Full Text Available Die Autoren definieren den Umgang mit internet- basierten Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien als Schlüsselqualifikation für Studierende aller Fachrichtungen. Im vorliegenden Aufsatz beschreiben sie ein Projekt, das der Fachbereich Erziehungswissenschaften der Universität Heidelberg seit 2001 durchführt. Hier werden Studierende der Geistes- und Sozialwissenschaften zu "Lernberatern" ausgebildet, die als Multiplikatoren die notwendigen Kenntnisse erwerben. Die Teilnehmenden erarbeiten nach der "Leittextmethode" selbstgesteuert xml-basierte Contents. Dies setzt den Erwerb von informationstechnischen Kenntnissen voraus, der neben dem Aufbau eines (sowohl technischen als auch sozialen Netzwerks einen Schwerpunkt bildet.

Full Text Available A Fenomenologia do Espírito de Hegel não é ainda o lugar específico da posição de sua filosofia da arte propriamente dita. Entretanto, é possível compreender a relação sistemática entre alguns conceitos fundamentais desta obra de 1807 e a concepção hegeliana de arte da maturidade. A partir desta relação, destacaremos em nossa interpretação três diferentes e complementares teses: 1. Da obra de arte como produto ideal do trabalho do espírito (Geist; 2. Do simbolismo da religião natural como produto do trabalho do artesão à beleza da religião da arte; 3. Da necessidade do oráculo à subjetividade concreta do ator de teatro.Hegel's Phenomenology of Mind is not the specific place of the position of his philosophy of arts. However, it is possible to understand the systematic relationship between many fundamental concepts of this work of 1807 and the Hegel's conception of art in his maturity. Through this relationship, we will detach in our interpretation three different and complementary theses: 1. From the work of art as ideal product of the work of the "Geist"; 2. The symbolism of the natural religion as product of the worker to the beauty of the religion of the arts; 3. The necessity of the oracle to the concrete subjectivity of the actor of the theatre.

With the Lab decision to only use Microsoft Windows NT as the platform for PCs, limitations were reached in using Geonet. A program has been developed at Jefferson Lab, JLabGeo to mimic as many of the Geonet functions as possible, while also expanding and enhancing its capabilities. All of the adjustment programs, originally developed by Dr. Ingolf Burstedde, have been revised in order to work with arrays of any size, and operate as console applications in the NT environment. Integrating the use of a central file server as both the source of the executable programs and data files also ensures that all workstations are using the most recent data. Work continues on developing JLabGeo, notably the integration of all of our survey data types into a easily retrievable database, and the development of a central repository for beamline information and ideal coordinates. Self-sacrificial behavior and its explanation in terms of Max Scheler's concept of spirit.

One of the key concepts of the German philosopher Max Scheler (1874-1928) is his concept of spirit. He understands spirit as one of several naturally functioning human mental agencies, such as consciousness, will, memory, etc. That is, he treats the mental agency of spirit in a scientific way and avoids any esoteric or religious connotations that this peculiar term may involve. The nature of human spirit, according to Scheler, is the ability to withstand and deliberately redirect biological imperatives and instinctive drives, up to the point of purposefully throwing away one's own life. The presence of spirit constitutes the essence of the human being that differentiates him qualitatively from all animals. In this article, I argue that it is human spirit that plays the determinative role in causing heroic and self-sacrificial behavior. I also argue that the individual human spirit experiences its inherent development, thus having several rather dissimilar stages and manifestations. I discuss the meaning that the term 'spirit' has in the English and the American philosophical and psychological traditions and the meaning of the corresponding term 'der Geist' in the German traditions. The specific English-language understanding of the term 'spirit', compared to its German counterpart 'der Geist', namely, less scientific and more religious and esoteric and metaphorical for the former, makes it alien and almost unusable in the English and American traditions. The linguistic difference leads to the misunderstanding of some very important ideas brought by the concept of spirit as introduced by Scheler. My purpose is to overcome this discrepancy and omission and to introduce the notion and the concept of spirit, in their scientific understanding, into the arsenal of modern English-language cognitive science, psychology, and philosophy in order to provide for the full explanatory force of the hitherto neglected concept of spirit.

Medicine is unique in being a combination of natural science and human science in which both are essential. Therefore, in order to make sense of medical practice, we need to begin by drawing a clear distinction between the natural and the human sciences. In this paper, I try to bring the old distinction between the Geistes and Naturwissenschaften up to date by defending the essential difference between a realist explanatory theoretical study of nature including the body in which the scientist discovers the causal properties of natural kinds and the interpretive understanding of human beings as embodied agents which, as Charles Taylor has convincingly argued, requires a hermeneutic account of self-interpreting human practices.

A Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Assessment Methodology and Its Application to Crescent City, CA

A PTHA methodology, based in large part on Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment methods (e.g., Cornell, 1968; SSHAC, 1997; Geist and Parsons, 2005), was previously applied to Seaside, OR (Gonzalez, et al., 2009). This initial version of the method has been updated to include: a revised method to estimate tidal uncertainty; an improved method for generating stochastic realizations to estimate slip distribution uncertainty (Mai and Beroza, 2002; Blair, et al., 2011); additional near-field sources in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, based on the work of Goldfinger, et al. (2012); far-field sources in Japan, based on information updated since the 3 March 2011 Tohoku tsunami (Japan Earthquake Research Committee, 2011). Full Text Available A partire da una rilettura di opere, come Die Protestantische Ethik und der Geist der Kapitalismus e Die Boersenequete, l'articolo mostra che – in linea con quanto Max Weber aveva descritto – l'assenza di regole generali condivise e di controlli pubblici mette in crisi le fondamenta del sistema finanziario. La privatizzazione neoliberista degli organi di controllo della finanza e la creazione di oscuri strumenti finanziari hanno contribuito alla regressione dell'organizzazione giuridica dello Stato, mettendo a serio rischio il principio di calcolabilità razionale che per secoli ha costituito il fondamento della teoria economica. In conclusione, Weber contribuisce a cogliere uno dei nodi fondamentali della crisi americana contemporanea: l'erosione dell’autorità indipendente posta a tutela dell’integrità del sistema.

Full Text Available Considering the relevance of the interaction between neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy in the contemporary debate on emotions, this paper aims at establishing a fruitful dialogue between Hegel’s Philosophie des subjektiven Geistes and the most important neuroscientific and psychological research on emotions. By means of an analysis of the role of Empfindungen (sensations and Gefühle (feelings in the Enzyklopädie der philosophischen Wissenschaften (1830, we will show that Hegel developed a Theorie des Gefühls. The proposed dialogue between Hegel’s thought and contemporary theories is useful for distinguishing the various types of emotions and their cognitive and affective aspects. In fact, it will emerge that both Hegel and recent studies on emotion consider emotions to be characterized by a cognitive valence which enables a person to orient herself/himself in the world.

Twenty-two papers on the study of tsunamis are included in Volume II of the PAGEOPH topical issue "Global Tsunami Science: Past and Future". Volume I of this topical issue was published as PAGEOPH, vol. 173, No. 12, 2016 (Eds., E. L. Geist, H. M. Fritz, A. B. Rabinovich, and Y. Tanioka). Three papers in Volume II focus on details of the 2011 and 2016 tsunami-generating earthquakes offshore of Tohoku, Japan. The next six papers describe important case studies and observations of recent and historical events. Four papers related to tsunami hazard assessment are followed by three papers on tsunami hydrodynamics and numerical modelling. Three papers discuss problems of tsunami warning and real-time forecasting. The final set of three papers importantly investigates tsunamis generated by non-seismic sources: volcanic explosions, landslides, and meteorological disturbances. Collectively, this volume highlights contemporary trends in global tsunami research, both fundamental and applied toward hazard assessment and mitigation.

Full Text Available Mit dem digitalen Zeitalter ergeben sich für die Geisteswissenschaften neue methodologische Möglichkeiten, deren Wurzeln jedoch weit zurück reichen. Am Anfang steht der Index, der inzwischen mit viel weniger Aufwand als früher zum Volltextindex wird. Mit der anschliessenden „Verdatung“ werden Sprachdaten verrechenbar und damit anders nutzbar. Welche Rolle können Bibliotheken in einer verdateten Welt spielen? Der folgende Beitrag betont nicht nur die technischen Möglichkeiten, sondern auch die Probleme, spezifisch aus geistes- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Sicht. The digital era produces a whole range of new approaches for research in the humanities whose origins, however, can be traced far back. Their very source is the index, which can take the form of a full text index much easier than before. By turning text into data it becomes computationally tractable and can be used in novel ways. Which role can libraries play in a digitized world? This paper explores technical possibilities but it also points to problems specific for arts and social sciences.

Full Text Available Is it possible a comparison between phenomenology and neurosciences, empathical Erlebnis and embodied cognition or simulation? The phenomenological living body is really the same of the neurophisiological one? What is the philosophical difference between culture and nature? The thesis asserted here is that intersubjectivity constitutes the originary root of personal subjectivity. It is proved through the empathical Erlebnis analysis elaborated by Edmund Husserl and Edith Stein, which allows for the phenomenologico-anthropological foundation of personal otherness and for the deep sense of the world as common space of action, connected to the identification of the essential structure of human being: living body (Leib as psycho-physical dimension, soul (Seele as nucleus or centre of personal identity, via individuationis and spirit (Geist as intentional life and activity of consciousness. To answer these questions, I follow two phenomenological paths: the first one is the Logos and Leib philosophical nexus, meaning the subject-body; the second is the link between empathy and otherness, meaning the roots intersubjectivity. That is why from my point of view phenomenology means a first person philosophy.

The first part gives a survey about the surprising properties of quantum physics and their most important interpretations. We contrast the new quantum-physical principles of the description of nature with those of classical physics. In the second part we perform in the framework of the reductionism debate an extensive analysis of the understanding of reality represented by the evolutionary theory of knowledge and subject this a critique by means of several central points. A special point of view lies hereby beside the results of quantum philosophy on the relation of physics, chemistry, and biology as well as on the body-soul problem. in the third part we deal with the mutual theories, which follow from the evolution theory and the quantum philosophy for our picture of world.

