Artwork by Polina Demidova, created with the technique of collage, is being exhibited in the Main Building until 28 October. Visual elements for the technique are usually images and text taken from glossy magazines, and bits and pieces of the information collected from different sources. These are then transformed into something altogether different. There is something special about these works of art, as some of them feature various electronic components from the ATLAS Transition Radiation Tracker (TRT).   Electronics collect, refine and transmit information from the LHC and its detectors. Scientists then put the pieces together, reconstructing the “collage” of nature. In this respect, science, as much as art, underpins and influences modern society. Full Text Available Known in the ambiance of the Romanian art of the interwar period as one of the most talented painters, Auguste Baillayre also asserted himself as an excellent professor. His pedagogical activity has known, from the very start, brilliant achievements. Having received European studies, those over 30 students in his studio, whom Auguste Baillayre remembers in 1961, did not return to Bessarabia. Olesi Hršanovschi-Beassley (Olga Olby, Lydia Luzanovsky, Gregoire Michonze, Antoine Irisse and Joseph Bronstein studied in Paris, Felix Roitman, Helen Barlo and Natalia Bragalia – in Brussels, Elisabeth Ivanovsky, Nina Jascinsky and Nicolae Coleadici in Amsterdam. Theodor Kiriacoff worked in Romania, in Iasi and then in Bucharest, where Helen Barlo and Natalia Bragalia return after studying in France, Gheorghe Ceglocoff comes from Dresden and Galina Ceaşcenco creates her works in Prague. These are all remarkable plastic artists who affirmed themselves outside the Bessarabian borders. Their studies at the art academies „La Grand Chaumière”, „École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs”, „Académie Julian”, „Académie Ranson” in Paris, „Académie Royale de Beaux-Arts” in Brussels, and „Académie de Beaux-Arts” in Dresden have demonstrated the professional level of Auguste Baillayre’s disciples.

Full Text Available The Russian pedagogy leaves its traces of extraordinary value in the cultural development of the Americas. The methodology and experience transmitted to organize the teaching and artistic activity show indisputable results. This work recognizes the practical experience of teaching violin and viola, resulting from the migration of Russian pedagogues which have formed instrumentalists in Cuba and Mexico. Details of Natalia ́s reading in Spanish at home and at school are presented and the relationships between the reading practices in both contexts are documented.The findings in this study remind us of the importance of strong native language literacy foundations and of the role that both home and school play in fostering high literacy levels among children.

However, there is only limited information in the published literature on how to develop a tailored approach to botulinum toxin treatment.Methods: An expert panel of physicians was convened to establish a consensus on developing an individualized approach to treatment of the forehead with incobotulinumtoxinA. Separate treatment protocols were developed for men and women and subdivided by background level of muscle activity: kinetic, hyperkinetic, and hypertonic. Each muscle tone category was then further subdivided to take account of individual characteristics that can influence treatment.Results: Consensus members describe how to perform a dynamic assessment to optimize the dose and injection technique for each patient. A tailored treatment protocol is described for men and women with a wide range of forehead presentations. For each presentation, units of toxin as well as the precise location of injection points were defined by creating a 12-zone map of the forehead.Conclusion: These recommendations depart from traditional consensus documents by providing detailed incobotulinumtoxinA injection protocols for the forehead based on the major parameters that differ between patients, including muscular anatomy, size, and

Experimental models are providing increasing evidence for the pharmacological management of endocannabinoid signaling not only to block the direct reinforcing effects of cannabis, opioids, nicotine and ethanol, but also for preventing relapse to the various drugs of abuse, including opioids, cocaine, nicotine, alcohol and metamphetamine. Several long-acting, non-acetaminophen-containing hydrocodone formulations are undergoing trials in the US under the auspices of the US Food and Drug Administration, and may be available shortly. This article reviews some of the advantages (including drug familiarity and lack of acetaminophen toxicity and potential disadvantages (including altered use patterns and high morphine equivalent dosing of such a medication formulation. Full Text Available Natalia Gorska's thesis is based on a set of 9 papers published in scientific journals (Gorska & Klusek 1998, Gorska 2000, Gorska & Chu 2001a, b, Gorska & Ona 2003a, b and conference proceedings (Gorska & Klusek 1994, Gorska 1999, Gorska & Chu 2000, which broadly summarise her integrated research achievements in underwater acoustics from 1994 to 2003. She is the sole author of two of the articles (Gorska 1999, 2000, and is the first co-author, taking a leading part, in the others (Gorska & Klusek 1994, 1998, Gorska & Chu 2000, Gorska & Chu 200la, b, Gorska & Ona 2003a, b.     Her research objective was to work out the theoretical background to certain problems of sound scattering by biological targets - single individuals and aggregated layers of fish and zooplankton - in relation to environmental conditions in the sea. In the study she focused on acoustical extinction and backscattering, including the phenomenon of echo interference. In conjunction wit h the co-authors of papers Gorska & Ona 2003a, b, Gorska & Chu 2001a, b and Gorska & Chu 2000, she was able to apply and verify her theoretical results empirically.

