    In this paper, the Dai-Kou type conjugate gradient methods are developed to solve the optimality condition of an unconstrained optimization, they only utilize gradient information and have broader application scope. Under suitable conditions, the developed methods are globally convergent. Numerical tests and comparisons with the PRP+ conjugate gradient method only using gradient show that the methods are efficient.

  5. [Clinical value of "Kou mode of hepatic hilar anastomosis" in resection of type III or IV hepatic hilar cholangiocarcinoma].

    To evaluate the surgical technique of "Kou mode of hepatic hilar anastomosis" in the treatment for type III or IV hilar cholangiocarcinoma. The clinical data of 89 patients with type III or IV hilar cholangiocarcinoma surgically treated in our department between Jan. 1990 and Jan. 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Since January 2000, "Kou mode of hepatic hilar anastomosis" was performed for some patients with advanced hilar cholangiocarcinoma. The patients were divided into two groups: group A treated between 1990 and 1999, group B between 2000 and 2008. The rate of resection, therapeutic efficacy and complications in these two groups were compared, respectively. Of the 37 cases with hilar cholangiocarcinoma in group A, 4 were surgically treated (10.8%), with 1 (2.7%) radical resection and 3 (8.1%) palliative resection. Among the 52 cases with hilar cholangiocarcinoma in the group B, 35 (67.3%) received surgical resection, of them 15 (28.8%) underwent radical resection and 20 (38.5%) had palliative resection. Twenty-eight of these 35 cases underwent the "Kou mode of hepatic hilar anastomosis". The resection rate of advanced hilar cholangiocarcinoma in the group B was significantly higher than that in group A (P anastomosis" developed bile leakage to a varying degree and recovered after drainage and symptomatic treatment. The resection rate of type III or IV advanced hilar cholangiocarcinoma can be remarkably improved by using a novel alternative surgical technique called "Kou mode of hepatic hilar anastomosis". However, the long-term outcome still needs to be determined by close follow-up and further observation.

    Chinese ancient porcelain history has lasted about three thousands years from Shang Dynasty (1100∼1600 BC). A large amount of ancient porcelain sherds with accuracy provenance and ages were excavated from a lot of kiln sites in China. Archaeologists and ceramic experts have recognized and researched it with excavated stratum, utensil shape, body quality, glaze color and painting pattern. However, the appearance characteristic of some ancient porcelain manufactured in different kilns is similar. Therefore, it is still difficult to identify the provenance and ages of the samples excavated from some sites using traditional methods. Up, to now, many problems of Chinese ancient porcelain are confused for archaeologist and collecting experts. The elemental composition of ancient porcelain shows certain information of provenance and age. Especially, the sorts and contents of the elements in porcelain didn't change, so it is very useful to determine the provenance of ancient porcelain with elemental composition characteristics. Provenance characteristic is the important scientific information to identify ancient porcelain wares excavated from sites and graves. The porcelain samples of Si-Long-Kou Yue kiln in Zhejiang Province of china have been analyzed with NAA in this paper. The provenance characteristic was compared with it of Hong-Zhou kiln of Jiang-Xi Province and Yao-Zhou kiln of Shan-Xi Province. The experimental data were studied with statistic methods. The results show that the chemical compositions of porcelain body samples for three kilns were different. The difference was been able identified. The porcelain body materials of both Si-Long-Kou Yue kiln and Hong-Zhou kiln of Jiang-Xi were similar. The samples of Yao-Zhou kiln in north of China existed obvious difference.

    The effect of Kou Yan Qing Ke Li on the prevention and treatment of radiation-induced oral mucositis was investigated in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Sixty patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma to be treated with radiotherapy were randomized into two groups: the experimental and control groups. The experimental group (30 patients) was treated with Kou Yan Qing Ke Li during the full course of radiotherapy. The control group (30 patients) rinsed their mouths in the same way with mouth washes containing 0.9% sodium chloride injection, lidocaine, dexamethasone, vitamin B2 and B2 gargle liquid mixture, when grade 2 and above radiation-induced oral mucositis appeared in the process of radiation. Radiation-induced oral mucositis was assessed according to the radiation therapy oncology group criteria. The time of occurrence and degree of pain grade were compared between the two groups. The first onset of oral mucositis in the experimental group (12.40 d ± 2.74 d) was later than that in the control group (9.46 d ± 1.39 d) (t = 5.241, P Qing Ke Li could delay the time of occurrence of radiation-induced oral mucositis, reduce the severity of radiation stomatitis, alleviate the pain of patients, improve the clinical symptoms of patients, and effectively prevent and treat radiation-induced oral mucositis in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

    A novel strategy applying an organophosphate-based insecticide paint on doors and windows in combination with long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLINs) was tested for the control of pyrethroid-resistant malaria vectors in a village setting in Vallée du Kou, a rice-growing area west of Burkina Faso. Insecticide Paint Inesfly 5A IGR™, comprised of two organophosphates and an insect growth regulator, was applied to doors and windows and tested in combination with pyrethroid-treated LLINs. The killing effect was monitored for 5 months by early morning collections of anophelines and other culicids. The residual efficacy was evaluated monthly by WHO bioassays using Anopheles gambiae 'Kisumu' and local populations of Anopheles coluzzii resistant to pyrethroids. The spatial mortality efficacy (SME) at distances of 1 m was also assessed against pyrethroid-susceptible and -resistant malaria vectors. The frequency of L1014F kdr and Ace-1 R G119S mutations was, respectively, reported throughout the study. The Insecticide Paint Inesfly 5A IGR had been tested in past studies yielding a long-term mortality rate of 80% over 12 months against An. coluzzii, the local pyrethroid-resistant malaria vector. The purpose of the present study is to test if treating smaller, targeted surfaces (e.g. doors and windows) was also efficient in killing malaria vectors. Treating windows and doors alone yielded a killing efficacy of 100% for 1 month against An. coluzzii resistant to pyrethroids, but efficacy reduced quickly afterwards. Likewise, WHO cone bioassays yielded mortalities of 80-100% for 2 months but declined to 90 and 40% 2 and 3 months after treatment, respectively. Mosquitoes exposed to insecticide paint-treated surfaces at distances of 1 m, yielded mortality rates of about 90-80% against local pyrethroids-resistant An. coluzzii during the first 2 months, but decreased to 30% afterwards.     Full Text Available Prevence představuje nejúčinnější prostředek proti užívání drog. Na jedné straně vytváří tělesná aktivita řadu faktorů, které vedou k přijetí zdravých stravovacích návyků, na druhé straně představuje prevenci užívání drog, protože sama o sobě určitým způsobem stimuluje tělo i mysl. Cílem provedeného výzkumu bylo stanovit stupeň obeznámenosti s návykovými látkami a jejich užíváním (například cigarety, alkohol a marihuana u dětí ve vztahu k frekvenci jejich zapojení do sportovních aktivit. Vzorek obsahoval 748 dětí, z čehož bylo 194 žáků a 189 žákyň čtvrtých tříd (jejichž průměrný věk byl 10 let ± 5 měsíců, a 201 žáků a 164 žákyň sedmých tříd (jejichž průměrný věk byl 13 let ± 4 měsíce. Uvedené údaje byly získány v rámci projektu "Tělesná/sportovní aktivita pro zdraví" probíhajícího v Ústavu kinesiologického výzkumu ve Vědeckém a výzkumném středisku Primorske univerzity ve slovinském Koperu. Použili jsme dotazník IPAQ (International Physical Activity Questionnaire, který jsme poněkud upravili pro věk a specifické vlastnosti respondentů. Pro stanovení vztahu mezi nečíselnými proměnnými jsme použili korespondenční analýzu. Pro číselné proměnné jsme použili analýzu variance a t-testy nezávislých vzorků. Všechny hypotézy byly ověřovány s 5% statistickou úrovní rizika (p = 0,05. Výsledky potvrdily u žáků statisticky významný vztah mezi sportovní aktivitou, kouřením a užíváním alkoholu a marihuany. Faktem je, že i když problém užívání drog nemůže být zcela odstraněn, mohli bychom ho zásadním způsobem redukovat. Jedním z nejdůležitějších faktorů pro snižování užívání drog je proto rovněž zapojení mládeže do vhodných sportovních aktivit (zvláště ve volném čase, což by mělo být řízeno a plánováno rodiči a učiteli.     The present report introduces the technological trend of rainwater drainage information system mainly with radar rain gauges. The information network must be strengthened as measures against the urban flood from the rainwater drainage. A radar rain gauge-based combination is needed of synthetic and organic processing technologies covering the traveling prediction of rainfall, data communication and rainwater drainage/flooding prediction. The correction method and data communication/display technology are explained for the measurement with radar rain gauges. In both correlation function method and rainfall area pursuit method, the traveling of rainfall is predicted by utilizing the radar information for the sewerage system. For the drainage analysis, it is necessary to quantitatively estimate the rainwater drained into both main and branch sewerage lines. It is made by preparing a rainwater drainage model. The quantitative estimation of rainwater drained into the branch sewerage lines calls for a revised Road Research Laboratory guidance by the Ministry of Construction. Supplemented with knowledge by veteran operators, the displayed image of pump operation support system is simulated for its verification. 2 refs., 3 figs.

