    Full Text Available : Život oko nas uglavnom se zasniva na biološkoj katalizi, pa bi se čak, u nekakvoj neromantičnoj priči, život mogao opisati kao niz hemijskih reakcija koje regulišu glavni principi termodinamike. U davnoj prošlosti, ku­canje srca bilo je znak dobrog zdravlja, međutim, za mene, najvažniju ulogu ima upravo prisustvo enzima... Mada ne obraćamo često pažnju na to, istorija enzimologije stara je koliko i sam ljudski rod i seže daleko u prošlost. CVaj rad posvećen je baš tim počecima u ovoj veoma zanimljivoj nauci, koja je u prošlosti ostavila traga na našim životima i koja će u budućnosti učiniti da život bude mnogo pro­duktivniji za čovečanstvo. Između čoveka i enzima postojao je oduvek jedan delikatan, suštinski važan odnos. Suočen s nepoznatom i neprijateljski nastrojenom prirodom punom grabljivaca, preistorijski čovek rano je otkrio lekovita svojstva biljaka, i to metodom probe i greške. Štaviše, slučajno su otkriveni inhibitori enzima, čime je, grubo rečeno, još tada otvorena nova oblast istraživanja. Oi biljni derivati koji su imali ulogu inhibitora enzima pomagali su preistorijskom čoveku u njegovoj borbi da opstane i zaštiti se od grabljiva­ca; prilikom lova i ribolova... Kasnije kroz istoriju, sa nepro- menjenom svrhom opstanka i poboljšanja kvaliteta života, enzimologija je iz korena transformisana, a metodologiju »probe i greške« iz praistorije zamenile su racionalne naučne teorije.

    Full Text Available U radu se diskutuje povezanost procesa globalizacije i pseudonaučnih tumačenja prošlosti. Istaknuta je dvostruka veza između efekata procesa globalizacije i pseudoistorijskog/pseudoarheološkog izmišljanja prošlosti. Prva je tendencija da se nezadovoljstvo kulturnom globalizacijom kompenzuje verovanjem u drugačiju i lepšu prošlost, dok se druga odnosi na upotrebu savremenih sredstava komunikacije u prenošenju pseudonaučnih tumačenja prošlosti širokoj javnosti. Pomoću primera sa područja bivše SFR Jugoslavije ukazano je da proces tranzicije ka globalnom društvu, koji se desio posle perioda eskalacije nacionalizama, doprinosi osećaju krize nacionalnih, regionalnih i lokalnih identiteta i prouzrokuje težnju ka stvaranju izmišljenih prošlosti. Takođe, skrenuta je pažnja da pseudoistoričari i pseudoarheolozi obilato koriste globalna sredstva masovne komunikacije, pre svega internet, čime njihova tumačenja postaju dostupna velikom broju ljudi i prete da postanu jedan od glavnih (iako zabludnih izvora za oblikovanje stavova o prošlosti i sadašnjosti.

