Infinite bubbling in non-K\\"ahlerian geometry
In a holomorphic family $(X_b)_{b\\in B}$ of non-K\\"ahlerian compact manifolds, the holomorphic curves representing a fixed 2-homology class do not form a proper family in general. The deep source of this fundamental difficulty in non-K\\"ahler geometry is the {\\it explosion of the area} phenomenon: the area of a curve $C_b\\subset X_b$ in a fixed 2-homology class can diverge as $b\\to b_0$. This phenomenon occurs frequently in the deformation theory of class VII surfaces. For instance it is well known that any minimal GSS surface $X_0$ is a degeneration of a 1-parameter family of simply blown up primary Hopf surfaces $(X_z)_{z\\in D\\setminus\\{0\\}}$, so one obtains non-proper families of exceptional divisors $E_z\\subset X_z$ whose area diverge as $z\\to 0$. Our main goal is to study in detail this non-properness phenomenon in the case of class VII surfaces. We will prove that, under certain technical assumptions, a lift $\\widetilde E_z$ ...

Improvement of numerical analysis method for FBR core characteristics. 2
Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)
This report is composed of the following two parts and appendix. (I) Improvement of the Method for Evaluating Reactivity Based on Monte Carlo Perturbation Theory: Theoretical formulation in Monte Carlo perturbation method had been checked, and then introduced into a calculation code. There are some cases that the results of the change of eigenvalues becomes positive or negative by changing the estimator, and there is no reasonable difference in the results between the conventional method, which does not consider the change of neutron source distribution caused by a perturbation, and the new method, which consider that change. Thus it is still necessary to check the Monte Carlo perturbation code. (II) Improvement of Nodal Transport Method for 3-D Hexagonal Geometry: We can accurately evaluate hexagonal geometry FBR core by nodal transport calculation code for hexagonal-Z geometry named `NSHEX`. However it is also found that in very heterogeneous core the results is ...

Basic Properties Of Second Smarandache Bol Loops
The pair $(G_H,\\cdot)$ is called a special loop if $(G,\\cdot)$ is a loop with an arbitrary subloop $(H,\\cdot)$. A special loop $(G_H,\\cdot)$ is called a second Smarandache Bol loop(S$_{2^{{\\tiny\\textrm{nd}}}}$BL) if and only if it obeys the second Smarandache Bol identity $(xs\\cdot z)s=x(sz\\cdot s)$ for all $x,z$ in $G$ and $s$ in $H$. The popularly known and well studied class of loops called Bol loops fall into this class and so S$_{2^{{\\tiny\\textrm{nd}}}}$BLs generalize Bol loops. The basic properties of S$_{2^{{\\tiny\\textrm{nd}}}}$BLs are studied. These properties are all Smarandache in nature. The results in this work generalize the basic properties of Bol loops, found in the Ph.D. thesis of D. A. Robinson. Some questions for further studies are raised.

Secondary cell with orthorhombic alkali metal/manganese oxide phase active cathode material
Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)
An alkali metal manganese oxide secondary cell is disclosed which can provide a high rate of discharge, good cycling capabilities, good stability of the cathode material, high specific energy (energy per unit of weight) and high energy density (energy per unit volume). The active material in the anode is an alkali metal and the active material in the cathode comprises an orthorhombic alkali metal manganese oxide which undergoes intercalation and deintercalation without a change in phase, resulting in a substantially linear change in voltage with change in the state of charge of the cell. The active material in the cathode is an orthorhombic structure having the formula M.sub.x Z.sub.y Mn.sub.(1-y) O.sub.2, where M is an alkali metal; Z is a metal capable of substituting for manganese in the orthorhombic structure such as iron, cobalt or titanium; x ranges from about 0.2 in the fully charged state to about 0.75 in the fully discharged state, and ...

At least quinary alloys form metallic glass upon cooling below the glass transition temperature at a rate less than 10.sup.3 K/s. Such alloys comprise zirconium and/or hafnium in the range of 45 to 65 atomic percent, titanium and/or niobium in the range of 4 to 7.5 atomic percent, and aluminum and/or zinc in the range of 5 to 15 atomic percent. The balance of the alloy compositions comprise copper, iron, and cobalt and/or nickel. The composition is constrained such that the atomic percentage of iron is less than 10 percent. Further, the ratio of copper to nickel and/or cobalt is in the range of from 1:2 to 2:1. The alloy composition formula is: (Zr,Hf).sub.a (Al,Zn).sub.b (Ti,Nb).sub.c (Cu.sub.x Fe.sub.y (Ni,Co).sub.z).sub.d wherein the constraints upon the formula are: a ranges from 45 to 65 atomic percent, b ranges from 5 to 15 atomic percent, c ranges from 4 to 7.5 atomic percent, d comprises the balance, d.multidot.y is less than 10 atomic percent, and x/z ...

Measurement of unpolarized semi-inclusive pi+ electroproduction off the proton
Semi-inclusive pi+ electroproduction on protons has been measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The measurement was performed on a liquid-hydrogen target using a 5.75 GeV electron beam. The complete five-fold differential cross sections were measured over a wide kinematic range in Q2, x, z, and pT and over the complete range of azimuthal angles, phi, enabling us to separate the different structure functions, H2+eps*H1, H3 and H4. Our measurements of H2 at low-x were found to be in fairly good agreement with pQCD calculations, suggesting a precocious factorization of the process. Indeed, the conventional f(x)*D(z) term can account for almost all of the observed cross section, even at small z. The measured xF-distributions are in qualitative agreement with high energy data, which suggests a surprising numerical similarity between the spectator diquark fragmentation in the present reaction and the anti-quark fragmentation measured in ...

The crystal structure, electronic structure, and photoluminescence properties of EuxSi6-zAlz-xOz+xN8-z-x (x=0-0.1, 0xMySi6-zAlz-x-yOz+x+yN8-z-x-y (M=2Li, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) have been studied. Single-phase EuxSi6-zAlz-xOz+xN8-z-x can be obtained in very narrow ranges of x?0.06 (z=0.15) and z2+ ions can be incorporated into nitrogen-rich Si6-zAlzOzN8-z. The Eu2+ ion is found to occupy the 2b site in a hexagonal unit cell (P63/m) and directly connected by six adjacent nitrogen/oxygen atoms ranging 2.4850-2.5089 A. The calculated host band gaps by the relativistic DV-X? method are about 5.55 and 5.45 eV (without Eu2+ 4f5d levels) for x=0 and 0.013 in EuxSi6-zAlz-xOz+xN8-z-x (z=0.15), in which the top of the 5d orbitals overlap with the Si-3s3p and N-2p orbitals within the bottom of the conduction band of the host. EuxSi6-zAlz-xOz+xN8-z-x shows a strong green emission with a broad Eu2+ band centered at about 530 nm under UV to near-UV excitation range. ...