    The relationship between change in resistivity and rainfall was studied by continuously measuring resistivities of fracture zone and stratum boundary along the measuring line of 95m long from the top to bottom of rock slope. The measurement field was located on a hill of 150-200m high at the northern part of Arima-Takatsuki tectonic line. Electrodes of 30m in maximum measuring depth were arranged at 289 points by dipole-dipole method. Resistivity was continuously measured at time intervals of 6 hours. Apparent resistivity was hardly affected by rainfall at points with less infiltration of stormwater from the ground surface, while it decreased by rainfall at points on fracture zone, stratum boundary or bleeding channel. The change rate of apparent resistivity could be approximated with the exponential function of rainfall. In such case, the apparent resistivity under most dried condition at the concerned point should be used as reference maximum apparent resistivity. The change rate of apparent resistivity due to rainfall in fracture zone reflects infiltration of stormwater, suggesting to be useful for disaster prevention of slopes. 5 refs., 6 figs.

    Provenance characteristic is an important scientific parameter to identify ancient porcelain wares unearthed from sites and graves. The porcelain samples of Si-Long-Kou Yue kiln of Zhejiang Province, Hong-Zhou kiln of Jiangxi Province and Yao-Zhou kiln of Shanxi Province have been analyzed with neutron activation analysis (NAA). The experimental data were studied with statistic methods. The results show that the chemical compositions of porcelain body samples for three kilns were different. The difference was able to be identified. The body materials of both Si-Long-Kou Yue kiln and Hong-Zhou kiln of Jiangxi were similar. The samples of Yao-Zhou kiln in north of China existed obvious difference. (authors)

    Rodent models have been used extensively to study West Nile virus (WNV) infection because they develop severe neurological symptoms similar to those observed in human WNV neuroinvasive disease. Most of this research has focused on old lineage (L) 1 strains, while information about pathogenicity is lacking for the most recent L1 and L2 strains, as well as for newly defined lineages. In this study, 4-week-old Swiss mice were inoculated with a collection of 12 WNV isolates, comprising 10 old and recent L1 and L2 strains, the putative L6 strain from Malaysia and the proposed L7 strain Koutango (KOU). The intraperitoneal inoculation of 10-fold dilutions of each strain allowed the characterization of the isolates in terms of LD50, median survival times, ID50, replication in neural and extraneural tissues and antibody production. Based on these results, we classified the isolates in three groups: high virulence (all L1a strains, recent L2 strains and KOU), moderate virulence (B956 strain) and low virulence (Kunjin and Malaysian isolates). We determined that the inoculation of a single dose of 1000 p.f.u. would be sufficient to classify WNV strains by pathotype. We confirmed the enhanced virulence of the KOU strain with a high capacity to cause rapid systemic infection. We also corroborated that differences in pathogenicity among strains do not correlate with phylogenetic lineage or geographic origin, and confirmed that recent European and African WNV strains belonging to L1 and L2 are highly virulent and do not differ in their pathotype profile compared to the prototype NY99 strain.

This review attempts to summarize the investigations on hot tearing of magnesium alloys over the past decades. The hot tearing criteria including recently developed Kou's criterion are summarized and compared.     An angle-independent color mirror and an infrared dichroic beam splitter were the subjects of a design contest held in conjunction with the 2013 Optical Interference Coatings topical meeting of the Optical Society of America. A total of 17 designers submitted 63 designs, 22 for Problem A and 41 for Problem B. The submissions were created through a wide spectrum of design approaches and optimization strategies. Michael Trubetskov and Weidong Shen won the first contest by submitting color mirror designs with a zero color difference (ΔE00) between normal incidence and all other incidence angles up to 60° as well as the thinnest design. Michael Trubetskov also won the second contest by submitting beam-splitter designs that met the required transmission while having the lowest mechanical coating stress and thinnest design. Fabien Lemarchand received the second-place finish for the beam-splitter design. The submitted designs are described and evaluated.

    Air pollution constitutes the major threat to human health, whereas their adverse impacts and underlying mechanisms of different particular matters are not clearly defined. Ultrafine particles (UFPs) are high related to the anthropogenic emission sources, i.e. combustion engines and power plants. Their composition, source, typical characters, oxidative effects, potential exposure routes and health risks were thoroughly reviewed. UFPs play a major role in adverse impacts on human health and require further investigations in future toxicological research of air pollution. Unlike PM2.5, UFPs may have much more impacts on human health considering loads of evidences emerging from particulate matters and nanotoxicology research fields. The knowledge of nanotoxicology contributes to the understanding of toxicity mechanisms of airborne UFPs in air pollution.   8. About the Las Acacias, Trelew and Vassouras Magnetic Observatories Monitoring the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly Region Response to an Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejection

