Resumen en español Este artículo describe la topología de las redes eléctricas existentes en diferentes partes del mundo, incluidas las redes colombianas, y su desempeño para ser usadas como canales de telecomunicaciones. Se analiza la función de transferencia para redes de baja tensión y se considera adicionalmente la radiación originada por la tecnología PLC (Power Line Communications). Como la radiación originada por PLC no puede evitarse completamente, se describirá el efecto (mas) de la interferencia electromagnética con comunicaciones de radio frecuencia. Se propone el modelo del canal de PLC y al final se presentan las conclusiones. Resumen en inglés This article describes the topology of the existent electric nets in different parts of the world, included the Colombian nets, and there performance when used as telecommunications channels. The transfer function is analyzed for low tension nets and radiation originated by PLC (Power Line Communications) technology is also considered. Since the radiation originated by PLC cannot be avoided completely the effect electromagnetic interference will be described with radio frequency communications. Modeling of the PLC channel is proposed and at the end conclusions are presented.

Ruido Barkhausen y emisión magneto acústica para la caracterización de materiales ferromagnéticos/ Barkhausen noise and magneto acoustic emission in ferromagnetic materials

Resumen en español Se aplicaron las técnicas del Ruido Barkhausen (RB) y la Emisión Magneto-Acústica (EMA) a un material ferromagnético con el objetivo de correlacionar las señales obtenidas con los cambios microestructurales. En la primera etapa del trabajo se desarrolló un Sistema Integral de Medición (SIM) para las señales de RB y EMA. Se construyeron diferentes dispositivos tales como un yugo magnético, una fuente de corriente de baja frecuencia, un amplificador y filtro de fre (mas) cuencias y varios sensores de RB, a efectos de aplicar un campo magnético controlado y medir las señales de RB y EMA. Las primeras mediciones se realizaron sobre muestras de acero AISI 1020 con bajo contenido en carbono, inicialmente idénticas, que se habían preparado previamente mediante diferentes tratamientos termomecánicos. Una de las muestras se reservó como patrón; las otras fueron sometidas respectivamente a decarburización superficial, crecimiento de grano y deformación plástica. Se estudió también el efecto de los cambios microestructurales debidos al daño por radiación sobre las señales de RB y EMA. Para ellos se prepararon otras dos muestras de menor tamaño que las anteriores, a fin de que pudieran ser insertadas en el dispositivo de irradiación. La muestra irradiada fue sometida a un flujo de baja dosis de neutrones rápidos (3.6 10(15) n/cm²) y la otra se conservó como patrón. Los resultados fueron relevantes en todos los casos. En particular, el valor cuadrático medio (RMS) de las señales RB y EMA, resultó ser un parámetro cuya variación siguió adecuadamente los cambios microestrucurales. Los cambios en las señales magnéticas y la aparición de picos en las mismas se deben a diferentes mecanismos de anclaje de las paredes de los dominios magnéticos. El presente artículo conduce a recomendar el SIM desarrollado, como una valiosa herramienta de Ensayos No Destructivos (END) para materiales ferromagnéticos, siempre que el sistema se calibren previamente con una muestra patrón. Resumen en inglés The techniques of Barkhausen Noise (BN) and Magneto Acoustic Emission (MAE) were applied to a ferromagnetic material with the objective of correlating the obtained signals with the micro structural changes. The first step was the development of an Integral Measurement System (IMS) for the BN and MAE signals. Different devices as magnetic yoke, current source, amplifiers, frequency filters and different magnetic sensors were constructed. The first measurements were develop (mas) ed on an AISI 1020 steel, with low carbon content, submitted to different thermo mechanical treatments. One of the test probe was used as standard, the others were subjected to surface decarburation, grain growth and plastic deformation. The effects of radiation damage were also studied with BN and MAE. Other two smaller test pieces were prepared. The irradiated specimen was subject to a low flow of fast neutrons (3.6 10(15) n/cm²) and the other, was used as standard. In all cases the result were relevant. In particular, the RMS value of the BN and MAE signals resulted as an appropriated parameter whose variation followed adequately the microstuctural changes. The changes and the peaks in the signals are owed to the anchors of the magnetic domain walls. The present paper lead to recommend this IMS as a valuable tool in No Destructive Testting (NDT) for ferromagnetic materials, all times the system be previously calibrated with a standard probe.

Variaciones espaciales y temporales del fitoplancton en un lago subtropical de Argentina/ Temporal and spatial variations of the phytoplankton in a subtropical lake of Argentina/ Variações espaciais e temporais do fitoplâncton num lago subtropical da Argentina