The Concept of Work in Yupik Eskimo Society Before and After the Russian Influx: A Linguist’s Perspective

Full Text Available The Yupik language has a word to signify ‘work’ derived from the stem qepgha(gh- (qepghaq ‘work’ [noun], qepghaghtuq ‘he works’, qepghaghta ‘worker’, etc. The scope of the meaning of this word changed drastically after the Russians came to Chukotka to stay in the 1930s. While in the pre-(intensive contact times the word mainly meant ‘house work’ or ‘processing the carcass of a killed animal’, in mid-20th century it acquired new meanings, borrowing them from Russian. The usage of the word also became a replica of Russian usage: the concept acquired new dependent words, like evaluative adverbs and adjectives, or inanimate agents. This change of meaning reflected social changes that took place in the Yupik world as a result of the modernisation process of the 1950s and 1960s, and is an indicator of the deep transformation the society underwent under Russian (Soviet influence. The paper analyses this process using two sources from two different epochs: Yupik texts recorded by Yekaterina Rubtsova in the 1940s, that is, in the pre-(intensive contact period, and a modern Russian-Yupik dictionary compiled by Natalia Rodionova, a teacher of Yupik Eskimo at the Anadyr college, and published 70 years later, in 2014.

They are high-yield and can be acquired through noninvasive methods from adult tissues. Moreover, they are nontumorigenic and are the most widely studied. On the other hand, induced pluripotent stem (iPS cells can be derived directly from adult cells through gene reprogramming. The new iPS technology avoids the embryo destruction or manipulation to generate pluripotent cells, therefore, are exempt from ethical implication surrounding embryonic stem cell use. The pre-differentiation of iPS cells ensures the safety of future approaches. Both mesenchymal stem cells and iPS cells can be used for autologous cell transplantations without the risk of immune rejection and represent a great opportunity for future alternative therapies. Here, we investigated chum salmon eggs (CSEs as a source of active ingredients, including vitamins, unsaturated fatty acids, and proteins. We incubated human dermal fibroblast cultures for 48 hours with high and low concentrations of CSE extracts and analyzed changes in gene expression. Cells treated with CSE extract showed concentration-dependent upregulation of collagen type I genes and of multiple antioxidative genes, including OXR1, TXNRD1, and PRDX family genes. We further conducted in silico phylogenetic footprinting analysis of promoter regions. These results suggested that transcription factors such as acute myeloid leukemia-1a and cyclic adenosine monophosphate response element-binding protein may be involved in the observed upregulation of antioxidative genes. Our results support the idea that CSEs are strong candidate sources of antioxidant materials and cosmeceutically effective ingredients. Full Text Available The main goal of the article is to outline significant contribution to the history of Belgrade ballet of those Russian dancers who came to the Kingdom of Serbia after leaving Russia in 1917, and to monitor the contribution of the next generations of Russian masters who came to Belgrade, the capital of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, later the Socialistic Federative Republic of Yugoslavia. They have invested a lot of their effort, talent, and time, laid the foundations and provided very fast development of Belgrade ballet so that it caught up step with European ballet scene. The article, based on numerous sources and literature, including unpublished memoirs, confirmed that dancers who came after Bolshevik revolution contributed to the establishment of the national ballet center at the Belgrade National Theater and the ballet school where the first dancers of the Serbian origin were formed under the tutelage of Elena Poljakova, Nina Kirsanova, Xenia Grundt-Dumet. Celebrated ballerinas Anna Pavlova and Tamara Karsavina performed at the Belgrade stage in the twenties of the last century. In addition, unlike previously common approaches to this subject limited to the role and activity of the Russian emigration in the interwar period, the article is extended from the period during and after the Second World War to the present days. Accordingly, the paper includes the renowned Soviet masters such as Leonid Lavrovsky, Maya Plisetskaya, Natalia Dudinskaya, and those who have played important role in the contemporary ballet life in Serbia, to name Hmela, Pilipenko, Kasatkin, Logunov, and Kostjukov.