    The South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA) Region presents evolutive characteristics very important as were observed by a variety of satelital sensors. Important Magnetic Observatories with digital record monitor the effects of the Sun-Earth interaction, such as San Juan de Puerto Rico (SJG), Kourou (KOU), Vassouras (VSS), Las Acacias (LAS), Trelew (TRW), Vernadsky (AIA), Hermanus (HER) and Huancayo (HUA). In the present work we present the features registered during the geomagnetic storm in January 21, 2005, produced by a geoeffective Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) whose Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejection (ICME) was detected by the instrumental onboard the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) Sonde. We analize how the Magnetic Total Intensity records at VSS, TRW and LAS Observatories shows the effect of the entering particles to ionospherical dephts producing a field enhancement following the first Interplanetary Shock (IP) arrival of the ICME. This process manifest in the digital record as an increment over the magnetospheric Ring Current field effect and superinpossed effects over the Antarctic Auroral Electrojet. The analysis and comparison of the records demonstrate that the Ring Current effects are important in SJG and KOU but not in VSS, LAS and TRW observatories, concluding that SAMA region shows a enhancement of the ionospherical currents oposed to those generated at magnetospheric heighs.   9. Dynamics of multiple insecticide resistance in the malaria vector Anopheles gambiae in a rice growing area in South-Western Burkina Faso

    Full Text Available Abstract Background Insecticide resistance of the main malaria vector, Anopheles gambiae, has been reported in south-western Burkina Faso, West Africa. Cross-resistance to DDT and pyrethroids was conferred by alterations at site of action in the sodium channel, the Leu-Phe kdr mutation; resistance to organophosphates and carbamates resulted from a single point mutation in the oxyanion hole of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme designed as ace-1R. Methods An entomological survey was carried out during the rainy season of 2005 at Vallée du Kou, a rice growing area in south-western Burkina Faso. At the Vallée du Kou, both insecticide resistance mechanisms have been previously described in the M and S molecular forms of An. gambiae. This survey aimed i to update the temporal dynamics and the circumsporozoite infection rate of the two molecular forms M and S of An. gambiae ii to update the frequency of the Leu-Phe kdr mutation within these forms and finally iii to investigate the occurrence of the ace-1R mutation. Mosquitoes collected by indoor residual collection and by human landing catches were counted and morphologically identified. Species and molecular forms of An. gambiae, ace-1R and Leu-Phe kdr mutations were determined using PCR techniques. The presence of the circumsporozoite protein of Plasmodium falciparum was determined using ELISA. Results Anopheles gambiae populations were dominated by the M form. However the S form occurred in relative important proportion towards the end of the rainy season with a maximum peak in October at 51%. Sporozoite rates were similar in both forms. The frequency of the Leu-Phe kdr mutation in the S form reached a fixation level while it is still spreading in the M form. Furthermore, the ace-1R mutation prevailed predominately in the S form and has just started spreading in the M form. The two mutations occurred concomitantly both in M and S populations. Fluorescence imaging was used to visualize the distribution of nanoparticles after intra-articular injection. The chondrocyte-targeting efficiency and cellular uptake mechanism of HA-BSANPs were investigated using endocytic inhibitors.Results: HA-BSANPs were successfully prepared with HA coating the surface and amorphous drug in the core. Compared with BSANPs, HA-BSANPs exhibited improved uptake by chondrocytes through a receptor-mediated active uptake mechanism. The endocytosis process of BSANPs and HA-BSANPs involved clathrin-mediated endocytosis, caveolae-mediated endocytosis, and macropinocytosis. No apparent thickening or hyperplasia of the synovium was observed in either BSANPs or HA-BSANPs. The HA-BSANPs could reside in the articular cavity of rats for more than 14 days, which was significantly longer than BSANPs.Conclusion: HA-BSANPs are a promising carrier for articular-related diseases due to elongated articular residence and improved chondrocytic accumulation.Keywords: chondrocyte, intra-articular injection, hyaluronic acid, BSA, nanoparticles

However, roles of long noncoding RNAs in osteosarcoma remain unclear. This study is to investigate the clinical relevance and biological functions of long noncoding RNA 91H in osteosarcoma. Herein, we confirmed that 91H expression was notably increased in osteosarcoma patients and cell lines compared to healthy controls and normal human bone cell lines. High expression of 91H was significantly correlated with advanced clinical stage, chemotherapy after surgery, and tumor size >5 cm. Furthermore, 91H was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival in osteosarcoma patients after treatments. Additionally, the knockdown of 91H expression inhibited osteosarcoma cells’ proliferation and promoted their apoptosis in vitro. In summary, these findings indicate that 91H may be a novel biomarker for risk prognostication and also provide a clue to the molecular etiology of osteosarcoma.     Full Text Available Films made by and for particular social and ethnic peoples can reveal a great deal about identity issues. Here, I examine the cultural production, the content, and the socio-cultural and political significance of three Chao Fa-inspired Hmong films produced at Khek Noi, Thailand by Hmong American producers working with largely Hmong Thai actors. The first two, Chao Fa 1 and 2, were directed in 2009 by Kou Thao. The third, Vaj Tuam Thawj – The Legend of Chao Fa, was put together by Jimmy Vang, in 2010. Even though these Chao Fa films are fictional, they attempt to depict events and circumstances that are familiar to many first generation Hmong Americans, and they can muster strong emotions from people who see them as depicting factual history. In addition, just like many other American youth, many 1.5 generation Hmong are tied together by shared media experiences, including Hmong movies. Thus, the Chao Fa movies are important for producing and reproducing, reinforcing and dispersing ideas related to Hmong American identity and culture. They tell stories of the Hmong being oppressed by many different groups, and this history suggests why many Hmong—not only the Chao Fa—have long desired the type of independence and freedom from prejudice and discrimination that they imagine would come if the Hmong only had their own nation state.

    We present theoretical results for the propagation dynamics of an electromagnetic field pulse through rubidium vapor, while another field, a continuous-wave electromagnetic field, is present. The frequencies of both electromagnetic fields are resonant with the transition between the ground and excited state hyperfine levels of Rb, F g  → F e  = F g  ± 1. Detuning from resonance is done by the magnetic field oriented along the light propagation direction (Hanle configuration). When both the electromagnetic fields are simultaneously interacting with Rb atoms, either electromagnetically induced transparency or absorption is induced. Propagation dynamics was obtained solving the set of Maxwell–Bloch equations for the interacting atoms with two electromagnetic fields. Motivated by recent results (Brazhnikov et al 2011 Eur. Phys. J. D 63 315–25; Brazhnikov et al 2010 JETP Lett. 91 625–9; Kou et al 2011 Phys. Rev. A 84 063807), we have analyzed the influence of experimental parameters, laser polarization, and mutual phases between lasers, which can lead to optical switching, i.e. the transformation from electromagnetically induced absorption to transparency and vice versa.     Benzo[a]pyrene, a high molecular weight (HMW) polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) was removed from solution by Sphingomonas yanoikuyae JAR02 while growing on root products as a primary carbon and energy source. Plant root extracts of osage orange (Maclura pomifera), hybrid willow (Salix albaxmatsudana), or kou (Cordia subcordata), or plant root exudates of white mulberry (Morus alba) supported 15-20% benzo[a]pyrene removal over 24 h that was similar to a succinate grown culture and an unfed acetonitrile control. No differences were observed between the different root products tested. Mineralization of {sup 14}C-7-benzo[a]pyrene by S. yanoikuyae JAR02 yielded 0.2 to 0.3% {sup 14}CO{sub 2} when grown with plant root products. Collectively, these observations were consistent with field observations of enhanced phytoremediation of HMW PAH and corroborated the hypothesis that co-metabolism may be a plant/microbe interaction important to rhizoremediation. However, degradation and mineralization was much less for root product-exposed cultures than salicylate-induced cultures, and suggested the rhizosphere may not be an optimal environment for HMW PAH degradation by Sphingomonas yanoikuyae JAR02. - Bacterial benzo[a]pyrene cometabolism, a plant-microbe interaction affecting polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon phytoremediation was demonstrated with Sphingomonas yanoikuyae JAR02 that utilized plant root extracts and exudates as primary substrates.