Resumen en portugués Foi estudada a composição, biomassa e diversidade das espécies de fitoplâncton num lago subtropical (27°29'S; 58°45'O) desde fevereiro de 1995 até março de 1996. Uma ou duas coletas mensais foram feitas em dois locais: uma na área central e outra na região litoral do lago. As contagens foram realizadas segundo o método de Utermöhl (1958). A biomassa do fitoplâncton variou entre 2,38 e 45,59 mm³.m², com valor médio de 12,11 mm³.m-2 (± 10,52 mm³.m-2). A d (mas) ensidade da população oscilou entre 0,3 x 10(6) e 4,7 x 10(6) ind.cm-2. Cyanophyta predominou ao longo de todo o ano, contribuindo com entre 25% e 83% para a biomassa total. Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii, Aphanizomenon sp. e Microcystis aeruginosa foram as espécies melhor representadas . Chlorophyla, segundo grupo em importância, apresentou-se entre 8% a 50%, sendo Botryococcus braunii a espécie dominante. Bacillariophyceae, Xanthophyceae, Euglenophyceae e Cryptophyceae não superaram 20% da biomassa total. O aporte de Chrysophyceae e Dinophyceae à biomasa total não ultrapassou 5%. O conteúdo de clorofila a variou entre 0,7 e 8 µg.L-1, refletindo a variação anual da biomassa do fitoplâncton. A diversidade baseada na densidade do fitoplâncton variou entre 0,34 e 3,69 bits.ind-1 e a diversidade baseada na biomassa oscilou entre 1,04 e 2,92 bits.ind-1, com variação similar nas diferentes profundidades do lago. A mais baixa biomassa e a mais alta diversidade foram sempre registradas na região litoral. Os estrategistas C, com alta relação AS/V, dominaram em densidade (Monoraphidium contortum, M. tortile, Chlorella vulgaris e outros pequenos flagelados de Chlorophyta), enquanto os estrategistas S, com baixa relação AS/V, tais como Microcystis aeruginosa e Botryococcus braunii, predominaram em biovolume durante a maior parte do ano. Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii e Aphanizomenon sp. dominaram em densidade e biomassa quando a temperatura foi superior a 20°C e a radiação solar, a 20 MJ.m-2. Os estrategistas R (Aulacoseira italica e Gymnodinium sp.) dominaram quando a coluna d'água apresentou grande instabilidade. One or two samples were taken monthly in the limnetic and the littoral area. Cell counts were done by the Utermöhl method (1958). Phytoplankton biomass varied among 2.38 and 45.59 mm³.m-2 with a mean value of 12.11 (±10.52) mm³.m-2. The population density oscillated among 0.3x10(6) and 4.7x10(6) ind.cm-2. Cyanophyta (mas) was the dominant group all the year contributing among 25% and 83% of the total biomass. Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii, Aphanizomenon sp. and Microcystis aeruginosa were the dominant species. The Chlorophyta, second group in importance, contributed among 8% and 50% being Botryococcus braunii the dominant species. Chlorophyll a content ranged between 0.7 and 8 µg.L-1 reflecting the annual variation of phytoplankton biomass. Phytoplankton density diversity varied among 0.34 and 3.69 bits.ind-1. Biomass diversity varied among 1.04 and 2.92 bits.µm³, with a similar variation in the depths of the lake. The lowest biomass and the highest diversity were always found in the littoral zone. CStrategists, with a high SA/V ratios prevailed in density (Monoraphidium contortum, M. tortile, Chlorella vulgaris and other small flagellates of Chlorophyta) while SStrategists (with a low SA/V ratios) such as Microcystis aeruginosa and Botryococcus braunii prevailed during the greater part of the year. Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii and Aphanizomenon sp. were dominant in density and biomass when the temperatures were superior to 20°C and the solar radiation surpassed 20 MJ.m-2. Anatomía del tejido fotosintético de diez taxa de Opuntia establecidos en el secano árido mediterráneo de Chile/ Anatomy of the photosynthetic tissue in ten taxa of Opuntia established to the mediterranean arid zone of Chile

Resumen en español Se evaluó el efecto de la exposición de cladodios a la radiación en la anatomía del tejido fotosintético de 10 taxa de Opuntia, (plantas con metabolismo ácido crasuláceo, CAM) establecidos en al secano árido de la IV Región de Chile. A nivel del tejido epidérmico se evaluó el grosor de la cutícula, la densidad de estomas y las dimensiones de células oclusivas. En el tejido fotosintetico, se evaluo las dimensiones celulares con el objeto de estimar la superfic (mas) ie de paredes celulares expuestas al intercambio gaseoso por unidad de tejido fotosintético, relación conocida como Ames/A. Los resultados señalan grandes dimensiones celulares y baja densidad estomática, lo que determina un número reducido de estomas por unidad de superficie en relación a especies de otras vías metabólicas (C3 y C4). La comparación entre taxones, muestra diferencias significativas en la relación de áreas Ames/A, parámetro estrechamente relacionado a la capacidad fotosintética. Estas características anatómicas y sus modificaciones en combinación con el metabolismo CAM, contribuyen a su adaptación a condiciones de pluviometría limitada Resumen en inglés The anatomy of the photosynthetic tissue and the effect of cladode exposure to radiation was studied in ten taxa of Opuntia, plants with crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM), established in the dry lands of the IV Region of Chile. At the epidermic level the cuticle thickness, stomatal frequency, and dimension of guard cells were evaluated. In the photosynthetic tissue, cell dimensions were determined in order to estimate the area of cell walls exposed to gaseous exchange pe (mas) r unit of photosynthetic tissue (A mes/ A). The results indicate large cell dimensions and low stomata frequency which results in a reduced number of stomata per unit area in relation to species with other metabolic pathways (C3 and C4), The comparison between taxa shows significant differences in the relation of Ames/A areas, a parameter closely associated to the photosynthetic capacity and water use efficiency. The above anatomic characteristics of these plants in combination with pathway CAM contribute to their adaptation to limited rainfall conditions