The mobile app for the collection and processing of relevant data, appropriate software for CGM system signals processing, and BG prediction models were developed for a recommender system. It monitors, by using the principles of near infra-red (NIR dynamic light scattering, the tendency of blood to create clots. The Thrombo-Monitor observes the very initial changes of blood viscosity, which occurs due to the temporarily induced stasis of capillary blood of the finger. One hundred and fifteen patients aged >65 years (matched by age and sex participated in the study. Patients were initially divided into four groups based on the patient’s medical therapy. The study groups were: warfarin, enoxaparin, aspirin and/or clopidogrel, and a control group. The medications were given according to the patient’s comorbidities (eg, atrial fibrillation [AF], status post pulmonary embolism [S/p PE], status post cerebrovascular accident [S/p CVA]. The Thrombo-Monitor Index (TMI is a noninvasive index, derived on the basis of laboratory test results of international normalized ratio (INR and prothrombin time (PT values. For the group of patients who were treated only with warfarin, TMI was adjusted by using the jackknife statistical approach to create maximum correlation and linearity with INR and PT values that ranged from 1.1 to 5.0. For all warfarin patients (N = 35 the TMI was found to have a good correlation with INR and PT values (R2 = 0.64, P < 0.00001; mean TMI = 1.86 (SD = 0.91; mean INR and PT = 2.3 (SD = 0.91. The facts that it narrates, the events to which refers and the characters whom mentions, are so important for the history of Spain and France in the High Middle Ages, that go beyond the limits of the hagiographical frame of the story and give it a great documentary value. The author of this article examines them all within their socio-religious context, and offers the translation into Spanish of the first book of the three that constitute the work, which is the most interesting and the best to combine history and hagiography.

In this report, we studied the pharmacokinetics, toxicity, and therapeutic activity of ceftiofur–PHBV (ceftiofur–poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate in rats. The pharmacokinetic study demonstrated a sustained release of ceftiofur into the bloodstream, with detectable levels over the minimum inhibitory concentration for at least 17 days after a single intramuscular injection of ceftiofur–PHBV (10 mg/kg weight. In addition, the toxicological evaluation of biochemical, hematological, and coagulation blood parameters at the therapeutic dose demonstrated the safety of ceftiofur–PHBV, with no adverse effects. In addition, ceftiofur–PHBV exhibited a therapeutic effect for a longer time period than the nonencapsulated ceftiofur in rats challenged with Salmonella Typhimurium. Fertilized chicken eggs were divided into the following treatment groups: placebo, diamond NPs, graphite NPs, pristine graphene, small graphene oxide, large graphene oxide, and reduced graphene oxide. Experimental solutions at a concentration of 500 µg/mL were administrated into the egg albumin. Gross pathology and the rate of survival were examined after 5, 10, 15, and 20 days of incubation. After 20 days of incubation, blood samples were collected and the weight of the body and organs measured. The relative ratio of embryo survival decreased after treatment all treatments except diamond NPs. There was no correlation between the rate of survival and the ζ-potential or the surface charge of the CNPs in solution. Body and organ weight, red blood-cell morphology, blood serum biochemical parameters, and oxidative damage in the liver did not differ among the groups. These results indicate that CNPs can remain in blood circulation without any major side effects, suggesting their potential applicability as vehicles for drug delivery or active compounds per se. However, there is a need for further investigation of their properties, which vary depending on production methods and surface functionalization. Breast cancer is especially known for long asymptomatic periods, up to 25 years, with no evidence of the disease, followed by a relapse. Factors that determine the cell's decision to enter a dormant state and that control its duration remain unclear. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in understanding how tumor cells circulating in the blood interact and extravasate into secondary sites and which factors might determine whether these cells survive, remain dormant, or become macrometastases. The mechanisms of tumor cell dormancy are still not clear. Two different hypotheses are currently discussed: tumor cells persist either by completely withdrawing from the cell cycle or by continuing to proliferate at a slow rate that is counterbalanced by cell death. Because dormant disseminated tumor cells may be the founders of metastasis, one hypothesis is that dormant tumor cells, or at least a fraction of them, share stem cell-like characteristics that may be responsible for their long half-lives and their suggested resistance to standard chemotherapy. Therefore, knowledge of the biology of tumor cell dormancy may be the basis from which to develop innovative targeted therapies to control or eliminate this tumor cell fraction. E-mail: natalia.gaeta@hotmail.com Pestivirus are responsible for reproductive disorders in sheep and, although they are widely studied in other countries, Brazil lacks information on the prevalence of virus in sheep flocks. To investigate the occurrence of pestiviruses in the State of São Paulo, 268 samples of serum sheep with a history of reproductive problems from 28 properties were collected. Using virusneutralization as the diagnostic technique, it was found two (1% positive animals, with antibody titer of 20, with both females showing a history of reproductive problems, one with neonatal death and another, showing uterine secretion. Two properties studied showed reactive animals (7%. In five of these (18%, bovine co-creation was observed. There were no associations between any reagent animals and the risk factors studied. This work is one of the pioneers in the study of the prevalence of anti-pestivirus antibodies in Brazilian sheep flocks. The low frequency and low viral titer observed suggest that pestivirus are not an important agent related to the presence of reproductive disorders in sheep herds.