  8. Stretching the stress boundary: Linking air pollution health effects to a neurohormonal stress response.

    Inhaled pollutants produce effects in virtually all organ systems in our body and have been linked to chronic diseases including hypertension, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's and diabetes. A neurohormonal stress response (referred to here as a systemic response produced by activation of the sympathetic nervous system and hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-axis) has been implicated in a variety of psychological and physical stresses, which involves immune and metabolic homeostatic mechanisms affecting all organs in the body. In this review, we provide new evidence for the involvement of this well-characterized neurohormonal stress response in mediating systemic and pulmonary effects of a prototypic air pollutant - ozone. A plethora of systemic metabolic and immune effects are induced in animals exposed to inhaled pollutants, which could result from increased circulating stress hormones. The release of adrenal-derived stress hormones in response to ozone exposure not only mediates systemic immune and metabolic responses, but by doing so, also modulates pulmonary injury and inflammation. With recurring pollutant exposures, these effects can contribute to multi-organ chronic conditions associated with air pollution. This review will cover, 1) the potential mechanisms by which air pollutants can initiate the relay of signals from respiratory tract to brain through trigeminal and vagus nerves, and activate stress responsive regions including hypothalamus; and 2) the contribution of sympathetic and HPA-axis activation in mediating systemic homeostatic metabolic and immune effects of ozone in various organs. The potential contribution of chronic environmental stress in cardiovascular, neurological, reproductive and metabolic diseases, and the knowledge gaps are also discussed. Notably, although the high prevalence of smoking in teens has been well documented in the literature, few studies have evaluated the impact of smoking and secondhand smoke (SHS exposure on their respiratory system.  Objective: To investigate the effects of smoking and SHS exposure on the respiratory health and lung function among eighth-grade students in Juárez, Mexico. Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken on a sample of convenience. The study outcomes centered on evaluating 300 students’ lung function by spirometry (forced expiratory volume in 1 second [FEV1], forced expiratory volume in 1 second/forced vital capacity ratio [FEV1/FVC], and forced mid-expiratory flow rate [FEF25%–75%] and their respiratory health (smoking behavior and SHS exposure by their self-reported responses to a standardized respiratory questionnaire. The study outcomes were compared among three distinct groups: 1 nonsmokers/nonexposed to SHS; 2 nonsmokers/exposed to SHS; and 3 smokers. Results: The majority of the study participants were 14 years old (85%, females (54%, who attended eighth grade in a public school setting (56%. Approximately, half reported being of low socioeconomic status (49% and nonsmokers/exposed to SHS (49%. The lung function parameters of smokers were found to be lower (FEV1 =62.88±10.25; FEV1/FVC =83.50±14.15; and FEF25%–75% =66.35±12.55 than those recorded for the nonsmokers/exposed to SHS (FEV1 =69.41±11.35; FEV1/FVC =88.75±15.75; and FEF25%–75% =78.90±14.65 and significantly reduced when compared to the nonsmokers/nonexposed to SHS (FEV1 =79.14±13

Also, we observed that aged rats that received B210 treatment had significantly increased PNA, RLNA, and HNA, extended TI and TE of PNA, and prolonged Pre-TI of HNA compared to rats that received sham treatment.     Full Text Available Cílem tohoto průzkumu bylo zjistit, zda u 14letých žáků existuje korelace mezi sportovní aktivitou a užíváním návykových látek. Tento průzkum je založen na dotazníku s 38 proměnnými, přičemž pravděpodobnostní vztahy mezi proměnnými byly testovány pomocí chí-kvadrát testu. Analýza ukázala, že ve svém volném čase se sportu věnuje 80 % chlapců a 85 % dívek. Sportu se věnují většinou dvakrát až třikrát týdně. Většina chlapců se věnuje sportu závodně (39 %, zatímco dívky se věnují především rekreačním pohybovým aktivitám (48 %. Pokud jde o kouření, ke kuřákům patří 4 % procenta chlapců a 12 % dívek. Většina chlapců začala kouřit ve věku 13 let, dívky ve věku 12 let. 90 % chlapců a 94 % dívek již nějaký alkoholický nápoj vyzkoušelo – jde tedy o většinu žáků ve věku od 10 do 13 let. Pokud jde o užívání drog, vyzkoušelo je 18 % chlapců a 26 % dívek. Nejčastějšími typy drog jsou inhalace, pilulky a marihuana. Většina žáků prohlásila, že kouření, pití alkoholu a užívání nelegálních návykových látek vyzkoušela ze zvědavosti. Rodiče většinou podporují děti v provozování sportu. Většina žáků se domnívá, že sport a kouření spolu nejde dohromady. Domnívají se, že sportovní aktivity jsou činnosti, které by od užívání návykových látek mohly odrazovat. Zjistili jsme, že mezi sportovními aktivitami a užíváním legálních i nelegálních návykových látek není statisticky významná korelace. Statisticky významná korelace však byla zjištěna u pití alkoholu v případě chlapců (pivo a víno a inhalace látek v případě dívek. Rozdíly by zřejmě mohly být výraznější v pozdějším věku – při přechodu mezi základní a střední školou. Mladé lidi by bylo možno od užívání legálních i nelegálních návykových látek odradit nabídkou většího množství aktivit, kter

