Síntese hidrotermal de sodalita básica a partir de um rejeito de caulim termicamente ativado/ Hydrothermal synthesis of basic sodalite from a thermically activated kaolin waste

Paz, Simone Patrícia Aranha da; Angélica, Rômulo Simões; Neves, Roberto de Freitas
2010-01-01

Resumo em inglês Basic sodalite was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method using kaolin waste as source of Aluminum and Silicon. This waste is mainly composed by kaolinite and is produced in large amount by kaolin processing industries for paper coating from the Amazon region. Initially, the waste has been calcined at 700 ºC for 2 h and then reacted with the following solutions: Na2CO3 and mixture of Na2CO3 + NaOH to 150 ºC with autogenous pressure for 24 h. The raw materials a (mais) nd transformed materials were characterized by XRD, FTIR and SEM. In both studied media, well-crystallized, basic sodalite was the only phase synthesized, while in the literature usually a mixture of zeolites is obtained.

Figueira, B. A. M.; Angélica, R. S.; Scheller, T.
2008-06-01

Resumo em inglês Manganese oxyhydroxide (g - MnOOH) of the manganite type has been synthesized by a simple route with K-birnessite prepared by the sol-gel method. The hydrothermal treatment of the lamellar birnessite type structure facilitates the formation of tunnel structures where the size of the tunnels depends on the synthesis conditions (pH, temperature and time). The evidence of manganite formation under the synthesis conditions were made by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry, differential thermal analysis and infrared spectroscopy.

Utilização de zeólitas sintetizadas a partir de xisto retortado na remoção de arsênio em águas contaminadas/ Use of zeolites synthesized from oil shale ash for arsenic removal from polluted water

Fernandes-Machado, Nádia Regina Camargo; Miotto-Bigatão, Denise Maria Malachini
2007-10-01

Resumo em inglês The solid by-product of the oil shale processing (PETROBRAS - Brazil) was used as raw material to synthesize zeolites A and faujasite. Alkaline fusion followed by hydrothermal treatment was the synthesis procedure used, and five different starting material compositions were obtained. The more crystalline zeolite-type materials synthesized, the pretreated oil shale ash and commercial zeolites were used as adsorbents in the purification of pollutant solutions with arsenic. (mais) The zeolite-type material composed of a mixture of zeolite A (42.6%) and faujasite (52.9%) presented an ion exchange capacity comparable to the pure zeolites A and faujasite, much better than the pretreated ash.

Utilização de rejeito de caulim da Amazônia na síntese da zeólita A/ The use of kaolin wastes from the Amazon region on the synthesis of zeolite A

Maia, A. A. B.; Saldanha, E.; Angélica, R. S.; Souza, C. A. G.; Neves, R. F.
2007-09-01

Resumo em inglês Zeolite A and Hydroxysodalite were synthesized after kaolin wastes from kaolin processing industries for paper coating, located in the Amazon region. The waste is mainly composed by kaolinite, which has the same SiO2/Al2O3 ratio requested for those two zeolites. Thereby, synthesis process may occur in two steps: 1) the kaolin was submitted to thermal treatment, through calcination process at 700 °C for 2 h, in order to obtain the metakaolinite phase. The metakaolinite ob (mais) tained reacted with NaOH solution, in hydrothermal conditions, using autoclaves, at the following temperatures: 80, 110 and 150 °C for 24 h. The starting materials were identified and characterized by means of X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis and synthesis products were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, Thermal Methods (DTA-DTG) and Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). A mixture of Zeolite A and Hydroxysodalite was obtained through this process at 150°C. In the temperature of 110 ºC there was only the Zeolite A formation. Nevertheless, in the lowest synthesis temperature (80°C) there was no crystalline material formation for the established conditions.

Luvison, Caroline; Mignoni, Marcelo L.; Pergher, Sibele B. C.
2009-01-01

Resumo em inglês A new kind of material, denominated MCM-71, was synthesized and characterized by several complementary techniques: X Ray Diffractometry, textural analysis by nitrogen adsorption, Scanning electronic microscopy and infrared spectroscopy. MCM-71 zeolite was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal synthesis in the presence of triethanolamine. Mordenite phase as impurity was not detected, otherwise quartz was observed. The MCM-71 sample obtained presented a BET surface area (mais) of 20 m²/g in the as synthesized form and of 85 m²/g in protonic form. By SEM was observed crystals with rectangular shape with average size of 2 x 0,2 x 0,05 µm and this crystals were agglomerated in spherical particles with average diameter between 14 and 24 µm.