We hypothesized that the antimicrobial peptide (AMP complex of the host’s immune system can be used for this purpose and examined the assumption on model biofilms. Methods: FLIP7, the AMP complex of the blowfly Calliphora vicina containing a combination of defensins, cecropins, diptericins and proline-rich peptides was isolated from the hemolymph of bacteria-challenged maggots. The complex interaction with antibiotics of various classes was studied in biofilm and planktonic cultures of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Acinetobacter baumannii by the checkerboard method using trimethyl tetrazolium chloride cell viability and crystal violet biofilm eradication assays supplemented with microscopic analysis. Results: We found that FLIP7 demonstrated: high synergy (fractional inhibitory concentration index <0.25 with meropenem, amikacin, kanamycin, ampicillin, vancomycin and cefotaxime; synergy with clindamycin, erythromycin and chloramphenicol; additive interaction with oxacillin, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin and gentamicin; and no interaction with polymyxin B. The interaction in planktonic cell models was significantly weaker than in biofilms of the same strains. The analysis of the dose–effect curves pointed to persister cells as a likely target of FLIP7 synergistic effect. The biofilm eradication assay showed that the effect also caused total destruction of S. aureus and E. coli biofilm materials. Patients and methods: The study was conducted in community pharmacies within a European Union country that belongs to the professional research network. Patients and methods: Four hundred and forty adults with recent-onset, moderate-to-severe ST due to upper respiratory tract infection (URTI were randomized to a single dose of either flurbiprofen 8.75 mg spray (n=218 or flurbiprofen 8.75 mg lozenge (n=222. Throat swabs for bacterial culture were taken at baseline. ST relief was assessed at 1 minute, 1 and 2 hours post-dose using the Sore Throat Relief Rating Scale. The change from baseline at 1 and 2 hours post-dose in difficulty swallowing and swollen throat was assessed using the difficulty swallowing scale and the swollen throat scale, respectively. Patients’ experience of URTI symptoms was assessed using a URTI questionnaire at baseline and 2 hours post-dose. The change in Qualities of Sore Throat Index, a 10-item index of qualities of ST, from baseline at 2 hours post-dose was also measured. Results: ST relief was evident in the spray and the lozenge treatment groups at 1 minute, 1 and 2 hours post-dose (P>0.05. In both groups, scores for difficulty swallowing and swollen throat significantly improved at 1 and 2 hours post-dose compared with baseline. Methods: Genotyping was completed by amplification and Sanger sequencing of the GALNS gene. The SWISS-model platform was used for bioinformatic analysis, and mutant proteins were generated by homology from the wild-type GALNS code 4FDI template from the Protein Data Bank (PDB database. Docking was performed using the GalNAc6S ligand (PubChem CID: 193456 by AutoDock Vina 1.0 and visualized in PyMOL and LigPlot+. Results: Eleven variants were identified, and one new pathogenic variant was described in the heterozygous state, which is consistent with genotype c. 319 G>T or p.Ala107Ser. The pathogenic variant c.901G>T or p.Gly301Cys was the most frequent mutation with 51.6% of alleles. Docking revealed affinity energy of −5.9 Kcal/mol between wild-type GALNS and the G6S ligand. Some changes were evidenced at the intermolecular interaction level, and affinity energy for each mutant decreased. Conclusion: Clinical variables and genotypic analysis were similar to those reported for other world populations. Genotypic data showed greater allelic heterogeneity than those previously reported. Health care providers were required to have experience prescribing or managing patients using canagliflozin to be included in the study. Health care providers compared canagliflozin with other T2DM medication classes on clinical characteristics, costs, and patient satisfaction. Confidence in canagliflozin was also measured. Health care providers reported their canagliflozin prescribing experience and good candidate characteristics for treatment. Finally, providers reported on patient outcomes among those receiving canagliflozin. All variables were compared across provider type.Results: Health care providers reported higher favorability for canagliflozin for blood pressure and body weight compared with dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4 inhibitors and higher favorability for effect on blood pressure, body weight, treatment satisfaction, and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c compared with sulfonylureas (SUs, with differences observed for effect on blood pressure. Health care providers reported being very/extremely confident (55%–74% with canagliflozin as a second- to fourth-line treatment. The study was performed on a group of 50 patients from the Kuyavian–Pomeranian Voivodeship. In