    Liquid crystal display (LCD) industry is among the most rapidly growing and innovating industries in the world. Here continuously much effort is devoted towards developing and implementing new types of LCDs for various applications. Some types of LCDs require relatively high voltages for their operation. For example, bistable displays, in which an altering field at different frequencies is used for switching from clear to scattering states and vice versa, require electric fields at around 10 V/μm for operation. When operated at such high voltages an electrical breakdown is very likely to occur in the liquid crystal (LC) cell. This has been one of the limiting factors for such displays to reach market. In the present paper, we will report on the results of electrical breakdown investigations in high-voltage LC cells. An electrical breakdown in the cell is observed when current in the liquid crystal layer is above a specific threshold value. The threshold current is determined by conductivity of the liquid crystal as well as point defects, such as dust particles in LC layer, pinholes in coatings and electrode hillocks. In order to reduce the currents flowing through the liquid crystal layer several approaches, such as electrode patterning and adding of various buffer layers in the series with LC layer, have been tested. We demonstrate that the breakdown voltages can be significantly improved by means of adding insulating thin films.     Distortions of the structure of a uniform electric field when a dielectric body with a toroidal shape is placed in it are considered in the quasi-static approximation. The rate of distortion is proposed to estimate through the effective permittivity of toroid determined by solving the corresponding boundary value problem. Some numerical estimates obtained using specially developed software in the language of Matlab are given.     In 2011 Oestfoldforskning won an award, organized by Elretur, which will be used to develop a modeling tool for climate, environment and resource accounting for the collection and recycling of electrical and electronic (EE) waste. In this context, it has been made a literature study that will provide the knowledge and foundation for issues in the future work. The amount of EE is growing at a rapid pace, as technological developments. EE changes constantly character and has such a variety of materials and toxic substances, which makes the handling of a complex affair. Norway is a pioneer when it comes to the collection and recycling of EE. Approximately 90% of EE is recovered, of which 83% is recycled, 8% heat is recovered, while the remaining amount is deposited (8%) or destroyed in incinerators (1%). Through the EU Waste Directive and the Norwegian waste is EE industry obliged to receive EE, and to ensure that this will be treated and recycled in a safe and environmentally sound manner. There are currently five recycling companies to take care of the handling and recycling of EE on behalf of EE industry. There are many studies that examine the material composition of EE, particularly in terms of metals and toxic substances. Many metals are scarce resources and has a high market value, so that material is preferable both from an environmental perspective and economically. In literature searches undertaken only found two LCA studies looking at the entire waste stream of EE. Both studies are conducted for the Swiss recycling system, and compare the environmental impacts arising from the incineration and landfill. That is, if all EE either incinerated and the energy recovered, or if anything is deposited. The result of the life-cycle analyzes show that recycling is not besides environmental pollution, but if you look at the options, then recycling significantly less environmental impact. This is due primarily to avoid primary production. In the waste stream, there are three types of materials predominate, metal, plastic and glass. These represent respectively 60%, 21% and 6% of the waste stream. Management of EE is in three stages: collection, preparation and finalization. All these steps are performed by different actors on behalf of the recycling companies. Much of EE containing components and substances that are harmful to the climate and environment. This sorting out of the waste stream and get special treatment. 58% of final processing takes place in Norway, while the rest take place abroad, where Sweden receives 23%.(eb)

    Passenger cars of the railway transport are being constantly improved, thus becoming ever more comfortable for public conveyance. These cars are fitted with air conditioners, installations for heating and forced ventilation, heaters, refrigerators; lighting, radio and TV sets; communication equipment, etc. All the listed fittings need continuous and secure electricity supply from a primary independent source. The paper considers the possibilities of meeting requirements for particular power supply systems - first of all for undercar generators. At operation of such a high-power generator under rugged conditions it should be highly reliable, possessing a reasonable mass and high efficiency. The existing designs of these generators still do not meet the listed requirements in full measure. To improve the efficiency of the undercar generator it is proposed to integrate its excitation winding into the armature one, thus reducing the copper consumption, losses and mass, while - which is the most important - considerably raising reliability of the generator and its availability factor. Dzelzceļa transporta pasažieru vilcienu vagoni nepārtraukti tiek pilnveidoti ar mērķi paaugstināt pasažieru komforta līmeni pārvadājumu laikā. Šādi pasažieru vagoni aprīkoti ar gaisa kondicionēšanas, apsildes, ventilācijas, ūdens uzsildīšanas, saldēšanas, apgaismes, radio, televīzijas, sakaru u.c. iekārtām. Visām pieminētajām iekārtām to darbības laikā ir nepieciešama nepārtraukta un droša elektroenerģijas apgāde no primāra neatkarīga avota. Darbā tiek izskatīta elektroapgādes sistēma, kura spētu nodrošināt izvirzītās prasības. Pie šīs sistēmas, pirmkārt, pieder zemvagona ģenerators. Tam ir jābūt paaugstinātas jaudas, smagos darba apstākļos jānodrošina augsts drošums, ar pieņemamu masu un augstu lietderības koeficientu. Šādu ģeneratoru esošās konstrukcijas pilnā mērā nespēj nodrošināt iepriekš minētās prasības. Lai paaugstinātu zemvagona ģeneratora efektivitāti, tiek piedāvāts elektriski integrēt tā ierosmes tinumu enkura tinumā, turklāt samazinot izmantojamā vara apjomu, zudumus, masu, bet, galvenais, būtiski paaugstinot drošumu un gatavības koeficientu.

