Castro-Ramos, J; Vázquez-Montiel, S; Hernández-de-la-Cruz, J; García-Lievanos, O; Calleja-Arriaga, W
2006-12-01

Resumen en inglés Nowadays diffractive optics in the fabrication of imaging optical systems is having a boom due to many advantages over the image quality and the use of less optical elements. Diffractive Optical Elements (DOE's) are showing a huge growth in the optical industry and it goes in increasing day to day. Transnational companies like CANON, KODAK and NYON refer to great quantity of projects for building imaging equipment, digital cameras; liquid crystal projectors among others b (mas) y means of using DOE's, already their results have been appearing in a lot of published papers and technical reports [1-3]. Due to above written, a review on fundamental concepts in which the diffractive optics is based is explained. The methods employed to design optical systems by using diffractive optical elements are check over, the most common techniques to produce such elements are also reviewed. Finally some applications based on DOE's are explored in this paper.

La cuestión 31 de la Óptica o el programa de las fuerzas en la filosofía mecánica/ The question 31 of Optics or the program of forces in the mechanical philosophy

Vitery, Favio Ernesto Cala
2006-06-01

Resumen en inglés In its final form, Newton's Optics closes its third book with 31 queries. The last one - the most extensive - is intended, among other things, to picture a universe submited to several forces. In this way, the success achieved by introducing a force acting at distance between material bodies such as universal gravitation was projected to be extended to the general set of phenomena delimited by natural philosophy. It is argued that the difficulty of this enterprise is just (mas) ified by the premature condition shared by the new experimental or Baconian sciences that, unlike Principia's dynamics, would resist a rapid mathematical formalism following the Newtonian style. This is: the mediation of a force acting at distance as the key for the general synthesis of natural phenomena. A glance at Newton's query 31 allows us to follow him in his intention to investigate and to install an unifying program of the possible forces of nature.

MODELAMIENTO TÉRMICO Y VIBRATORIO DE UNA CÁPSULA PARA SENSORES DE FIBRA ÓPTICA ADAPTABLES A MEDICIONES EN SISTEMAS ELECTRICOS DE POTENCIA/ THERMAL AND VIBRATION MODELING OF A CAPSULE FOR FIBER OPTICS SENSORS ADAPTIVE TO MEASURING ON ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEMS

AGUIAR, MAURICIO; GÓMEZ, JORGE; TORRES, PEDRO
2009-06-01

Resumen en inglés In this work is presented a thermal and vibration modeling that allows the design of high-thermal conductivity, mechanical isolating capsules for inserting Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) based temperature sensors for applications on electric power systems (EPS). One of the most relevant variables in EPS component operation is temperature, because its real time monitoring allows predicting the state of the system and generating predictive maintenance actions that guarantee qua (mas) lity and continuity in its service. The modeling of the dielectric capsule is divided in two fundamental parts: i) a mechanical analysis using the finite element method for establishing the capsule response to vibrations in the regime reported in literature for generators and power transformers; ii) a thermal analysis using an analytical model that allows to establish the sensor’s response speed due to temperature changes. The results that were found show a great potential on the material proposed for the fabrication of the capsule, which is not reported in this kind of applications.

La unificación de luz, electricidad y magnetismo: la "síntesis electromagnética" de Maxwell/ The unification of light, electricity and magnetism: Maxwell's electromagnetic synthesis

Beléndez, Augusto
2008-01-01

Resumen en inglés In the early nineteenth century, light, electricity and magnetism were considered as three independent phenomena. While interest in optics was justified by its application to the manufacture of optical instruments, electrical and magnetic phenomena could be interesting for scientists but they had no practical applications. In this work, and after a brief description of the status of electricity, magnetism and optics in the early nineteenth century, the unification of elec (mas) tricity and magnetism is presented with figures like Oersted, Ampère and Faraday, concluding with "Maxwell's synthesis" of electricity, magnetism and light, which was as relevant as "the Newtonian synthesis" of the heaven physics and earth physics. This "Maxwell's synthesis" is one of the greatest achievements in physics, because it did not only unify electrical and magnetic phenomena, but allowed to develop the whole theory of electromagnetic waves, including light. From Maxwell, another hitherto independent field of physics, optics, was to a certain extent included in electromagnetism.

