Método de Dimensionamiento de la Federación Internacional del Hormigón para el Refuerzo de Vigas de Hormigón Armado con Fibras de Carbono/ Design Method Proposed by the International Federation for Structural Concrete for Beams Strengthened with Carbon Fibers

Resumen en español En el presente trabajo se analiza el método de cálculo propuesto por la Federación Internacional del Hormigón (FIB), para el refuerzo de estructuras de hormigón armado mediante encolado de polímeros reforzados con fibras de carbono”, en particular para el caso de elementos lineales sometidos a flexión. Para ello, se comparan los resultados que se derivan de su aplicación con los datos experimentales obtenidos por diversos investigadores en vigas biapoyadas de dif (mas) erentes secciones y longitudes. De este análisis se desprende que, en general, el método de cálculo proporciona buenos ajustes con los valores experimentales siempre y cuando el agotamiento de la pieza se produzca por flexión, situación ésta última difícil de alcanzar al ser frecuentes los agotamientos previos por deslaminación Resumen en inglés The present study analyzes the calculation method proposed by the International Federation for Structural Concrete (FIB) for the strengthening of reinforced concrete structures using laminations of polymers containing carbon fiber, particularly in the case of linear units submitted to flexion. For this, comparison of the results derived from the application of experimental data obtained from different researchers who tested doubly supported beams having different cross se (mas) ctions and lengths, was done. The general conclusion obtained from this analysis was that the calculation method provided good fits of the experimental data whenever the failure of the piece was produced by flexion, situation that is difficult to achieve since failures usually occurred before this, due to delamination

Estudio Experimental de Piezas Lineales de Hormigón Reforzadas con Fibras de Carbono/ Experimental Study of Reinforced Concrete Beams Strengthened with Carbon Fibers

Resumen en español Se ha estudiado el comportamiento de seis vigas reforzadas simultáneamente con láminas y tejidos de fibra de carbono. Se analiza, para este tipo de refuerzos, la validez de dos de los métodos de cálculo posiblemente más utilizados. En ambos métodos se plantean las ecuaciones de equilibrio de fuerzas y momentos, pero se introducen suposiciones diferentes: i) el acero tiene suficiente capacidad plástica para no romperse y ii) el agotamiento se produce siempre por rot (mas) ura de la lámina. Los resultados obtenidos ponen de manifiesto que refuerzos de láminas y tejidos de fibra de carbono influyen notablemente sobre las piezas, mejorando su capacidad portante y modificando su comportamiento estructural en cuanto a rigidez y ductilidad Resumen en inglés A study on the behaviour of six beams reinforced with carbon fiber laminates and fabrics was done. The validity of the two most commonly used methods of evaluating the effects of these reinforcements was analyzed. Both methods propose equilibrium equations based on forces and moments, although introducing two different suppositions: i) that the steel posesses enough elasticity to avoid breakage, and ii) failure is always produced by the breakage of the laminate. The resul (mas) ts obtained demonstrate that carbon fiber laminates and fabric reinforcements have notable influence on the pieces, improving their loading capacities and modifying their structural behavior regarding stiffness and ductility

Nueva Generación de Muñones Estéticos de Resina Reforzada con Fibras de Vidrio: Presentación de un Caso Clínico

Resumen en español Una de las aplicaciones más recientes de las resinas reinforzadas con fibra de vidrio es su uso como sistemas de postes y muñones para restaurar dientes que hayan sido tratados endodónticamente. Estos nuevos postes endodónticos a base de resina reforzada con fibras pueden ser clasificados según su forma de presentación y tipo de fibra incluida en la matriz de resina. Hasta el presente, se han reportado dos tipos de postes hechos de estos nuevos materiales: 1) Postes (mas) prefabricados y 2) Postes individualizados. A su vez estos postes pueden contener fibras de carbón, vidrio o polietileno. Aunque el uso de las resinas reinforzadas con fibras como sistema restaurador para muñones artificiales ha sido promocionado por muchos fabricantes, existe escasa información científica que respalde el uso de estos materiales en la práctica odontológica. El objetivo principal de este artículo es proveer una revisión de la literatura publicada recientemente sobre estos materiales y su uso en la odontología como sistemas para postes y muñones artificiales. Resumen en inglés One of the most recent applications of the fiber reinforced composite materials is their use as post and core systems to restore endodontically treated teeth. These new type of endodontic posts can be classified according to the fabrication, type of fiber and disposition of the fber into the resin matrix. Two different types of FRC post and core systems have been reported: 1) prefabricated posts and 2) customized. Prefabricated posts are endodontic posts designed and made (mas) by manufacturers to fit specific dimensions and diameters. Both carbon fiber and glass fiber post systems are commercially available. Customized post and core systems commonly involve the use of woven polyethylene or glass fibers that are pre-impregnated with an unfilled resin and then placed directly or indirectly into the canal. Even though this last application of FRC’s has been advertised and been used by many dentists, there is a lack of scientific evidence supporting the use of the material for this use in dentistry.