Full Text Available Fassen wir Geist und Natur nicht als Dichotomie sondern im Sinne von Peirce als Kontinuität auf, dann lässt die genauere Betrachtung des Körpers semiotische Leibphänomene als Zeichen einer Sprache erkennen, deren Grammatik es – im Sinne einer «Bioarchäologie» – zu entschlüsseln gilt. Hierfür stellen die Neurowissenschaften mit modernen Visualisierungstechniken geeignete epistemische Hilfsmittel bereit: Sie machen körperliche Vorgänge des Informationsaustausches sichtbar und heben die semiotisch wenig erschlossene Ebene komplexer neuronaler Zeichentransformationen ans Licht. Um eine Integration der physiologischen und psychologischen Perspektive bemüht sich das transdisziplinäre Projekt der «Neuropsychoanalyse». Sie hebt die Relevanz natürlicher Verarbeitungsmechanismen des Körpers für die subjektiv geprägten Zeichentransformationen des mentalen Erlebens hervor und weicht eine semiotisch allzu undurchlässige Grenzziehung zwischen Psycho- und Neurodynamik etwas auf. Die Hirntätigkeit als potenziell erkenntnisleitenden Zeichenprozess zu verstehen, darf aber nicht in einer unreflektierten Bezugnahme auf neuronale Zeichensysteme münden, wenn die Neuropsychoanalyse mehr als nur eine medienwirksame Neurokarikatur psychodynamischer Konzepte erreichen will.

Full Text Available Eine Theorie der antiken Komödie entwirft Hegel sowohl in seinem frühen Naturrechtsaufsatz, in der Phänomenologie des Geistes als auch in seinen Berliner Vorlesungen über die Ästhetik. In allen drei Ansätzen steht die Komödie in einer engen Beziehung auf die Tragödie und daher im Zusammenhang umfangreicher politischer, religions- und geschichtsphilosophischer Bestimmungen. In dieser Weise kontextualisiert, arbeitet der Aufsatz Hegels Begriff der dramatischen Gattung des Komischen vor dem Hintergrund der allgemeinen geistphilosophischen Kategorien Sittlichkeit und Substantialität als Ende der klassischen Kunst und zugleich als Entstehung der modernen Subjektivität in ihrer freien Selbstbezüglichkeit heraus. Dabei wird immerzu gefragt, wie die absolutgeistigen Entwicklungen auf dem Gebiet des Ästhetischen objektivgeistige Entwicklungen im Bereich von Staat und Gesellschaft, etwa den in der Komödie bewusst werdenden Untergang des Weltzustands der Polis, aufgreifen und reflektieren. Full Text Available Dem Aufsatz liegen folgende Fragen zugrunde: Ist es gerechtfertigt, vom Erbe der tragischen Darstellung des Kampfes im Hegelschen Begriff der Philosophie und insbesondere in seiner Konzeption der Dialektik als Bewegung und Geschichtlichkeit des absoluten Geistes zu sprechen? Hat der Versöhnungsbegriff Hegels, der am konkretesten innerhalb des philosophischen Gedankens ausgeführt wird, bestimmte Folgen auch für den Begriff der Philosophie selber? Opfert sich die Philosophie einer endlichen Äußerlichkeit oder bedarf sie selbst eines Opfers, um das philosophische System als solches zu vervollständigen? Kann man auch heutzutage die geschichtlich-politischen Ereignisse und die Vergehen des Rechts als tragisch darstellen und betrachten? Vermag es die Politik noch immer (wie in der Moderne, die Rolle des Schicksals in der griechischen Tragödie zu übernehmen? Full Text Available In Zeiten, in denen ein einseitig eng definierter Begriff der Wirtschaftlichkeit zum Maßstab aller  Dinge  geworden  ist,  wird  in  dem  vorliegenden  Artikel  argumentiert,  dass  auch „Sprachenlernen“ durchaus als ökonomischer Faktor betrachtet werden kann. Sprachen zu ler- nen ist für viele Menschen ein Element der Selbsterfüllung und Zufriedenheit, vielleicht sogar des Glücks, das in der menschlichen Gesellschaft nicht nur als sehr wichtig, sondern auch als Element gesellschaftlicher Stabilität betrachtet werden kann. Darüber hinaus liefert uns das Erforschen der Sprache den Schlüssel zum Verständnis, wie das Gehirn als informationsverarbeitendes Organ funktioniert und stellt die wichtige Frage, ob die Informationsverarbeitung in allen Sprachen gleich abläuft, oder ob es Unterschiede gibt und wie diese zu erklären sind. Letztendlich wird es nur durch die Sprache erklärt werden können, wenn es überhaupt erk- lärt werden kann, wie Geist aus der Materie entsteht. Diese fundamentale Frage kann nur eine Antwort durch das Verstehen des Mechanismus der menschlichen Sprache  erfahren.

