One-loop Helicity Amplitudes for Top Quark Pair Production in Randall-Sundrum Model

CERN Document Server

In this paper, we show how to calculate analytically the one-loop helicity amplitudes for the process $q\\bar{q} rightarrow t\\bar{t}$ induced by KK gluon, using the spinor-helicity formalism. A minimal set of Feynman rules which are uniquely fixed by gauge invariance and the color representation of the KK gluon are derived and used in the calculation. Our results can be applied to a variety of models containing a massive color octet vector boson.

Measurement of the K?/K? ratio for muon alpha sticking X-rays in muon catalyzed d-t fusion at the RIKEN-RAL Muon Facility

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

At the RIKEN-RAL Muon Facility, ?- to ? sticking K? X-rays were observed for the first time taking advantage of the pulsed beam structure. The precision of the present measurements was insufficient to distinguish between theoretical models, however the observed K?/K? X-ray intensity ratio tends to be smaller than most of these theoretical predictions.

Glueball Mass Spectrum in KK Monopole Background

CERN Document Server

We consider typeIIA supergravity solution of D2-branes and D3-branes localized within D6-branes in the near-core region of D6-branes. With these solutions we can calculate the spectrum of the glueball mass in QCD3 and QCD4. The equation of motion describing the dilaton has the same eigenvalues and the same glueball masses in QCD3 and QCD4. Glueball mass spectrum is the same in the near core region of D6-branes of their M-theory counterpart is KK monopole. We conclude that the glueball mass spectrum is the same in QCD3 and QCD4 by considering the `near-core' limit of D6-branes of which M-theory counterpart (KK monopole background) becomes an ALE space with an $A_{N-1}$ singularity times 7 dimensional Minkowski space $M^{(6,1)}$.

Kaluza-Klein Effects on Higgs Physics in Universal Extra Dimensions

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

We examine the virtual effects of Kaluza-Klein (KK) states on Higgs physics in universal extra dimension models. We study the partial widths {Lambda}{sub h{yields}gg}, {Lambda}{sub h{yields}{gamma}{gamma}}, and {Lambda}{sub h{yields}{gamma}Z}, which are relevant for Higgs production and detection in future collider experiments. These interactions occur at one loop in the Standard Model, as do the KK contributions. We find that the deviations induced by the KK exchanges can be significant; for one extra dimension, the gg {yields} h production rate is increased by 10% - 85% for the mass of the first KK state in the range 500 {approx}> m{sub 1} {approx}> 1500 GeV, a region untested by current direct search and precision measurement constraints. The h {yields} {gamma}{gamma} decay width is decreased by {approx}< 20% in the same mass range. For two or more universal extra dimensions the ...

Theoretical magnon dispersion curves for Gd

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

The magnon dispersion curve of Gd metal has been determined from first principles by use of augmented-plane-wave energy bands and wave functions. The exchange matrix elements I (k,k') between the 4f electrons and the conduction electrons from the first six energy bands were calculated under the assumption of an unscreened Coulomb interaction. The results are in good overall agreement with experiment provided the I (k,k') are diminished by a constant scale factor of about 2 which may be caused by screening.

Is X(1812) a $(K^*\\bar K^*)$ Molecular State?

CERN Document Server

We investigate the possibility of producing the $\\omega\\phi$ threshold enhancement recently observed in the $J\\psi\\to\\gamma X(1812),~X(1812)\\to\\omega\\phi$ at BES by assuming the X(1812) to be a candidate of $(K^{*}\\bar K^{*0})$ molecular state. We evaluate the decay rate of $X(1812)\\to\\eta\\eta', \\eta\\eta, \\omega\\phi, K^+K^-, \\rho^+\\rho^-$, $\\omega\\omega, K^{*+}K^{*-}$ and $\\pi^+\\pi^-$ based on the X(1812) to be a candidate of $(\\ksks)$ molecule. It turns out the X(1812) dominantly decays into $\\eta\\eta'$ and $\\eta\\eta$. These channels are suggested to be the laboratory to test the molecular scenario in experiment. We also evaluate the branching fraction $Br(X\\to\\omega\\phi)\\simeq 4.60%$. However, the X(1812) has small branching fractions to decay into other $VV$ or $PP$ final states, from which it seems to be consistent with the experimental observation. In the molecular scenario, the X(1812) production rate is ...

Quantitative bone scintigraphy in patients with osteoporosis

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

Quantitative bone scans were evaluated in 16 patients with osteoporosis and in a control group of 7 healthy subjects. Along with a detailed biochemical analysis of calcium-phosphorus metabolism and standartized reongenographs, a quantitative dynamic bone scintigraphy was performed according to the method proposed by the authors. The bone-accumulating factor K_b was determined on the base of mathematical analysis of the graph reflecting activity changes in bone tissue unit during the investigation, the blood-elimination factor K_h and kidney-elimination factor K_k. In addition the accumulation index AI (in %) was calculated as a relation between the activity in bone tissue unit, registered in 20 min interval, and the activity in soft tissues for the same time. Whereas the static gamma camera scintigraphy, made 3-4 hrs after injecting of the osteotrope radiopharmaceuticals, showed no specific changes in the patients examined, the method proposed realised higher K_b ...

