The spectra of Al, Mo, Ag, In, Sn, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Ta and W produced by a Nd doped glass laser (energy about 15J, power near 5.10 8 W) were photographed in the region 20-240A utilizing a 3 m grazing incidence spectrograph. The continuum behavior is described. New identifications of Al XI, Mo XVII, Mo XVIII, Ag XII, Ag XVIII, Ag XIX, Ag XX, Ag XXI, In XIV, In XXI, In XXII, In XXIII, Sn XV, Sn XX, Sn XXI, Sn XXII, Sn XXIV, Cs VIII, Cs IX, Cs X, Cs XXVII, Ba IX, Ba X, Ba XI, La X, La XI, La XII and W VII are given. Lists of measured lines of Mo, Ag, Cs, Ba, La, and W are given. Iron transport in a confined high-temperature plasma

The neo-classical flux, GAMMAsub(n.c), of Fe XXIII is calculated for the experimental conditions produced in PLT by using the data on the iron density profiles and the plasma parameters. The actual flux of Fe XXIII, GAMMAsub(c.e), is then evaluated from the continuity equation, by using the same data. GAMMAsub(c.e) is on the average two orders of magnitude larger than GAMMAsub(n.c), the neo-classical prediction. These results are further tested by introducing the neo-classical coefficients which are multiplied by various anomaly factors into the continuity equation and solving for the density profile of Fe XXIII, using the experimental profiles of Fe XXII and Fe XXIV as given. The results of this section indicate that the first and the second terms in the neo-classical flux expression, GAMMAsub(n.c) = -D 1 (dn/dr) + D 2 n, should be multiplied approximately by the factors (100) and (25), respectively in order to yield the experimentally observed profile of Fe XXIII. Full Text Available Neste trabalho são apresentados os resultados dos nove primeiros anos de um ensaio de adubação do milho instalado em terra-roxa-misturada da Estação Experimental «Theodureto de Camargo», Campinas, no qual foram estudados, em esquema fatorial, três níveis de estêrco, três de calcário e três de NPK mineral. De estêrco, usaram-se 0, 10 e 20 t/ha; de NPK, 0, 60-60-30 e 120-120-60 kg/ha de N-P2O5-K2O. Êsses adubos foram empregados anualmente. O calcário só foi aplicado em dois anos: no primeiro, 2 e 4 t/ha; no terceiro, 2 e 0,85 t/ha. As produções foram geralmente boas e, em média dos tratamentos, tenderam a crescer no decorrer do ensaio, o que se atribui à acumulação de resíduos das consecutivas adubações e ao uso de híbridos cada vez mais produtivos. Embora tendesse a melhorar um pouco nos últimos anos, o efeito médio da calagem foi nulo, mas sua interação com NPK foi significativa e positiva; respectivamente na ausência e na presença de NPK, as respostas ao corretivo corresponderam a -205 e +204 kg/ha. A reação ao estêrco foi linear e mais ou menos constante no decorrer do periodo estudado. A interação com NPK foi significativa e negativa: tendo seu efeito médio alcançado +1.340 kg/ha na ausência de NPK, na presença desta adubação baixou para apenas +443 kg/ha. No conjunto do período relatado, o efeito de NPK foi altamente significativo. Conquanto do tipo parabólico, a curva das produções ainda era ascendente quando se usou a dose 2. Do que se disse linhas atrás, deduz-se que a presença do calcário aumentou e a do estêrco diminuiu o efeito de NPK. A resposta a NPK baixou de +1.904 kg/ha, na ausência, para +1.007 kg/ha na presença do estêrco. Todavia, as produções cresceram sempre que se aumentaram as doses totais de nutrientes. As médias citadas não representam bem o efeito de NPK, pois sua interação com anos, altamente significativa, mostrou que êle aumentou no decorrer do ensaio.This paper reports the first 9-year results of an experiment in which the effects of manure, limestone, and a NPK fertilizer are being tested on continuous corn. The experiment is located at Campinas, on a «terra-roxa-misturada» soil fairly fertile with the initial pH of 5.6. The corn yields were generally satisfactory and tended to increase during the indicated period, this being attributed to the accumulation of residues of the successive fertilizer applications and the use of more productive hybrids. The average effect of lime was null, but its interaction with NPK was significant and positive: in the absence and in the presence of NPK respectively, the responses to lime corresponded to -205 and +204 kg/ha (kilograms per hectare. The yield increases due to manure were very good and more or less constant during the period studied. Its interaction with NPK was significant and negative: +1,340 kg/ha in the absence and only +443 kg/ha in the presence of NPK. As to NPK, its effect was significant and tended to increase considerably as the years passed. While the presence of lime enhanced it, that of manure depressed it. In the 9-year average the response to NPK, which reached +1,904 kg/ha in the absence, dropped to +1,007 kg/ha in the presence of manure. However, the yields still increased where NPK + manure were applied. The authors also studied the influence of the treatments on some characteristics of the corn plant and ears, and on the chemical properties of the soil, as well as the most profitable rates of NPK applications.

Context. The Tarantula region in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) contains the richest population of spatially resolved massive O-type stars known so far. This unmatched sample offers an opportunity to test models describing their main-sequence evolution and mass-loss properties. Aims: Using ground-based optical spectroscopy obtained in the framework of the VLT-FLAMES Tarantula Survey (VFTS), we aim to determine stellar, photospheric and wind properties of 72 presumably single O-type giants, bright giants and supergiants and to confront them with predictions of stellar evolution and of line-driven mass-loss theories. Methods: We apply an automated method for quantitative spectroscopic analysis of O stars combining the non-LTE stellar atmosphere model fastwind with the genetic fitting algorithm pikaia to determine the following stellar properties: effective temperature, surface gravity, mass-loss rate, helium abundance, and projected rotational velocity. The latter has been constrained without taking into account the contribution from macro-turbulent motions to the line broadening. Results: We present empirical effective temperature versus spectral subtype calibrations at LMC-metallicity for giants and supergiants. The calibration for giants shows a +1kK offset compared to similar Galactic calibrations; a shift of the same magnitude has been reported for dwarfs. The supergiant calibrations, though only based on a handful of stars, do not seem to indicate such an offset. The presence of a strong upturn at spectral type O3 and earlier can also not be confirmed by our data. In the spectroscopic and classical Hertzsprung-Russell diagrams, our sample O stars are found to occupy the region predicted to be the core hydrogen-burning phase by state-of-the-art models. For stars initially more massive than approximately 60 M⊙, the giant phase already appears relatively early on in the evolution; the supergiant phase develops later. Bright giants, however, are not systematically positioned between giants and supergiants at Minit ≳ 25 M⊙. At masses below 60 M⊙, the dwarf phase clearly precedes the giant and supergiant phases; however this behavior seems to break down at Minit ≲ 18 M⊙. Here, stars classified as late O III and II stars occupy the region where O9.5-9.7 V stars are expected, but where few such late O V stars are actually seen. Though we can not exclude that these stars represent a physically distinct group, this behavior may reflect an intricacy in the luminosity classification at late O spectral subtype. Indeed, on the basis of a secondary classification criterion, the relative strength of Si iv to He I absorption lines, these stars would have been assigned a luminosity class IV or V. Except for five stars, the helium abundance of our sample stars is in agreement with the initial LMC composition. This outcome is independent of their projected spin rates. The aforementioned five stars present moderate projected rotational velocities (I.e., νesini measured (unclumped) mass-loss rates could be considered to be in agreement with line-driven wind predictions if the clump volume filling factors were fV 1/8 to 1/6. Microencapsulation of tramadol hydrochloride and physicochemical evaluation of formulations

