a "legend"), implemented both in the GIS database and in the 3D models, which at the same time is compatible with the data structure of 3D modelling packages like Move and Skua/Gocad, and allows tracing the complex hierarchic classification of the units mapped in the GIS. This allows for the almost automatic and consistent two-way transfer of data between the GIS and geomodelling environments. E.g. results of 3D modelling, which is based on input data originally stored in the GIS, will eventually be transferred back to the GIS. The results of this study, which are preliminarily presented here, will open new opportunities to study the collision- and subduction-related nappe architecture and kinematics with younger deformations removed, and will eventually lead (with additional studies) to a step-by-step retrodeformation supported by modern technologies, following the path traced by Argand at the beginning of the 20th century. Full Text Available Özet: Anılar, tarih eğitimi alanı tarihinin en önemli kaynaklarındandır. Bu makalenin amacı, Türk kültürümüze damgasını vurmuş ve vurmakta olan kişilerin 1882’den 1957’ye kadar dönemi kapsayan anılarından hareket ederek, geçmiş yıllarda okullardaki tarih öğretmenlerinin sınıf içi ve sınıf dışı tarih öğretimi uygulamalarını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Bunun için 15 tarihi okuldan mezun olmuş, 25 kişinin anısı tarandı. 22 tarih öğretmeni saptandı. Her okulun ve her tarih öğretmeninin kendine özgü (sui generis olmasından hareketle, mümkün olduğunca veriler, özel şartları içinde değerlendirilmeye çalışıldı. Elimizdeki bu anılarla,  geçmişteki tarih öğretiminin büyük resminin çekildiğinin iddiasında değilim.  Öte yandan bu sınırlı sayıdaki anılar antolojisi, tarih öğretmenlerinin şahsiyeti, giyim kuşamı, sınıf içi davranışları, ders kitabı kullanımı, öğrencilerle iletişimleri hakkında pek çok bilgi vermektedir.   Bu anı sahiplerinin genelde tarih öğretmenleri ve uygulamaları açısından kendilerini şanslı hissettiklerini yer yer yetişkinliklerinde tarih öğretmenlerini acımasızca eleştirdikleri görülmektedir. Anılardan anlaşıldığı kadarıyla, Türkiye’de de yılmayan, sanatçı ruhlu, tarihi yaşamış gibi anlatan tarih öğretmenlerinin akılda kalıcı olduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Genelde tarih öğretmenlerinin sınıf içinde anlatım tekniğini çok etkileyici kullandıkları anlaşılmaktadır. Although the subject of relativistic dynamics has been explored, from both classical and quantum mechanical points of view, since the work of Einstein and Dirac, its most striking development has been in the framework of quantum field theory. The very accurate calculations of spectral and scattering properties, for example, of the anomalous magnetic moment of the electron and the Lamb shift in quantum electrodynamics, and many qualitative features of the strong and electroweak interactions, demonstrate the very great power of description achieved in this framework. Yet, many fundamental questions remain to be clarified, such as the structure of classical relativistic dynamical theories on the level of Hamilton and Lagrange in Minkowski space as well as on the curved manifolds of general relativity. There moreover remains the important question of the covariant classical description of systems at high energy for which particle production effects are not large, such as discussed in Synge's book, The Relativistic Gas, and in Balescu's book on relativistic statistical mechanics. In recent years, the study of high energy plasmas and heavy ion collisions has emphasized the importance of developing the techniques of relativistic mechanics. The results of Lindner et al [Physical Review Letters 95 0040401 (2005)] as well as the more recent proposal of Palacios et al [Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 253001 (2009)] and others, have shown that there must be a quantum theory with coherence in time. Such a theory, manifestly covariant under the transformations of special relativity with an invariant evolution parameter, such as that of Stueckelberg [Helv. Phys. Acta 14 322, 588 (1941); 15 23 (1942); see also R P Feynman Phys. Rev. 80 4401 and J S Schwinger Phys. Full Text Available La posibilidad de aprobar por referéndum reformas constitucionales de iniciativa popular caracteriza el régimen suizo en línea con su apuesta por la utilización de mecanismos de democracia directa. Sin embargo, la estrechez de los límites constitucionales impuestos a estas iniciativas puede dar lugar a serias contradicciones entre el orden jurídico-político interno y los compromisos internacionales asumidos por el país, lo que resulta particularmente grave en lo que se refiere a los derechos humanos. Así, la aprobación en 2009 de una nueva disposición constitucional que prohíbe taxativamente la construcción de minaretes en la Federación Helvética supone una fuente de conflictos normativos que parte desde la posible violación de la libertad religiosa o el derecho a la no discriminación, protegidos por las principales normas internacionales de derechos humanos. En las condiciones actuales, hallar una solución estable a esta suerte de contradicciones normativas resulta complicado, toda vez que la cultura política suiza es reacia tanto a ensanchar los límites de la soberanía popular como a recibir correcciones de jueces extranjeros. De este modo, se presentan por un lado una serie de problemas o dificultades de orden jurídico y por otra parte, cuestiones de naturaleza política. Entre las primeras, debe analizarse en primer lugar si una prohibición de la construcción de minaretes en sede constitucional entraña una violación de los derechos a la libertad religiosa o a la no discriminación tal y como se recogen en normas internacionales, especialmente el Convenio Europeo de Derechos Humanos. Respecto a este mismo punto, cabe estudiar el acceso al Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos como garante de dicho convenio contra la disposición constitucional suiza o las decisiones tomadas en aplicación de la misma. Yet, many fundamental questions remain to be clarified, such as the structure of classical realtivistic dynamical theories on the level of Hamilton and Lagrange in Minkowski space as well as on the curved manifolds of general relativity. There moreover remains the important question of the covariant classical description of systems at high energy for which particle production effects are not large, such as discussed in Synge's book, The Relativistic Gas, and in Balescu's book on relativistic statistical mechanics. In recent years, the study of high energy plasmas and heavy ion collisions has emphasized the importance of developing the techniques of relativistic mechanics. The results of Linder et al (Phys. Rev. Lett. 95 0040401 (2005)) as well as the more recent work of Palacios et al (Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 253001 (2009)) and others, have shown that there must be a quantum theory with coherence in time. Such a theory, manifestly covariant under the transformations of special relativity with an invariant evolution parameter, such as that of Stueckelberg (Helv. Phys. Acta 14 322, 588 (1941); 15 23 (1942); see also R P Feynman Phys. Rev. 80 4401 and J S Schwinger Phys. Rev. 82 664 (1951)) could provide a suitable basis for the study of such questions, as well as many others for which the application of the standard methods of quantum field theory are difficult to manage, involving, in particular, local