this study, the Health Behavior Inventory and the Satisfaction with Life Scale were used. The results were statistically analyzed. The study was approved by the ethics committee.Results: The intensity of severity of health behavior and satisfaction with life of T2DM patients depends on the gender of the patient (P<0.05. As advanced PAP therapy modes (ie, auto-bilevel PAP [ABPAP] or adaptive servo-ventilation [ASV] may address these side effects, we hypothesized such treatment would be associated with decreased expiratory intolerance and increased adherence in posttraumatic stress patients with co-occurring OSA.Methods: We reviewed charts of 147 consecutive adult patients with moderately severe posttraumatic stress symptoms and objectively diagnosed OSA. All patients failed or rejected CPAP and were manually titrated on auto-adjusting, dual-pressure ABPAP or ASV modes in the sleep laboratory, a technique to eliminate flow limitation breathing events while resolving EPI. Patients were then prescribed either mode of therapy. Follow-up encounters assessed patient use, and objective data downloads (ODDs measured adherence.Results: Of 147 charts reviewed, 130 patients were deemed current PAP users, and 102 provided ODDs: 64 used ASV and 38 used ABPAP. ODDs yielded three groups: 59 adherent per insurance conventions, 19 subthreshold compliant partial users, and 24 noncompliant. Compliance based on available downloads was 58%, notably higher than recently reported rates in PTSD patients with OSA. Frailty status was defined as the presence of three or more out of five of the following criteria: unintentional weight loss, weakness, self-reported fatigue, slow walking speed, and low physical activity level. The ascertained CVD risk factors were self-reported and/or directly measured hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, waist circumference ­measurement, and smoking.Results: Of the 761 participants, 9.7% were characterized as frail, 48.0% as pre-frail, and 42.3% as non-frail. The most prevalent CVD risk factor was hypertension (84.4% and the lowest one was smoking (10.4%. It was observed that among those participants with four or five risk factors there was a higher proportion of frail and pre-frail compared with non-frail (Fisher’s exact test: P=0.005; P=0.021. The prognostic significance of NLR and PLT in cancer was demonstrated in many studies while the role of RDW has been hardly investigated. The present study aimed to assess the association of RDW, NLR, and PLT with survival and tumor grade in glioma patients. Methods: Clinical data from 178 patients with primary gliomas treated in a single institution were retrospectively analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic curves for cutoff value determination, Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, various bivariate tests, and univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed. Results: Patients with high RDW (≥13.95 and NLR (≥4 levels had worse overall survival (OS (Wilcoxon test, P<0.026 and P<0.003, respectively while the effect of thrombocytosis (≥400×109/L on prognosis was not significant. Besides, a strong association between RDW and NLR was found (Spearman’s rho =0.230, P<0.02; χ2=8.887, P<0.03; Mann–Whitney U-test, P<0.017. Full Text Available Abstract Background In 2009, Santa Isabel Province in the Solomon Islands embarked on a malaria elimination programme. However, very little is known in the Province about the anopheline fauna, which species are vectors, their bionomics and how they may respond to intensified intervention measures. The purpose of this study was to provide baseline data on the malaria vectors and to ascertain the possibility of successfully eliminating malaria using the existing conventional vector control measures, such as indoor residual spraying (IRS and long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLIN. Methods Entomological surveys were undertaken during October 2009. To determine species composition and distribution larval surveys were conducted across on the whole island. For malaria transmission studies, adult anophelines were sampled using human landing catches from two villages - one coastal and one inland. Results Five Anopheles species were found on Santa Isabel: Anopheles farauti, Anopheles hinesorum, Anopheles lungae, Anopheles solomonis, and Anopheles nataliae. Anopheles hinesorum was the most widespread species. Anopheles farauti was abundant, but found only on the coast. Anopheles punctulatus and Anopheles koliensis were not found. Anopheles farauti was the only species found biting in the coastal village, it was incriminated as a vector in this study; it fed early in the night but equally so indoors and outdoors, and had a low survival rate. Anopheles solomonis was the main species biting humans in the inland village, it was extremely exophagic, with low survival rates, and readily fed on pigs. Conclusion The disappearance of the two major vectors, An. punctulatus and An. koliensis, from Santa Isabel and the predominance of An. hinesorum, a non-vector species may facilitate malaria elimination measures. In the case of prehospital or early hospital conditions when factors such as urgency, stress, or inaccuracy of the undertaken activities are involved, the risk of causing complications, for instance, edema or postintubation injuries, increases, especially while dealing with a difficult intubation. The risk of improper inflation of the endotracheal tube cuff also increases, which is considered in this study.Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of postintubation complications, such as postintubation injuries or edema, in a research sample, and to examine whether such complications occur more often, for example, while using a guidewire. In this study, we also evaluated the injuries associated with the inflation of the endotracheal tube cuff.Materials and methods: This study was performed on a group of 153 patients intubated in prehospital conditions. The tests were carried out in three clinical sites that received patients from prehospital care. Postintubation injuries were revealed and photographed using videolaryngoscope, such as the C-MAC and the McGrath series 5. The endotracheal tube cuff pressure was measured using a pressure gage manual (VBM Medizintechnik GmbH. The uncertainty relations for photon quadratures were also checked for the thermal photon state using experimental values of optical tomograms and avoiding the reconstruction procedure of the Wigner function and its associated precision constrains. In the tomographic-probability representation of quantum mechanics and quantum optics, tomograms are used for the description of quantum states as an alternative to the wave function and density matrix. The purity, fidelity, entropy and photon temperature associated with quantum states are expressed in terms of tomograms. This provides the possibility of measuring these characteristics directly by taking optical tomograms and checking basic inequalities like entropic uncertainty relations, temperature-dependent quadrature uncertainty relations, etc. The better understanding that quantum states can be identified with measurable probability distributions like optical tomograms opens new prospects in quantum optics, for example, to check experimentally the uncertainty relations for higher quadrature momenta and to control the precision with which the fundamental inequalities of quantum mechanics are experimentally confirmed. This Topical Issue is a collection of papers presented at the 17th Central European Workshops on Quantum Optics (CEWQO10) held at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK, 6-11 June 2010. The other collaborators from different scientific centers who could not, due to different reasons, come to St Andrews but participated in the previous CEWQOs and plan to participate in future CEWQOs also contributed to this issue. This retrospective study examined dual pressure, autoadjusting PAP modes in chronic, complex insomnia disorder patients.Patients and methods: Chronic insomnia disorder patients (mean [SD] insomnia severity index [ISI] =19.11 [3.34] objectively diagnosed with OSA or UARS and using either autobilevel PAP device or adaptive servoventilation (ASV device after failing CPAP therapy (frequently due to intolerance to pressurized air, poor outcomes, or emergence of CSA were divided into PAP users (≥20 h/wk and partial users (<20 h/wk for comparison. Previous studies have shown that gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3 nanoparticles generate higher relaxivity than currently available Gd chelates: In addition, the Gd2O3 nanoparticles have promising properties for MRI cell tracking. The aim of the present work was to study cell labeling with Gd2O3 nanoparticles in hematopoietic cells and to improve techniques for monitoring hematopoietic stem cell migration by MRI. Particle uptake was studied in two cell lines: the hematopoietic progenitor cell line Ba/F3 and the monocytic cell line THP-1. Cells were incubated with Gd2O3 nanoparticles and it was investigated whether the transfection agent protamine sulfate increased the particle uptake. Treated cells were examined by electron microscopy and MRI, and analyzed for particle content by inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry. Results showed that particles were intracellular, however, sparsely in Ba/F3. The relaxation times were shortened with increasing particle concentration. There are significant differences for single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP frequency. Materials and methods: We studied the peculiarities of P450 cytochrome polymorphisms, SLCO1B1 transporting protein, and P-glycoprotein carriage in healthy volunteers in the Nanai ethnic group living in Russia, and compared them to the carriage of SNPs in the Russian population according to literature data. Results: After performing the real-time polymerase chain reactions on the samples from 70 healthy volunteers from the Nanai group, for the CYP2C9*2C430T polymorphism we determined 70 CC-genotype carriers. As