The present project involves the microencapsulation of tramadol hydrochloride with ethocel using a non-solvent addition coacervation technique. The concentration of ethocel was varied to get a prolonged release profile. Then microparticles were compressed into tablets to study the variation of drug release between the microparticles and tablets. The microparticles were off white, aggregated and irregular in morphology having good percentage entrapment efficiency and percentage production yield. Dissolution study was made using USP XXIV apparatus I and II respectively, in 900 ml double distilled water at 50 rpm maintained at 37 degree C. An Initial burst effect was noted in the drug release behavior. Polyisobutylene concentration affected inversely the rate of drug release from microparticles. Dissolution media and stirring speed affected insignificantly (p>.05) the release pattern. Tramadol hydrochloride tablets showed good stability and reproducibility. UV and FTIR spectroscopy and X-Ray diffractometry proved that tramadol hydrochloride was completely and uniformly distributed in ethocel with out any strong interaction. The mechanism of drug release was anomalous diffusion that was best fit to Higuchi's equation. It can be concluded that multi-unit, slow-release tramadol hydrochloride microparticles can be formulated efficiently with non-solvent addition coacervation technique using ethocel. (author)

In this paper we discuss the consensus view on the use of qualifying biomarkers in drug safety, raised within the frame of the XXIV meeting of the Spanish Society of Clinical Pharmacology held in Málaga (Spain) in October, 2011. The widespread use of biomarkers as surrogate endpoints is a goal that scientists have long been pursuing. Thirty years ago, when molecular pharmacogenomics evolved, we anticipated that these genetic biomarkers would soon obviate the routine use of drug therapies in a way that patients should adapt to the therapy rather than the opposite. This expected revolution in routine clinical practice never took place as quickly nor with the intensity as initially expected. The concerted action of operating multicenter networks holds great promise for future studies to identify biomarkers related to drug toxicity and to provide better insight into the underlying pathogenesis. Today some pharmacogenomic advances are already widely accepted, but pharmacogenomics still needs further development to elaborate more precise algorithms and many barriers to implementing individualized medicine exist. We briefly discuss our view about these barriers and we provide suggestions and areas of focus to advance in the field.

The admission of 'biodegradable' plastics on the market has determined the development of analytical methods for measuring and controlling their biodegradation. The Modified Sturm Test was selected as a method. This paper presents the results of two experiments in which different and acclimatized/acclimatization microorganisms were used as inocula. The pre-acclimatization was performed on polyethylene alone or with starch additions, respectively. Starch addition in the acclimatization phase induces the selection of a population able to speed up the starch mineralization but not equally able to further biodegrade plastic polymers.

Of course, BL2532.S3 locates a somewhat heterogeneous array of publications – ranging, as they do, from full-fledged academic monographs to practitioners’ manuals and memoirs, or the type of flimsy booklet one is likely to encounter in dog-eared versions in the book market at Havana’s Plaza de Armas. But it is clear that even specialists are nowadays likely to throw up their hands in despair over the dwindling prospects of being able to keep up with this flood of representations of Santería.

Plasma dynamics above solar flare soft x-ray loop tops

We measure non-thermal motions in flare loop tops and above the loop tops using profiles of highly ionized spectral lines of Fe XXIV and Fe XXIII formed at multimillion-degree temperatures. Non-thermal motions that may be due to turbulence or multiple flow regions along the line of sight are extracted from the line profiles. The non-thermal motions are measured for four flares seen at or close to the solar limb. The profile data are obtained using the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer on the Hinode spacecraft. The multimillion-degree non-thermal motions are between 20 and 60 km s{sup –1} and appear to increase with height above the loop tops. Motions determined from coronal lines (i.e., lines formed at about 1.5 MK) tend to be smaller. The multimillion-degree temperatures in the loop tops and above range from about 11 MK to 15 MK and also tend to increase with height above the bright X-ray-emitting loop tops. The non-thermal motions measured along the line of sight, as well as their apparent increase with height, are supported by Solar Dynamics Observatory Atmospheric Imaging Assembly measurements of turbulent velocities in the plane of the sky.

Fibrillar collagens are well known for their links to human diseases, with which all have been associated except for the two most recently identified fibrillar collagens, type XXIV collagen and type XXVII collagen. To assess functions and potential disease phenotypes of type XXVII collagen, we examined its roles in zebrafish embryonic and post-embryonic development. We identified two type XXVII collagen genes in zebrafish, col27a1a and col27a1b. Both col27a1a and col27a1b were expressed in notochord and cartilage in the embryo and early larva. To determine sites of type XXVII collagen function, col27a1a and col27a1b were knocked down using morpholino antisense oligonucleotides. Knockdown of col27a1a singly or in conjunction with col27a1b resulted in curvature of the notochord at early stages and formation of scoliotic curves as well as dysmorphic vertebrae at later stages. These defects were accompanied by abnormal distributions of cells and protein localization in the notochord, as visualized by transmission electron microscopy, as well as delayed vertebral mineralization as detected histologically. Together, our findings indicate a key role for type XXVII collagen in notochord morphogenesis and axial skeletogenesis and suggest a possible human disease phenotype.

A Massive X-ray Outflow From The Quasar PDS 456

We report on XMM-Newton spectroscopic observations of the luminous, radio-quiet quasar PDS 456. The hard X-ray spectrum of PDS 456 shows a deep absorption trough (constituting 50% of the continuum) at energies above 7 keV in the quasar rest frame, which can be attributed to a series of blue-shifted K-shell absorption edges due to highly ionized iron. The higher resolution soft X-ray grating RGS spectrum exhibits a broad absorption line feature near 1 keV, which can be modeled by a blend of L-shell transitions from highly ionized iron (Fe XVII - XXIV). An extreme outflow velocity of approx. 50000 km/s is required to model the K and L shell iron absorption present in the XMM-Newton data. Overall, a large column density (N(sub H) = 5 x 10(exp 23)/sq cm) of highly ionized gas (log xi = 2.5) is required in PDS 456. A large mass outflow rate of approx. 10 solar mass/year (assuming a conservative outflow covering factor of 0.1 steradian) is derived, which is of the same order as the overall mass accretion rate in PDS 456. This represents a substantial fraction (approx. 10%) of the quasar energy budget, whilst the large column and outflow velocity place PDS 456 towards the extreme end of the broad absorption line quasar population.