The aim of the present study was to investigate the antibacterial effect and bone cell biocompatibility of a novel implant made with nanotubular anodized titanium coated with gentamicin (NTATi-G through in vivo study in ­rabbits. The animals were divided into four groups, each receiving different kinds of implants, that is, NTATi-G, titanium coated with gentamicin (Ti-G, nanotubular anodized titanium uncoated with gentamicin (NTATi and titanium uncoated with gentamicin (Ti. The results showed that NTATi-G implant prevented implant-related osteomyelitis and enhanced bone biocompatibility in vivo. Moreover, the body temperature of rabbits in NTATi-G and Ti-G groups was lower than those in Ti groups, while the weight of rabbits in NTATi-G and Ti-G groups was heavier than those in NTATi and Ti groups, respectively. White blood cell counts in NTATi-G group were lower than NTATi and Ti groups. Features of myelitis were observed by X-ray films in the NTATi and Ti groups, but not in the NTATi-G and Ti-G groups. The radiographic scores, which assessed pathology and histopathology in bone tissues, were significantly lower in the NTATi-G and Ti-G groups than those in the NTATi and Ti groups, respectively (P<0.05. Meanwhile, explants and bone tissue culture demonstrated significantly less bacterial growth in the NTATi-G and Ti-G groups than in the NTATi and Ti groups, respectively (P<0.01. But associated low bone mass, wear and loss characteristics, and high coefficients of friction have limited their long-term stable performance, especially in certain abnormal bone-metabolism conditions, such as postmenopausal osteoporosis. In this study, we investigated the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP treatment and TiO2 nanoporous modification on the stability of titanium implants in osteoporotic bone. After surface morphology, topographical structure, and chemical changes of implant surface had been detected by scanning electron microscopy (SEM, atomic force microscopy, contact-angle measurement, and X-ray diffraction, we firstly assessed in vivo the effect of PRP treatment on osseointegration of TiO2-modified implants in ovariectomized rats by microcomputed tomography examinations, histology, biomechanical testing, and SEM observation. Meanwhile, the potential molecular mechanism involved in peri-implant osseous enhancement was also determined by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The results showed that this TiO2-modified surface was able to lead to improve bone implant contact, while PRP treatment was able to increase the implant surrounding bone mass. The synergistic effect of both was able to enhance the terminal force of implants drastically in biomechanical testing. Using GSE4107 datasets downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus, the differentially expressed genes (DEGs were screened by comparing the RNA expression from the colonic mucosa between 12 CRC patients and ten healthy controls using a paired t-test. The Gene Ontology (GO functional and pathway enrichment analyses of DEGs were performed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID software followed by the construction of a protein–protein interaction (PPI network. In addition, hub gene identification and GO functional and pathway enrichment analyses of the modules were performed. A total of 612 up- and 639 downregulated genes were identified. The upregulated DEGs were mainly involved in the regulation of cell growth, migration, and the MAPK signaling pathway. The downregulated DEGs were significantly associated with oxidative phosphorylation, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Moreover, FOS, FN1, PPP1CC, and CYP2B6 were selected as hub genes in the PPI networks. Two modules (up-A and up-B in the upregulated PPI network and three modules (d-A, d-B, and d-C in the downregulated PPI were identified with the threshold of Molecular Complex Detection (MCODE Molecular Complex Detection (MCODE score ≥4 and nodes ≥6.   16. Heavy metal pollution in reservoirs in the hilly area of southern China: Distribution, source apportionment and health risk assessment.

    Reservoirs play more and more important role in providing potable water in many developing countries, including the China. In the present study, pollution characteristics, source and health risk of dissolved heavy metals in 19 representative reservoirs in the hilly area of southern China were investigated. The results presented great spatial heterogeneity in heavy metal concentrations among the studied reservoirs due to the disturbances by different anthropogenic activities. Several reservoirs had significantly higher concentrations of heavy metals compared with others, FengTan (FT) reservoir (0.34μg/L in dry season), Cr in reservoirs of HuangShi (HS) and ZheLin (ZL) with values of 4.16μg/L and 3.45μg/L in dry season respectively, and Al in reservoirs of JiaoKou (JK), GuTian (GT) and DouShui (DS) with values of 1011μg/L, 1036μg/L and 1001μg/L in wet season, respectively. Furthermore, there was a great difference in the seasonal variation of heavy metals, especially for Al and Pb in wet season characterized with relatively high values of 643μg/L and 0.67μg/L, respectively. Accordingly, Al was identified with a great health risk to living beings in view of its mean value in wet season, which greatly exceeded the criteria for drinking water of China, WHO and US EPA. Furthermore, As might be the greatest concern of health risk in this region considering its high carcinogenic risk to the local residents around the reservoirs of OuYangHai (OYH), DS, ZhiXi (ZX) and HS. Multivariate statistical analysis suggested that there was great heterogeneity in the sources of these heavy metals in the hilly area of southern China. Therefore, specific measures, such as controls on point source pollution control and tailings, should be taken for maintaining drinking water safety and aquatic ecosystem health. Pharmacokinetics study was performed to investigate the influences of verapamil and clove oil on ECH bioavailability in vivo. All samples were measured at different time intervals by high performance liquid chromatography.Results: The results showed that the effective permeability coefficient (Peff and apparent permeability coefficient of ECH were 0.83×10-6–3.23×10-6 cm/s and 2.99×10-6–9.86×10-6 cm/s, respectively. The Peff among duodenum, jejunum, and ileum were not statistically different, but they were higher than colon (P<0.01, which demonstrated that intestinal ECH absorption was poor and site dependent. Additionally, verapamil and clove oil significantly increased the jejunal Peff of ECH both in situ and in vitro. Moreover, the bioavailability of ECH in combination with verapamil and clove oil were increased by 1.37-fold (P<0.05 and 2.36-fold (P<0.001, respectively, when compared to ECH group. Overall, verapamil and clove oil facilitated ECH absorption and oral bioavailability.Conclusion: The absorption and bioavailability of ECH were enhanced by verapamil and clove oil, respectively, both in vitro and in vivo. Abstracts and full-text papers which investigated the cervical metastases to level IIb from primary head and neck cancers and were deemed potentially relevant were screened. Data were analyzed using RevMan 5.3.Results: Four hundred and fifty-five abstracts and 129 full-text papers were screened, and 22 studies were included in the analysis. Among the 2001 patients included, 112 patients had level IIb metastases, the pooled frequency of which was 6% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 4.0–7.0. Among the 400 patients with tongue squamous cell carcinoma from 12 studies, 37 patients had level IIb metastases, the pooled incidence of which was 7% (95% CI: 5.0–10.0. Materials and methods: This article screened the abstract and full-text papers that investigated salivary gland primary ACC of head and neck. Two independent reviewers searched for articles published before October 2017 in three databases (Web of Science, PubMed, and Ovid, having no limits in date and language. Statistical data were analyzed statistically by Review Manager 5.3. Results: In total, 18 studies involving 2993 patients were included in the analysis. Of the 2993 patients, 473 patients had cervical lymph node metastasis, with a merge frequency of 16% (95% CI: 13–19. Among included articles, only 4 involved cervical lymph node occult metastases, with a merge frequency of 14% (95% CI: 9–20. There were 5 articles containing minor salivary glands (MiSGs involving 370 patients of which 92 patients had cervical lymph node metastases and the merge frequency was 25% (95% CI: 11–38. Moreover, there were 4 studies on major salivary glands involving 904 patients of which 158 patients had cervical lymph node metastases and the merge frequency was 17% (95% CI: 15–20. Conclusion: Elective neck dissection is unnecessary for all patients with salivary gland ACC of head and neck. Moreover, compared with major salivary glands, MiSGs have a higher cervical lymph node metastases rate in ACC. The overall cervical lymph node metastases rate of MiSGs is 25%, which is enough to attract our attention. Therefore, we suggest that neck dissection might be

