Analysis and assay of flavonoid content in the vegetative and reproductive organs of the showy tick trefoil

British Library Electronic Table of Contents (United Kingdom)

We report here a many-year study of the qualitative and quantitative content of flavonoids in the reproductive organs of the showy tick trefoil (Desmodium canadense (L.) DC., Fabaceae) - stems, leaves, buds, inflorescences, pods, and seeds - collected at different phases of growth at the Department of Medicinal Plants, Kaunas Botanical Garden, Vytautas Magnus University. HPLC studies identified 15 aglycone and glycoside flavonoids: apigenin, apigenin-7-O-glycoside, luteolin, rutin, vicenin-2, vitexin, isovitexin, vitexin rhamnoside, orientin, homoorientin, quercetrin, quercetin, hyperoside, astralagin, and kaempferol. The largest quantities of flavonoids in the vegetative organs from year 2 to year 4 of plant growth were present in the leaves (2.64% and 2.61% at budding and flowering in the...

Formation and stability of astatide-mercury complexes

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

The formation of astatide-mercury complexes was investigated in aqueous solutions. The obtained complexes were examined by paper electrophoresis. It was found that Hg(OH)At and Hg(OH)I complexes were formed in neutral solution. The stability constants of the obtained complexes were determined by ion-exchange. The preliminary results indicate that the complex of mercury with astatide is much more stable than similar complexes with iodide. (author)

Approximate convolution with pairs of cubic B?zier LN curves

British Library Electronic Table of Contents (United Kingdom)

In this paper we present an approximation method for the convolution of two planar curves using pairs of compatible cubic B?zier curves with linear normals (LN). We characterize the necessary and sufficient conditions for two compatible cubic B?zier LN curves with the same linear normal map to exist. Using this characterization, we obtain the cubic spline approximation of the convolution curve. As illustration, we apply our method to the approximation of a font where the letters are constructed as the Minkowski sum of two planar curves. We also present numerical results using our approximation method for offset curves and compare our method to previous results.

PICTURE: an interactive tool for creating visual aids. Reference manual, version 2. 0

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

The PICTURE utility generates user defined pictures with black-and-white or color output, suitable for viewgraphs, slides, report diagrams - in general, any application requiring visual aids. The interactive menu-driven system allows a user to create a picture consisting of text, straight lines, graphs, and assortment of markers, splines and drawings, all in a variety of colors. Commands for manipulating the picture include moving, scaling, rotating, deleting, copying and changing the color of objects. Text strings may be aligned left, right, or centered, and have a vertical or horizontal path. Markers, circles and the large bold font may be filled or unfilled. The user may add or delete one of two overlay grids for help in positioning items. The final product may be saved in a text file for later retrieval. PICTURE currently runs on a VAX 11/780 with the DI-3000 commercial graphics package. Supported graphics devices include Ramtek 9400 and Metheus 440 frame ...

Geothermal energy in Italy and abroad; La geotermia in Italia e all'estero

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Geothermal systems and fields are analysed giving particular evidence to the value of the geothermal source as an important natural source of energy. The paper analyses hydrothermal systems and describes the international experimental studies on the use of geothermal reservoirs in hot rocks with geopressured and magmatic systems. Experts are optimistic as far as the use of this innovative source of energy is possible in the medium-short term.

Design of spacecraft thermal control materials on polyimide film; Polyimide film ni yoru uchuyo netsuseigyo zairyo no kaihatsu

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Two types of thermal control materials based on polyimide film UPILEX-R are designed. One of thermal control material R/Al is coated with Al on the back surface. The other of thermal control material TCC/R/Al is coated with transparent conductive coating on the font surface and is coated with Al on the balk surface. The solar absorptance is measured spectroscopically with an integrating sphere in the wavelength region of 0.26 - 2.50 {mu}m and the total hemispherical emittance is measured calorimetrically in the temperature range of -100-+100{degree}C for the present thermal control materials. To evaluate the space degradation of optical properties (refractive index, extinction coefficient, absorption coefficient) on UPILEX-R film and solar absorptance on thermal control materials, space environment simulation tests are performed on the ground with independent radiation and combined radiation by UV, electrons, and protons. An onboard simultaneous measurement ...

Contrast material extravasation following upper abdominal trauma. Detection with helical Computerized Tomography; Stravaso del mezzo di contrasto nei traumi dell'addome superiore. Riconoscimento con Tomografia Computerizzata spirale

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Active contrast material extravasation can be recognized with conventional CT scanners, though it has been considered a rare finding. Helical CT seems to increase the detection rate and especially to boost the radiologist's confidence in this diagnosis. Though active bleeding is defined in severely-injured subjects requiring urgent intervention and may be associated with findings of hypovolaemic shock, it should not be considered itself as a negative prognostic factor. Contrast extravasation is due to ongoing hemorrhage and its detection is critical for urged treatment. Accurate anatomical location permits to choose surgical management or transcatheter embolization and thus decreases time consumption for precis e bleeding site identification. [Italian] Lo stravaso attivo del mdc e' rilevabile anche con appropriate apparecchiature TC tradizionali, sebbene sia stato considerato raro. La TC sprirale sembra aumentare la frequanza del riconoscimento e soprattutto la ...