Five new oleanane-type saponins, polygalasaponins XXVIII-XXXII, along with one known saponin, polygalasaponin XXIV, and one known acylated sucrose, tenuifoliside C, were isolated from the root of Polygala japonica. Spectra of highly ionized Ni, Ge, Kr, Zr and Mo obtained from the JET tokamak have been studied. In total 20 new lines have been classified as n = 2, [Delta]n = 0 transitions in B-like and F-like ions. Among the identified lines are M1 transitions within the 2s[sup 2]2p[sup 5] [sup 2]P ground term of F-like Zr and Mo and within the 2s[sup 2]2p [sup 2]P ground term of B-like Mo. Furthermore, for B-like Ni, Kr and Mo, the 2s2p[sup 2] [sup 4]P[sub 1/2] and [sup 4]P[sub 5/2] levels, which decay by spin-forbidden transitions, have been found. From the observed wavelengths 20 new energy levels were determined. The experiments have been complemented with multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) calculations and semiempirical analyses of transition energies in the B I and F I isoelectronic sequences. (orig.).

We present SDO/AIA observations of an eruptive X-class flare of 2012 July 12, and compare its evolution with the predictions of a three-dimensional (3D) numerical simulation. We focus on the dynamics of flare loops that are seen to undergo slipping reconnection during the flare. In the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) 131 Å observations, lower parts of 10 MK flare loops exhibit an apparent motion with velocities of several tens of km s{sup –1} along the developing flare ribbons. In the early stages of the flare, flare ribbons consist of compact, localized bright transition-region emission from the footpoints of the flare loops. A differential emission measure analysis shows that the flare loops have temperatures up to the formation of Fe XXIV. A series of very long, S-shaped loops erupt, leading to a coronal mass ejection observed by STEREO. The observed dynamics are compared with the evolution of magnetic structures in the 'standard solar flare model in 3D.' This model matches the observations well, reproducing the apparently slipping flare loops, S-shaped erupting loops, and the evolution of flare ribbons. All of these processes are explained via 3D reconnection mechanisms resulting from the expansion of a torus-unstable flux rope. The AIA observations and the numerical model are complemented by radio observations showing a noise storm in the metric range. Dm-drifting pulsation structures occurring during the eruption indicate plasmoid ejection and enhancement of the reconnection rate. The bursty nature of radio emission shows that the slipping reconnection is still intermittent, although it is observed to persist for more than an hour.

Salbutamol sulphate-ethylcellulose microparticles: formulation and in-vitro evaluation with emphasis on mathematical approaches

Full Text Available "n "nBackground and the purpose of the study: This study reports the laboratory optimization for the preparation of salbutamol sulphate-ethylcellulose microparticles by a non-solvent addition coacervation technique through adjustment of the ratio of salbutamol sulphate to ethylcellulose. The variation of drug release between the microparticles and tabletted microparticles was also investigated. "nMethods: In vitro release profiles of developed microparticles and tabletted microparticles were studied using USP XXIV dissolution apparatus I and II, respectively, in 450 ml double distilled water at 50 rpm maintained at 37°C. "nResults: White microparticles with no definite shape having good entrapment efficiency (96.68 to 97.83% and production yield (97.48 ± 1.21 to 98.35 ± 1.08% were obtained. In this investigation, initial burst effect was observed in the drug release behavior. The rate of drug release from microparticles decreased as the concentration of polyisobutylene was increased from 6% to 12% during microencapsulation. The release pattern of tabletted microparticles was affected significantly (p < 0.05 by the addition of hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC as excepient and insignificantly (p > 0.05 by the type of dissolution media and stirring speed. Tabletted microparticles showed good stability and reproducibility. Ethylcellulose was found to be compatible with salbutamol sulphate. The drug release from all formulations was best fit to Higuchi's equation and the mechanism of drug release was anomalous diffusion from all formulations. "nConclusion: The results of this study suggest that by using ethylcellulose it is possible to design a single-unit, sustained-release oral dosage form of salbutamol sulphate for indication of twice a day.

Chromospheric Evaporation in an M1.8 Flare Observed by the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on Hinode

We discuss observations of chromospheric evaporation for a flare that occurred on 9 March 2012 near 03:30 UT obtained from the Extreme-ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) on the Hinode spacecraft. This was a multiple event with a strong energy input that reached the M1.8 class when observed by EIS. EIS was in raster mode and fortunately the slit reached almost the exact location of a significant energy input. Also, fortunately EIS obtained a full-CCD spectrum of the flare, i.e., the entire CCD was readout so that data were obtained for about the 500 lines identified in the EIS wavelength ranges. Chromospheric evaporation characterized by 150-200 km/s upflows was observed in several locations in multi-million degree spectral lines of flare ions such as Fe XXII, Fe XXIII, Fe XXIV, with simultaneous 20 - 60 km/s upflows in a host of million degree coronal lines from ions such as Fe XI - Fe XVI. The behavior of cooler, transition region ions such as O VI, Fe VIII, He II, and Fe X is more complex. At a point close to strong energy input, the flare ions reveal an isothermal source with a temperature close to 14 MK. At this point there is a strong downflow in cooler active region lines from ions such as Fe XIII and Fe XIV. Electron densities were obtained from density sensitive lines ratios from Fe XIII and Fe XIV. The results to be presented are refined from the preliminary data given above and combined with context AIA observations for a comparison with predictions of models of chromospheric evaporation as envisaged in the Standard Flare Model.

The infauna of three widely distributed sponge species (Hexactinellida and Demospongiae) from the deep Ekström Shelf in the Weddell Sea, Antarctica

Due to their high abundance and large body size sponges have a central position in Antarctic zoobenthos, where they form the most extensive sponge grounds of the world. Though research on Antarctic benthos communities is quite established, research on sponge-associated infauna communities is scarce. We analyzed associated infauna of fifteen individuals of the sponge species Mycale (Oxymycale) acerata Kirkpatrick, 1907 (Demospongiae: Mycalina), Rossella antarctica Carter, 1872 and R. racovitzae Topsent, 1901 (both Hexactinellida: Lyssacinosida). Samples were collected from the deep Ekström Shelf at 602 m in the South-Eastern Weddell Sea, Antarctica, during the ANT XXIV-2 (SYSTCO I) expedition of RV Polarstern. The number of species, α- and β-diversity and the significantly different species composition of infauna communities related to sponge species were calculated, the latter via cluster analysis. The sponge-associated infauna consisted of five phyla: Foraminifera, Nematoda, Polychaeta, Mollusca and Arthropoda. In total 11,463 infaunal specimens were extracted and we found at least 76 associated species. Highest values of α-diversity were calculated for a sample of R. antarctica with a Shannon-Index of 1.84 and Simpson-Index of 0.72 respectively. Our results of the cluster-analysis show significant differences between infauna communities and a unique species composition for single sponge species. Polychaetes of the genus Syllis Lamarck, 1818 were numerous in M. acerata and genera like Pionosyllis Malmgren, 1867 and Cirratulus Lamarck, 1801 were numerous in R. antarctica. Individuals of the amphipod species Seba cf. dubia Schellenberg, 1926 were often found in R. antarctica and R. racovitzae while Colomastix fissilingua Schellenberg, 1926 was frequent in samples of M. acerata. Molluscs were present in M. acerata and R. antarctica but absent in R. racovitzae.