The first DAMAS conference took place in 1995 (Pescara, Italy), followed by a biannual meeting in 1997 (Sheffield, UK), 1999 (Dublin, Ireland), 2001 (Cardiff, UK), 2003 (Southampton, UK), 2005 (Gdansk, Poland), 2007 (Torino, Italy), 2009 (Beijing, China), 2011 (Oxford, UK) and 2013 (Dublin, Ireland). The eleventh edition of DAMAS conference series, DAMAS 2015, is hosted by Ghent University, Belgium, and is held at the congress center Het Pand in Ghent city. Ghent is the capital and the largest city of the East Flanders province of the Flemish region of Belgium. Het Pand is the culture and congress center of Ghent University and is a historical monument. The participants were encouraged to present their work in progress with a short lead time, and the conference promoted discussion of the problems encountered. The ICPF2013 brought together 191 scientists and researchers from 14 countries, affiliated with universities, technology centers and industrial firms to debate topics related to advanced technologies for pumps and fans, which would enhance the sustainable development of fluid machinery and fluid engineering. However, the expression of TUSC3 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC tissues remains ambiguous. The purpose of this research was to investigate the expression of TUSC3 in HCC tissues and analyze the relationship between TUSC3 levels and clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of HCC patients. Materials and methods: Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of TUSC3 in HCC and the corresponding para-cancerous tissues from 92 samples of HCC patients. mRNA and protein expression levels of TUSC3 were evaluated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR and Western blot assays in 25 paired HCC and corresponding adjacent nontumor tissues. Furthermore, statistical analysis was applied to evaluate the correlation between TUSC3 level and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of HCC patients. Results: Immunohistochemical assay indicated that the expression of TUSC3 was significantly lower in HCC tissues when compared with the corresponding para-cancerous tissues (χ2=11.512, P=0.001. CÍLE: Cílem práce bylo analyzovat odchylky v dynamice oporové fáze při prvním a druhém kroku akcelerovaného běhu po výběhu z bloků. METODIKA: 10 mužů (22.9 ± 4.6 roku se zúčastnilo laboratorního šetření. K detekci kontaktních sil během oporových fází v obou krocích byla použita dynamometrická deska (Kistler 9281 EA – Winterthur, Švýcarsko. Výpočty silových impulsů, produkce rychlosti a průměrného zrychlení byly provedeny v programu Matlab (The MathWorks, Inc., Natick, USA. V Matlabu jsme provedli i následný párový T-test a korelační analýzu. VÝSLEDKY: Statisticky významné diference (α = 0.01 mezi první a druhou oporou byly nalezeny v délce kontaktu, produkci horizontální rychlosti a průměrném zrychlení. Produkce horizontální rychlosti činila v prvním kroku 1.117 ± 0.081 ms-1 a 0.835 ± 0.074 ms-1 během druhého kroku. Průměrné zrychlení ukázalo negativní korelaci s tělesnou výškou atleta (r = -0.42. Pokud se během prvních 20-40 ms oporové fáze objevil brzdný impuls, docházelo k prodloužení trvání oporové fáze a celkovému nižšímu průměrnému zrychlení. ZÁVĚRY: Výskyt brzdné fáze v prvních krocích po výběhu z bloků je považován za technický nedostatek. Atleti vyššího vzrůstu jsou pro akcelerovaný běh lehce znevýhodněni. Oporové fáze prvního a druhého kroku vykazují významné odlišnosti v dynamických parametrech.

    Full Text Available El objetivo de este estudio es determinar en qué condiciones se produce y cuánto perdura el rápido crecimiento de la variación de intensidad del campo magnético durante la fase principal de una tormenta geomagnética (dB, y si depende de la intensidad del campo principal donde ésta se registra. Para ello se comparan variaciones de tormentas calculadas dentro y fuera de la Anomalía Geomagnética del Atlántico Sur (SAMA, donde el campo geomagnético principal es mínimo. Con los registros del observatorio de Vassouras (latitud baja, Brasil se calculan las variaciones de tormenta correspondientes a la zona de la Anomalía. Los registros del observatorio de Kourou (KOU a la misma longitud geográfica y latitud geomagnética conjugada, y los de Kakadu (Australia y Kanoya (Japón, a 180° de longitud y algo mayor latitud, se utilizan para la comparación. Se seleccionan tormentas geomagnéticas registradas entre los años 2000 y 2009 que presentan una fase principal bien definida según el índice Dst, independientemente de su intensidad y de al menos media hora de duración. Se establece que a las características generales de las variaciones de tormentas registradas en la SAMA son compartidas con las registradas fuera de la región; b por lo general, el decrecimiento rápido de la componente norte X es mayor en VSS, pero no es independiente de la hora de inicio ni la época del año; c por lo general la variación de tormenta del campo total (dB es mayor en VSS, pero no es independiente de la hora de inicio ni la época del año.     Full Text Available Význam somatických předpokladů je u skoku do výšky zřejmý. V průběhu našeho hodnocení byla potvrzena významná závislost tělesné stavby a výkonu, a to u všech skupin žen a mužů věnujících se skoku do výšky s vysokými průměrnými výkony. Měření probíhalo v období od r. 1983 do r. 2005. Všechny tyto skupiny se vyznačovaly relativně velkou homogenností většiny somatických ukazatelů. Měření, která používáme za základ v následujících částech příspěvku, probíhala v průběhu více než dvou desetiletí. Zahrnují jednoduchý průřezový průzkum skupin žen a mužů (n = 117 a také průběžné monitorování vybraných jednotlivců. V souladu s tělesným vývojem žen a mužů věnujících se skoku do výšky byly měřené skupiny voleny samozřejmě záměrně a lze je označit za "částečně zvolené skupiny" s ohledem na výkon i tělesnou stavbu. V průběhu našeho průzkumu lze u všech skupin pozorovat změny v tělesné stavbě způsobené výběrem a následně specific kou tréninkovou zátěží a rovněž samotnou náročnou atletickou disciplínou. The significance of somatic prerequisites for the high jump is evident. In the course of our evaluation, a significant dependence of the physique on performance was confirmed with all the groups of female and male high jumpers having high average performances, which were measured over the period from 1983 to 2005. All these groups were characterized by relatively large homogeneity in most somatic indicators. The measurements we use as a base in the following parts of this paper were carried out over the course of more than two decades. They include single cross-section examinations of the groups of female and male high jumpers (n = 117 as well as longitudinal monitoring of selected individuals.     Full Text Available V průběhu několika posledních let vzrostly možnosti jedinců s tělesným postiženým zapojit se do fyzických činností. Z tohoto důvodu je uznáván význam zvládnutí sportovních dovedností ještě před samotnou účastí v soutěžích. O stále oblíbenějším sledge hokeji bylo dosud provedeno málo výzkumů. Hlavní složkou výkonu je analýza dovedností. Vzhledem k její uznávané důležitosti a současnému nedostatku příslušných výzkumů na tomto poli jsme při této studii využili videozáznamů z paralympijského sledge hokejového turnaje z Turína v roce 2006, které nám poskytly možnost vytvořit protokol o pozorování s podrobnými kritérii toho, co utváří vyspělé profesionální sledge hokejové dovednosti. Proběhly konzultace s odborníky z tohoto odvětví a jejich zpětná vazba nám umožnila vytvořit tento nástroj. Po dokončení protokolu jsme provedli pilotní vyhodnocení, pro které byli hráči vybíráni na základě statistik z paralympijských her. Tito hráči byli poté pomocí našeho protokolu hodnoceni. Bylo prokázáno, že protokol dokáže úspěšně rozlišovat hráče vyšší a nižší úrovně. CÍLE: Účelem této studie bylo odhalit stávající charakteristiky vůdcovské role dobrovolníků ve slovinských nevládních sportovních organizacích. METODIKA: Výzkum se prováděl na stratifikovaném vzorku 190 vedoucích nevládních sportovních organizací, kteří pracují v různých segmentech slovinského sportu. Měření různých stylů vedení bylo provedeno za pomoci dotazníku o způsobech vedení, zpracovaného na základě situačního modelu vedení Herseyho a Blancharda. VÝSLEDKY: Studie odhalila, že vedoucí sportovních organizací nejčastěji využívají koučování (selling – 42 % případů a podporování (participating – 37 %, zatímco přikazování (telling – 12 % a delegování (delegating – 9 % se používá mnohem méně. Vedoucí přizpůsobují styl vedení aktuálním okolnostem; ovšem nepoužívají vhodný styl vedení vzhledem k úrovni připravenosti svých svěřenců a okolností. Styl vedení nemá přímý dopad na měřené indikátory úspěšnosti sportovních organizací. Zjištění vedou k závěru, že vedoucí slovinských nevládních sportovních organizací obecně přehlížejí význam vůdcovství v tomto kontextu. ZÁVĚRY: Vzhledem k výše uvedeným průměrným výsledkům slovinského sportu lze vyvozovat, že dobrovolná práce ve sportovních organizacích představuje jednu z konkurenčních výhod v naší společnosti. Je proto nezbytné věnovat zvláštní pozornost jejímu rozvojovému potenciálu. Zjištění studie vedou k závěru, že by bylo vhodné ustavit národní strategii dobrovolné práce ve sportu.