Full Text Available Der Begriff der Medienkunst wird mit fortschreitender Medialisierung der Welt immer problematischer. Die Digitalisierung hat alle künstlerischen Medien (ob technische oder nicht als Medien sichtbar gemacht und deren Verhältnis untereinander grundlegend verändert. Rosalind Krauss bezeichnet dieses neue Verhältnis als "post-medium condition" (Krauss 2000. Wenn wir also von der Medienkunst etwas über Medien lernen wollen, was für eine Medienpädagogik nutzbar ist, müssen wir die Entgrenzung des Medialen berücksichtigen. Diese macht die Abgrenzung von Medienkunst von anderen Künsten sehr schwierig, da eine solche künstlerische Praxis weder an formalen, inhaltlichen oder materiellen Eigenschaften festgemacht werden kann. Ich schlage in diesem Text vor, die Medienkunst in ihren methodischen Strategien zu betrachten. Ihre Referenzen in der Kunstgeschichte sind dabei die Konzeptkunst und die Institutionskritik, als kulturgeschichtlichen Hintergrund komme ich auf die Kybernetik zurück. Im vorliegenden Essay möchte ich versuchen, Anschlussmöglichkeiten einer kritischen Medienpädagogik an die aus der Kybernetik entstandene gegenwärtige Netzwerkkultur zu formulieren. Netzwerkkultur bezeichnet dabei nicht die spezifischen Technologien des Internets wie das Social Web, sondern die aus dem Geiste der Kybernetik entstandenen Formen vernetzter Handlungsmöglichkeiten, zu denen unter anderen auch das Social Web gehören.

Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) may historically have been the most abundant species of Columbia River salmon, contributing as much as 50% of the total biomass of all salmon in the Pacific Ocean prior to the 1940's (Neave 1961). By the 1950's, however, run sizes to the Columbia River dropped dramatically and in 1999 the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) listed Columbia River chum salmon as threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA; NMFS 1999). Habitat degradation, water diversions, harvest, and artificial propagation are the major human-induced factors that have contributed to the species decline (NMFS 1998). Columbia River chum salmon spawn exclusively in the lower river below Bonneville Dam, including an area near Ives Island. The Ives Island chum salmon are part of the Columbia River evolutionary significant unit (ESU) for this species, and are included in the ESA listing. In addition to chum salmon, fall chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha) also spawn at Ives Island. Spawning surveys conducted at Ives Island over the last several years show that chum and fall chinook salmon spawned in clusters in different locations (US Fish and Wildlife Service and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, unpublished data). The presence of redd clusters suggested that fish were selecting specific habitat features within the study area (Geist and Dauble 1998). Understanding the specific features of these spawning areas is needed to quantify the amount of habitat available to each species so that minimum flows can be set to protect fish and maintain high quality habitat

Begge dele er affødt af dybtgående forandringer i livsbetingelserne, som er beskrevet mange steder. Forurening, globalisering, polarisering mellem rig og fattig, genmanipulation og informationseksplosion er de gennemgå- ende motiver og et truende kaos det gennemgående tema". Det er på den baggrund, at Uwe Geist, der er ansat på Roskilde Universitets- centers Dansk/PR-uddannelse, i artiklen prøver at komme bag om et modeord, som i de senere år har hærget både samfundet i almindelig- hed og PR-branchen i særdeleshed. I artiklen sætter han først begre- bet "etik" op imod beslægtede begreber som "moral", "høflighed" og "ret". Dernæst diskuterer han etikkens nødvendighed, på den ene side inden for Habermas´ teori om kommunikativ handlen og diskurs, livs- verden og systemverden, hvor etik ikke handler om faste normer for godt og ondt, men om gensidigheden som grundnorm; på den anden side inden for Luhmanns systemteori, hvor gensidighed ganske vist er funktions- og effektivitetsorienteret, men ikke kan undvære mekanis- men og ressourcen "tillid". Das ist das juridische Supplement im Geiste von Jacques Derrida. Supplementiert wird die Wahrheit des Rechts in anderen Medien: in Drama, Film und Literatur etwa. Dort wird in Szene gesetzt, was in der real erlebbaren Rechtswelt nicht wirklich erlebt werden kann, was aber doch – wie kein Amtsträger bestreiten würde – zum Verfahrensergebnis gehört. Full Text Available In 1904/05 the first edition of Weber’s Protestant Ethics was issued, where the thematic framing is ‘uncertain’ and not yet completed: religion is linked to a certain kind of ethos (of the economic system and of ethic (rational, the ethic of «ascetic Protestantism». Around the same years, Sombart outlines the expository path contained in Modern Capitalism, a detailed «picture of the general economic development», which seems to be a ‘more serious’ work – for its content and set of problems – when compared to the research conducted by his friend and colleague Max Weber. Both scholars view the question of the rise and development of capitalism as a rhythmic research: from the historic origins of the phenomenon, to the elaboration, synthesis and change of the economic process that becomes an autonomous and corrosive force in the modern stage. In the Sombartian discourse, however, the particular ‘attitude’ of the Protestant ethic as analysed by Weber can be regarded at most as one of the possible forms of heresy that justifies a certain approach (moral/punitive to money – and not as the only movement which has roused and regulated the economic or capitalistic processes in the strict meaning of economic surplus, profitable and to be reinvested following entrepreneurial logics. Whereas, what the two sociologists have in common is not only the use of sources (almost identical, but the very concept of Geist and individual predisposition of the subjects who accept the modes of action of this ordering spirit that gives an ethical/psychological boost to men endowed with charisma or with particular energy.