Highlights: • Standard molar volumes of three alkane-α,ω-diols (C 5 , C 8 , C 9 ) in water are presented. • Data were obtained in the range T from (298 to 573) K and p up to 30 MPa. • Dependences on carbon atom number, temperature, and pressure are analysed. -- Abstract: Density data for dilute aqueous solutions of three alkane-α,ω-diols (pentane-1,5-diol, octane-1,8-diol, nonane-1,9-diol) are presented together with standard molar volumes (partial molar volumes at infinite dilution) calculated from the experimental data. The measurements were performed at temperatures from T = 298 K up to T = 573 K. Experimental pressures were slightly above the saturation vapour pressure of water, and (15 and 30) MPa. The data were obtained using a high-temperature high-pressure flow vibrating-tube densimeter. Measured standard molar volumes were combined with data previously published for other members of the homologous series and discussed. Experimental standard molar volumes were correlated as a function of temperature and pressure using an empirical polynomial function. Dependences of standard molar volumes on temperature and pressure were analysed. Contributions of the methylene group to the standard molar volume were also evaluated and discussed

Testing the Prediction of Iron Alteration Minerals on Low Albedo Asteroids

Absorption features centered near 0.60 - 0.65 and 0.80 - 0.90 micron were identified in the spectra of three low-albedo main-belt (165, 368, 877) and two low-albedo outer-belt (225, 334) asteroids (Vilas et al., Icarus, v. 109,274,1994). The absorption features were attributed to charge transfer transitions in iron alteration minerals such as goethite, hematite, and jarosite, all products of aqueous alteration. Concurrently, Jarvis et al. (LPSC XXIV, 715, 1993) presented additional spectra of low-albedo asteroids that had absorption features centered near 0.60 - 0.65 micron without the longer wavelength feature. Since these two features in iron oxides originate from the same ground state, and the longer wavelength feature requires less energy to exist, the single shorter wavelength feature cannot be caused by the iron alteration minerals. In addition, spectra of minerals such as hematite and goethite show a rapid increase in reflectance beginning near 0.5 micron absent in the low-albedo asteroid spectra. The absence of this rise has been attributed to its suppresion from opaques in the surface material. Spectra on more than one night were available for only one of these five asteroids, 225 Henrietta, and showed good repeatability of the 0.65-micron feature. We have acquired additional spectra of all five asteroids in order to test the repeatability of the 0.65-micron feature, and the presence and repeatability of the features centered near 0.8 - 0.9 micron. We specifically will test the possibility that longer wavelength features could be caused by incomplete removal of telluric water. Asteroid 877 Walkure is a member of the Nysa-Hertha family, and will be compared to spectra of other members of that family. Data were acquired in 1996 and 1999 on the 2.1-m telescope with a facility cassegrain spectrograph, McDonald Observatory, Univ. El rendimiento de esta ultima etapa es cuantitativo, siendo de 84 {+-} 7% para el proceso en conjunto. . El plutonio electrodepositado se recuenta con un detector de estado solido (diode de union de silicio) en un contador especialmente construido para este fin. La baja actividad de fondo inherente de este tipo de contadores puede disminuirse aun mas contando solamente las particulas alfa de energia comprendida entre 4.2 y 5,4 MeV. El buen poder de resolucion que se obtiene con capas delgadas de plutonio electrodepositado permite emplear un canal tan estrecho sin que la eficacia de recuento disminuya apreciablemente. Al efectuar el recuento en este intervalo restringido, la actividad de fondo debida a los reactivos y a la eliminacion incompleta de las impurezas de emisores alfa de la orina queda reducida tambien a la mitad, esto es, a un valor del orden de 0,01 pcuries por muestra de 24 horas. In 'A Bayesian Approach to Locating the Red Giant Branch Tip Magnitude (Part I)', a new technique was introduced for obtaining distances using the tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) standard candle. Here we describe a useful complement to the technique with the potential to further reduce the uncertainty in our distance measurements by incorporating a matched-filter weighting scheme into the model likelihood calculations. In this scheme, stars are weighted according to their probability of being true object members. We then re-test our modified algorithm using random-realization artificial data to verify the validity of the generated posterior probability distributions (PPDs) and proceed to apply the algorithm to the satellite system of M31, culminating in a three-dimensional view of the system. Further to the distributions thus obtained, we apply a satellite-specific prior on the satellite distances to weight the resulting distance posterior distributions, based on the halo density profile. Thus in a single publication, using a single method, a comprehensive coverage of the distances to the companion galaxies of M31 is presented, encompassing the dwarf spheroidals Andromedas I-III, V, IX-XXVII, and XXX along with NGC 147, NGC 185, M33, and M31 itself. Of these, the distances to Andromedas XXIV-XXVII and Andromeda XXX have never before been derived using the TRGB. Object distances are determined from high-resolution tip magnitude posterior distributions generated using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo technique and associated sampling of these distributions to take into account uncertainties in foreground extinction and the absolute magnitude of the TRGB as well as photometric errors. The distance PPDs obtained for each object both with and without the aforementioned prior are made available to the reader in tabular form. Full Text Available Systematical archaeological excavations at the site Gamzigrad - Felix Romuliana continued in 2007-2008 in the south-eastern part of the fortified imperial palace, in the section of the thermae according to the plan of archaeological research for this site (2005-2009. In 2007, squares L'XXIV, M'XXIV, M'XXIH and M'XXII, which were investigated in 2005 to the horizon c, dated to the end of the 5th and the beginning of the 6th centuries, were completely excavated to the level of the porch of the earlier fortification of Romuliana (Plan 1. The stratigraphy of the cultural layers in these squares is as follows (Fig. 1: Below horizon c there is a layer of construction rubble mixed with brownish-yellow, clay like, sandy soil, 50-75 cm thick, comprising the finds dated in the last quarter of the 4th-5th centuries, layer D; The level of layer D is horizon d, where a structure destroyed in a conflagration, house 1/07, was discovered in squares M'XXII and M'XXIII. It could be dated, on the basis of the preserved household (pottery, metal and antler items, coins, etc., from the last quarter of the 4th to the middle of the 5th century; Horizon d 1 is a mortar floor discovered beneath horizon d, which presents the earlier phase of house 1/07; Horizon d 2 is the earliest mortar floor inside the house 1/07, covered with a later mortar floor (horizon d 1 and a levelling layer of yellow sand and gravel, which comprises the finds dating also to the last quarter of the 4th to the middle of the 5th centuries; Layer E, 15-40 cm thick, is below horizon d, comprising dark brown soil with rubble and lenses of soot at the bottom, together with finds dated to the second half of the 4th century; Horizon e is covered with layer E, and spread across all the squares which were investigated to the south and to the east of Galerius' bath, where 8 large postholes, which outlined a space 7 x 3 m large and probably some kind of porch, were found along with two furnaces and two pits

