Amonoideos y bivalvos del Sinemuriano Superior en un nuevo afloramiento de la Formación Huayacocotla, Hidalgo, México, algunas consideraciones paleoambientales/ Upper Sinemurian ammonoidea and bivalva in a new outcrop of the Huayacocotla Formation, Hidalgo, Mexico: some paleoenvironmental considerations

Arenas Islas, Diana; Esquivel Macías, Carlos; Flores-Castro, Kinardo
2009-01-01

Resumen en inglés To the east Hidalgo State, Mexico, the Tenango de Doria County is the main Mountain Valley with outcrops of the Huayacocotla Formation (Upper Sinemurian). A new outcrop with great abundance of ammonoids and bivalves is here reported. Specimens were identified to the generic and specific level, including analysis of their functional morphology, hábitat spectra, index of relative abundance and measures, with emphasis on paleoecological inferences. Sedimentary petrology was (mas) also described. Species found in this outcrop include: Paltechioceras tardecrecens, P. rothpletzi, P. burckhardti, P. harbledownense, Paltechioceras sp, Orthechioceras jamesdanae, O. incaguasiense, O. pauper, Plesechioceras cihuacoatle, Arnioceras ceratitoides, aff Metophioceras sp., Neocrassina sp, Plagiostoma sp, Bositra sp, ?Parainoceramus sp, Posodonotis semiplicata, one species of Cryptodonta and 3 species not identified. Neocrassina and an unnamed species represent infaunal elements and suggest existence of soft bottom sea. The environmental preference analysis is based on morpho-functional information from fossil material, and suggests the main facies to correspond to inner and proximal platform. The faunal composition of the outcrop was broadly dominated by ammonoids. This observation is reinforced by diversity index. These proxys and the index hábitat with the measured structure are indicative for a median neritic platform too. The fossil assemblages include some characteristics that recall Jurassic communities previously described, however it possibly represent a new type of Jurassic community. Posodonotis semiplicata is consistent with low oxygen bottom waters, interpretation reinforced by presence of pyrite nodules. The taphonomic evidence of the outcrop reveals the low energy distal neritic platform, alternated with sedimentary soft flows from proximal neritic and medial platform.

Gallego, J.L; Franco, L.M; Riascos, H; Vargas-Hernández, C; Ospina, R
2009-12-01

I D/I G) aumenta. Resumen en inglés In the present study a-CNx amorphous carbon nitride thin films were deposited using a pyrolytic graphite target with a purity of 5N on silicon (100) substrate in a nitrogen gas atmosphere using pulsed laser deposition technique. We used a Nd:YAG laser with laser fluence of 10 J/cm². The films were characterized by μ-Raman spectroscopy and Energy Dispersive X-ray ED X microanalysis. The Raman spectra showed the characteristic peaks of amorphous carbon D (1354 cm-1) a (mas) nd G (1555 cm-1), corresponding to sp² bonding. The peak intensity ratio (I D/I G) from Raman spectra increases as substrate temperature and nitrogen gas pressure increase. The (EDX) analysis confirmed the presence of C, N elements. The plume plasma produced by laser was characterized by optical emission spectroscopy. From the emission spectra, carbon and nitrogen atomic species and CN molecule were indentified.

Inertial currents in the southern Gulf of Mexico/ Corrientes inerciales en el sur del Golfo de México

Expósito-Díaz, G; Salas-de León, DA; Monreal-Gómez, MA; Salas-Monreal, D; Vázquez-Gutiérrez, F
2009-09-01

Resumen en inglés Current velocity data recorded from 1 March to 17 June 1997 at four stations in the Bay of Campeche, southern Gulf of Mexico, were used to describe inertial currents. Data were low-pass filtered using a Lanczos filter, and transformed to the frequency domain with the classical Fast Fourier Transform, rotary spectra, and the Morlet Wavelet Method. The strongest total currents developed in the eastern part of the bay, with a dominant east-west component. The predominant dir (mas) ection of the total current was parallel to the coast. The amplitude of tidal currents was small when compared with subtidal currents. During the sampling period several episodes of inertial currents were observed, some of which corresponded to those predicted by theory. Inertial currents in the lower layer were linked through large phase lags, revealing the baroclinic mode of the inertial currents. Spectral energy was concentrated in the low-frequency bands, corresponding to inertial and subinertial periods. The dominance of spectral energy at low frequencies reveals the influence of mesoscale cyclonic and small-scale anticyclonic eddies in the northeastern Bay of Campeche. These eddies are believed to be the origin of the inertial currents, since the inertial currents observed were unrelated to wind forcing.

