A technique is developed for introducing Moessbauer labels into lipid systems. With the use of stannic chloride as a label the temperature dependences are studied for parameters of Moessbauer spectra of the cephalin+stannic chloride lipid system and of the corresponding model lipid-free system. Conclusions are made on the structure of tin complexes in the systems under study; for lipid system a line broadening is observed at temperatures above -64 deg C, that is probably due to conformational change in the lipid matrix. On the assumption of different diffusion models, the diffusion characteristics of the system studied are estimated at various temperatures. (author)

The comparison of lattice constants of 1,2-dimpalmitoyl-DL-phosphatidylethanolamine (cephalin) and 1,2-dipalmitoyl-DL-phosphatidylcholine (lecithin), chain packing and chain tilting, and the efficiency of space filling suggests a similar molecular conformation in the crystal phase C1 of both phospholipids. The chains order essentially perpendicular to the bilayer plane but the headgroups are packed parallel to it. (author)

    1984-01-01

The results of treatment of hepatic metastases secondary to carcinoma of the breast, bronchus and gastrointestinal tract, are reported in 36 patients; asymptomatic improvement was obtained in 26 patients. The symptomatic relief of pain, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, weakness, fatigue, sweating and abdominal distention was accompanied by reduction in the size of the enlarged liver, by gain in body weight, and by improvement in liver function as measured by determination of the serum bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, cholesterols and proteins, and by the bromsulphalein retention test, the prothrombin time, the cephalin flocculation test and the thymol turbidity. The method of treatment was supervoltage roentgen therapy alone in 22 cases; in 14 cases a single intravenous dose of nitrogen mustard (0.4 mg. per kilogram body weight) was given immediately before the first roentgen treatment. The whole liver, however large, was irradiated through opposed anterior and posterior fields, and the tumor dose ranged from 2,000 to 3,750 roentgens. The over-all time of treatment was eight days in 24 cases, fifteen days in 6 cases, and twenty-two days in 6 cases

Trials were conducted with 56-day-old broiler chickens. The effect was followed up of insulin and alloxan as well as of L-thyroxine and 6-methylthiouracil on /sup 32/P incorporation in phospholipids of the duodenal mucosa. A segment of the duodenum was isolated and Na/sub 2/H/sup 32/PO/sub 4/ was introduced therein. The lipids were extracted from duodenal mucosa and the individual phospholipids were separated by means of thin layer chromatography on sillica gel-G. Radioactivity was determined of individual phospholipid fractions. Blood glucose level was studied in insulin and alloxan-treated chickens. The inference was drawn that insulin significantly enhances /sup 32/P incorporation in the phospholipids in broiler chicken duodenal mucosa. The drop in blood glucose in insulin-treated chickens is inversely proportional to /sup 32/ P inclusion in individual phospholipids of duodenal mucosa. L-thyroxine exerts positive effect in chickens concerning /sup 32/P incorporation in lecithin and lysolecithin, this effect being negative with respect to sphingomyelin, cephalin and cardiolipin. Thyroid gland inhibition by 6-methylthiouracil induces negligible decline in /sup 32/P inclusion.

The STA R Max ® is a fully automated multiparameter coagulometer using clotting (viscosity-based detection system), chromogenic and immunologic assays. STA R Max ® is equipped with an innovative software (STA Coag Expert ® ) designed to assist laboratory in accreditation. The aim of this study was to evaluate its performances for the certification according to ISO 15189 quality standard in the haemostasis unit of our university hospital. The following tests were evaluated: prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), kaolin cephalin clotting time (KCCT), fibrinogen, anti-Xa assay and D-dimers. In normal and pathological range, the intra-assay coefficients of variation (CV) for PT, aPTT, KCCT and fibrinogen were below 4.0%. Intra-assay CV was of 4.0% for the anti-Xa assay and intra-assay CV was of 7.9% for D-dimers. Inter-assay CV were below 5.0% for PT, aPPT, KCCT and fibrinogen, 14.9% for anti-Xa assay and 8.6% for D-dimers. The interlaboratory comparisons were below 8.7% for PT, aPPT and KCCT, 5.0% for fibrinogen and 15.5% for anti-Xa assay. All results were acceptable according to suitable CV established by GFHT and the provider. The concordance between all coagulometers was excellent, with correlation coefficient close to 1 (0.99 for all parameters except for aPPT which was 0.98) calculated thanks to an intra-class correlation study. In conclusion, the STA R Max ® analyser is suitable for haemostasis laboratories and facilitates certification of a laboratory.

Evaluate the conformity of blood red cells units prepared in the Lomé CNTS with European norms concerning volume, haemoglobin content and haematocrite. Measure the conservation of the haemostatic properties and the rate of haemostasis factors V and VIII in the fresh frozen plasma. Measure the rate of residual cells in the plasma. In the year 2006, from March 1st to April 15th, we analysed the quality of 135 units of whole blood, red blood cells (RBC) and plasma from blood donors in the Lomé National Blood Transfusion Centre. The quality control had concerned: the volume of whole blood units; the volume, the haemoglobin content and the haematocrite of red blood cells units; the volume, the prothrombin rate, the cephalin with activator time (TCA), the rate of haemostasis factors V and VIII and the number of residual cells (red cells, leucocytes and platelets) in the plasma. Among the 135 units of whole blood which were controlled, 50.57% were in conformity with the norms concerning the volume. The red blood cells units were in conformity with norms concerning their volume, their haemoglobin content and their haematocrite respectively in 21.48%, 80.75% and 20% of the cases. The volume of 75.56% of the plasma units controlled were conform with the norm. All of the plasma units were conform with the norm concerning the number of residual platelets while the number of residual red blood cells and leucocytes were conform respectively in 80.74% and 60%. The percentage of conformity concerning the prothrombin rate, the TCA, the coagulation factor V and the factor VIII were respectively 66.67; 97.78; 48.89 and 47.4 before freezing, and 54.81; 88.14; 64.44; 84.44 a month after freezing. To improve the quality of the new blood products of the Lomé CNTS, some correctives actions must be applied concerning the adequate volume of blood which must be collected from the donors, the position of the blood bags in during the centrifugation and the volume of plasma which must be

Full Text Available O Brasil está entre os principais exportadores de poaia [Psychotria ipecacuanha (Brot. Stoves] seguido do Panamá e Costa Rica. Brazil is among the leading exporters of ipecac [Psychotria ipecacuanha (Brot. Stoves], followed by Panama and Costa Rica.
