  1. Structural evolution of the Sarandí del Yí Shear Zone, Uruguay: kinematics, deformation conditions and tectonic significance

    The Sarandí del Yí Shear Zone is a crustal-scale shear zone that separates the Piedra Alta Terrane from the Nico Pérez Terrane and the Dom Feliciano Belt in southern Uruguay. It represents the eastern margin of the Río de la Plata Craton and, consequently, one of the main structural features of the Precambrian basement of Western Gondwana. This shear zone first underwent dextral shearing under upper to middle amphibolite facies conditions, giving rise to the reactivation of pre-existing crustal fabrics in the easternmost Piedra Alta Terrane. Afterwards, pure-shear-dominated sinistral shearing with contemporaneous magmatism took place under lower amphibolite to upper greenschist facies conditions. The mylonites resulting from this event were then locally reactivated by a cataclastic deformation. This evolution points to strain localization under progressively retrograde conditions with time, indicating that the Sarandí del Yí Shear Zone represents an example of a thinning shear zone related to the collisional to post-collisional evolution of the Dom Feliciano Belt that occurred between the Meso- to Neoproterozoic (>600 Ma) and late Ediacaran-lower Cambrian times.

    U-Pb and Hf zircon (sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe -SHRIMP- and laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry -LA-ICP-MS-), Ar/Ar hornblende and muscovite, and Rb-Sr whole rock-muscovite isochron data from the mylonites of the Sarandí del Yí Shear Zone, Uruguay, were obtained in order to assess the tectonothermal evolution of this crustal-scale structure. Integration of these results with available kinematic, structural, and microstructural data of the shear zone as well as with geochronological data from the adjacent blocks allowed to constrain the onset of deformation along the shear zone at 630-625 Ma during the collision of the Nico Pérez Terrane and the Río de la Plata Craton. The shear zone underwent dextral shearing up to 596 Ma under upper to middle amphibolite facies conditions, which was succeeded by sinistral shearing under lower amphibolite to upper greenschist facies conditions until at least 584 Ma. After emplacement of the Cerro Caperuza granite at 570 Ma, the shear zone underwent only cataclastic deformation between the late Ediacaran and the Cambrian. The Sarandí del Yí Shear Zone is thus related to the syncollisional to postcollisional evolution of the amalgamation of the Río de la Plata Craton and the Nico Pérez Terrane. Furthermore, the obtained data reveal that strain partitioning and localization with time, magmatism emplacement, and fluid circulation are key processes affecting the isotopic systems in mylonitic belts, revealing the complexity in assessing the age of deformation of long-lived shear zones.

    This paper analyzes the perception of the librarians in mainland China about the copyright during the development of digital libraries with Hong Kong Special Administrative Region(HK SAR)and Taiwan,China as the reference system,through questionnaire survey of copyright cases of the digital libraries by investigating the digital library builders and librarians of 30 universities from mainland China,HK SAR and Taiwan,China ranked among the top 500 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities(SJTU Version).The report holds that:1)The copyright law shall evolve with the times and be revised from time to time;2)it is imperative to popularize and educate in the copyright law;3)the guidelines for the use of the copyright law of the education industry shall be developed as soon as possible;and 4)the Collective Management of Copyright Regulations shall be enforced as early as possible.

  10. Paleomagnetic and Tectonic studies in Uruguay: a brief synthesis of the last decade

    The paleomagnetic studies in Uruguay have been applied as a complementary tool to geological studies. Paleomagnetic data can be very useful for geodynamic reconstructions, fundamentally for determine the latitudinal tectonic transport, rotations of crustal blocks. This technique has been applied to Paleoproterozoic, Neoproterozoic and Paleozoic units. The geology of the Uruguayan territory is divided into four tectonic units of Uruguay that include a) the Piedra Alta tectonostratigraphic terrane (PATT) and b) Nico Pérez tectonostratigraphic terrane (NPTT), separated by the Sarandí del Yí high-strain zone. Both terranes are well exposed in the Río de La Plata craton (RPC) and have paleoproterozoic ages, the last was reworked in Neoproterozoic times (metacraton). The most thoroughly investigated Neoproterozoic sections are located in the eastern and southeastern regions of Uruguay. The c) Dom Feliciano Belt shows a tectonic evolution from back-arc to foreland basin characterized by fold-and-thrust, thick-skinned belts developed during the Brasiliano/Pan-African orogenic cycle. And finally d) The high metamorphic grade Punta del Este terrane where its most notable feature is their African affinity. There is a significant shortage of geochemical and geochronological data for the existing geological complexity.

