Estudio del polimorfismo isoenzimático en el género Leucaena/ Study of isoenzymatic polymorphism in the Leucaena genus

Wencomo, Hilda B; Díaz, Maykelis; Álvarez, Alba; Mora, Leonor; Coto, Orlando
2008-09-01

Resumen en inglés This work was carried out with the objective of performing the izoenzymatic characterization of 23 accessions of Leucaena spp., which included five species of the Leucaena genus (L. leucocephala, L. lanceolata, L. diversifolia, L. macrophylla and L. esculenta), in addition to the commercial cultivars L. leucocephala cv. Cunningham, L. leucocephala cv. Perú, L. leucocephala cv. Ipil-Ipil, and L. leucocephala cv. CNIA-250. For the development of the trial, the isoenzyme an (mas) alyses of peroxidases, α- and β- esterases, malato dehydrogenases, and alcohol dehydrogenases were made. The data obtained were subject to multivariate statistical analysis. The isoenzymatic systems (esterases and peroxidases) turned out to be polymorphic in the sample studied, mainly esterases, and the analysis of genetic diversity allowed to differentiate L. leucocephala with higher clarity than the rest of the species studied, although there was no gain regarding discrimination within the species.

Actividad biológica del suelo en dos bosques de Nothofagus del centro sur de Chile/ Biological activity of soils in two Nothofagus forest in south-central Chile

Rivas, Yessica; Godoy, Roberto; Valenzuela, Eduardo; Leiva, Javier; Oyarzún, Carlos; Alvear, Marysol
2007-06-01

Differences are expected in the biological activity of the soil between a secondary forest of Nothofagus obliqua of the Intermediate Depression in Chile, influenced by the activity agricultural-livestock production and microcl (mas) imatic favorable conditions for the decomposition of the SOM, when comparing it with a pristine forest of Nothofagus betuloides of the Andes Mountain, with microclimate extreme. This study contrasts carbon mineralization (min-C) rates, nitrogen mineralization (min-N) rate and soil enzymatic activities (dehydrogenases and acid phosphatase) and the correlation between soil temperatures in both temperate forests. Measurements were carried out every two months during a seasonal cycle. MANOVA showed that levels of min-C, min-N, and enzymatic activities differed significantly between forests (Wilk's Lambda, F 4; 55 = 20.2, p = 0.000) values for the N. betuloides forest being significantly lower. There was also significant variation between months during the study period (Wilk's Lambda, F 76; 148 = 118.9, p = 0.000), the seasonal patterns of variation, with respect to soil temperature were different between the two ecosystems. The low values observed in the N. betuloides forest probably: reflect the rigorous climatic conditions, and low litter inputs dominated by species of low decomposability. However, soil temperatures were not a good predictor of temporal variation of mineralization or enzymatic activity

ACTUALIZACIÓN EN EL TRATAMIENTO AGUDO Y CRÓNICO DE LA ENFERMEDAD ORINA OLOR A JARABE DE ARCE DE PRESENTACIÓN NEONATAL/ UPDATE IN ACUTE TREATMENT AND FOLLOW UP OF NEONATAL MAPLE SYRUP URINE DISEASE

Cornejo E, Verónica; Raimann B, Erna
2005-12-01

Diversos estudios han demostrado que existe una estrecha correlación entre la edad de diagnóstico, control metabólico a largo plazo y el coeficiente intelectual Resumen en inglés Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) is caused by a deficiency of the enzyme complex of alpha-cetoacids dehydrogenases with the consequent accumulation of valine, isoleucine and leucine (VIL) and their metabolites associated with neurotoxicity. It is an autosomal recessive inherited disease and the incidence varies between 1:290.000 and 1:200 newborns. The most frequent presentation is during the neonatal period beginning at the 5th day of life with food refusal, somnolence a (mas) nd coma. If not diagnosed and treated, the patient dies. The treatment when the patient decompensate consists in intensive nutritional therapy to prevent catabolism and reduce leucine levels below 200 µM/L. During the chronic period a VIL- restricted diet is prescribed, supplementing with formula free of VIL, L-valine, L-isoleucine and thiamine. Different studies have demonstrated a strict correlation between age at diagnosis, long-term metabolic control and intellectual quotient