    Full Text Available Velmi nízká účast nevidomých na sportovních aktivitách je způsobena především nedostatečnými znalostmi odborníků v oblasti sportu pro postižené osoby. Sportovní trenéři a 582 budoucí učitelé tělesné výchovy byli dotazováni na znalosti a představy o sportovních aktivitách osob s postižením, především nevidomých. Průzkum prokázal, že učitelům tělesné výchovy a trenérům, kteří se účastní sportovních aktivit určených pro postižené, dobré úmysly v zásadě neschází a že hlavní překážkou je nedostatek témat týkajících se sportu pro postižené v osnovách studijních oborů. Janečka, Kudláček a Válková (2003 zdůraznili zásadní potřebu speciálně připravených učitelů tělesné výchovy, a to především na základních školách. Osobní zkušenosti a přímý kontakt s nevidomými sportovci nemohou být nahrazeny audiovizuálními vzdělávacími metodami. Nevidomí se nemohou v důsledku svého postižení stát trenéry, takže sport pro nevidomé musí být rozvíjen s aktivní podporou a spoluprací se sportovními odborníky bez zrakového postižení. Sport pro postižené musí být vyučován jako samostatný předmět nebo alespoň jako samostatný a zdůrazňovaný úsek již stávajícího běžného předmětu, jako je teorie tréninku. Z metodického hlediska je zásadní a nenahraditelný osobní kontakt s nevidomými a také praktická setkání v průběhu výchovy (Asjborn & Tonjum, 1986. Studenti by neměli školu opouštět bez specifických znalostí o sportu pro postižené a o možných způsobech zapojení nevidomých do sportovních aktivit. Takový mnohostranný přístup ke vzdělávání je budoucí a moderní metodou výuky.   12. Biorthogonal moment expansions in coupled-cluster theory: Review of key concepts and merging the renormalized and active-space coupled-cluster methods

    -body components of T and R μ via active orbitals and which recover much of the relevant non-dynamical and some dynamical electron correlation effects in applications involving potential energy surfaces (PESs) along bond breaking coordinates, for the effects of higher-order, primarily dynamical, correlations missing in the active-space CC/EOMCC considerations. The Flex-MMCC corrections to the active-space CC/EOMCC energies are mathematically similar to the non-iterative energy corrections defining the existing left-eigenstate CR-CC and CR-EOMCC methods, such as CR-CC(2, 3) and CR-EOMCC(2, 3). The potential advantages of the Flex-MMCC and CC(P; Q) formalisms are illustrated by describing the initial implementation and numerical tests of the novel CC hybrid scheme, abbreviated as CC(t; 3), in which one corrects the results of the CC calculations with singles, doubles, and active-space triples, termed CCSDt, for the remaining effects due to connected triple excitations that are missing in the CCSDt considerations, but are present in the MMCC-based CR-CC(2, 3) approach. By examining bond breaking in the HF, F 2 , and F 2 + molecules, it is demonstrated that the CC(t; 3) method improves the CCSDt and CR-CC(2, 3) results, providing PESs that agree with those obtained with the full CC theory with singles, doubles, and triples (CCSDT) to within small fractions of a millihartree, at the fraction of the computer costs of the CCSDT calculations. Different strategies for defining active-space triples within the CC(t; 3) scheme and the underlying CCSDt method are discussed. When limited to the ground-state problem, the CC(t; 3) approach can be regarded as an improved and rigorously derived extension of the recently proposed CCSD(T)-h method [J. Shen, E. Xu, Z. Kou, S. Li, J. Chem. Phys. 132 (2010) 114115], in which triples corrections of the CCSD(T) type are replaced by their more robust CR-CC(2, 3)-style analogs.

    Full Text Available V tejto práci sme pomocou kombinácií kontinuálnych meraní a deštruktívnych odberov vzorníkov sledovali a porovnali zásobu nadzemnej biomasy a ročnú primárnu produkciu (NPP v prirodzene obnovených mladých porastoch buka a smreka. Na vybranej lokalite predpokladáme, že zmenené klimatické podmienky budú lepšie vyhovovať buku pred v súčasnosti prevládajúcim smrekom. Lokalita Vrchslatina sa nachádza v južnej časti Veporských vrchov v nadmorskej výške 977 m nad morom (48° 38΄ 50΄΄ N, 19° 36΄ 07΄΄ E. Priemerné ročné zrážky sa pohybujú okolo 900 mm, priemerná ročná teplota je 5,2 °C. Na sledovanej lokalite sme pozorovali odlišný priebeh rastu buka a smreka. Pri buku bola pozorovaná menšia medziročná mortalita, udržiaval sa až prehustený zápoj, v ktorom sa aj podúrovňové stromy snažili dostať do úrovne. Toto sa prejavilo na tvare kmeňov, ktoré sú tenké a vysoké. Štíhlostný koeficient sa pri stromoch so strednou hrúbkou a strednou výškou postupne zvyšoval od 1,19 do 1,40. Pri smreku dochádza k vyššej mortalite, vrastavé a podúrovňové stromy odumierajú z dôvodu nedostatku svetla. Stromy rastú viac do hrúbky, čo sa odráža aj na štíhlostnom koeficiente, ktorý bol po celé obdobie viac-menej konštantný a pohyboval sa v rozpätí 0,89 až 0,93 (tab. 1. Zásoby kmeňa sú pri smreku v jednotlivých rokoch o 3 - 10 m3.ha-1 väčšie ako pri buku (tab. 3. Po prepočítaní na sušinu je vplyvom rozdielnej objemovej hmotnosti (obr. 5 celková zásoba sušiny drevných častí (kmeň a konáre väčšia pri buku (tab. 3. Najväčší rozdiel medzi drevinami je v zásobe asimilačných orgánov, ktorá je pri smreku viac než trojnásobná (tab. 3 a 4. The Flex-MMCC corrections to the active-space CC/EOMCC energies are mathematically similar to the non-iterative energy corrections defining the existing left-eigenstate CR-CC and CR-EOMCC methods, such as CR-CC(2, 3) and CR-EOMCC(2, 3). The potential advantages of the Flex-MMCC and CC(P; Q) formalisms are illustrated by describing the initial implementation and numerical tests of the novel CC hybrid scheme, abbreviated as CC(t; 3), in which one corrects the results of the CC calculations with singles, doubles, and active-space triples, termed CCSDt, for the remaining effects due to connected triple excitations that are missing in the CCSDt considerations, but are present in the MMCC-based CR-CC(2, 3) approach. By examining bond breaking in the HF, F2, and F2+ molecules, it is demonstrated that the CC(t; 3) method improves the CCSDt and CR-CC(2, 3) results, providing PESs that agree with those obtained with the full CC theory with singles, doubles, and triples (CCSDT) to within small fractions of a millihartree, at the fraction of the computer costs of the CCSDT calculations. Different strategies for defining active-space triples within the CC(t; 3) scheme and the underlying CCSDt method are discussed. When limited to the ground-state problem, the CC(t; 3) approach can be regarded as an improved and rigorously derived extension of the recently proposed CCSD(T)-h method [J. Shen, E. Xu, Z. Kou, S. Li, J. Chem. Phys. 132 (2010) 114115], in which triples corrections of the CCSD(T) type are replaced by their more robust CR-CC(2, 3)-style analogs.

