Burner for rotary kiln; Braender til roteroven samt fremgangsmaade til dannelse af en braenderflamme med braenderen

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Burner for feeding a solid and a liquid or gaseous fuel to a kiln comprises a central supply pipe for liquid or gas surrounded concentrically by a first pipe providing an annular passage through which primary air is supplied. Concentrically surrounding that pipe is a second pipe providing an annular channel for supply of solid fuel in carrier air stream. The outlet end of the first concentric pipe is closed by a plate fixed mounted at the pipe end and providing multiple nozzles having their axes parallel to the burner axis. The surface of the plate facing the burning zone provides a divergence opening for the central pipe while the inner surface is formed with helical teeth. These are engaged by complementary teeth mounted on the end of the central pipe which is rotatable and biased by springs so that the teeth are in engagement. Rotation of the pipe causes relative axial motion of the teeth to create tangential slots for admission of primary air into the central pipe. The second ...

An Arabidopsis thaliana methyltransferase Capable of Methylating Farnesoic Acid

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

We previously reported the identification of a new family of plant methyltransferases (MTs), named the SABATH family, that use S-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM) to methylate a carboxyl moiety or a nitrogen-containing functional group on a diverse array of plant compounds. The Arabidopsis genome alone contains 24 distinct SABATH genes. To identify the catalytic specificities of members of this protein family in Arabidopsis, we screened recombinantly expressed and purified enzymes with a large number of potential substrates. Here, we report that the Arabidopsis thaliana gene At3g44860 encodes a protein with high catalytic specificity towards farnesoic acid (FA). Under steady-state conditions, this farnesoic acid carboxyl methyltransferase (FAMT) exhibits K{sub M} values of 41 and 71 {mu}M for FA and SAM, respectively. A three-dimensional model of FAMT constructed based upon similarity to the experimentally determined structure of Clarkia breweri salicylic acid methyltransferase ...

Saturn technology - high output solar cells for varied use; Saturn-Technologie - Hochleistungssolarzellen fuer einen vielfaeltigen Einsatz

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

The laser grooved buried grid (LGBG) cell was developed at the University of New South Wales, Australia. The enormous advantage of the Saturn technology is the simple formation of a selective emitter via two step diffusion, which is optimised on the surface for the charge carrier generation and under the metal grid for contact formation. The reflection losses due to shading are simultaneously minimised by the installation of the contacts at right angles in the wafer surface. Due to the increased infeed compensation, particularly the compensation covering the costs, the economic importance of the energy yield of a PV plant is growing. Ultimately, it is not just the installed output (KWp) that matters to the customer, but increasingly the specific yield (kWh/kWp). An increased energy yield with optimally matched components with the Saturn technology means high annual compensation, which in turn shortens the amortisation period. Supervision of construction, quality assurance, operating experience in the new heating power station II; Bauueberwachung, Qualitaetssicherung, Betriebserfahrungen mit dem neuen Heizkraftwerk II

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

After 3 years of construction the trial run of the heating power station HKW 2 ended in November 1997 on time. No extraordinary damage occured during construction, assembly or commissioning. The plant has been operating according to schedule since November 1997. A brief inspection carried out in the summer of 1998 in order to assess warranty claims showed no damage to any part except one valve. Experience shows that all aforementioned activities were necessary. The paper reports about success and negative experience. Certification according to DIN EN ISO 9000ff., however, affords to guarantee of high-quality construction. Builders of such plants therefore need to set up their own quality assurance centre and ensure its technical competence. If necessary, additional experts should be called in.Quality assurance costs for HKW 2 came to about 0.5-0.6 percent of total costs. In view of the success and long life of this investment these expenses are more than justified. (orig.) [German] Nach ...