    Significant funding has been invested internationally in the development of hydrogen and fuel cells for the last 10 years, among others by the leading car makers. In Denmark alone businesses have, along with contributions from public programs, invested two billion DKK since 2001. The investments have helped to develop and mature hydrogen and fuel cells so that a deployment can be initiated from 2015. With the Danish government's new initiative, ''Our Energy'', which is targeted towards a switch to a fossil fuel-independent society in 2050, it is obvious that hydrogen is included as one of many technologies that can help solve the challenge within the transport sector. The Hydrogen Link Denmark Association and selected Danish players in the Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Partnership in Denmark has therefore prepared this analysis which describes a possible contribution to electrical transport, growth, CO{sub 2} reduction and fossil fuel independence by introduction of hydrogen for transport in Denmark up to 2050. The analysis is based on a possible share of hydrogen cars in the Danish car fleet in 2050 of 50% and the secondary effects of activation of the energy policy objectives for fossil fuel independence, and not least the significant potential for Danish exports of hydrogen and fuel cell technology and affected jobs. Similarly, the contribution of hydrogen for transport in relation to balancing the increased share of fluctuating renewable energy production was analyzed. (LN)

    Full Text Available Rīgas pilsētā septiņos priežu vai priežu-jaukto mežu parauglaukumos veikts augsnes bezmugurkaulnieku bioloģiskās daudzveidības pētījums. Kopumā ievākti 98 augsnes paraugi, kuros konstatēti 40 426 īpatņi, no kuriem 25 237 noteikti līdz sugai, bet pārējie - līdz kārtas vai dzimtas līmenim. Pētījumā apskatīta dažādu augsnes bezmugurkaulnieku sabiedrības raksturojošo lielumu, kā piemēram, īpatņu skaita, sugu skaita, sabiedrību līdzību u.c. rādītāju saistība ar Rīgas pilsētas urbāno mežu biotopiem.

    The economic aspect considered in the work is related to the charging of an electric vehicle (EV) at a single private house when this is done every day. To perform the relevant cost estimation it was necessary to determine: the average annual electricity consumption under the condition of everyday charging an EV and the average electricity consumption off the mains for covering a distance of 100 km by an EV and the time in hours for its charging. Comparison is made for the day-time intervals from which it is possible to choose the preferable for proper loading the electric line and the most beneficial for the consumer. Under analysis are two EV connection scenarios for 100 individual households from which 10%, 20% and 30% have EVs, with 8-h duration of each charging at the current of 13A. The authors consider the consumption and electric energy payment packages which - with planned opening of the electric energy market on January 1, 2015 - will offer the clients the enterprises rendering services on the electric energy sale. Elektroautomobiļa uzlādes režīmi tiek analizēti, ņemot vērā patēriņa elektriskās slodzes grafika kvalitāti raksturojošos rādītājus un patērētāja ekonomiskos ieguvumus. Lai novērtētu ekonomiski stimulētu patērētāju elektroautomobiļa uzlādes laika izvēles ietekmi uz diennakts elektriskās slodzes aizpildījuma koeficientu, tika izveidoti un analizēti 2 scenāriji, kas apraksta 100 privātmāju ar dažādu elektroautomobiļu piederības īpatsvaru divas atšķirīgas automobiļu uzlādes gadījumus.

    Full Text Available Pastāvīgo magnētu pielietošana vējģeneratoros paver plašas iespējas mazas un vidējas jaudas vēja enerģētisko iekārtu (VEI efektivitātes paaugstināšanai. Turklāt samazinās ģeneratoru masa, palielinās drošums, samazinās ekspluatācijas izmaksas. Tomēr, izmantojot augsti enerģētiskos pastāvīgos magnētus ģeneratoros ar paaugstinātu jaudu, rodas virkne problēmu, kuras sekmīgi iespējams pārvarēt, ja pareizi izvieto magnētus pēc to orientācijas, radot magnētisko lauku elektriskās mašīnas gaisa spraugā. Darbā ir mēģināts pierādīt, ka eksistē būtiskas priekšrocības mazas un vidējas jaudas vējģeneratoros, ja pastāvīgie magnēti tiek magnetizēti tangenciāli attiecībā pret gaisa spraugu.

