    Full Text Available This article deals with the restoration work recently performed on the roof of the Teatro Municipal of Almagro, a beautiful example of the theater architecture of the XIX c. What is proposed here is the retrieval of the daring wooden structural forms of the roof which save very important spans with very small scantling.

    Full Text Available Bagasse memiliki kandungan serat yang cukup besar dan berpotensi digunakan sebagai bahan penguat dalam pembuatan komposit karena sifatnya yang kuat dan ringan. Dalam penelitian tugas akhir ini telah dibuat bahan komposit berpenguat bagasse dengan empat macam ukuran penguat yaitu serat chopped serta partikel berukuran 100 mesh, 140 mesh, dan 200 mesh. Pembuatan komposit menggunakan metode hand lay-up dan fraksi volume penguat divariasi dari 2,5% hingga 15%. Hasil karakterisasi yang telah dilakukan, menunjukkan bahwa kekuatan tarik dan densitas terbaik dimiliki oleh sampel komposit dengan penguat berukuran 200 mesh sebanyak 7,5% volume. Kekuatan tarik sampel tersebut adalah  28,83  MPa dan densitasnya adalah 1,15 gr/cm3. Adapun kekuatan impak terbesar dimiliki oleh sampel komposit dengan 2,5% volume sebesar 0,00271 J/mm2. Dengan demikian sampel komposit yang telah dibuat dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif bahan baku industri menggantikan tiang penyangga (scantlings pada struktur kayu (timber structure sesuai standar AS 1720.1.

    Full Text Available Since the first jack-up was built, jackups have become the most popular type of mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU for offshore exploration and development purposes in shallow water. The most pivotal component of the jack-up unit is the leg, which can directly affect the global performance of the unit. In this paper, an investigation into extending the length of the jack up leg is carried out in order to study the enhancement of the rig capability to drill in deeper water approaching the range of the Semisubmersible Drilling Unit (SSDU (300-1000ft. A study of the performance of a deep-water jack-up unit is performed with different leg lengths. Typical leg scantling dimensions and identical external loads are assigned, and then a detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA model is created in order to simulate the jack-up leg unit’s structural behavior. A Multi-point Constraint (MPC element together with the spring element is used to deal with the boundary conditions. Finally, a comparative analysis for five leg lengths is carried out to illustrate their performance, including the ultimate static strength, and weight.

    Full Text Available Scantling and rolling tolerances have gradually improved. The durability of anticorrosive property of coatings is the critical factor in safeguarding the capital investment locked up in the structure of the vessel. Understanding of reduction in corrosion rate due to protective coatings and the breakdown point of the coatings is a vital part of safe vessel operation. In this paper, surface morphology of paint scheme used in bilges water, is measured by using both optical and AFM (Atomic Force Microscope to prevent corrosion. Both the strategies are utilized to study natural practices of diverse coatings in addition to the impact of their film development and shades. The results demonstrate that undercoat epoxy utilized within bilges water has great resistance towards corrosion in bilges water immersion test. Surface attributes of distinctive layers are noticeably unique in relation to one another in surface morphology. Mild steel coated with epoxy under coat shows better surface characteristics whereas film of primer epoxy coat has many pits as observed by percentage surface imaging of the current bilges paint scheme.
