  2. Between honour and condemnation : Eduardas Cinzas

    OpenAIRE

    Židonis, Giedrius

    2005-01-01

Eduardas Cinzas (1924–1995) takes a special place among the Lithuanian exile prose writers both because of his exceptional fate and his unconventional plots and characters. In his fiction, he avoided overt use of Lithuanian themes and concentrated on creating realistic images of post-war Belgium, in which he lived at the time. To a large extent his fiction is autobiographical – the author speaks about various life situations which he experienced himself. Cinzas’ prose is about complicated...

    2007-01-01

Full Text Available This article analyses the travel narratives of Maipina de la Barra (1878, Eduarda Mansilla (1882 and Clorinda M atto de Turner (1902, considering the concept of escape as a problematic Gordian knot which leaves evident gender marks and inflections in the writing. It proposes that the subject of the wound, provoked in De la Barra by impoverishment and neglect; in Matto by the violence of work denied, destroyed property, and the censored voice; and in Mansilla by the compulsory choice between family and vocation, is developed in these narratives through diverse strategies which include its over-investment, historization and silencing.

    2000-12-01

Full Text Available Avtorica najprej predstavi Eduarda Lindemana in njegovo življenje primerja z življenjsko potjo Janeza Kreka, slovenskega prosvetitelja, politika in znanstvenika.

Methotrexate (MTX is an antimetabolic drug that remains important in the treatment of breast cancer. Its efficacy is compromised by resistance in cancer cells that occurs through a variety of mechanisms. This study evaluated apoptotic cell death and cell cycle arrest induced by an MTX derivative (MTX diethyl ester [MTX(OEt2] and MTX(OEt2-loaded lipid-core nanocapsules in two MTX-resistant breast adenocarcinoma cell lines, MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231. The formulations prepared presented adequate granulometric profile. The treatment responses were evaluated through flow cytometry. Relying on the mechanism of resistance, we observed different responses between cell lines. For MCF-7 cells, MTX(OEt2 solution and MTX(OEt2-loaded lipid-core nanocapsules presented significantly higher apoptotic rates than untreated cells and cells incubated with unloaded lipid-core nanocapsules. For MDA-MB-231

were 9434 downloads of the Healthy Cup app and 7155 (75.84%) registered users. Among the registered users, 4706 (4706/7155, 65.77%) were active users who posted a total of 47,879 times during the study period. The maximum number of users that signed up in one day occurred on May 30, 2014, the day that the app was officially launched by the Minister of Health during a press conference. During this event, the Minister of Health announced the special government program Health in the World Cup on national television media. On that date, 3633 logins were recorded, which accounted for more than half of all sign-ups across the entire duration of the study (50.78%, 3633/7155). Participatory surveillance through community engagement is an innovative way to conduct epidemiological surveillance. Compared to traditional epidemiological surveillance, advantages include lower costs of data acquisition, timeliness of information collected and shared, platform scalability, and capacity for integration between the population being served and public health services. ©Onicio Leal Neto, George Santiago Dimech, Marlo Libel, Wayner Vieira de Souza, Eduarda Cesse, Mark Smolinski, Wanderson Oliveira, Jones Albuquerque.