    Full Text Available  SAMMENDRAGHypoteser basert på funn fra tidligere studier av misdannelser hos barn av fedre i ulike yrkesgrupper (1, bleetterprøvet i et norsk registermateriale. Materialet besto av data fra Medisinsk fødselsregister (MFR 1970-93,koblet med data fra Folke- og boligtellinger (FOB fra 1970, 1980 og 1990 med opplysninger om bl.a. farsyrke. Som referansepopulasjon ble benyttet barn av fedre med alle andre yrker enn det som ble analysert.Barn av malere hadde tendens til økt risiko for spina bifida – OR 2,03 (CI 0,99–3,75 og barn av trykkeriarbeiderehadde økt risiko for klumpfot – OR 1,52 (CI 1,10–2,10. Studien har bidradd til å sannsynliggjøreen kausal sammenheng knyttet til påviste samvariasjoner, dog uten å belyse mekanismer. Tidligere positivefunn hos barn av fedre i enkelte store yrkesgrupper som lærere, elektriske yrker, salgsrelaterte yrker, bønderog sjåfører ble ikke bekreftet i vårt materiale.     Full Text Available Rakstā piedāvātā mikrotīkla izpēte ir veikta ar mērķi izstrādāt autonomu, uz vēja un ūdeņraža enerģiju balstītu elektroapgādes sistēmu, kas varētu aizvietot tradicionālās fosilā kurināmā sistēmas, piemēram, mājsaimniecību dīzeļa ģeneratorus, gāzes mikroturbīnas u.c. Mikrotīkla elektroapgādes sistēmā vēja agregāta saražotā elektroenerģija tiek pārveidota atbilstoši standarta maiņsprieguma elektroapgādes parametriem un piegādāta slodzei. Pārpalikusī enerģija tiek pārveidota un uzkrāta ūdeņraža formā, izmantojot elektrolīzes iekārtu un kompozītmateriālu uzkrājēju. Ja pieejamā vēja enerģija nenosedz slodzes enerģijas patēriņu, elektroenerģijas padeves funkciju ar atbilstoša energoelektronikas pārveidotāja palīdzību pārņem ūdeņraža degvielas elements. Ja, savukārt, slodzei nav nepieciešama enerģija, no vēja saražoto enerģiju izmanto elektrolīzes iekārta un tā tiek uzkrāta ūdeņraža formā, atbilstoši uzkrājēja ietilpībai. Piedāvātajā mikrotīklā ir izmantota elektrolīzes iekārta ar netradicionāliem elektrodu pārklājumiem un barošanas bloku, kā arī zemspiediena kompozītmateriālu ūdeņraža uzkrājējs. Galvenie mikrotīkla elektriskās enerģijas pārveidošanas mezgli ir realizēti uz energoefektīvu energoelektronikas pārveidotāju bāzes. Ir izveidoti atsevišķo piedāvātās elektroapgādes sistēmas iekārtu prototipi un veiktas to eksperimantālās pārbaudes, gan atsevišķi, gan darbam kopējā sistēmā.

    Full Text Available Mange i dag tænker umiddelbart, at mundtlig fortælling af traditionelle sagn og eventyr mest hører fortiden til. Men inden for de sidste årtier er der opstået en ny interesse for mundtlig historiefortælling i Danmark. De nye fortællere beretter traditionelle sagn og eventyr, men også historier de selv har oplevet eller fundet på, eller historier fra skønlitterære værker. Man får indtryk af, at historiefortælling stadig har en forbindelse til fortiden. De største fortællefestivaler finder sted i historiske omgivelser på museer, og nutidens historiefortællere henviser ofte til fortælletraditionens lange historie, når de taler og skriver om historiefortælling.Hidtil har den nye interesse for historiefortælling ikke været genstand for forskning, men artiklen fremlægger et studie af historiefortælleres syn på fortælling og fortid. Fokus er, hvilke betydninger begreberne nostalgi og autenticitet har for fortællerne. Artiklen bygger primært på interviews med historiefortællere. Fortællerne blev blandt andet bedt om at beskrive, hvordan de umiddelbart forestillede sig, at historiefortælling fandt sted i fortiden. Det er et positivt billede af fortiden, der toner frem, og fortællerne bruger billederne af fortiden som afsæt til at kritisere træk af den moderne levemåde. De kritiserer medierne og de elektriske apparater for at gøre mennesker passive og ødelægge deres nærvær med andre levende mennesker. Ved at genoptage - hvad fortællerne opfatter som - en ældgammel og uddød tradition, ønsker de at skabe nogle oplevelser, som det moderne menneske savner i vore dages samfund.