Measurement of \\chi_cJ--> K+K-K+K-

CERN Document Server

Using 14M psi(2S) events taken with the BES-II detector, chi_cJ-->K+K-K+K- decays are studied. For the four-kaon final state, the branching fractions are B(chi_c0,1,2 -->K+K-K+K-)=(3.47\\pm 0.22\\pm 0.48)\\times 10^{-3}, (0.68\\pm 0.13\\pm 0.10)\\times 10^{-3}, and (1.88\\pm 0.18\\pm 0.28)\\times 10^{-3}. For the \\phi K+K- final state, the branching fractions, which are measured for the first time, are B(chi_c0,1,2-->\\phi K+K-)=(1.02\\pm 0.22\\pm 0.15)\\times 10^{-3}, (0.44\\pm 0.14\\pm 0.07)\\times 10^{-3}, and (1.46\\pm 0.21\\pm 0.22)\\times 10^{-4}. For the \\phi\\phi final state, B(chi_{c0,2}-->\\phi\\phi)=(0.94\\pm 0.21\\pm 0.14)\\times 10^{-3} and (1.48\\pm 0.26\\pm 0.23)\\times 10^{-3}.

Measurement of $\\phi$(1020) meson leptonic width with CMD-2 detector at VEPP-2M Collider

CERN Document Server

The $\\phi$(1020) meson leptonic width has been determined from the combined analysis of 4 major decay modes of the resonance ($\\phi\\to K^+ K^-,K^0_LK^0_S,\\pi^+\\pi^-\\pi^0,\\eta\\gamma$) studied with the CMD-2 detector at the VEPP-2M $e^+e^-$ collider. The following value has been obtained: $\\Gamma(\\phi\\to e^+e^-) = 1.235\\pm 0.006\\pm 0.022$ keV. The $\\phi(1020)$ meson parameters in four main decay channels have been also recalculated: $B(\\phi\\to K^+K^-) = 0.493\\pm 0.003\\pm 0.007$, $B(\\phi\\to K_LK_S) = 0.336\\pm 0.002\\pm 0.006$, $B(\\phi\\to\\pi^+\\pi^-\\pi^0) = 0.155\\pm 0.002\\pm 0.005$, $B(\\phi\\to\\eta\\gamma) = 0.0138\\pm 0.0002\\pm 0.0002$.

Sulzer RTA dual-fuel engine - natural gas instead of diesel oil

Energy Technology Data Exchange (ETDEWEB)

Testbed trials of the Sulzer RTA84 dual-fuel engine were successfully completed at the IHI Aioi engine works (Japan) in April 1986. This newly-developed engine, output range 15 to 40 MW, can be operated with both diesel or heavy oil and methane gas at comparable thermal efficiency and unchanged output. The RTA dual-fuel engine was developed in close collaboration between Sulzer Brothers Limited, Switzerland and its Japanese licensees Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (IHI), Nippon Kokan KK (NKK) and Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd. (SHI). Intended for the propulsion of LNG carriers, where the boil-off gas from the ship's cargo is exploited or for the generation of electricity in stationary plants, the RTA dual-fuel engine is an economic and reliable alternative to the steam or gas turbines.

Radiographic features of Ewing's sarcoma of the bones of the hands and feet

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

The radiographic features of Ewing's sarcoma of the bones of the hands and feet are reviewed utilizing cases obtained from the Mayo Clinic patient files and the consultation files of Drs. D.C. Dahlin and K.K. Unni. This series consists of a total of 43 cases of pathologically proven Ewing's sarcoma involving the small bones of the hands and feet. The classic radiographic features of Ewing's sarcoma in the long bones, including lytic, permeative destruction, aggressive periosteal reaction, cortical violation, and a soft tissue mass, are also seen in the bones of the hands and feet, with similar frequency. These classic features are most commonly present in lesions affecting the short tubular bones. Lesions affecting the tarsal bones more often demonstrate atypical radiographic features. These atypical radiographic appearances may play a role in the reported delay in diagnosis of Ewing's sarcoma within the tarsal bones. (orig.)

Kramers-Kronig Analysis of Infrared Reflectance Spectra for Quaternary In_xAl_yGa_1_-_x_-_yN Alloy

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

In this paper, a Kramers-Kronig (KK) analysis of infrared (IR) reflectance spectrum of quaternary In_0_._0_1Al_0_._0_6Ga_0_._9_3N film grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is reported. The infrared measurement is performed in the reflection mode at an incident angle of 15 degree sign by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy at T = 300 K. The Kramers-Kronig analysis of the reflectivity data has been used to obtain the real and imaginary parts of the index of refraction (n and k), and the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric response function (#epsilon#' and #epsilon#') of the materials. Finally, the transverse optical and longitudinal optical phonons for quaternary In_xAl_yGa_1_-_x_-_yN were obtained.