Novedoso separador con diodo ultrabrillante/ New retractor with ultrabilliant diode

Bernstein, M.
2008-06-01

Resumen en inglés After many studies and tests a very innovative, strong and comfortable retractor is introduced; it is considered ideal for mammary implants surgery and it is also very useful in difficult access surgeries. This new design produces less tissue damage than ordinary flat retractors due to its smaller contact surface; besides it allows a better view of the surgery field (as it permits the observation of any bleeding that traditional flat separators would hide). Its modern ill (mas) umination is strong and precise; it offers above 25% more light than fiber optics without any external light source what makes this retractor very easy to handle and to transport.

Metales pesados en suelo urbano como un indicador de la calidad ambiental: ciudad de Chihuahua, México/ Heavy metals in urban land as an indicator of environmental quality: city of Chihuahua, México

Alcalá, Jorge; Sosa, Manuel; Moreno, Myriam; Rodríguez, Juan C.; Quintana, César; Terrazas, César; Rivero, Oved
2009-12-01

Resumen en inglés Growth of cities is putting pressure on soil quality research and its association as a factor of pollution, because its condition leads up effects to human health, mainly by the concentration of heavy metals. In order to determine the concentrations of Nickel (Ni), Cobalt (Co), Vanadium (V) and Lead (Pb) in the city of Chihuahua, soil samples were taken at sites where 75 trees of five species are growing. Samplings were conducted in accordance with the land uses and Comme (mas) rcial and Services, Mixed Industry, Heavy Industry, Middle upper class Residential areas and Low class Residential areas during autumn, spring and summer seasons. In order to determine the concentrations of metals, the technique described as ICP (spectrometer optics inductively coupled plasma) was employed. With a model adjusted through Minitab® the effects of the species, type of land use and season interactions were tested with respect to heavy metal concentration in soils. The significant interactions found were between season-type of land use with Ni, Co, V and Pb in addition to the season-species with respect to Vanadium. It is emphasized that the site in relation to the Heavy Industry area Pb concentration was of 1714,70 mg/kg surpassing the NOM-147-SEMARNAT/SSA1- 2004 which establishes a limit of 800 mg/kg for this land use. This type of information is considered necessary for urban planning of the city, and for its impact in public health and the mitigation of environmental pollution.

Resumen en inglés An important link in the advances made by the cataract surgery is the industrial development that has taken place in the last few years with the introduction of new intraocular lens models such as Rayner 620 H, the improvement of surgical implements, systems of bimanual aspiration and irrigation and custom-made scalpel to place the intraocular lens injector. IOL Rayner 620 H meant a step forward for phacoemulsification and the control of postoperative posterior capsule op (mas) acity due to the peculiar design of its optics and haptics that allows a safe and easy implantation using tiny incision. A prospective descriptive study was conducted in 28 eyes diagnosed with cataract, which underwent phacoemulsification with Rayner 620 H intraocular lens implantation performed at the Ocular Microsurgery Center of "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology from June 2006 to February 2007. The majority of patients was included in the over 60 years age group. All the cases showed a significant increase of visual acuity with and without correction from the preoperative to the postoperative phases. The keratometric cylinder also increased but slightly. Loss of endothelial cells was low from preoperative to postoperative phase. There was no complication during or after the surgery. We assessed the effectiveness of IOL Rayner 620 H as satisfactory because of the higher visual acuity of the patient, low induced astigmatism, improved visual field, minimal loss of endothelial cells and lack of complications and postoperative dazzling in the patients.

Resumen en inglés Objective: To conform a frame of reference for the organization of the public health teaching in university degrees in Spain, in agreement with the directives of the European Space for Higher Education. Methods Specific professional competencies in public health have been extracted from the Libros blancos published by the ANECA (National Agency of Quality Evaluation) for the degrees on medicine, pharmacy, nursing, human nutrition and dietetics, optics and optometry, veter (mas) inary, social work, occupational relations, teacher training, and environmental sciences. Following the framework proposed by the Working Group on professional competencies in public health in Spain, we have selected those competences that enable future professionals to participate in the development of the public health from their field of activity. We have also identified and correlated the specific competences of each degree with the corresponding activities and functions. Results All the studied degrees have competences in public health functions. The majority has also defined activities in community health analysis, design and implementation of health interventions and programmes, promotion of social participation and citizen's control of their own health. Conclusions There is academic space for the multidisciplinary development of the public health in Spain beyond the health professions. The identification of the specific competencies of each degree related with activities on public health reveal what are the contents to be in included in each syllabus.

