Galáxias de comunicação: o legado teórico de Luhmann/ Galaxies of communication: Luhmann's theoretical legacy

Nafarrete, Javier Torres
2000-01-01

Resumo em inglês An exposition is made of the conceptual foundations of Niklas Luhmann's contribution to social theory, according to which society should be understood as a net of operations and events constituted and maintained through communication. This, on its turn, should be understood as a calculus, with its specific rules and formal scheme.

MOND: uma alternativa à mecânica newtoniana/ MOND: an alternative to Newtonian mechanics

Velten, H.E.S.
2008-09-01

Resumo em inglês The purpose of the present work is to describe the more important aspects and results of one of the most popular alternatives to the Newtonian theory of motion: the MOND theory. In order to explain one of the success of this theory I study the curve rotation of galaxies with Newtonian theory and MOND theory. The results obtained are confronted against the observational data from galaxy UGC4329 from Cancer cluster.

Fractals and the Distribution of Galaxies

Ribeiro, Marcelo B.; Miguelote, Alexandre Y.
1998-06-01

Resumo em inglês This paper presents a review of the fractal approach for describing the large scale distribution of galaxies. We start by presenting a brief, but general, introduction to fractals, which emphasizes their empirical side and applications rather than their mathematical side. Then we discuss the standard correlation function analysis of galaxy catalogues and many observational facts that brought increasing doubts about the reliability of this method, paying special attention (mais) to the standard analysis implicit assumption of an eventual homogeneity of the distribution of galaxies. Some new statistical concepts for analysing this distribution is presented, and without the implicit assumption of homogeneity they bring support to the hypothesis that the distribution of galaxies does form a fractal system. The Pietronero-Wertz's single fractal (hierarchical) model is presented and discussed, together with the implications of this new approach for understanding galaxy clustering.
