Resumen en español La determinación de las propiedades geométricas y ópticas de las hojas de la vegetación es un proceso tedioso y que requiere de equipo especializado. El desarrollo de un método alternativo rápido y de bajo costo permite usar esta información en aplicaciones rutinarias de la transferencia radiativa en la vegetación. En este trabajo se presenta un método simple para la estimación de las propiedades geométricas y ópticas de la vegetación, usando el concepto de a (mas) trayente de la dinámica del crecimiento en espacios espectrales transformados. Con los atrayentes estimados, reflectancias en el infinito, es posible estimar el albedo foliar estandarizando el ángulo cenital de iluminación a 57° y, con este valor, los coeficientes de extinción y propiedades angulares de las hojas. La metodología propuesta sirve de base para desarrollar una estrategia de medición de un solo tiempo, equivalente a mediciones multi-temporales. Resumen en inglés Determining geometric and optical properties of vegetation leaves is a tedious process that requires specialized equipment. The development of an alternative, fast, and low-cost alternative would facilitate the use of this information in routine applications of radiative transfer in vegetation. This paper presents a simple method for estimating vegetation geometric and optical properties, using the concept of attractor of growth dynamics in transformed spectral spaces. Wi (mas) th the estimated attractors, infinite reflectances, it is possible to estimate leaf albedo by standardizing zenith angle of illumination at 57°, and with this value, the coefficients of extinction and angular properties of the leaves. The methodology proposed serves as the basis for developing a one-time measurement strategy, equivalent to multi-temporal measurements.

Resumen en inglés To evaluate dose rates and daily doses (DDE) at Valdivia in Southern Chile, ultraviolet irradiances recorded every 15 min from 1998 to 2000 with a high resolution spectroradiometer were weighted with an erythemal action spectrum. Exposure times to get one MED (210 J/m2) in Summer are 10, 12, 18 and 24 min for skin types I trough IV respectively. DDE estimations included in NASA Web products overestimate measurements by 16% on average in Summer, with an absolute uncertaint (mas) y of 980 J/m2 at the 95% level. Observed dose rates for clear days are in fair agreement with the numerical output from a numerical model, suggesting that acute episodes can be predicted if total ozone can be forecasted and the population is instructed on corrections for cloud effects (Rev Méd Chile 2002; 130: 17-25)

EFECTO DE LA ALTURA EN LA RADIACIÓN SOLAR ULTRAVIOLETA EN ARICA NORTE DE CHILE

Resumen en español En este trabajo se presentan resultados obtenidos al calcular mediante el modelo TUV (Tropospherical Ultraviolet Visible Model) las dosis eritémicas y los índices de radiación solar ultravioleta que se reciben a nivel del mar en Arica (Lat.: 18º 49' S; Long. 70º 19' W) y zonas del altiplano. Entre los resultados más destacados obtenidos podemos mencionar: un aumento promedio en las dosis eritémicas de un 5.6%/km, lo cual muestra un buen acuerdo con datos experiment (mas) ales, en los cálculos correspondientes a los índices de radiación solar ultravioleta encontramos que en ausencia de nubosidad el modelo teórico predice valores superiores a 20 ( en una escala dónde valores de índice ultravioleta superiores a 14 son considerados extremos). Estos valores calculados por el modelo se observan sobre los 1900 m de altitud y durante gran parte del año (para días de cielo claro). El tema es de especial interés debido al creciente número de personas que se desplazan continuamente entre el nivel del mar y altitudes cercanas a los 5000 m de altura, esto se debe a trabajos relacionados con proyectos de la gran minería del cobre, como también a labores relativas al turismo. En ambos casos estas personas reciben importantes incrementos en los niveles de radiación solar ultravioleta Resumen en inglés In this work, using transfer radiative models, we present results obtained when calculating the levels of solar ultraviolet radiation that reach Arica at sea level, as well as altitudes of 4.500 m above sea level. (Lat.: 18º 49' S; Long. 70º 19' W). The level of solar ultraviolet radiation that reaches the earth varies due to multiple factors, such as the geographical location (latitude), the thickness of the ozone layer present above, the cloud cover and the altitude a (mas) bove sea level. Locations at both sea level and at 4500 m above sea level can be found in northern Chile. These locations are specially adequate for the study of the effects of altitude in the increase of solar ultraviolet radiation. This topic is relevant because a great number of people, having jobs related to copper mining and tourism, who often travel moving from places that are located at sea level to settings that are situated at 5000 m above sea level, are exposed to significantly increased solar ultraviolet radiation