Full Text Available „Was sollte heute ein Kind in den ersten sieben Lebensjahren wissen, können, erfahren haben? Womit sollte es zumindest in Berührung gekommen sein?“ (Elschenbroich 2002, S. 20. Mit ihrem Katalog eines so genannten „Weltwissens“ für Siebenjährige und seiner aus vielerlei Erfahrungen geschöpften Begründung hat Donata Elschenbroich, Pädagogin am Deutschen Jugendinstitut, einen Bestseller gelandet, der wie kaum ein anderes pädagogisches Buch schon fast zwei Jahre auf den Charts steht und eine ungeahnte Auflage erreicht hat. Zwar bleibt der zentrale Begriff „Weltwissen“ in dem Buch vage – wie bei den meisten Verwendungen, sofern man sich nicht an Karl Poppers Drei-Welten-Theorie hält, wonach das „Weltwissen“ die Welt 3 umfasst, also die „objektiven Produkte oder Ideen des menschlichen Geistes (einschließlich aller Theorien über die Welt und über uns“ [Popper 1993, S. 75], die externalisiert und dokumentiert sind; früher hatte man noch den Begriff des Alltagswissens im Gegensatz zum Schulwissen zur Verfügung; immerhin sind D. Elschenbroichs Konzept und ihre Argumentation weitaus vielfältiger und offener angelegt, als es der Titel mit seinem Kanonversprechen für Siebenjährige vermuten lässt, denn es wird ‚nur’ ein „offener Bildungskanon“ angeboten, der recht vielseitig und nicht nur durch Instruktion zu erreichen ist. Doch die öffentliche Rezeption des Buches hat sich schon – soweit erkennbar – darauf kapriziert, dass nun eine schlüssige Orientierung, ein vorbildlicher „Wissens- und Erfahrungskatalog“ für Eltern und Erzieher vorliegt, an den sie sich in ihrem Erziehungsverhalten halten können – wie normativ oder rigide er auch immer ausfällt.

Gabriel Marcel calls the way the human being with the term être-au-monde, etre in carne, geist-in-welt.  Martin Heidegger uses a formula being in the world to characterize human life. Being in the world as a feature of human life, human beings are in the situation. Living in a world of concrete means that there are human relationships with the situation. Sartre said that the real one where there are two, namely: I’etre en soi and I’etre pour Soi. For Sartre, I’etre en soi is the idea that only a concrete phenomenon has ontological status; only something concrete is real. Full Text Available Die heutigen USA gelten vielen als Vorreiter auf dem Weg zur integrativen Erneuerung von Wissenschafts- und Erkenntnisparadigmen. Dies vor allem im Bereich der traditionellen Kern- und Grundlagen-Wissenschaft der neuzeitlichen Universität: der Philosophie und der historisch aus ihr erwachsenen Psychologien. Seit einigen Jahren ist in den USA in der Tat eine Entwicklung im Gang, welche die Einseitigkeiten des nominalistisch-subjektivistischen Paradigmas der „Postmoderne“, welches aus ideengeschichtlicher Sicht die Epoche zwischen 1979 und 2001 geprägt hat, um einen neuen geistigen Objektivismus ausgleichen und beide zu einem neuen, „subjektiv-objektiven“ Paradigma integrieren will. Diese Entwicklung findet ihren Ausdruck in drei exemplarischen Avantgarde-Strömungen, die im vorliegenden Beitrag vorgestellt sowie auf Charakteristiken und Wechselbeziehungen untersucht werden. Dabei erweist sich, dass die heutige ideengeschichtliche Avantgarde der USA in Kernterminologie, historischer Kontinuität und Ausrichtung stark pazifisch-asiatisch, aber noch zu wenig atlantisch-europäisch geprägt ist. Das scheint mit ein Grund dafür zu sein, warum diese Avantgarde-Ansätze trotz ihres hochwertigen Anregungs- und Innovations-Potentials im Hinblick auf ein ganzheitliches Wissenschafts-Paradigma für das 21. Jahrhundert noch unübersehbare Schwierigkeiten haben, den atlantisch-europäisch geprägten Hauptstrom des Geistes-, Kultur- und politisch-sozialen Lebens ihrer Gesellschaft zu erreichen. Es zeigt sich, dass der innere Ausgleich zwischen pazifischen und atlantischen Ideen-Einflüssen eine der zentralen Herausforderungen für diese Avantgarde-Strömungen, aber darüber hinaus im Spiegelverhältnis auch für das europäische Kultur- und Gesellschafts-Paradigma sowie für die Entwicklung der integralen Bewegungen auf Weltebene insgesamt ist.