Full Text Available The aim of this paper is to quantify and analyze the relative impact of South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA over the global economic welfare. This research analyzes the potential economic costs and benefits of Pak-India trade in exporting various consumer goods. The first scenario is when normal trading relation with India will berestored, it means that both countries will give the MFN (Most Favored Nations status to each other. In the second scenario, the SAFTA will be operative and there will be free trade between India and Pakistan and both countries will remove all tariffs and customduties from each others’ imports. The Global trade analysis GTAP model is used to analyze the possible impact of SAFTA on Pakistan in a multi country, multi sector applied General equilibrium frame work. After employing the simplified static analysis framework, the analysis based on simulations reveals that current demand for Pakistani dates and other consumer items like leather and cotton-made garments will expand after the FTA and consumer surplus will increase. The drop in the domestic prices of dates will increase the production of many downstream industries, which will have pleasantmultiplier effects on the economy of Pakistan. The government may reduce MFN tariffs on industrial dates before implementing the FTA. A key rule of multilateral trade system is that the reduction in trade barriers should be applied on a most-favored nation basis (MFN to all WTO members. The only exception to the MFN principle built into the GATT legal framework is the provision for reciprocal free trade within customs unions and free trade areas (GATT article XXIV. Full Text Available Estudo biométrico de 10 amostras de Trypanosoma cruzi isoladas de casos humanos da doença de CHAGAS, nove mantidas em camundongos brancos jovens e uma mantida em ratos brancos jovens, mostrou a existência de grandes variações amostrais. Assim os valores do comprimento total médio das diferentes amostras variaram entre 16,3μ e 21,8μ., enquanto os valores do índice nuclear médio oscilaram entre 0,93 e 1,52. Êstes resultados ampliam os limites de variações amostrais até agora observadas no T. cruzi, especialmente os que se referem ao índice nuclear médio.

Full Text Available L’article propose de montrer comment le motif de la marmite, courant dans la culture de la Renaissance, se spécialise dans un sens politique pour constituer une insulte dans le contexte précis de la polémique opposant pamphlets catholiques et protestants pendant les guerres de religion. En effet, le motif de la marmite, objet central de la cuisine, condense héritage biblique (Ezechiel XI et XXIV, tradition littéraire (Plaute et culture populaire (telle que Rabelais s’en fait l’écho, pour constituer une critique des présumés péchés du clergé (concupiscence, gourmandise, pacte avec le diable, etc.. A travers l’étude de plusieurs pamphlets (Thomas Beaux-Amis, Théodore de Bèze, etc. se répondant dans le cadre d’une polémique centrée sur les rites chrétiens, nous mettons en évidence la dynamique discursive permettant la réappropriation du motif dans une valeur d’insulte. Nous étudions en particulier les processus argumentatifs utilisés au fil des pamphlets par chaque camp pour renvoyer l’insulte à l’autre. Il est alors possible de suivre le cheminement discursif de la construction d’une insulte. Full Text Available This work, which follows on from previous ones, studies the development of the solid-stage quantity formed in ASTM D 1141-75 artificial sea-water, in which the series of samples of mortar (1:3, made up of a portland cement resistant to sulfate (cement 2 < > P 450-Y and the mixtures: cement 2/slag = 85/15, 65/35, 40/60 and 30/70, in weight, were submerged for periods of 56, 90, 180 and 360 days (conservation-attack periods at this stage. This took place after the curing period (1 day in a humid chamber and 21 days submerged in filtered drinking water. The change in the pH value and the concentration of Ca (II, Mg (II, SO₄ (II and Cl (I ions in this ASTM artificial seawater are likewise studied, as are the content of Ca (II, Mg (II and SO₄ (II ions from the aforementioned solid stages. The structural composition of these solid stages and of the enriched fraction from the samples of mortar was determined by XRD; an account of this was given in (3. In the cases under study it has been shown that an increase occurs in the concentration of Ca (II during dissolution and in the pH value, the Mg (II, SO₄ (II and Cl (I content is reduced and a new solid stage is formed, these being the function of the mixture used for making the series of samples mentioned and of the conservation-attack period. Furthermore, it has been proved that the evolution in the Ca (II and Mg (II content is closely linked; when evolution in the first increases, that of the second decreases and vice-versa, there being a point which corresponds to the Ca (II ↔ Mg (II ionic balance. Quantities of Ca (II in to the dissolution and in the new solid stage, from compounds of dissolved, hydrated cement, show an increase in keeping in accordance with the conservation-attack period of each serie of samples made up of a cement 2/slag mixture, and decrease sharply in accordance with the reduction of cement 2 content in the aforementioned mixture. If, moreover, the Ca (II content in the ASTM artificial sea-water is taken into account, the dissolving process of the Ca (II compounds in the cement (average values may be added. The Mg (II ion has virtually disappeared from the ASTM artificial sea-water, in which were submerged the series of mortar samples made up of cement 2 and of the mixture containing 15% slag, in weight; in these environments, it has precipitated in the form of brucite. In the other environments, it is found in various quantities, according to the mixture used in making up the samples. The greatest quantities of SO₄ (II and Cl (I ions that have disappeared from the artificial sea-water correspond to the environments containing the mortar samples made up of cement 2 and the mixtures with 15% and 35% slag for the first, and 35%, 60% and 70% slag in the case of the second. In the new solid stages, SO₄ (II ions have been detected in quantities of less than 0.07 X 10^-2 moles.

En el presente trabajo, continuación de otros, se estudia la evolución de la cantidad de fase sólida formada en el agua de mar artificial ASTM D 1141-75 en donde han estado sumergidas las series de probetas (1:3 hechas con un cemento portland resistente al yeso (cemento 2< > P 450-Y y con las mezclas cemento 2/escoria = 85/15, 65/35, 40/60 y 30/70, en peso, durante 56-90-180 y 360 días (períodos de conservación-ataque, en esta etapa, después del período de curado (1 día en cámara húmeda y 21 días bajo agua potable filtrada. Así mismo, se estudia la variación del pH y de la concentración de los iones Ca (II, Mg (II, SO₄ (II y Cl (I de dicha agua de mar artificial ASTM, así como el contenido de los iones Ca (II, Mg (II y SO₄ (II de las mencionadas fases sólidas. La composición estructural de dichas fases sólidas y de la fracción enriquecida extraída de la probetas de mortero se determinó por DRX; de ello se dio cuenta en (3. En los casos estudiados se ha puesto de manifiesto que se produce un aumento de la concentración de Ca (II en la disolución y del valor del pH, una disminución del contenido de Mg (II, SO₄ (II y Cl (I, así como la formación de una nueva fase sólida, que son función de la mezcla utilizada para fabricar las mencionadas series de probetas y del tiempo de conservación-ataque. Por otra parte, se ha probado que la evolución de los contenidos de Ca (II y de Mg (II están íntimamente ligados; cuando el del primero aumenta, el del segundo disminuye y viceversa, existiendo un punto que corresponde al equilibrio iónico Ca (II ↔ Mg (II. Las cantidades de Ca (II en la disolución y en la nueva fase sólida, procedentes de los compuestos del cemento hidratado disueltos, experimentan un incremento según lo hace el tiempo de conservación-ataque de cada serie de probetas hechas con una mezcla cemento 2/escoria y disminuyen bruscamente conforme lo hace el contenido de cemento 2 en la mencionada mezcla. Si, además, se tiene en cuenta el contenido de Ca (II del agua de mar artificial ASTM, el proceso de disolución de los compuestos de Ca (II del cemento (valores medios es aditivo. El ion Mg (II ha desaparecido, prácticamente, del agua de mar artificial ASTM en donde han estado sumergidas las series de probetas de mortero hechas con cemento 2 y con la mezcla que tiene 15% (en peso de escoria; en estos medios ha precipitado como brucita. En los restantes medios se encuentra en cantidades diversas según la mezcla utilizada en la fabricación de probetas. Las mayores cantidades desaparecidas de los iones SO₄ (II y Cl (II del agua de mar artificial corresponden a los medios en donde han estado las probetas de mortero hechas con cemento 2 y con las mezclas que tienen 15 y 35% de escoria, para el primero, y 35, 60 y 70% de escoria, para el segundo. En las nuevas fases sólidas se han detectado los iones SO₄ (II en cantidades menores de 0,07 X 10^-2 moles.