for the CYP2C9*3A1075C polymorphism, we found 62 AA-genotype carriers and eight AC-genotype carriers. For the CYP2C19*2G681A polymorphism, we determined 39 GG-genotype carriers and 28 GA-genotype carriers, for the CYP2C19*3G636A polymorphism 58 GG-genotype carriers and 12 GA-genotype carriers, and for the CYP2C19*17C806T polymorphism 67 CC-genotype carriers and three CT-genotype carriers. However, immunosuppressants are essential for the long-term survival of kidney grafts and patients’ non-adherence to their medication leads to poor outcomes. Immunosuppressants can also significantly alter patients’ HRQoL because of their side effects and the complex chronic medication regimen they represent. Purpose: To elicit key concepts related to adherence to immunosuppressant therapy (IT and reasons for non-adherence in terms of patient reported outcomes, side effects, and the impact of the medication on HRQoL in RT population, including patient preference of once daily over twice-daily immunosuppressive regimen. Results were used to develop an IT-specific conceptual framework and provide suggestions for improving patients’ adherence to IT. Materials and methods: Interviews were conducted with three clinical experts to determine key concepts related to RT and immunosuppressants. Thirty-seven participants in four focus groups were asked to cite important concepts related to adherence and impact of IT on HRQoL and to rate them. Qualitative analysis was conducted to code participants’ responses. Results: Non-adherence among participants where admitted was unintentional. The reason for this included forgetfulness, interference with lifestyle, being asleep at the time the medication should be taken, change in routine, and impact of side effects. Full Text Available Comunicarea face referire la integrarea mijloacelor, tehnologiilor informaţionale şi comunicaţionale (TIC în cadrul procesului de formare a competenţelor specifice la istorie, ca practică de succes în activitatea mea ca profesor de istorie şi educaţie civică. Drept argument pentru această preocupare este Recomandarea Consiliului Europei cu privire la pre­darea istoriei în secolul XXI, despre creşterea accesului tinerilor la tehnologiile informaţionale şi comuni­ca­ţionale atât la şcoală, cât şi în afara orelor de curs, despre necesitatea formării unui individ competitiv în societatea informaţională. În acest scop, pentru desfăşurarea orelor de istorie, profesorul dispune de mijloace TIC, cu ajutorul cărora realizează şi valorifică o bancă informţională ce conţine resurse didactice integrate în cadrul situaţiilor didactice şi ele­mentelor de conţinut disciplinar.S-a constatat, în urma unor evaluări şi sondaje, că utilizarea materialelor multimedia la ora de istorie a dus la obţine­rea unor câştiguri educaţionale: sunt consolidate abilităţile de cercetare şi capacităţile intelectuale, sporesc cunoştinţele şi abilităţile în utilizarea tehnologiei informaţiei, creşte interesul şi angajarea elevilor în procesul educaţional.Se menţionează existenţa unor limite ale posibilităţilor de utilizare TIC ce nu pot fi depăşite decât prin menţinerea unui rol important al profesorului în achiziţia, prelucrarea şi utilizarea informaţiilor, în acţiunea de formare a deprinde­rilor şi abilităţilor practice. Cieszyński 1, 10-726 Olsztyn e-mail: natalia.mikolajczak@uwm.edu.pl   Streszczenie   Wprowadzenie i cel pracy: Orzechy stanowią cenną grupę żywności pod względem wartości żywieniowej, dlatego też są jednym z głównych składników wykorzystywanych w produkcji mieszanek studenckich. Obecność orzechów w codziennej diecie konsumenta ma pozytywny wpływ na organizm poprzez redukcję poziomu cholesterolu we krwi, przeciwdziałanie nowotworom i cukrzycy czy również wspomaganie utraty masy ciała. Wszystkie te korzyści wynikają ze składu chemicznego orzechów i obecności w nich wielu wartościowych składników odżywczych, w szczególności składników mineralnych. Celem pracy był przegląd aktualnego piśmiennictwa na temat zawartości poszczególnych składników mineralnych w orzechach, będących składnikami tradycyjnych mieszanek studenckich, czyli laskowych, włoskich, arachidowych, nerkowcach oraz migdałach. Skrócony opis stanu wiedzy: Orzechy to cenne źródło składników mineralnych, zarówno mikro, jak i makroelementów. Przede wszystkim, orzechy laskowe, włoskie, arachidowe oraz migdały dostarczają znacznych ilości potasu, którego zawartość w 100 g surowca odnotowuje się na poziomie wyższym niż 500 mg. Z kolei zawartość fosforu obecna jest na zbliżonym poziomie jedynie w migdałach. Mikroelementy takie jak żelazo, miedź, cynk i mangan występują we wszystkich orzechach w ilości 5-10 mg/100 g. Podsumowanie: Zebrane dane literaturowe potwierdzają fakt, że analizowane rodzaje orzechów są cennym źródłem zarówno mikro, jak i makroelementów. Są one bogactwem potasu, fosforu, magnezu oraz wapnia. Ponadto, dostarczają także znacznych ilości żelaza, cynku oraz manganu.   Słowa kluczowe: składniki mineralne, orzechy laskowe, orzechy