A tradução de O Espírito do Cristianismo e o seu Destino (Der Geist des Christentums und sein Schicksal, que ora segue, constitui, no dizer de Dilthey, uma das mais belas passagens escritas por Hegel. No entanto, é questionável se a obra constitui um todo acabado, já que Hegel interrompeu várias vezes sua redação, deixando linhas em branco e reiniciando o parágrafo com uma nova linha de pensamento. Mas, Nohl juntou em um texto homogêneo um composto de cinco fragmentos separados (N, 243-60, 261-75, 276-301, 302-24, 325-42. Pelas pesquisas de G. Schüler e Ch. Jamme, a obra se desenvolve em duas fases distintas, tendo como ponto de partida o outono/inverno de 1798 para 1799, em Frankfurt. É neste período que Hegel procura desvendar a origem da positividade das leis morais religiosas judaicas que o cristianismo procura superar pelo amor. Pelo espírito do cristianismo, Hegel ensaia uma resposta à questão da unidade, que passa a ser veiculada pelos impulsos naturais da vontade. É, por isso, este um período hegeliano denominado de período anímico. Estão traduzidas, em princípio, apenas as páginas iniciais da obra, em que Hegel apresenta Jesus como aquele que se levanta contra as leis judaicas. A tradução é da seguinte edição alemã: HEGEL, G. W. F. Frühe Schriften. Werk 1. Suhrkamp Taschenbuch Wissenschaft: Frankfurt am Main, 1994, p. 346-369. Esta terceira parte da tradução apresenta a crítica de Hegel à positividade da religião judaica. Tal positividade vem expressa através da lei, que coloca o humano numa posição de subserviência e passividade. Diante desta situação Hegel reconhece a atuação de Jesus de Nazaré, aquele que se levanta frente às incoerências do judaísmo.

Under the Emperor Francis Joseph (1848-1916) the natural sciences were less weIl supported in Austria than in other countries of Europe. This is explained by the fact that the German speaking middle classes accepted the preeminence of the feudal forces with their antiscientific attitude. The reason for this readiness to subordination was that those middle classes feIt threatened in their relatively favourable situation by Slavs and Latins. Francis Joseph was the typical representative of the aristocracy. Personally, he did his duty conscientiously and was not corrupt, but progressive ideas and scientific thought were alien to him. From his desk he treated Boltzmann benevolently, but he had no wish to meet personally the greatest mind of the Empire or in any respect to ask his views. Another famous subject of the Emperor, Albert Einstein, was apparently ignored altogether. The structural weakness of Austria, due to the national problems, led to immobilism in her scientific life, but also, up to a point, to tolerance. The impression of Victor Adler on Einstein is considered in this historical context. Full Text Available Mit der Transformation des gedruckten Buch zum elektronischen Text verändern sich zentrale Rahmenbedingungen der Bibliothek. Die theoretischen Grundlagen des ‚Buches‘ müssen unter dem Gesichtspunkt des Digitalen neu durchdacht und auf ihre praktischen Konsequenzen hin geprüft werden. Vor allem die Transitivität, spezifische Schriftlichkeit und Prozessierbarkeit elektronischer Texte sind Eigenschaften, die Konsequenzen für eine ganze Reihe bibliothekarischer Kernaufgaben haben. Mit Blick auf das kulturelle Erbe, das in Bibliotheken verwahrt wird, stellt sich die Aufgabe, auf diesen Paradigmenwechsel angemessen zu reagieren und Sorge dafür zu tragen, dass das schriftliche und gedruckte Kulturgut auch in einer adäquaten maschinenlesbaren Form zur Verfügung steht. Nach gut 10 Jahren erfolgreicher Imagedigitalisierung muss daher jetzt, nach der Entwicklung entsprechender Techniken der nächste Schritt zur Herstellung, Aufbereitung und Bereitstellung von Volltext getan werden, um neuen, sich aus der digitalen Wende ergebenden Forschungsanforderungen und Forschungsfragen, die sich mit Begriffen wie Stilometrie, Clusteranalyse, Topic Modeling etc. verbinden, zu genügen. Den Bibliotheken wächst vor diesem Hintergrund in der Transformation des schriftlichen Kulturgutes und Bereitstellung von Volltexten eine neue Aufgabe zu. Sie können darin einen wichtigen Beitrag zum Aufbau einer Infrastruktur für eine digital arbeitende Geistes- und Kultwissenschaft bzw. die Digital Humanities leisten. Basic concepts of the notion of the ‘book’ have to be reconsidered and to be evaluated in view of the practical consequences. Full Text Available Die Solidarität unter Frauenforscherinnen wird bis heute als politisch-ideologisches Postulat der Frauenforschung aufrechterhalten, obwohl im Zuge einer zunehmenden Institutionalisierung und Professionalisierung bei einer gleichzeitig nahezu unveränderten Marginalisierung der Frauenforschung an deutschen Hochschulen eine stärker werdende Konkurrenz auch unter Frauenforscherinnen zu beobachten ist. Sünne Andresen geht der Frage nach den möglichen Ursachen von Konkurrenz unter Frauenforscherinnen in der Hochschule nach. Diese Fragestellung ist in der Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung nicht neu, wenngleich sie bislang eher allgemein auf die Konkurrenz unter Wissenschaftlerinnen bezogen worden ist. Innovativ ist jedoch, dass die Autorin hierfür den subjektwissenschaftlichen Ansatz der Kritischen Psychologie und die Habitus-Feld-Konzeption Bourdieus als theoretischen Bezugsrahmen auswählt und damit deutlich über die vorherrschenden subjektzentrierten oder strukturtheoretischen Erklärungsansätze hinausgeht. Die empirische Basis ihrer Studie sind sechs qualitative Interviews mit Habilitandinnen der geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Fächer, die sich auf die Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung spezialisiert haben. Insgesamt arbeitet die Autorin interessante Aspekte möglicher Ursachen des Konkurrenzverhaltens unter und der Konkurrenzerfahrungen von Frauenforscherinnen heraus. Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Assessment: the Seaside, Oregon Pilot Study

