    The fundamentals are presented in popular scientific form of the theory of nuclear reactors. The basic types thereof are described and their designs depicted, the basic parameters given and a brief description is presented of the first Czechoslovak nuclear power plant, the A-1, and of WWER nuclear power plants. Special attention is devoted to nuclear safety, to the economic aspects of nuclear power plants, the incorporation of nuclear power into existing power systems and the environmental impacts of nuclear power production.

    Method of permanent reflex points (PSInSAR) allows to monitor the time evolution of deformations of the Earth's surface with a millimeter precision. For deformation size determination there are used the maps of movement speed or time delay of line set of data that are obtained by evaluating of SAR images. SAR files must be processed using the basic mathematical calculation presented in the work, with an emphasis on the parameters used in geology. Extensive processing of multiple SAR imagery showed that they can be used during monitoring of the field with an accurate identification of the objects on the Earth's surface, which provide a stable reflection of radar rays transmitted from the satellite. These objects are known as permanent reflection points (PS). PS can be geo-referenced, allowing accurate determination of the movement size of the Earth's surface deformation. In this paper an example of using of PSInSAR technology for monitoring of slope movements on the territory of Slovakia is presented. (authors)

    The purpose of the article is to assess the importance of heaps for the land Rosicko-Oslavany coal-field. The heap is an anthropogenic land-form resulting from the accumulation of mineral resources extracted from the land. The heap shows as an unusual geomorfophological shape, which does not belong to the environment at first glance. In many respects the heap acts as a barrier for the other development because the heap may contains a dangerous material or may be unstable because of wrong storage of the material. The heaps in studied region stem from the black coal mining. The totals of 11 heaps were discovered during the field reconnaissance. While the heap Jindrich has a good potential for the other use, the heap Kukla represents a burden for its nearest surroundings. (authors)

    A simple and rapid method of preconcentration, separation and purification of {sup 93}Zr based on the methods of ion exchange chromatography with ion exchangers made by Eichrom Technologies, Inc. was developed. Multi-stage method of {sup 93}Zr separation proved to be suitable for the analysis of samples highly contaminated with radioactive waste in a relatively short time and with a high decontamination factor. The use and effectiveness of the method was successfully tested by analysis of heterogeneous waste from Mochovce nuclear power plant, which belongs to the most complex matrixes of radiochemical analysis.