Although its principal thrust is geared towards the analytical chemist in an X-ray diffraction (XRD) or X-ray fluorescence (XRF) service laboratory, this text will be of use primarily as a reference source in all milieus dealing with undergraduate research projects and advanced laboratory courses in physical and analytical chemistry. It contains dozens of suggestions for preparing randomly oriented small samples of nearly anything. For example, rocks and minerals, soft organics and hard ceramics, radioactive and liquid materials, metals and oils are all treated. As the availability of XRD and XRF equipment has increased, so has the use of these techniques in the teaching schedule. Many undergraduate laboratory and research projects utilizing these methods have been described in the literature and are found in laboratory textbooks. Very often, especially with the increasingly common use of automated computer-controlled instrumentation, sample preparation has become the key experimental technique required for successful data collection. However, it is not always easy to prepare the statistically random distribution of small particles (crystallites) that is required by these methods. A multitude of techniques have been developed over the past 70 years, but many of them have been handed down by word of mouth or are scattered throughout the literature. The size of the contaminated area depends on the type and activity of the radioactive material, on the type and geometry of the dispersion device, on the micro-meteorology conditions and on the cross contamination caused by the movement of people inside the contaminated areaxxxiii. Two experimental programs, G reen Field x xxiv (GF) and R ed House x xxv (RH) were recently conducted in Israel in order to increase the preparedness for a RDD event. The GF program aimed at evaluating the consequences of an outdoor and an indoor explosion of an RDD device; while the RH program aimed at evaluating the outcome of a silent dispersion of a radioactive material inside a building. Based on the results of these two experimental programs, the consequences of a possible RDD attack or a silent indoor dispersion of a radioactive material will be given and the necessary preventative steps that can be taken in order to secure NCI's against these threats will be specified

value. Carbonaceous: These asteroids were interpreted as "carbonaceous chondrites", due to a superficial resemblance in spectral shape and their lesser abundance than S-types. Later it was shown that the most common CCs, COs and CVs, actually fall into the classical S class (now broken off as a separate K class). But Cs and the related G, B, and F classes have been persistently interpreted as CM/CI analogs even though their only resolvable spectral feature is much shallower than that of the CM/CI meteontes. This difference has been rationalized with more "space weathering" processes. However, recently rare highly metamorphosed CCs have been shown to match the C-G-B-F asteroid without "weathering"[4], suggesting that CIs and CMs come from some small, undiscovered class of outer belt asteroids analagous to Qs in the inner belt. These examples demonstrate an evolution of our thinking from belief in a close relationship between the meteorite population and the asteroids (with any discordant results from the telescope explained away by ad hoc mechanisms), toward a model in which the gigantic meteorite data set is seen as highly biased and non-representative of the asteroid belt, and in many cases useless due to the multiple possible interpretations of the same data. It is time for a more balanced approach to asteroid science, in which meteoritics plays a supplementary role to direct studies of asteroids, rather that the dominant one it has to date. comparison, while for Mihonoseki only (3) was used. The difficulty was to prepare a suitable mock sample having the same density as chondrites 3.5. Especially for a large sample like Mihonoseki, even when we use about equal fractions of olivine sand and metallic iron, the weight of the mock was about 80%, and when we intend to obtain heavier than 90%, we have to use a larger portion of metallic iron, which causes some reductions in the efficiencies of 20-30%, depending on energies. Results: The contents of 14 gamma emitters were studied as shown in the Table (which appears in the hard copy). Errors quoted are only from counting statistics. The most striking may be to learn that Mihonoseki contains a very low level of 60Co; the content is lower than 1 dpm/kg, which could not be determined accurately by a current-direct gamma counting. This reflects the smaller preatmospheric size of the body, and consistent with other observations such as 22Ne/21Ne = 1.180 [1] and lower activity levels of general products such as 46 dpm 26Al/kg, which is about three-fourths of a common level among L chondrites. Comparative analysis of several sediment transport formulations applied to dam-break flows over erodible beds

studied. The first one is the benchmark case presented in Soares-Frazao et al. (2012), and consists in an instanteneous dam-break flow over a sand bed. The second one corresponds to the experimental studies performed at the Engineering Faculty of the UNAM (Fuentes-Mariles et al. (2010)) and consists in the erosion of a volcanic sand dike by an overtopping flow. In both cases experimental measurements of water depth and bed evolution are available to evaluate the performance of different sediment transport formulations. A sensitivity analysis to the physical properties of the bed material (grain density and size) is also presented for each formulation, in order to analyse to which degree the properties of the bed material need to be defined in the numerical model. Como ponto de convergência entre teoria e prática poética, tomaremos como exemplo os poemas ‘XXIII’ e ‘XXIV’ do Canto Primeiro de Invenção deOrfeu de Jorge de Lima.This work presents, in a didactic manner, a few considerations about the use made by Surrealism of some exemplary techniques in modern poetry (such as automatic writing, the dream, the image, and the collage to achieve its aesthetic project that privileges the dream and imagination as artistic practice. As a point of convergence between poetic practice and theory, we will take as example poems ‘XXIII’ and ‘XXIV’ of the First Canto of Jorge de Lima’s Invenção de Orfeu.