The sonority, the audible energy fraction, the stability of the sound level and the spectra of the pecentage constant bandwidth of noise sources characteristic of geomorphologic regions in the northeastern zone of Cuba were studied aimed at describing their acoustic backgrounds and to contribute to the microlocalization of human settlements of the projects under way. The method used was based on the determinations of summary measures at the stable sound levels and on the (mas) spectra of set points linked to different geomorphologic regions. The lowest levels of sonority and audibility corresponded to the least anthropical landscapes, which were the most forested and depressed by the relief, found in the high forestal zones of topographic complexity. It was observed a linear dependency between the parameters of the environment, in terms of height and metereology, and those of the sound of acoustic background. The sound spectra of the families of sources oscillated, but their trend proved to be esentially of 2 types: spectrally flat (white sound: fluvial waters, litorals and forests) and spectrally exponential (rose sound: high forests and pasturelands, anthropic noise). Energy decreased with the frequency. The physical parameters of the sound contrasted selective and significantly in 8 studied geomorphologic regions in the northeastern zone of Cuba. The urban, industrial and transportation sources marked acoustic singularities of the territory.

Palinología del Holoceno del Canal del Medio, estuario de Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina/ Palynology from the Holocene of Canal del Medio, Bahía Blanca estuary, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Borel, C. Marcela; Gómez, Eduardo A.
2006-06-01

Resumen en inglés Holocene palynological samples from the Canal del Medio (38° 49' S; 62° 17' W), Bahía Blanca inner estuary, south of Buenos Aires province, contain pollen, spores, remains of algae (Dinoflagellata, Chlorophyta and Cyanophyta) and acritarchs. The pollen spectra are dominated by Chenopodiineae and Poaceae, along with Asteraceae and Ephedra. The dinophycean algae are represented by cysts of estuarine dinoflagellates of the order Gonyaulacales (Operculodinium centrocarpum (mas) (Deflandre and Cookson) Wall, Spiniferites bulloideus (Deflandre and Cookson) Sarjeant, S. sp. cf. S. pachydermus (Rossignol) Reid, S. bentorii (Rossignol) Wall and Dale and S. ramosus (Ehrenberg) Loeblich and Loeblich). The chlorophycean algae consist of cenobia of Pediastrum boryanum (Turpin) Meneghini and colonies of Botryococcus braunii Kützing. The assemblages also contain sheets of Gloeotrichia sp. The acritarchs are represented by Micrhystridium sp., Cymatiosphaera sp., Halodinium minus Bujak, Acritarch sp. F, Acritarch sp. G and Acritarch sp. H. Three palynological zones are distinguished in the sequence. The lowermost zone, dated in 3,500 14C yr B.P., represents an ancient tidal plain in close relation with a channel of turbid water and variable energy. The intermediate zone suggests better conditions for the development of autotrophic dinoflagellates, in a restricted estuarine environment. For the top zone, the low frequencies of dinocysts and acritarchs indicate similar conditions to those currently present in the inner Bahía Blanca estuary. Along the profile, the pollen reflects the development in the surrounding areas of halophytic communities, with the presence of xerophytic woodland. The characteristics of these deposits indicate that ca. 3,500 14C yr B.P., the mean sea level was located at a similar position than the current one.

Desarrollo de un Adsorbente Basado en Taninos de Corteza de Pinus pinaster/ Development of an Adsorbent Based on Tannins from Pinus pinaster Bark

Vázquez, G.; González-Álvarez, J.; Freire, S.; Antorrena, G.
2005-01-01

In the first stage (pre-crosslinking), tannins react with formaldehyde. In the second stage (granulation), the partially gelled tannin-formaldehyde solution is dispersed into a mixture of decalin and a non-ionic surfactant. The influence of operation conditions of both stages on the yield and characteristics of the particles has been analysed. The particle (mas) s, slightly porous and nearly spherical, have been used to adsorb cadmium from aqueous solutions. X-ray energy dispersion spectra obtained after adsorption have confirmed the presence of cadmium on particle surface and, therefore, their capacity for metal cation adsorption