The 12th International Symposium on Continuum Models and Discrete Systems (CMDS-12) (http://www.saha.ac.in/cmp/cmds.12/) took place at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kolkata from 21-25 February 2011. Previous CMDS symposia were held in Kielce (Poland, 1975), Mont Gabriel (Canada, 1977), Freudenstadt (Federal Republic of Germany, 1979), Stockholm (Sweden, 1981), Nottingham (United Kingdom, 1985), Dijon (France, 1989), Paderborn (Germany, 1992), Varna (Bulgaria, 1995), Istanbul (Turkey, 1998), Shoresh (Israel, 2003) and Paris (France, 2007). The broad interdisciplinary character, limited number of participants (not exceeding 100) and informal and friendly atmosphere of these meetings has made them a well-acknowledged place to make highly fruitful contacts and exchange ideas, methods and results. The Elements of Political Satire in the Spring Carnival Performances of Romanian Banat. In Romanian territory the tradition of spring carnival festivities has relatively limited distribution. The word faşanc (also faşang, fărşanc, farşang meaning “carnival” is the most frequently used by the inhabitants of the Highland Banat, namely of the Caraș-Severin County in the extreme South-West of Romania and understood by residents of entire Romanian Banat as well as the Romanian population of the Serbian Banat. Being a practice with limited geographical distribution in Romanian traditional culture, the faşanc at the same time forms the continuity between traditional Western Europe cultures, in particular of the Catholic Europe. In prayer no. 86 the praise refers not only to the significance of St. Mary as the Mother of God, but to her purely feminine and maternal functions and her role of a participant and witness to the life and passion of Christ. They find their equivalents in Marian and Christological artistic series of the time. One of them is a series of scenes on the wooden door of the church Sankta Maria im Kapitol in Cologne, made ca 1050. The church was rebuilt by abbotess Ida, one of Gertrude’s aunts, who also funded the door. In this church Gertrude’s mother, Richeza, was buried. Gertrude could see the door during her stay in Rhineland in the years 1075-1076. A number o f depictions are included in miniatures in the manuscripts from the Ottonian epoch, e.g. a Scripture-Book of abbotess Hitda of Meschede from ca 1020, with an Annunciation scene. Gertrude knew a different presentation o f this scene from monumental mosaics in Kiev. The maternity o f St. Mary was presented in many different types of the Nativity. An exceptionally extended depiction in the eastern spirit, including a reference to apocryphal texts, is shown in one o f the Codex’ miniatures. Prayer no. 86 in its Polish, slightly transformed version appeared after several centuries in the so-called Nawojka’s Prayer Book, which most probably belonged to Natalia Bninska, nee Koniecpolska (ca 1463-1531 in a manuscript from the end of the 15th century. The manuscript was lost and today is known from a copy made in the first half of the 19th century, including a copy of the old silver cover - a box from the 17th century. According to the inscription on the box it was supposed to be St. Jadwiga, Duchess of Silesia’s (ca 1178-1243 collection of prayers; a tradition which was immediately questioned. Las expulsiones de extranjeros por Roger Pita Pico, la mujer y los negocios en la ciudad de Barranquilla por Tomás Caballero Truyol, el impacto del certificado médico prenupcial de las nuevas familias en Antioquia por Natalia María Gutiérrez Urquijo, y la manumisión de esclavos por compra y gracia en esa región por Karen Mejía Velásquez y Luis Miguel Córdoba Ochoa, constituyen los principales aportes. Оksana Maksymiuk, Natalia Maksymiuk. Functional and semantic parameters of the refusal communicative act in Ukrainian literary discourse. The article is dedicated to the communicative act. The communicative act is defined as concep- tually and structurally organized exchange of communicative acti- vities of speakers with in the verbal contact, in which the basic meaning is a discourse that relies on a certain situation. So the research of refusal communicative acts becomes urgent because they are inelienable components of everyday speech and they operate on the field of noncooperative verbal interaction and also the analysis of semantical, pragmatical and discussional peculiarities. Semantic and pragmatic aspects of research involves the descrip- tion of refusal communicative acts from the viewpoint of the theory of speech genres and the theory of speech acts. Cognitive and communicative-pragmatic aspects are harmoniously combined and focused in the structure of the «linguistic identity» notion. Having analysed precisely the internal structure of the comm- unicative act we can make the conclusions that refusal acts as polyillocutiv items by its nature show broad functional variability of speaker’s intention. The dominating component of the content or the method of its transfer the illocutive means are combined in acts of assertion and direction of the pragmatic space of interaction.