First observation of psi(2S)-->K_S K_L

CERN Document Server

The decay psi(2S)-->K_S K_L is observed for the first time using psi(2S) data collected with the Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC); the branching ratio is determined to be B(psi(2S)-->K_S K_L) = (5.24\\pm 0.47 \\pm 0.48)\\times 10^{-5}. Compared with J/psi-->K_S K_L, the psi(2S) branching ratio is enhanced relative to the prediction of the perturbative QCD ``12%'' rule. The result, together with the branching ratios of psi(2S) decays to other pseudoscalar meson pairs (\\pi^+\\pi^- and K^+K^-), is used to investigate the relative phase between the three-gluon and the one-photon annihilation amplitudes of psi(2S) decays.

Dislocation-enhanced hydrogen solubilities in Pd-Ni, Pd-Ag and Pd-Ni-Ag alloys

Science.gov (United States)

The purpose of this communication is to determine whether the solubility enhancements for cold-worked Pd-Ni alloys increase or decrease with atom fraction of Ni. Substitutional Ni atoms contract and Pd lattice, in contrast to the lattice expansion resulting from substitutional Ag in Pd. The Pd-Ni alloy system forms a continuous series of fcc solid solution alloys over the whole composition range. The solubility enhancements will also be determined for a series of homogeneous, ternary Pd[sub 1[minus]x]Ni[sub 1/2x]Ag[sub 1/2x] alloys for x in the range from 0 to 0.2. For this series of ternary alloys the fcc lattice parameters do not change significantly from that of pure Pd. The alloys used in this research were purchased from Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo K.K. The detailed experimental procedure has been described previously. The alloys were all deformed by cold-rolling ca 90%. Both the binary and ternary alloys showed only single sets of fcc lattice parameters ...

Investigation by XRF and XRD of Zn and Fe in Fex Zn1-x thin films

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

FexZn1-x alloys were electrochemically deposited on aluminum substrates from a sulfate bath. The K?/K? x-ray intensity ratios of Zn and Fe in FexZn1-x thin films have been experimentally studied. The energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique was used to measure K x-ray photons. Samples were excited by using 59.5 keV photons emitted by a 50 mCi 241Am radioactive source. The emitted K x-rays were detected by an Ultra-LEGe detector having a resolution of 150 eV at 5.9 keV. In addition, the effect of bath composition on the phase structure was investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The composition of the thin films was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry analysis. Iron content was shown to strongly affect the structure of Zn-Fe alloys. It was found that the K-shell x-ray intensity ratio changed in FexZn1-x thin films for different values of x. The reason for this change may be that the electronegativity of iron is higher than that of zinc ...

Fluxes of H+ and K+ in corn roots

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

We report here on an experimental system that utilizes ion-selective microelectrodes to measure the electrochemical potential gradients for H"+ and K"+ ions within the unstirred layer near the root surface of both tact 4-day-old corn seedlings and corn root segments. Analysis of the steady state H"+ and K"+ electrochemical potential gradients provided a simultaneous measure of the fluxes crossing a localized region of the root surface. Net K"+ influx values obtained by this method were compared with unidirectional K"+ ("8"6Rb"+) influx kinetic data; at any particular K"+ concentration, similar values were obtained by either technique. The ion-specific microelectrode system was then used to investigate the association between net H"+ efflux and net K"+ influx. Although the computed H"+K"+ stoichiometry is dependent upon the choice of diffusion coefficients, the values obtained were extremely variable, and net K"+ influx rarely appeared to be charge-balanced by H"+ efflux. In contrast to ...

THE DOUBLE-DEGENERATE NUCLEUS OF THE PLANETARY NEBULA TS 01: A CLOSE BINARY EVOLUTION SHOWCASE

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)

We present a detailed investigation of SBS 1150+599A, a close binary star hosted by the planetary nebula PN G135.9+55.9 (TS 01). The nebula, located in the Galactic halo, is the most oxygen-poor known to date and is the only one known to harbor a double degenerate core. We present XMM-Newton observations of this object, which allowed the detection of the previously invisible component of the binary core, whose existence was inferred so far only from radial velocity (RV) and photometric variations. The parameters of the binary system were deduced from a wealth of information via three independent routes using the spectral energy distribution (from the infrared to X-rays), the light and RV curves, and a detailed model atmosphere fitting of the stellar absorption features of the optical/UV component. We find that the cool component must have a mass of 0.54 #+-# 0.2 M_s_u_n, an average effective temperature, T_e_f_f, of 58,000 #+-# 3000 K, a mean radius of 0.43 #+-# 0.3 R_s_u_n, a gravity, ...
