Netware-Specific Network Security.

Science.gov (United States)

This paper focuses on practical and cost-effective NetWare-specific approaches to information systems and computer security. A series of real world experiences is presented that illustrate fundamental information systems and security concepts. A NetWare network is a client-server network which uses a file server to share files while client workstations access the file server via some network typology (usually ethernet or token ring). Passwords are used to authenticate users; thus, password protection is a cornerstone of network security. Passwords can be encrypted, but this feature can be disabled. The bindery, which stores information about users, groups, and printers, is critical to the network and must be backed up. Trade secrets can be hidden from users by restructuring menus. Login scripts should be protected and not used for security purposes. Guest account access should be restricted or removed. Finally, the "security.exe" program can ...

Chemical and physical change of packaging materials for food by gamma-ray irradiation

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

Recently, foods are often exposed to radiation under packed states with various wrapping materials. In this study, the effects of #gamma#-ray radiation were investigated on the additives in wrapping materials on the market. 10 - 50 kGy #gamma# radiation was irradiated to samples under sealed condition in a glass-ware. Polyethylene bag and wrapping film, polypropylene wrapping film, cup and sheet, and polystyrene cup were used as samples. And the additives in these materials were analyzed by GC/MS to evaluate the radiation effects on them. The irradiation was found to induce rapid degradation of antioxidants, especially, Irgafos 168. Some fatty acid amides used as a lubricant and a plasticizer, DBP were also reduced, but not aliphatic hydrocarbons. However, all polystyrene products used in this study included no additives. The contents of styrene dimer and trimer in those wrapping materials were not changed by #gamma#-irradiation. (M.N.)

Effect of surface treatemnts on stress corrosion cracking of alloy 800 in alkaline solutions. Alloy 800 no alkaline yoekichu no ouryoku fushoku ware ni oyobosu hyomenkako no eikyo

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Effect of the coverage of shot peening, the surface roughness and shot shape, etc. on the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of Alloy 800 in alkaline solutions was studied. Alloy 800 specimens were cracked in boiling alkaline solutions at the potntial range of {minus} 100 to 0mV in the boiling 50%NaOH+0.3%SiO {sub 2} solution. U bend specimens were tested under the polarized condition at the controlled potential to 0mV, showing that shot peened specimens cracked more easily. Tests of specimens with the same hardness showed that specimens hardened by cold working showed the higher susceptivity than that of surface hardened specimens. In these connections, U bend specimens of higher shot peened coverage were cracked at conditions of 593K and 10%NaOH solution. O-ring specimens of smaller stress level did not show any cracks independent of surface treatments. 8 refs., 9 figs., 5 tabs.

The economic geology of clays/shales raw materials for the ceramics industry in Lebanon

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

Author.Field, laboratory and market studies are a must for proper evaluation of natural resources for the mineral industry of lebanon. Sites selectively convenient to the existing major Lebanese ceramics industry centered in the Beqa'a region, were investigated as to their geology, geography and economic character. The raw materials are shales, mud stones, siltstones and other argillaceous rocks of Jurassic to Cretaceous age coming from selective sites in south and central Lebanon. The finished products include wall, floor, roofing tiles, pipes, sanitary ware, pottery and brick specimens. Differential thermal analysis, scanning electron microscopy, firing and physico-chemical tests and analyses characterized the raw materials into two major groups: the suitable are siliceous argillaceous rocks and unsuitable calcareous argillaceous rocks. The suitable group is divided into two varieties. The first is dominantly a disordered Kaolinite with low drying and firing ...

Investigations into the behaviour of chlorohydrocarbons with a view to thermal waste processing; Verhalten von Chlorkohlenwasserstoffen in Hinsicht auf die thermische Muellverwertung

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Pyrolysis and combustion of CH are investigated. In order to reduce the work required for the present combination of parameters, the following substances were selected: Hexachloroethane, hexachlorocyclohexane, hexachlorobenzene and hexachlorophene. The model substances were pyrolyzed or combusted in varying conditions, and the combustion or pyrolysis products were analyzed. Only the main products were of interest; trace components are important only as far as they may throw light on the reaction mechanisms. The furnace design resulted in incomplete combustion and pyrolysis reactions, so that products of all stages of combusition or pyrolysis were available for analysis. Reaction processes can be derived from the products. As an alternative to thermal treatment of refuse, biological degradation of chlorinated hydrocarbons was gone into. The efficiency of decomposition by microorganisms was to be compared with the efficiency of thermal destruction of chlorohydrocarbons. The ...