Theophilus and Piccolomini craters. Anorthosites have now been located on, or very near, the four innermost rings of Nectaris. Northern Highlands. Recent studies utilizing both Earth-based spectra and Galileo SSI suggest that pure anorthosite is exposed within Goldschmidt crater and west of Thales [6]. Both areas are plains units that have been affected by nearby large Copernican craters (Thales and Anaxagoras). Other occurrences. Anorthosites have also been identified in the central peaks of Alphonsus and Petavius [5,7]. Both of these craters are very near major rings of ancient impact basins. Discussion: To date, anorthosites have only been identified in a relatively narrow belt in the southern highlands, extending from Petavius in the east to the Inner Rook Mts. on the western limb, and at two locations in the far north. Extensive spectral studies of many nearside regions (e.g., north central highlands, Imbrium) have failed to reveal additional deposits of pure anorthosite. Lunar anorthosite deposits are almost always found on or very near basin rings. This association is significant only for the inner rings of basins such as Grimaldi and Orientale. These rings were derived from beneath more mafic-rich layers in the pre- impact target sites. In contrast, the anorthosites associated with the outer rings of Nectaris and other basins are generally found in the central peaks and walls of large impact craters. It appears that these anorthosites were derived from layers many kilometers beneath the crater target sites and that the surfaces of these outer rings are not composed of anorthosite. Prediction of secular acceleration of axial rotation of Mars

of daily rotation of the Earth essentially surpasses non-tidal acceleration (35 %) which as shown the author is caused by the directed redistribution of fluid masses of the Earth, in turn caused by polar drift of the centre of mass of the liquid core of the Earth to the north [1]. In case of Mars the opposite picture is expected. It is quite possible, as show the executed estimations, that tidal deceleration of axial rotation of Mars much less than its positive acceleration caused by global dynamics of shells (the core and mantle). gradually improved, so that the SPIG meetings were again organized on a regular basis and the number of mainly foreign participants, has increased. Meetings were held in Serbian tourist resources (Zlatibor, Kopaonik) except the last XXIV SPIG that was held in town of Novi Sad. Depending mainly on the financial support, number of invited lectures varied, but it is felt that all the SPIG meetings have been highly successful. Let us hope that also this twenty-fifth jubilary SPIG will be successful proving that that the idea of organizing this type of meetings in the republic of Serbia should be continued in the future.

Reduction of EAO Positional Observations Database

There is a large data bank of positional observations of Solar System bodies at Engelhadt Astronomical Observatory (EAO). The positional observations include the major planets, except Jupiter. Modern technologies replace classical methods of observations in astronomy and in astrometry as well. At the same time many positional observations have been gathered at astronomical observatories. So taking into account that observations of the past epochs have presenteda great value for astronomy and as times goes by their importance is growing it is obvious that positional astrometry will not lose its practical importance. This was noted in B3 XXIV IAU resolution by the General Assembly. The results of reduction of solar system bodies observations were published mainly in Proceeding of EAO and Transactions of Kazan City Astronomical Observatory. Earlier there have been made about three thousand observations at EAO and Zelenchuk station with the Zeiss telescope (D=400mm, f=2000mm), AFR-18 (photo visual, D=200, f=2000), refractor (D=400mm, f=3450mm), Meniscus camera (D=340mm, f=1200mm), Schmidt camera (D=350mm, f=2000mm). The major planets except Pluto and Neptune were observed with a special cassette chamber equipped with a rotating disk which had an open sector to reduce the brightness of the planets. The dimension of the sector was chosen accordingto the brightness of the planets. The disk was placed in the centre of the astrograph's field. The stars' true brightness was preserved. A large number of catalogues were compiled by the end of the 20th century. We used Tycho-2 catalogue for reducing our observations. As it is known the catalogue Tycho-2 (Tycho-2 catalogue, 2000) includes 2539913 stars. The stars' proper motions given in the catalogue were obtained by comparing positions from Tycho-2 with positions from the Astrographic Catalogue. Therefore they are considered to be highly accurate. century, when sport got itself into totally new social conditions determined with two world economical systems. The longstanding International Olympic Committee chairman Avery Brundage resisted pressure of the international sport associations and the national Olympic committees, his successor Lord Michael Killanin gave free play to it. Juan Antonio Samaranch who became unrestricted dictator of the Olympic movement in 80th and 90th of the 20th century opened gates with final validity. Just he provided for a payment of the high financial fees according to the socialistic model of the sport system. The XXIV. Olympic Games in Soul in 1988 were important in this because tennis players celebrated their come back on the Olympic stadiums after sixty-four years. Tennis was typical representative of the professional sport. What relation was between socialistic and capitalistic sport? Were athletes from the socialistic countries professionals? How the socialistic countries accepted changes into the Olympic movement in 80th of the 20th century? These and other questions keep one of keys for understanding contemporary situation in sport with his troubles: height of the athletes' fees, commercialisation, advertisement and promotion in the media, doping a fair play. I miss ethical and philosophical point of view on the professional sport problems. I continue my historical point of view in presented article. I want to show some lesser-known aspects of the professional sport and remind relations of the socialistic countries to the top sport during cold war. The thirst to succeed in the medal duel contributed to growth of the demands on sportsmen. The training took more and more time. That is why was increasingly impossible for sportsmen to have an occupation or studies. It proves that not only wealthy companies stood at the professional sport emancipation but also specific understanding of the sport amateurism in the socialistic countries policy.