events could benefit the NTHMP. The joint NFIP/NTHMP pilot study at Seaside, Oregon is organized into three closely related components: Probabilistic, Modeling, and Impact studies. Probabilistic studies (Geist, et al., this session) are led by the USGS and include the specification of near- and far-field seismic tsunami sources and their associated probabilities. Modeling studies (Titov, et al., this session) are led by NOAA and include the development and testing of a Seaside tsunami inundation model and an associated database of computed wave height and flow velocity fields. Impact studies (Synolakis, et al., this session) are led by USC and include the computation and analyses of indices for the categorization of hazard zones. The results of each component study will be integrated to produce a Seaside tsunami hazard map. This presentation will provide a brief overview of the project and an update on progress, while the above-referenced companion presentations will provide details on the methods used and the preliminary results obtained by each project component.

Worldwide, as many as half a million people have died in natural and man-made disasters since the turn of the 21st century (Wirtz, 2008). Further, natural and man-made hazards can lead to extreme financial losses (Elsner et al, 2009). Hazards, hydrological and geophysical risk analysis related to groundwater-surface water interactions and groundwater flooding have been to a large extent under-emphasized for coastal zone applications either due to economical limitations or underestimation of its significance. This is particularly true for tsunamis creating salt water intrusion to coastal aquifers, even though most tsunami hazard assessments have in the past relied on scenario or deterministic type models (Geist and Parsons, 2006), and to increasing mineralization of potable water because of intensive water diversions and also the abundance of highly toxic pollutants (mainly pesticides) in water, air and food, which contribute to the deterioration of the coastal population's health (Glantz, 2007). In the wake of pressing environmental and economic issues, it is of prime importance for the scientific community to shed light onto the great efforts by hydrologists and geophysicists to quantify conceptual uncertainties and to provide quality assurances of potential coastal zone hazard evaluation and prediction. This paper proposes consideration of two case studies which are important and significant for future development and essential for feasibility studies of hazards in the coastal zone. The territory of the Aral Sea Region in Central Asia is known as an ecological disaster coastal zone (Zavialov, 2005). It is now obvious that, in order to provide reasonable living conditions to the coastal zone population, it is first of all necessary to drastically improve the quality of the water dedicated to human needs. Full Text Available Zusammenfassung: Die heutigen USA gelten vielen als Vorreiter auf dem Weg zur integrativen Erneuerung von Wissenschafts- und Erkenntnisparadigmen. Dies vor allem im Bereich der traditionellen Kern- und Grundlagen-Wissenschaft der neuzeitlichen Universität: der Philosophie und der historisch aus ihr erwachsenen Psychologien. Seit einigen Jahren ist in den USA in der Tat eine Entwicklung im Gang, welche die Einseitigkeiten des nominalistisch-subjektivistischen Paradigmas der „Postmoderne“, welches aus ideengeschichtlicher Sicht die Epoche zwischen 1979 und 2001 geprägt hat, um einen neuen geistigen Objektivismus ausgleichen und beide zu einem neuen, „subjektiv-objektiven“ Paradigma integrieren will. Diese Entwicklung findet ihren Ausdruck in drei exemplarischen Avantgarde-Strömungen, die im vorliegenden Beitragvorgestellt sowie auf Charakteristiken und Wechselbeziehungen untersucht werden. Dabei erweist sich, dass die heutige ideengeschichtliche Avantgarde der USA in Kernterminologie, historischer Kontinuität und Ausrichtung stark pazifisch-asiatisch, aber noch zu wenig atlantisch-europäisch geprägt ist. Das scheint mit ein Grund dafür zu sein, warum diese Avantgarde-Ansätze trotz ihres hochwertigen Anregungs- und Innovations-Potentials im Hinblick auf ein ganzheitlichen Wissenschafts-Paradigma für das 21. Jahrhundert noch unübersehbare Schwierigkeiten haben, den atlantisch-europäisch geprägten Hauptstrom des Geistes-, Kultur- und politisch-sozialen Lebens ihrer Gesellschaft zu erreichen. Es zeigt sich, dass der innere Ausgleich zwischen pazifischen und atlantischen Ideen-Einflüssen eine der zentralen Herausforderungen für diese Avantgarde-Strömungen, aber darüber hinaus im Spiegelverhältnis auch für das europäische Kultur- und Gesellschafts-Paradigma sowie für die Entwicklung der integralen Bewegungen auf Weltebene insgesamt ist. Full Text Available Significação, a partir deste ano de 2001, passa a ser uma revista semestral contando com o patrocínio da Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná. Vinculada, em princípio, ao Centro de Pesquisa em Poética da Imagem, do Departamento de Cinema, Rádio e Televisão da Escola de Comunicações e Artes da Universidade de São Paulo, o periódico entra, pois, numa nova fase e abre maiores possibilidades para divulgar a produção acadêmica dos cursos de pós-graduação da Universidade patrocinadora e de outros programas de pós-graduação do Brasil e do Exterior. Conseqüentemente, aumentam também as responsabilidades e o trabalho de análise dos artigos que nela se publicam, embora seus objetivos permaneçam os mesmo.Os textos reunidos neste número colocam o leitor interessado em questões relacionadas com o amplo campo da comunicação diante de um conjunto heterogêneo de pontos de vista. É só comparar, por exemplo, os artigos de Lucrécia D 'Alessio Ferrara e de Eugênio Bucci para constatar isso. A representação fenomênica de um objeto transporta o observador para uma dimensão cognoscível e cria condições para que o sujeito, por vias da interpretação, mantenha vivos os propósitos da ciência e intensifique sua relação evolutiva com o mundo. Tal idéia, defendida no primeiro dos autores citados, pode muito bem manter uma relação dialógica com os conceitos de comunicação formulados por Bucci e gerar uma espécie de perspectiva em abismo teórica a partir da qual parece possível adentrar-se num terreno crítico bastante atual. Outro tanto ocorre se compararmos os trabalhos de Ingrid Geist e Heloísa de Araújo Duarte Valente. O ritual, enquanto ato comunicativo, instaura um processo em que os signos se entregam ao simulacro de sua dissolução e abre, assim, a possibilidade de que o mundo sensível, tão valorizado pelos estudos de semiótica realizados recentemente por pesquisadores que seguem os pressupostos da chamada Escola