  15. Assessment of waterfront location in hardened concrete by GPR within COST Action TU1208

    drying were immersed into water for a certain time. Then, GPR measurements, with a 2 GHz central frequency antenna, were performed at specific time intervals, placing the antenna on the same side of the concrete samples that was immersed into water. After conducting GPR measurements, concrete samples were broken in two pieces to perform the visual analysis of the waterfront advance. After processing the GPR records velocity increments ware calculated and analyzed. Very accurate adjustments were found between the velocity increments and the waterfront depth, regardless the wave peaks of the direct and reflected wave used to calculate velocity increments. These results are of quite importance, because even if we are not able to locate the waterfront reflection or if it is overlapped with the direct wave signal, we might predict the waterfront position with high reliability.     Full Text Available Je známo, že funkční typy a subtypy nohy dle Roota se liší mimo jiné i výškou nožní klenby při zatížení. Cílem této práce bylo porovnat výšku podélné nožní klenby u funkčních (subtypů nohy dle Roota pomocí Chippaux-Šmiřákova indexu (CSI. Soubor tvořilo 141 žen (17–85 let, x = 58,8, SD = 12 a 87 mužů (22–86 let, x = 58,7, SD = 11,91 převážně středního a vyššího věku. Jeden vyšetřující stanovil u všech probandů funkční typ a subtyp nohy – varozní zánoží kompenzované (RFvarC, částečně kompenzovaná (RFvarP a nekompenzované (RFvarN, varozní předonoží kompenzované (FFvarC, částečně kompenzované (FFvarP a nekompenzované (FFvarN, valgozní předonoží flexibilní (FFvalgF, semiflexibilní (FFvalgS a rigidní (FFvalgR a neutrální typ (N. Druhý vyšetřující zhodnotil všechny plantogramy a stanovil CSI. Na základě průměrné hodnoty CSI bylo stanoveno pořadí a statistická významnost zjištěných rozdílů byla testována pomocí ANOVA a post-hoc Fisherova LSD testu. Výsledky ukázaly, že funkční subtypy lze s vysokou mírou statistické pravděpodobnosti rozdělit do 2 krajních skupin. Na jedné straně spektra leží subtypy s vysokou hodnotu CSI (tedy nižší podélnou klenbou, kompenzované, resp. flexibilní subtypy. Na opačné pravé straně spektra leží nekompenzované, resp. rigidní subtypy s nízkou hodnotou CSI. Ve střední části spektra leží přechodné subtypy. Neutrální funkční typ lze zařadit do střední skupiny, spíše k levé straně. Vliv pohlaví je zanedbatelný. Výsledky tak potvrdily předpoklad o rozdílech mezi funkčními (subtypy ve výšce podélné nožní klenby při zatížení. Stanovení výšky podélné klenby nohy pomocí plantogramu může pomoci při odhadu stupně kompenzace či flexibility jednotlivých funkčních typů.     are overlooked in favour of blaming the athlete. The collective does not share the responsibility but instead places it entirely on the athlete. In this paper, I argue that the participatory intentions of the athlete's support personnel make them complicit to the act and therefore partially accountable for the doping offence. Drawing on Christopher Kutz and Margaret Gilbert's accounts of shared intentions and collective responsibility, I argue that the group members' participatory intentions warrant holding the entire group responsible. The implication of this view is that doping is a collective act, rather than an individual one, and anti-doping officials should focus more on the complicitous nature of doping. Přestože je obtížné označit atletovu účast ve sportu za výhradně individuální nebo kolektivní akt, je snadné obhájit, že sport má jak veřejný, tak i soukromý rozměr. Podobně lze nahlížet na atlety soupeřící při sportovní události z redukcionistického hlediska, které je považuje za jednotlivce plnící své vlastní odlišné role, nebo z hlediska kolektivního, které je označuje za skupinu snažící se naplnit společný cíl. Zkoumání atletů, kteří byli přistiženi při použití látek zvyšujících výkon a postupů zakázaných Světovou antidopingovou agenturou, však ukazuje, že v oblasti sportovního dopingu nahrazuje často jasnější, jednodušší a vhodnější redukcionistické hledisko kolektivní pohled a vinu přičítá téměř výhradně danému atletovi. Konečné rozhodnutí vpravit do svého těla zakázanou látku bezpochyby činí atlet, a ten je proto příčinně odpovědný za selhání při dopingové zkoušce. Tvrdím však, že příčinná odpovědnost není zásadní složkou společné odpovědnosti. Jen v těch nejvzácnějších případech dokáže atlet vyzkoumat, které látky budou nejúčinnější, sám látky zvyšující výkon vyrobit a použít je bez pomoci svých tren

    combinatorics, and in the study of certain dualities between string theories and gauge theories known under the common epithet of AdS/CFT duality. This last trend is represented in this issue by the contribution of Kostov [56]. Other interests of Wu in both quantum and classical systems are reflected in the article by Barry12, Muttalib and Tanaka [57], and in the paper by Bauer, Bernard and Benoist on iterated stochastic measurements [58]. This latter paper appears very timely, since it is inspired by the experiments carried out in the group of Serge Haroche who earned the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physics. Wu met his wife Ching Tse (Jane) in Taipei. They married in 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri. They have three daughters; Yvonne, a Professor of Child Neurology at the University of California San Francisco, Yolanda, a women's rights lawyer and a teacher of Suzuki violin, and Yelena, a postdoc in Child Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Fred and Jane have five grandchildren. Wu left four siblings behind when he left China in 1949, and reunited with them after a 30-year separation for the first time in 1979. Two sisters and one brother are now deceased, and his younger brother, who also has three daughters, lives a comfortable life in retirement in Kunming, China. It has been a pleasure to assemble this collection of papers on the occasion of Fred's 80th birthday, and we wish to thank him for providing much of the biographical information on which this introduction is based. We are also grateful to all the contributors for providing such a diverse and decidedly very modern panorama of the topic of lattice models and integrability, and for meeting the strict deadlines necessary to ensure the completion of this issue before the year 2012 draws to an end. Fred Wu continues to be a highly productive, imaginative scientist, and we look forward to a continuing body of excellent work.