    Full Text Available Dainavà. MEANING, HISTORY AND ORIGIN OF THE NAMESummarySeveral villages in Southern Lithuania bear the name Dainavà (acc. sg. Daĩnavą. There is a village of this name, inhabitated by the Lithuanians, also in Byelorussia, in Grodno region, Zietela district (in Byelorussian Dziatlovo as well as Diatlovo. The name is attested in 13th c. historical sources written in Latin: Deynowe, Denowe. In 16th c. Russian chronicles we find Doinova (Дойнова. It has been long ago assumed by investigators that this was the Lithuanian name for the Yatvingians, a tribe of the Western Balts. In addition to this, there are ten villages in Aukštaičiai (in the Highlands of Lithuania called Dainiaĩ. It was suggested by historians that in some cases these villages got the name from the name plur. *dainiaĩ (sg. *dainỹs of the population of the Dainava region.In Lithuanian there are adjectives dienì and dienė̃ „pregnant, with calf, in foal” (< *dēin(ii̯o-, used, e. g., in dienì kárvė „cow, that calves“, dienì kumẽlė „mare in foal“.Lith. diẽndaržis „cattleyard; enclosure“ etymologically correspond to Latv. dìendā̀rzs, dìendā̀rzs2, diendaržis „cattlehurdle“. They are compounds that contain Baltic * diena, *diene (acc. sg. *diẽną, *diẽnę subst. fem. „cow“ and Lith. dar̃žas, Latv. dā̀rzs „kitchen-garden“. It is possible to reconstruct East Baltic * diena, * diene (acc. sg. * diẽną, *diẽnę subst. fem. „cow“ which derive from Protobaltic nouns *dḗinā, *dḗinē subst. fem. „cow“.In the East Latvian dialects we found atdiẽne „a cow, that calves in the second year“, adaine, a[t]daîne „a cow, that calves in the second year“, which contain a prefix at- and Baltic *diena, *diene subst. fem. „cow“ respectively *dā́inē „cow“.OInd. dhenúḥ fem. „(milk cow; female“, Avesta daēnu- fem. „female“, u stem, OInd. dhénā fem. „female; milk-cow; brests“, ā stem, seem to be etymological cognates of these Baltic words.So there are good grounds for believing that the name of the inhabitants of the former region Dainava pl. * dainiaĩ (sg. *dainỹs, acc. sg. *dáinin < *dāinin with a primitive meaning „cow-herds, cow-boys“ in historical-comparative aspect is connected with *dā́inē „cow“. From the very outset, the name pl. *dainiaĩ with the suffix *-(ii̯o- evidently must have meant tribesmen as countable members of a tribe. Dainavà, Dainuvà, derivatives with the suffixes –ava/-uva, might have been collective names for the ethnic group as an indivisible whole.It seems that the names Dainavà, Dainuvà have etymologically nothing to do with the hydronyms Dainavà Daĩn-upis etc., as has been assumed by some scholars, then they may represent quite a different root. They are most likely derived with a suffix -n- from the root *deih1- „spank along, dash, speed along; turn, go round“, which is attested in Latv. diêt (deju „to dance; to jump (about, leap; to sing“, OInd. dī́yati „he flies, soars“, Gr. δινέω, δινεύω „to turn, twist, swing...“.

    Full Text Available Rad se bavi primenom metodološkog individualizma u antropologiji. U radu se preispituju kritike metodološkog individualizma koje ističu da ovaj pristup nije odgovarajući za antropologiju zbog specifičnosti te discipline. Autori polaze od toga da postoje prednosti ovog epistemološkog okvira za razumevanje fenomena kojima se bavi antropologija. Ispitivanje mogućnosti naučnog objašnjenja u okviru metodološkog individualizma stavlja se u relaciju sa suprotstavljenim epistemološkim okvirom metodološkog holizma. Druga pretpostavka autora je da antropologija nije isključivo holistička nauka, jer istorija antropološke teorije pokazuje da ova nauka ima tradiciju metodološkog individualizma. Rad prikazuje ključna dostignuća antropologa koji su svoje istraživačke i teorijske nalaze definisali primenom metodološkog individualizma. Takođe se ispituju alternativni oblici naučnog objašnjenja koji slede metodološki individualizam, u radovima savremenih antropologa (Holi, Štuhlik, kao i autora iz drugih oblasti koji slede isti metodološki postupak (Budon, a čiji zaključci su relevantni za antropologiju. Zaključak rada je da metodološki individualizam ima značajno mesto u antropologiji i da postoje područja ove discipline koja mogu imati heurističku korist od epistemoloških pristupa koji slede principe metodološkog individualizma.

    Full Text Available Once more on the origin of Lith. aukaThis article aims to show that the origin of the words aukauti ‘sacrificeʼ, auka ‘sacrifice, donationʼ and aukuras ‘sacrificial siteʼ goes back to the 19th century. These are the transformations and new formations by Simonas Daukantas. The word aukuoti ‘rock, heave’ was assigned the contextual meaning of ‘to make a heave offering’ by the editors of Bretkūnas’ Bible. Daukantas made use of the words aukuoti, aukavimas in this particular sense; he is likely to have taken them as substitutes for Slavisms apieravoti, apiera from Milkus’ (Mielcke dictionary. Daukantas unconsciously altered the infinitive form of the verb (aukauti and provided a peculiar interpretation of the word itself, he saw a different motivation for the act of aukauti, that of calming, pacifying the gods (the purpose of the offering rather than its manner. This is shown by the specific collocability of aukauti coinciding with the valency of maldyti, raminti ‘appease, soothe’ as well as some word collocations used by Daukantas. However, already in the Istorija žemaitiška (Samogitian History where Daukantas’ remake aukauti was first used, a different valency (the same as in the modern language of this verb was encountered; it was determined by the influence of synonymous Slavisms apiera, apieravoti. The article also discusses the formation of the neologisms auka, aukas and aukuras.

