Resumen en inglés The paper deals with the relation between photojournalism and the modernization of Brazilian's press over the middle of the 20th Century. In this process, known as “reforms”, Río de Janeiro's newspapers suffer deep changes in language, such as the adaptation to organizational norms, writing and digging techniques used by the US press, and innovations in language inspired by the modernist movement. This article traces a short description of the reforms in thre (mas) e newspapers (Diário Carioca, Última Hora, and Jornal do Brasil) and discusses the process of changes in journalistic routines and the deontological codes of the profession, seeking clues in order to understand why the formation la the new generation of photographic reporters isn't related with, as happened with text journalists, specific formation such as training done in the newspapers, creation of university courses and the requirement of university diploma.

Diversidad en transmisión con selección escalonada de código espacio temporal/ TRANSMIT DIVERSITY THROUGH SPACE-TIME STEP SELECTION

Mavares T, Dimas; Torres, Rafael P; Torres, Víctor L
2009-06-01

Resumen en inglés In this paper, an adaptive transmision technique for multiple transmitter antennas systems is proposed. The proposed technique, refered as space-time step selection, uses predetermined time intervals to transmit with different numbers of antennas, using space-time codes when more than one transmitter antenna is selected. The time intervals using for transmission are found offline through simulations, as a function of the maximum Doppler frequency. Simulation results show (mas) that the proposed technique achieves a gain of around 2dB w.r.t. one single antenna selection system, and around 1dB w.r.t. a two antennas selection system using Alamouti coding. Computation complexity is limited to a channel ranking at the receiver and feedback information requeriments are very low.

ELIMINACIÓN DE “INCONSISTENCIAS” OBSERVADAS EN EL DISEÑO DE SECCIONES T DE HORMIGÓN ESTRUCTURAL SOMETIDAS A FLEXIÓN ÚLTIMA/ ELIMINATION OF "INCONSISTENCIES" OBSERVED IN THE DESIGN OF T SECTIONS OF STRUCTURAL CONCRETE SUBMITTED TO ULTIMATE FLEXURE

GIL, EDWIN; CASTRILLÓN, ELKIN
2007-03-01

Resumen en inglés For the determination of the flexure capacity of concrete sections different algorithms according to the section form are set out. Naaman [5] observes an "inconsistency" in the design of T sections, proposes an adjustment to the expressions given in previous specifications, that are adopted in some of the recent design codes, determining variations in the results, such as bending moments significantly smaller than ones obtained with previous specifications. These results (mas) have created restlessness among other authors. In this paper the "inconsistency" observed by Naaman [5] is analyzed and a general adimensional analysis is proposed to eliminates the "observed inconsistency" and find the correct solution of the problem within the established specifications.

El gen receptor a dopamina D4 y su asociación con los trastornos mentales/ DRD4 polymorphysm and the association with mental disorders

Aguirre-Samudio, Ana Julia; Nicolini, Humberto
2005-02-01

Resumen en inglés The dopamine D4 receptor (DRD4) is the most important gene in psychiatric genetics since its involvement in the physiology of behavior, pharmacology response and psychopathology. DRD4's sequence gene present some polymorphism such as in the exon 3 constituted from 2 to 10 copies of repetitive sequences of 48 base pair (bp), from class variable number tandem repeats (VNTR). An additional genetic variant in the exon 1 presents polymorphisms to 12 bp VNTR, and the variation (mas) -521 C by T of the promoter region. The -521 T alíele can reduce the efficiency of the gene expression in comparison with the C alíele. The DRD4 gene codes a protein transmembranal of 7 domains, distributed in front cortex, striatum, hypothalamus and hippocampus. This review discusses the biological significance of DRD4 gene and its perspective with emphasis on the impact of association studies in some illness mental and behavioral traits. The DRD4 polymorphism has been studied in association with illnesses like schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive with tics, bipolar manic-depressive disorder, in addition behavioral traits such as novelty seeking. The DRD4 gene is a genetic marker that could play a role in etiology of different mental illness, and behavioral traits, and its polymorphism can be used in association studies, epigenetic and pharmacogenomic analysis for help to understand the genetics basis of both mental disorders and traits.

2004-02-01

Resumen en inglés The Nijmegen Breakage Syndrome (NBS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder associated with microcephaly, immunodeficiency, chromosome instability and cancer proneness. The mutated gene that results in NBS codes for nibrin (Nbs1/p95), a DNA repair protein that is functionally linked to ATM, the kinase protein product of the gene responsible of ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T). We report the clinical, cytogenetic and molecular characterization of a second case of NBS in Chile d (mas) etected by us. The patient is a 7 years old Chilean boy from a consanguineous marriage, with microcephaly, immunodeficiency and acute non lymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). As NBS shares chromosomal and cellular features with A-T, the cytogenetic studies of this patient also included 3 A-T patients. Our results showed that the frequency of spontaneous and X rays induced chromosomal aberrations in NBS are higher than in A-T cells. DNA analysis revealed that the patient is homozygous for the Slavic mutation 657del5 in the NBS1 gene. This finding and the absence of nibrin in patient's cells, confirmed the clinical diagnosis of NBS in our patient (Rev Méd Chile 2004; 132: 211-18)