of the trap detector is very close to the responisivity of an ideal detector over most of its spectral range. The uncertainties given in (b) are very low uncertainties for the spectral response scales in the visual and infrared. The improvements of using the hybrid self calibration method is clearly demonstrated, though longer integration time and more measurement series in the purely relative method is expected to reduce the uncertainty in that method as well. The suggested methods presented in this thesis would improve if better spectrally invariant detectors were developed. Designing spectrally invariant detectors to be chilled with liquid nitrogen, but without all the facilities needed for a CR, would reduce the noise of' such detectors. This CR-light should preferably be small and the silicon detector should be placed behind the needed window so that window effects are minimised and full advantage of the method is obtained. The disadvantages by this suggested set-up are that the system is more complex and requires vacuum. In addition, the temperature differences will cause condensation problems, which also have to be handled. The uncertainties are obtained with a power levels in the order of 1 microW per nm. If we had access to a smoothly varying spectrally selective system with higher throughput, we expect to reduce the uncertainties accordingly. This could be a continuous laser source or a monochromator system and source with higher brightness. On the other hand, the cost of such a system would be rather high, so the main advantage with the presented methods would therefore be reduced. The evolution of self-calibration is going further. Geist et al has suggested to cool the silicon detectors down to cryogenic temperatures in order to achieve an ultra high accuracy primary standard below the I ppm level. letzterem greift er das Gedankengut von Lombardus auf und untermauert es mit vielen zusätzlichen Argumenten aus der Lektüre griechischer und römischer Philosophen sowie aus der antiken Poesie.Als Rosselli mit seiner Arbeit am Kommentar zu "Pymander" und "Asclepius" fast fertig war, folgte er der Bitte des Provinzalministers der polnischen Franziskanerobservanten /hier Bernhardiner genannt/ Erazm Pęcicki und dem Wunsch des Generalministers Franz Gonzaga und begab sich 1581 nach Polen, um dort die posttridentinische Reform in der polnischen Provinz der Franziscaner durchzuführen, vor allem aber das Niveau des Ordensschule zu heben. Er begann damit, dass er an der Ordendsschule am Kloster des hl. Bernhardins aus Siena jeden Tag drei Stunden lang die "Lehrmeinungen" von Petrus Lombardus aus der Sicht des Duns Scotus kommentierte. Im gleichen Jahr nahm er Darüber hinaus die Vorlesungstätigkeit an der Theologischen Fakultät der Krakauer Universität zu Problemen des zweiten Buches der "Lehrmeinungen" auf. Ausser theologischen Vorlesungen hielt er auch Vortäge Uber philosophische Probleme. Parallel zu seiner Lahrtätigkeit bereitete er den Druck seines mehrbändigen Kommentars zu den "Lehrmeinungen" und zu den hermetischen Schriften unter dem Titel: "Pymander Mercurii Trismegisti" vor, die in Geiste einer versöhnlichen Irenik gehalten waren. Es gelang ihm aber nicht, die irenische Denkweise auf den polnischen Boden zu übertragen. Er konnte allenfalls finanzielle Unterstützung führender kirchlicher Persönlichkeiten für sein verlegerisches Vorhaben gewinnen. Zu seinen Mäzenen zählten der polnische König, Stefan Batory und der Primas Stanislaw Karnkowski. Die einzelnen Bände sind jeweils einer der grossen Persönlichkeit seiner Zeit gewidmet, so z. B. der Band I - dem Generalminister des Ordens, Franz Gonzaga; der Band II - Ferdinand Medici; der Band III - dem Grossherzog von Toscana Franz Medici; der Band IV - dem polnischen Primas, Kardinal Stanislaw Karnkowski