  11. Asymetrical structure in coastal river flows and jets

    We apply visual scaling methods to both laboratory experiments and to satellite images of coastal flows as a tool to understand jet/boundary interactions in the environment. We compare the structure of SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) images of coastal jets and vortices and to experiments of jets of different Reynolds numbers and their images searching for common scaling and structural relationship between these two kinds of jets taking advantage of the self-similarity of the mixing processes. In order to investigate the structure of ocean surface detected jets (SAR)and vortices near the coast, we compare wall and boundary effects on the structure of turbulent jets (3D and 2D) which are non-homogeneous. We also use the multifractal analysis of SAR and experimental jets (plumes) images looking for relationship between these two kinds of jets. The SAR images exhibit a large variation of natural features produced by winds, internal waves, the bathymetric distribution, by thermal or solutal convection by rain, etc. These produce variations in the sea surface roughness. The satellite-borne SAR is able to detect oceanic features with a range of scales. The spatial cross-correlation may give an indication of the length over which such features are correlated. We compare the inner and outer jet boundaries detecting a clear asymetry, A similar effect is detected in laboratory experiments at large Reynolds number when a wall is near one of the sides of the jet. The geometrical constrains are seen to affect also the scale to scale energy transfer.

  12. Assessment of the Chemical Characteristics of a Spring Water Source at Ife-Owutu, Ezinihite-Mbaise, Southeastern Nigeria.

    Full Text Available The chemical characteristics of the Giri Giri Nwanjoku Spring in Owutu Ezinihitte-Mbaise, South Eastern Nigeria was investigated to carefully determine some basic geochemical constituents of the water sourcewith a view to identifying those constituents whose concentrations are unacceptably high, compared with the maximum permissible level of a regulatory body and as such determine its wholesome portability for diverse usage. The resultant data conform to the Nigerian Industrial Standard (2007 and the World Health Organization (2006 Standard. The water source is generally neutral with an average pH of 6.85. However, the samples gave an average Calcium and Magnesium ion concentrations of 3.205mg/l and 0.82mg/l respectively and an average hardness (as CaCO3 of 11.375mg/l, indicating that the water is relatively soft. The Stiff and Schoeller plots show at a glance the spatial variations of the chemical constituents of the spring with Tri-oxo-carbonate and Calcium dominating. From the Box and Whisker plot, the greater amount of the cations and anions lie within the second quarter of the box ranging from 0.01meq/l to 0.05meq/l indicating similarity in origin. The Piper trilinear diagram reveals an alkaline earth and weak acid group predominantly the Tri-oxo-carbonate and as suchclassified as Ca-(Mg-Na-HCO3 water facies which indicates portability. The Sodium Absorption Ratio (SARand Percentage Sodium (%Na values of 0.27 and 34.20% respectively show that the water is good for Agricultural use. The Pollution Index (PI value of 0.6 (which is less than the critical value of unity shows thatthe spring water is not polluted. For industrial use, the Saturation Index (SI value of -3.41 reveals that the water may lead to moderate corrosion if not properly treated.

  13. 镧对西葫芦幼苗模拟酸雨胁迫的缓解效应%Alleviative effects of LaCl_3 on simulated acid rain stresses for Cucurbita pepo seedlings

    Using Cucurbita pepo as the experimental material,the alleviative effects of foliar surface spraying for LaCl3(12 mg/L) on seedling growth and three physiological indexes of C.pepo were investigated under some simulated acid rain(SAR) stresses.Results show that the damage effects of SAR on C.pepo seedlings are alleviated by the LaCl3 treatment.The fresh weights of the seedlings treated with LaCl3 solutions of pH 3.5 and pH 3.0 are significantly higher than those of the treatments only with SAR,and are equivalent to 94.7% and 78.6% of the control level(pH 6.5).However,no significant differences are observed between the treatment with other SAR+LaCl3 solution and the treatment only with SAR.The chlorophyll and dissolved protein contents follow the trend of the seedling fresh weight,and the indexes treated with pH 3.0 and pH 3.5 SAR+LaCl3 solutions are higher significantly than that treated only with SAR,but the differences of pH 3.0 are slightly greater than those of pH 3.5.Compared with the control,the dissolved protein content treated with pH 3.5+LaCl3 solution is the highest.The proline content increase consistently with the pH value,and improved by the LaCl3 treatment.The proline contents treated with pH 3.5 and pH 3.0 SAR+LaCl3 solution are higher significantly than that treated only with SAR.Therefore,the alleviative effects of LaCl3 on middle SAR stresses for C.pepo seedling are significant.%以西葫芦为材料,研究模拟酸雨胁迫下适量镧(La)对幼苗生长及叶绿素、可溶性蛋白和脯氨酸含量的影响。结果显示,镧处理对酸雨胁迫有一定的缓解作用。在pH 3.5和3.0时,幼苗鲜重均显著高于模拟酸雨组,并恢复到对照的94.7%和78.6%;但在其他胁迫强度下,镧处理的缓解效应不显著。叶绿素和可溶性蛋白的含量变化与幼苗鲜重类似,在pH 3.0时镧处理的缓解效应最显著;pH 3.5时镧处理的可溶性蛋白含量超过对照。脯氨酸含量呈现持

