Resumen en portugués A partir do extracto etanílico das inflorescancias da especie Piper hispidum Kunth (Piperaceae) foram isolados tras flavonoides: 5-hidroxi-7-metoxiflavanona, 5-hidroxi-4,7-dimetoxiflavanona y 2,4,6-trimetoxidihidrochalcona. Das flavanonas isoladas foram sintetizados os derivados acetilados 5-acetoxi-7-metoxiflavanona y 5-acetoxi-4,7-dimetoxiflavanona. As estruturas foram elucidadas empregando técnicas espectrocópicas e por comparasau com dados da literatura. Os compost (mas) os naturais e seus derivados foram submetidos a bioensaáos de letalidade frente a Artemia salina. O flavonoide 5-hidroxi-7-metoxiflavanona presenta uma major atividad toxica frente aos microcrustaceos CL50 1,8 [1]g/ml. Resumen en español A partir del extracto etanílico de las inflorescencias de la especie Piper hispidum Kunth (Piperaceae) fueron aislados tres flavonoides: 5-hidroxi-7-metoxiflavanona, 5-hidroxi-4,7-dimetoxiflavanona y 2,4,6-trimetoxidihidrochalcona. De las flavanonas aisladas fueron obtenidos los derivados acetilados: 5-acetoxi- 7-metoxiflavanona y 5-acetoxi-4,7- dimetoxiflavanona. Las estructuras fueron elucidadas empleando técnicas espectrocópicas y por comparacióncon datos de litera (mas) tura. Los compuestos naturales y sus derivados fueron sometidos al bioensayo de letalidad frente a Artemia salina. El flavonoide 5-hidroxi-7-metoxiflavanona presenta la mayor actividad tóxica frente a los microcrustáceos CL50 1.8 [1]g/ml. Resumen en inglés From the ethanolic extract of the inflorescences of Piper hispidum Kunth (Piperaceae) were isolated three flavonoids 5-hydroxy-7-methoxyflavanone, 5-hydroxy-4,7-dimethoxyflavanone and 2,4,6-trimethoxydihydrochalcone. The acetylated derivatives 5-acetoxy- 7-methoxyflavanone and 5-acetoxy- 4,7- dimethoxyflavanone were synthesized from the isolated pure flavanones. Characterization was mainly achieved by spectroscopic techniques and compared with literature data. Natural com (mas) pounds and derivatives were subjected to brine shrimp lethality bioassay. The most toxic compound was the flavonoid 5-hydroxy- 7-methoxyflavanone with a LC50 1,8 [1]g/ml.

Estudio Cinético de la Descomposición Térmica de Tres Derivados del Pirano (C5H6O)/ Kinetic Study of the Thermal Decomposition of Three Derived from the Pyran (C5H6O)

Resumen en español El artículo presenta el estudio cinético de descomposición térmica de tres compuestos derivados del pirano que no han sido reportados en la literatura. Estos compuestos son ampliamente utilizados en farmacología y en la obtención de importantes productos a nivel tecnológico e industrial. Los compuestos 2,6-dietoxitetrahidro-2H-pirano; 2-etoxi-6-propoxitetrahidro-2H-pirano y 2-etoxi-6-butoxi-tetrahidro-2H-pirano se escogieron variando el sustituyente ubicado en la p (mas) osición 6 del núcleo. Cada experimento cinético fue realizado a cinco temperaturas con intervalos de 10 grados en un rango entre 333 a 373 K, utilizando un sistema de reacción a microescala. Se obtuvieron los productos 2-etoxi-6-hidroxi-tetrahidro-2H-pirano y etileno, propeno, o buteno para cada caso, fueron identificados mediante la técnica de cromatografía de gases acoplada a masas. Las reacciones resultaron ser unimoleculares homogéneas y de primer orden. Teniendo en cuenta los parámetros cinéticos y termodinámicos obtenidos, se puede decir que la reacción es compatible con un estado de transición cíclico de seis miembros, concertado y semipolar Resumen en inglés The article presents a kinetic study of the thermal decomposition of three compounds derived from pyran that have not been reported in the literature. These compounds are widely used in pharmacology to obtain important products of technological and industrial interest. The compound (2,6-dietoxitetrahydro-2H-pyran; 2-etoxi-6-propoxytetrahydro-2H-pyran and 2-etoxi-6-butoxytetra-hydro-2H-pyran) were chosen by varying the substituent located in the 6 position of the nucleus. (mas) Each experiment was done at five temperature with intervals of 10 degrees in a range between 333 and 373 K, using a microscale reaction system. The products obtained, 2-etoxy-6-hydroxy-tetrahydro-2H-pyran and ethylene, propene, or butene for each case, were identified using gas chromatography connected to masses. The reactions turned out to be unimolecular, homogeneous and of first order. Considering the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters obtained, it is possible to say that the reaction is compatible with a concerted six membered semi-polar cyclic transition state

Estatinas, una nueva opcion terapéutica en diversos tipos de enfermedades/ Statines, a new therapeutical option for many diseases

Resumen en español Las estatinas al inhibir la enzima 3-hidroxi-3-metilglutaril-coenzima A reductasa, reducen la producción de colesterol y además, previenen la formación de compuestos isoprenoides no esteroidales, que actúan como acoplamientos lipídicos para la modificación postraslacional de varias proteínas, involucradas en diferentes procesos celulares. El bloqueo del proceso de isoprenilación dado por el tratamiento con estatinas también tiene efectos biológicos sobre funcion (mas) es celulares que van más allá de la disminución en la síntesis de colesterol: estos son los llamados efectos pleiotrópicos que se relacionan principlamente con la función vascular, incluyendo la mejora de la hipertrofia y la insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva y la hipertrofia vascular, tienen propiedades antiinflamatorias, inhiben la proliferación de células cancerígenas, son inmunomoduladores, mejoran la disfunción endotelial y reducen los daños de la isquemia-reperfusión. Esta revisión describe los efectos pleiotrópicos de las estatinas y los mecanismos moleculares a través de los cuales ejercen diferentes funciones biológicas. Resumen en inglés Statins inhibiting the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaril- coenzyme A reductase decrease the cholesterol production and besides, to prevent the non-steroidal isoprenoids compounds acting like lipid couplings for post-translation modification of some proteins involved in different cellular processes. The isoprenilation process blockade given by statins treatment hass too biological effects on cellular functions beyond the decrease in cholesterol synthesis: these are the so (mas) called pleiotropic effects mainly related to vascular function, including an improvement of hypertrophy and its congestive cardiac insufficiency and vascular hypertrophy and have anti-inflammatory properties, inhibiting the cancerous cells proliferation, immunomodulation, improving the endothelial dysfunction and reducing the ischemia-reperfusion damages. This review describes the pleiotropic effects of statins as well as the molecular mechanisms used to exert different biological functions.