investigaron los rendimientos de las reacciones de los atomos calientes de tritio: a) con aminoacidos, de longitud de cadena creciente; b) con aminoacidos de longitud de cadena constante, pero que contenian distintos grupos funcionales. Con esta finalidad irradiaron durante 15 min, con un flujo de 0,87 * 10{sup 13} neutrones lentos/cm{sup 2} * s, mezclas de carbonato de litio con los aminoacidos que se querian estudiar. Efectuaron los analisis cromato- graficos en fase gaseosa con ayuda de columnas intercambiables (tamices moleculares, parafina liquida en diatomeas) asi como por cromatografia sobre papel. Los datos obtenidos acerca de la resistencia a la radiolisis de los aminoacidos en funcion de la longitud de la cadena carbonada, aunque esten en contradiccion con una de las reglas fundamentales de la radioquimica, a saber, que la resistencia de las moleculas aumenta con el aumento de la longitud de su cadena, pueden explicarse por la transferencia intramolecular de energia a lo largo de la cadena carbonada, desde el lugar de impacto del atomo caliente al grupo oxidrilo y su subsiguiente ''desexcitacion''. En cambio, si bien la energia de los atomos de retroceso del tritio es mayor que la energia de enlace quimico, esta ultima influye en la resistencia a la radiolisis de las moleculas cuya longitud de cadena es la misma, pero que contienen distintos grupos funcionales. Ehksperimenty byli provedeny v rajone proizrastaniya oliv v Rovnee, Ehvina, Gretsiya, v techenie oseni 1961 goda, kogda obychno nablyudaetsya maksimal'naya aktivnost' vzroslykh osobej mukhi. Dlya mecheniya estestvennykh populyatsij vzroslykh osobej byl prigotovlen sostav Stehli j 7, sostoyashchij iz smesi P{sup 32} v vide H{sub 3}P{sup 32}O{sub 4} v solyanoj kislote i v gidroliehate belka. 14 oktyabrya 1961 goda vetvi 30 olivkovykh derev'ev, vybrannykh na polugornoj olivkovoj plantatsii v Rovnee, byli obrabotany rastvorom primanki, mechennoj P{sup 32}. Dlya otlova mukh ispol'zovalis' 500 lovushek Makfehjla s 3% diammonijfosfata v kachestve' pri manki. Lovushki byli rasstavleny v olivkovykh roshchakh vsego rajona Rovnee, a takkhe v sosednikh rajonakh (v lesakh i v olivkovykh roshchakh)na rasstoyanii do 10 km ot mechenykh derev'ev. Bylo sobrano 350 mechenykh mukh oboikh polov v 48 lovushkakh vo vremya 15 proverok lovushek v period mezhdu 15 oktyabrya i 16 noyabrya. Mechenye mukhi, pojmannye s 1 po 35 den' posle obrabotki derev'ev indikatorom, sostavlyali 2% obshchego kolichestva mukh, otlovlennykh v 48 lovushkakh ili 0,15% obshchego kolichestva mukh, otlovlennykh v 298 lovushkakh vo vsem rajone Rovies. 73% mechenykh mukh popadi v lovushki v techenie pervykh 10 dnej posle obrabotki derev'ev indikatorom. Mechenye mukhi byli obnaruzheny na rasstoyanii 44 300 m ot mesta, gde nakhodilis' mechenye derev'ya (maksimal'noe rasstoyanie) . Radioaktivnost' mechenykh mukh sostavlyala ot 258 do 9549 otsch/min (fonovoe izluchenie sostavlyaet 8 - 2 1 otsch/min). demostrado que en las celulas normales de la medula osea la razon entre la incorporacion de uridina y la de aminoacidos permanece constante. En los casos de leucemia aguda, la incorporacion de acido ribonucleico y de precursores proteinicos en las celulas leucemicas es siempre sensiblemente mas reducida, aunque varia de un caso a otro. Asimismo, la razon entre la incorporacion de uridina y la de aminoacidos se altera constantemente en estas celulas. El autor estudia la disminucion y disociacion del metabolismo del acido ribonucleico y de las proteinas en las celulas leucemicas (leucemia aguda), relacionando estos fenomenos con la maduracion defectuosa, tipica de estas celulas. Kak izvestno, strogaya prostranstvennaya uporyadochennost' monomernykh edinits v polimere obuslavlivaet rezkoe uluchshenie fiziko-mekhanicheskikh svojstv bez izmeneniya khimicheskogo sostava. At the final step all these measurements (including results of the previous works) could be compiled to 4D models of different geophysical parameters (Eppelbaum and Ben-Avraham, 2002; Eppelbaum et al., 2010). Analysis of temperature field in the boreholes drilled in the vicinity of the studied site will permit to estimate the temperature (e.g., Eppelbaum et al., 2006c) in the historical period when this artifact was constructed and, correspondingly, utilize this characteristic for investigation of mechanical and other properties of the ancient building material. Studying of temporal variations of magnetic (e.g., Finkelstein and Eppelbaum) and VLF fields can be also used for determination of nature of some buried ancient remains. The geophysical investigations must be combined with geochemical, paleostructural, paleobiogeographical, paleomorphological and other methods (Eppelbaum et al., 2010). Application of informational parameters (Khesin et al., 1996; Eppelbaum et al., 2003b) will permit to present all available data by the use of integral convolution units. Una vez terminado el tratamiento a alta temperatura,la suspension azufre-desechos se enfria hasta 120 o 150 Degree-Sign C y se transporta en forma de liquido al sistema de confinamiento final, donde se la deja solidificar. Aunque los autores tienen el proposito de proteger el sistema de confinamiento contra la accion del agua, han utilizado la resistencia de la suspension solidificada azufre-desechos a la accion del agua como medida de la eficacia del procedimiento. Se prepararon pequenos cilindros de suspension solidificada de desechos simulados que contenian Al(NO{sub 3}){sub 3}, o los nitratos formados disolviendo acero inoxidable, con vestigios de Sr y Cs, asi como de desechos concentrados de elevada actividad que contenian Al(NO{sub 3}){sub 3}. Estos cilindros se expusieron a la accion del agua durante periodos prolongados. Se calculan las velocidades de lixiviacion como si se eliminara totalmente el material de una capa superficial. Las velocidades registradas oscilan entre 10 y 20 milesimas de pulg/anio,o menos, despues de un periodo inicial de 6 a 8 semanas durante el cual adoptan valores algo mas elevados. APRESENTAÇÃO: RELEITURAS HISTÓRICAS DO ENSINO SECUNDÁRIO

A Associação Sul-Rio-Grandense de Pesquisadores em História da Educação tem se pautado por um trabalho sério, criterioso e organizado. Em 1997, com o surgimento de sua Revista - História da Educação - pôde socializar diversos trabalhos e pesquisas de estudiosos da área. Para além dos diversos artigos, resenhas e traduções de intelectuais reconhecidos, essa revista também reproduziu uma seção denominada “documentos”, procurando tornar acessível a uma gama de interessados certas fontes raras e/ou inéditas. Por fim, sempre no intuito de possibilitar trocas, debates e aprofundamentos de pesquisa, em números especiais, o periódico científico da Asphe tem procurado elaborar dossiês. A primeira tentativa coube à revista n. 19, de abril de 2006, com o dossiê denominado “O Ensino de História da Educação nos Cursos de Pedagogia do Rio Grande do Sul”. Cabe a nós mantermos essa iniciativa viva, eis a razão deste segundo dossiê, que tem por tema o ensino secundário brasileiro.

Nos últimos anos, pesquisadores de diversas partes do mundo vêm se reunindo em fóruns específicos de discussão e produzindo trabalhos coletivos sobre o ensino secundário numa perspectiva histórica. Em maio de 2001 foi publicado um número especial da Revue Histoire de l`Éducation, organizada por Marie-Madeleine Compère e Philippe Savoie, dedicada ao ensino secundário, tendo como título “L’établissement scolaire: dês collèges d’humanités à l’enseignement secondaire, XVI-XX siècles”. Entre 10 e 13 de julho de 2002, em Paris, realizou-se o XXIV ISCHE, que teve como tema “o ensino secundário: história institucional, cultural e social”, em comemoração ao bicentenário da criação dos liceus na França, quando foram apresentados trabalhos de vários países sobre o ensino secundário. Depending upon the estimates of T (750 Ma [36], 500 Ma [37], 300 Ma [38]), duration of Fortunian Period can be from 300 m.y (T=750 Ma) to 120 m.y (T=300 Ma). The minimum integrated resurfacing rate (both volcanic and tectonic) at this time was from ~1.2 to ~3.1 km2/y. Duration of Atlian Period is estimated to be from 750 to 300 m.y and the integrated resurfacing rate during this period could be from ~0.2 to ~0.4 km2/y. Such a significant drop of the resurfacing rates suggests that Fortunian and Atlian periods correspond to two different geodynamic regimes that probably were related to different regimes of mantle convection and lithospheric properties.
