Resumo em inglês In the present study, new N-aryl and N-alkylarylcyclic imides were synthesized and their antibacterial properties against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were evaluated by using the diffusion method. All compounds were obtained in good yield (54 - 95%) and characterized by spectral data (¹H-NMR, MS, IR) and elemental analysis (CHN). The biological results indicated that some compounds exert significative antibacterial effects, confirming previous studies on biological activities of cyclic imides.

In this review, emphasis will be given to the chemical and biological aspects of several sub-classes of this family, incluing maleimides, succinimides, glutarimides, naphtalimides, etc. Additionally, will be focused the contribution of our research group in this field.

Resumo em português Malassezia furfur (Pityrosporum orbiculare) é um fungo lipofílico, que está associado a pitiríase versicolor, foliculite, dermatite seborréica e atópica, fungemia e infecções sistêmicas. O tratamento é feito com soluções antimicóticas ou derivados imidazólicos, particularmente, o cetoconazol. Dentro das perspectivas de avaliação de novas alternativas para a terapêutica das infecções micóticas, determinou-se, nesse estudo, a atividade antifúngica de co (mais) mpostos imídicos. As imidas 3,4-dicloro-N-fenil-maleimida (6,3 µg/ml), 3,4-dicloro-N-benzil-maleimida (25 µg/ml) e 3,4dicloro-N-fenil-propil-maleimida (20 µg/ml) foram os compostos que apresentaram melhor atividade inibitória contra as cepas de M. furfur. Resumo em inglês Malassezia furfur (Pityrosporum orbiculare) is a lipophilic microrganism and it has also been associated with pityriasis versicolor, folliculitis, seborrheic and atopic dermatitis, fungemia and systemic infections. The treatment comprehends antimicotics or imidazol derivatives solutions, specially cetoconazol. With purpose of evaluating new alternatives to the therapeutics of mycosis infections, the antifungical activity of cyclic imides was determinated in the present st (mais) udy. The imides 3,4-cichloro-N-phenylmaleimide (6,3 µg/ml), 3,4dichloro-N-benzyl-maleimide (25 µg/mL) and 3,4dichloro-N-phenyl-propyl-maleimide (25 µg/mL) were the compounds which produced the best activities of inhibition against strains of M. furfur.

Resumo em português Diante da problemática da resistência microbiana as pesquisas apontam para o uso de novos antibióticos que sejam eficazes ante os patógenos emergentes. Este trabalho objetiva testar frente a bactérias gram-positivas (Staphylococcus aureus), bactérias gram-negativas (Escherichia coli e Pseudomonas aeruginosa) e fungos leveduriformes (Candida albicans), a atividade antimicrobiana e a concentração inibitória mínima (CIM) de fitoconstituintes de Ocotea duckei Vattim (mais) o, do lapachol, seus derivados semi-sintéticos, alfa-lapachona, beta-nor-lapachona, beta-lapachona, alfa-nor-lapachona, beta-3-iodo-lapachona e alfa-3-iodo-lapachona, assim como 07 derivados nitrogenados obtidos a partir do lapachol por semi-síntese e de imidas cíclicas similares ao alcalóide filantimida. Os resultados obtidos estimulam o aprofundamento dos estudos para algumas dessas substâncias a exemplo do lapachol e seus análogos que demonstraram atividade antimicrobiana, de modo que os produtos que se apresentaram ativos para S. aureus, foram lapachol e o extrato etanólico de Ocotea duckei, para E. coli foi a iangambina e para a Candida albicans foram as imidas. As demais substâncias não apresentaram atividade antimicrobiana para as cepas testadas. Resumo em inglês Regarding the problem of microbial resistance, the researches point to the use of new antibiotic which can be active against the emergent pathogens. This work aims to test the activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli e Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and leveduriform fungi (Candida albicans), and also the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the constituent of Ocotea duckei Vattimo, lapachol and its synthetic d (mais) erivatives alpha-lapachone, beta-nor-lapachone, beta-lapachone, alpha-nor-lapachone, beta-3-iodin-lapachone and alpha-3-iodin-lapachone, as well as seven nitrogenated derivatives of lapachol obtained through semi synthesis. The achieved results stimulate the deepening of the studies for some of theses substances such as lapachol and its analogous which demonstrated antimicrobial activity. The substances which were active against S. aureus, were lapachol and the ethanolic extract of Ocotea duckei Vattimo, against Escherichia coli iangambin and against C. albicans the imides. The other substances did not show any activity against the tested bacteria.

Resumo em inglês The solution fluorescence of N-alkyl-2,3-naphthalimides (1-4) in polar protic and aprotic solvents was compared to the emission from solid samples resulting from the imide complexation with b-cyclodextrin or adsorption on the surface of microcrystalline cellulose. Solid samples of the inclusion complex 2,3-naphthalimides/b-cyclodextrin show maximum for fluorescence emission significantly different to the observed in me (mais) thanolic solution. Beside this, a clear effect on the alkyl chain length could be observed for these samples which is probably due to differences in probe location inside the cyclodextrin cavity. The constancy for fluorescence quantum yield and fluorescence lifetime for the imides 1 - 4 adsorbed on microcrystalline cellulose suggests that, independently of the polarity of the solvent used for sample preparation, the probe is preferentially located on the cellulose surface. An increase of fluorescence quantum yield and fluorescence lifetime for solid samples, when compared to the values obtained in solution for the different solvents employed in this study (acetonitrile, methanol and water), is fully in accordance with a decrease of the probe mobility due to inclusion in b-cyclodextrin or to adsorption on cellulose.
