Prospección y evaluación de especies con potencial de follaje para la elaboración de bouquets/ Prospecting and evaluation of promising foliage species to include in bouquets

Resumen en español El presente trabajo incluyó labores de documentación, prospección, establecimiento, caracterización y evaluación de especies con potencial de follaje para uso en la industria de flor cortada. La fase de documentación se realizó en el Herbario Nacional de Colombia en donde se identificaron 88 especies; los departamentos de Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca y Meta son las zonas con mayor número de especies referenciadas. En la fase de prospección se colectar (mas) on 105 especies, de las cuales se logró establecer en invernadero con éxito el 81%. Con las especies establecidas se realizaron tres evaluaciones para determinar el comportamiento de los tallos en cuarto frío, la vida en florero y el potencial de mercado. Las diferentes evaluaciones señalaron que Dianthus caryophyllus (var. Espiga), Coprosma kikiicu, Eucalipto sp. (var. Silver dolar), Euonymus japonicus L., Hedera madeirensis, Hedera helix (verde), Ligustrum lucidum, Fotinia serrulata, Protea grandiceps, Pyracantha coccinea y Rosmarinus oficcinalis son especies con potencial de follaje para su uso en bouquets por presentar tallos largos, erectos, firmes, forma atractiva, follaje denso, colores vistosos, brillo, consistencia en las hojas, buen comportamiento en cuarto frío, duración en florero y aceptación comercial. Resumen en inglés The present research was focused on documentation, prospecting, establishment, and evaluation phases of promising foliage species for their use in the cut flower industry. For such survey, a documentation phase were carried out in the National Herbarium of Colombia which allowed to identify 88 foliage potentiality species having Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Valle del Cauca and Meta departments as the zones with major potential species number. In the prospecting phase, 105 spe (mas) cies were collected, from which 81% was successfully established in the greenhouse. Three evaluations were made in the established species, where cold room behaviour and flower vase-life were evaluated in each one. The evaluations confirmed that Dianthus caryophyllus (var. Espiga), Coprosma kikiicu, Eucalipto sp. (var. Silver Dolar), Euonymus japonicus L, Hedera madeirensis, Hedera helix (green), Ligustrum lucidum, Fotinia serrulata, Protea grandiceps, Pyracantha coccinea and Rosmarinus oficcinali presented foliage potential for bouquet manufacture having such characteristics as long, straight, and firm stems, attractive shape, dense foliage, flashy colours, brightness and consistency of leaves, cold room behaviour, flower vase shelf-life and commercial approval.

Evaluación del perfil tubular renal mediante electroforesis en gel de poliacrilamida/ Urinary protein profile and SDS-PAGE tubular pattern evaluation

Resumen en español La electroforesis en gel de poliacrilamida con dodecil sulfato de sodio (SDS-PAGE) es un método de alta resolución para la tipificación de los perfiles proteicos urinarios (PPU), pero no ha sido rutinariamente adoptado en el laboratorio clínico. Se compararon los PPU mediante uroproteinograma electroforético (URO) y SDS-PAGE, ambos coloreados con tinción argéntica y la medición por turbidimetría de las proteínas de bajo peso molecular: a1-microglobulina (A1m) y (mas) b2-microglobulina (B2m). El objetivo del estudio fue establecer la sensibilidad de la coloración argéntica en SDS-PAGE para poder utilizarla principalmente en la definición de proteinuria tubular. Se procesaron 105 muestras de orina de 24 h de pacientes adultos que ingresaron al laboratorio con pedido de clearance de creatinina. El 28% de los URO fisiológicos fueron redefinidos por SDS-PAGE en glomerular (1), mixto (5) y tubular (8). La relación entre la presencia de dos bandas, una de A1m y otra de menor peso molecular (PM) en SDS-PAGE, con la cuantificación de B2m y A1m por encima del valor normal resultó extremadamente significativa (p Resumen en inglés Early studies demostrated the clinical potential of SDS-PAGE to evaluate the proteinuria profile, although it has not been widely adopted in the routine laboratory. SDS-PAGE and conventional zone electrophoresis (ZE), both stained with the silver stain procedure were compared with the automated immunoturbidimetry results of a-1microglobulin and b-2microglobulin. One hundred and five unconcentrated 24 hr collection urines sent to our Laboratory for creatinine clearance det (mas) ermination were used. A 72% of the physiologic profile rendered identical interpretations. ZE showed only an albumin band for all samples according to SDS-PAGE in 86.5%, but presented an additional A1m band in 13.5%, whose quantitations were below 12 mg/L. SDS-PAGE classified 14 samples as glomerular, tubular or mixed pattern instead of physiologic (proteinuria values close to 0.2 g/24 hr). Resumen en inglés Background: Nonsyndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate (NSCLP) is a common craniofacial developmental defect. Association studies have suggested that a clefting locus is located on chromosome 6p at or near two possible loci, Factor 13A (FI3A) in the region 6p 25-24 and HLA at 6p 21.3. Aim. To test the hypothesis on the possible presence of a major gene on chromosome 6p associated with NSCLP. Patients and methods: We carried out an association study on a sample of (mas) unrelated NSCLP patients from multiplex (Mx) and simplex (Sx) families, of their unaffected relatives and in control individuals. DNA was analyzed with three PCR markers close to the putative NSCLP locus, dinucleotide repeats at loci D6S89, D6S109 and D6S105. PCR products were resolved by PAGE and visualized by silver staining. Statistical analysis was performed by means of c2 log ratio. Results: Significant differences were observed when comparing the allele frequency distribution of D6S89 in patients with NSCLP and controls and in patients with NSCLP-Mx and controls. No significant differences were observed for patients with NSCLP-Sx. D6S109 and D6S105 showed no significant differences in any of the comparisons. Conclusions: Our results support the hypothesis that a NSCLP locus maps on 6p23 very close to D6S89. Results for D6S109 and D6S105 do not show a clear association. Differences observed between NSCLP-MX and Sx families seem to represent different etiologic entities. The results of the present study, plus those already published for candidate loci, TGFA and MSX1, support the hypothesis that several interacting major genes participate in the etiology of NSCLP