MUJER, BELLEZA Y PSICOP PSICOPATOLOGATOLOGÍA/ WOMEN, BEAUTY AND PSYCHOPATHOLOGY

LUNA MONTAÑO, IRIS
2001-12-01

Resumen en inglés The beauty is universal part of the human experience. It has been shown that its perception brins pleasure, while increasing probability of mating. Sensitivity to beauty has its philogenetically determined brain structures, and also sociocultural aspects. Recent studies show that lack of physical attractiveness and distortion of body image are risk factors for psychopathology. Women?s aesthetic attributes have been assesed from different optics, but popularization the bea (mas) uty began with feminine magazines, audiovisual media and cyberspace. From them on, unattainable beauty models have been created and woman live under the tyranny of «beauty», in search of «body perfection». This paper poses that when beauty is overvalued and distorted, it may be related to psychopathology.

Resumen en inglés Given that the body has been historically crossed by different devices, practices, knowledge, models and concepts, and also given that such process has taken place in the context of different institutions, this article delves into this question in the case of Argentinean educational institutions. This analysis is focused on those practices, knowledge and effects that can be found in the (re)configuration of male and female bodies, centered around physical education. Study (mas) ing coeducational physical education classes has revealed the markedly asymmetrical and unequal power relations serve to construct a specific form of masculinity and a specific form of femininity.

Jean-Paul Marat: Médico, científico y revolucionario/ Jean-Paul Marat: Physician, scientist and revolutionary

CERDA L, JAIME
2010-01-01

Resumen en inglés Physician, scientist and revolutionary are the biographical aspects that had better summarize the life of Jean-Paul Marat (1743-1793). Due to the role that he played during the French Revolution, his work as a physician and scientist, prior to the events of l789, was forgotten. Marat made important contributions in the area of optics and electricity reflected in numerous publications, as well as translating Newton's Opticks (1787). Well known for his radical and aggressiv (mas) e ideas, his political vocation led him to embrace the revolutionary cause after the events of the Bastille. His figure was not indifferent to his contemporaries; although considered a hero by the poorest citizens, aristocrats and bourgeois considered him a cruel extremist. During the last years of his life, he suffered a cutaneous disease, the diagnosis of which is still a matter of controversy. Proposed diagnoses include eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, scabies and dermatitis herpetica, among others. Marat was assassinated by Charlotte Corday in 1793, becoming a martyr for some segments of the society that worshiped his memory. He was a man with a complex and curious personality whose figure and legacy are still a matter of discussion

Aulesa, C.; Ruiz, G.; Durán, J.; Galimany, R.
2002-06-01

Resumen en inglés 40 specimens from banal ambulatory surgery, have been proceded with a basic coagulation panel, composed by the parameters PT (prothrombin time), APTT (activated partial thromboplastin time), fibrinogen (derived), Fibrinogen Von Claus, TT (thrombin time), RT (reptilase time) and ATIII (antithrombin III). Afterwards, we hemolyze the samples "in vitro" by the aplication of ultrasonic and performance the basic panel in the hemolyze samples again. The determination of the hemo (mas) lysis grade, has been measured by the free haemoglobin (mg/dl) of the plasma. The study of the results after the aplication of the parametric appeared Student test, both results normal and hemolyze, concluded that de PT measured by optics methods present significances diferences over 150 mg/dl of Hb. And other parameter that present significance diferences, has been the derived fibrinogen that reduced his concentration significantly over 75 mg Hb/dl of hemolysis. The Thrombine time increase also significantly with a low hemolyze grade. In conclusion, we analyze diferences ways to solve the problem of the hemolyze samples by the use of the mecanics methods of measure of the coagulation time in front of the routinary optical methods and we have established with theese experiences, the rules of processing the hemolyze samples, that have been sended, from a periferical bleeding Centres to our Central Laboratory.
