For the seismic reflection method conducted on the ground surface, generator and geophone are set on the surface. The observed waveforms are affected by the ground surface and surface layer. Therefore, it is required for discussing physical properties of the deep underground to remove the influence of surface layer, preliminarily. For the surface consistent amplitude correction, properties of the generator and geophone were removed by assuming that the observed waveforms can be expressed by equations of convolution. This is a correction method to obtain records without affected by the surface conditions. In response to analysis and correction of waveforms, wavelet conversion was examined. Using the amplitude patterns after correction, the significant signal region, noise dominant region, and surface wave dominant region would be separated each other. Since the amplitude values after correction of values in the significant signal region have only small variation, a representative value can be given. This can be used for analyzing the surface consistent amplitude correction. Efficiency of the process can be enhanced by considering the change of frequency. 3 refs., 5 figs.

Discussions were given on seismic exploration from the ground surface using the reflection method, for surface consistent amplitude correction from among effects imposed from the ground surface and a surface layer. Amplitude distribution on the reflection wave zone is complex. Therefore, items to be considered in making an analysis are multiple, such as estimation of spherical surface divergence effect and exponential attenuation effect, not only amplitude change through the surface layer. If all of these items are taken into consideration, burden of the work becomes excessive. As a method to solve this problem, utilization of amplitude in initial movement of a diffraction wave may be conceived. Distribution of the amplitude in initial movement of the diffraction wave shows a value relatively close to distribution of the vibration transmitting and receiving points. The reason for this is thought because characteristics of the vibration transmitting and receiving points related with waveline paths in the vicinity of the ground surface have no great difference both on the diffraction waves and on the reflection waves. The lecture described in this paper introduces an attempt of improving the efficiency of the surface consistent amplitude correction by utilizing the analysis of amplitude in initial movement of the diffraction wave. 4 refs., 2 figs.

A method of dipping preservation in organic solvent has been practiced conventionally for storing hydrogen absorbing alloy powder. This method is simple and useful in that alloy powder can be isolated simply from the outside environment. Organic solvent, however, generally involves danger of ignition and explosion and is liable to injure the health of workers, and has problems in the handling and workability. This invention relates to preserving hydrogen absorbing alloy by dipping in aqueous solution added with surfactant. The addition of surfactant to alloy preserving aqueous solution is desirable to be from 1 to 10{sup 4}ppm against the total weight of hydrogen absorbing alloy to be dipped. Any type of the anion system, cation system, non-ionic system, and amphoteric system can be used as the surfactant, but anion system surfactant is desirable because it has excellent surface active effect and can form favorable barriers. 2 figs., 1 tab.

In this research, amplitude-dependency of internal friction was measured on various polycrystalline copper of varying grain size. Furthermore, the measurement data of amplitude-dependency of internal friction were analyzed from the phenomenological standpoint and microplastic strain was calculated as a function of stress. The obtained correlation between microplastic strain and stress corresponded to the stress-strain curve obtainable from normal tensile tests. Hence, comparing with the Hall-Petch relation, the relationship between flow stress and grain size in the microplastiic zone was discussed. The obtained results are summarized as follows: When grains were refined, amplitude dependency of internal friction was inhibited. As a result of the analysis of the data obtained, it was found that the flow stress in the microplastic zone increased following refining of grains. This agreed qualitatively with the macro deformation obtained from normal tensile tests. The grain size dependency of flow stress in the microplastic zone did not follow the normal Hall-Pitch relation, but the plastic strain increased, the dependency moved towards it. 16 refs., 4 figs.

It is intended to develop a system to guarantee quality of microorganism gene resources and store them for extended periods of time, and develop a system to manage the bioinfomatex thereof. The present research works on improving and developing a long-term storage method. This paper reports the present research in Section 2 on developing a method to avoid living organism resources weak against freezing from frost damage as far as possible. Section 3 describes development of a system to put into order about 100,000 ampoules containing ten thousand kinds of microorganism samples. Section 4 states the result showing usefulness of classification by using gene orientation data for gyrB to control quality of microorganism strains. The Institute for Fermentation preserves about 16,000 strains of living organism resources. A database was structured to control biological information on them by using a computer. Section 5 describes the description thereof. Section 6 reports cases of executing the collection, quality control, and storage operations in the living organism resource storage project performed with Kasetsart University and BIOTEC in Thailand. The section also gives a report on inspecting living organism resource storage organizations in the United States. (NEDO)