    Full Text Available The article considers Antanas Baranauskas’s diary – the manuscript of its text and its three publications. During careful examination of the diary making principles there will be brought up an issue of the Baranauskas’s text boundaries – how they are clearly defined, where they (maybe are, how they have been considered and how they have been built in the di­ary publications. A more careful study of the diary discloses an ambivalent genre of Barnauskas’s text – started as a diary, in the end it looks more like an au­tobiography. Diary’s re-writing can be considered as a separate issue, taking into consideration that it makes more complicated the issue of the text boundaries, also it makes correction in the diary’s reading strategy.

    Full Text Available This article focuses on the development of peaceful nuclear power. The author draws attention to the fact that nuclear power is a rather young branch of national economy. However, over recent decades, it has already seen rises and falls, and a number of states have had tragic experiences of nuclear emergencies. Nevertheless, many countries — including the three Baltic States of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania — express a strong interest in development, generation, and application of nuclear power. In the Baltic States, nuclear power dates back to the Soviet times, but its development was suspended pursuant to the EU regulations (the Ignalina NPP. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have been striving for energy independence from Russia — the principal supplier of energy carriers to these countries. For a long time, the three Baltic States have been proclaiming their unanimity on the general European path of development. However, the reality proved to be different. The touchstone for achieving common goals was the idea of constructing a new NPP at the site of the closed Ignalina NPP. The author concludes that the joint construction of a new NPP is quite questionable. When it comes to politics, each of the three Baltic States is ready to build its own NPP. Thus, the development of nuclear power in the Baltic Sea region requires joint coordinated actions independent of any bloc-inspired interests of the states involved. Moreover, this success may prove sustainable if the actions are based on innovative decisions and modern technologies.

    Full Text Available This article deals with the problem of representation of the Lithuanian national identity in the novel Pragiedruliai (Bright Spaces by Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas (1869–1933. The classical novel, which was planned to become an epos of the Lithuanian national revival, was published in three parts during 1918–1920 in Vilnius, at the height of political and military conflict between Lithuania and Poland over the possession of this multinational city. The author himself was one of the main Lithuanian combatants in the field of nationalist ideology and press as he edited the main Lithuanian dailies (Lietuvos Aidas, Nepriklausomoji Lietuva in Vilnius in that period. In his numerous press articles, Vaižgantas discussed Lithuanian identity as a phenomenon born from the local spirit of nature, formed by the primeval forces of biosphere, and organically evolving into the modern state of national consciousness. By suggesting this model of “organically modern” and “naturally democratic” Lithuanian identity, Vaižgantas was creating an antithesis against the image of Lithuanians as uncivilized barbarians propagated by the Polish nationalist side. However, the novel Pragiedruliai reveals much more diverse and complicated process of conversion of the “natural” or “pantheist” Lithuanian consciousness into the modern national selfimage. While trying to elaborate the symbolic literary narrative of this identity transformation, Vaižgantas included intertextual references to Pan Tadeusz, a 19th century Polish epos about the Lithuanian Grand Duchy noblemen by Adam Mickiewicz, as well as symbols indicating the intricate link between the Lithuanian identity and the cultural history of the Grand Duchy. The original opening chapters of Vaduvų kraštas (The Land of Vaduvos, the second volume of the novel, presented an acute criticism of the Lithuanian “natural” consciousness from the perspective modern cultural liberalism. Thus the clear construction of identity used by Vaižgantas in his political rhetoric becomes complicated and in some cases is even undermined in the polysemantic literary texture of his novel.

Es absolutamente necesario estudiar y experimentar a fondo los procesos resultantes de Ja evacuacion de materiales radiactivos en el mar. En efecto, para poder resolver multiples interrogantes en esta esfera, hace falta conocer a fondo esos problemas. A este respecto, la investigacion de los procesos de mezclado y de dispersion en los mares tiene primordial importancia. El autor refleja en su estudio el estado actual de los conocimientos teoricos y de Ja experiencia practica. Dentro de ciertos Jimites, las estadisticas pueden ayudar a determinar como se difunde en las aguas del mar, a partir de un punto y sobre zonas de un radio medio de 10 a 1,500 km, una determinada sustancia concentrada. Este metodo depende de ciertos hechos relacionados con el espectro de turbulencia, desconocido aun por lo que respecta a muchas zonas marinas. En el estudio se explican las distintas condiciones que concurren en Jas diversas zonas oceanicas y en los mares litorales y continentales.