    advantage (CCA),ratio of yield per unit area (RYPA),sowing area ratio (SAR),and distribution characteristics of watermelon and melon were systematically analyzed.By referring to the agricultural statistic data of 18 counties (cities) in Hainan Province,indexes for each research unit (i.e.,the YCA index,ECA index,SCA index,CRCA index,CCA index,RYPA index,and SAR index) were established and calculated to determine the comparative advantage of watermelon and melon production in Hainan Province.A spatial expression of the research result on a map was conducted by using GIS software.[Result] Seven counties (cities) exhibited comparative advantages in watermelon production,namely,Lingshui,Wanning,Wenchang,Dongfang,Sanya,Ledong,and Changjiang.The Eastern and Southern Hainan Provinces had CCAs,and the Western and Northern Hainan Provinces could be reserved for future development.For melon production,four counties (cities) exhibited comparative advantages,namely,Ledong,Lingshui,Sanya,and Dongfang.The Southern Hainan Province had CCA,whereas the Western Hainan Province could be reserved for later development.[Conclusion] The result has showed that establishing watermelon and melon as dominant agricultural products is necessary for the future development of the industry and for the formulation of a layout of regions with advantages,where key support and construction should be provided preferentially with the aim to raise the yield,quality,and market competitiveness of products.

  16. Effect of simulated different types of acid rain on physiological characteristics in Carya cathayensis%模拟不同类型酸雨胁迫对山核桃生理特征的影响

    pH values and three types of acid rain were experimentally determined.The experimental results showed that:under SAR,plant height,basal diameter of Carya cathayensis in pH 5.6 was higher than the other two gradients.In the NAR treatment,the growth performance showed as pH 5.6 < pH 2.5 <pH 4.0.In the MAR treatment,the stress on plant height was significantly higher than SAR and NAR.Under the same pH value,the stress effects on chlorophyll showed as NAR > MAR > SAR,and there are significant differences in chlorophyll content among different types of acid rain but not among different pH values in the same acid rain treatment.Three types of acid rain showed inhibitive effect on photosynthesis characteristics of Carya cathayensis,the net photosynthetic rate under pH 2.5 was less than pH 5.6.The apparent quantum efficiency (AQE),maximum net photosynthetic rate (Pnmax),light saturation point (LSP) was lower in MAR treatment than NAR.The results showed that NAR and MAR showed more complex influence on plant physiological characteristics of Carya cathayensis than SAR,the plant height and chlorophyll content in mixed acid rain treatment was greater than sulfuric acid rain.

Dessa forma, acreditase que o uso dessas espécies pode acelerar o processo de restauração ecológica por meio da maximização das interações biológicas.La familia Melastomataceae Juss. es la sexta en importancia en el Cerrado, y son comunes en la vegetación secundaria, cuyas estrategias de vida incluyen adaptaciones como la gran producción de semilla, la eficiente dispersión de propágulos, las altas tasas de germinación y el crecimiento que puede proporcionar la activación de los procesos ecológicos que intervienen en la regeneración natural de los hábitats pertur-bados. El objetivo de este trabajo fue ca-racterizar las especies de Melastomataceae dentro de un área de vegetación secundaria y evaluar su capacidad potencial para uso en la restauración ecológica de la vegetación riparia. Este estudio se llevó a cabo en Embrapa Cerrados, en el margen derecho del arroyo Sarandí, Distrito Federal, Brasil, en un área de una hectárea, donde fueron instalados las parcelas y transectos para la evaluación de los parámetros: características botánicas, ecológicas y reproductivas, síndromes de polinización y dispersión de semillas, reproducción vegetativa, la riqueza de especies, abundancia, cobertura y los estadios fenológicos de floración y fructificación. A partir del análisis de estos parámetros se establecen los criterios para evaluar el uso potencial de las especies en la restauración ecológica. Entre las 14 especies de la familia Melastomataceae registradas tuvieron mayor abundancia y cobertura, respectivamente:Miconia chamissoisNaud. (35.42% y 42.53%,Ossaea congestiflora(Naud. Cong.
