Resumen en español Se colectó un total de 21 muestras de carbón pertenecientes a la Formación Los Cuervos en Villa Páez, estado Táchira, Venezuela, con la finalidad de establecer variaciones verticales en sus parámetros geoquímicos. Las muestras fueron sometidas a los análisis inmediatos (humedad, materia volátil, carbono fijo y cenizas), elementales (C, H, N, S) y análisis petrográfico. Se encontró una correlación estadísticamente significativa (coeficiente de correlación de (mas) Spearman > 0,80) entre la concentración de azufre y cenizas en los carbones, con el espesor de los mantos y su ubicación en cada litofacies: en aquéllas en las que los carbones son esporádicos, los mantos son delgados, ricos en azufre y cenizas. Por el contrario, en las litofacies donde los carbones presentan una gran abundancia, éstos son de gran espesor, limpios (S Resumen en inglés A total of 21 coal samples, belonging to Los Cuervos Formation, were taken in Villa Páez, Táchira State, Venezuela, with the aim of establishing vertical variations in their geochemical parameters. The samples were subject to immediate (moisture, volatile matter, fixed carbon and ash), elemental (C, H, N, S) and petrographic analysis. It was found a significant correlation between sulfur and ash content in coals, with width of beds, and their location in each lithofacie (mas) s (Spearman correlation coefficient > 0.80): those in which coals are sporadic, the beds are thin, high in sulfur and ash.
