Design improvements and operational experience of programmable digital comparator system
International Nuclear Information System (INIS)
Application of Programmable Digital Comparator System (PDCS) in NPP is to monitor large number of plant parameters and generate contact outputs for reactor trip, reactor setback, process interlocks etc. when parameters cross their operational bounds. Till NAPS these functions are achieved through individual Indicating Alarm Meters (IAM). PDCS used for the first time in KAPS replaces these IAMs. Since its inception, PDCS has undergone improvements in design, incorporates additional functionalities/enhanced features. Dedicated PDCS is provided in TAPP-3 and 4 for protection function. System re-configurability, on-line inter channel comparison of safety critical process parameters' values, Graphic User Interface etc. are other enhancements. From KAPS to TAPP-4 system has given many years of almost trouble-free operation. Commissioning of TAPP-3 system has been very smooth. Objective of the paper is to describe the advantage of the new system, its ...

Design modifications in radiation monitoring system at Tarapur Atomic Power Station 3 and 4
International Nuclear Information System (INIS)
Inputs on radiological conditions forms the basis of implementation of effective exposure control to plant personnel in nuclear power station. Radiation monitoring system provides this input to the plant operator as well as to health physics group. Several design modifications have been incorporated in the Radiation Monitoring System at Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS 3 and 4) over the similar systems at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) and Kaiga Generating Station (KGS). The radiological monitoring systems installed at TAPS unit 3 and 4 includes on line Radiation Data Acquisition System (RADAS), Emergency sampling system, effluent monitoring system and environmental monitoring system. The design changes and the versatile use of these systems are presented in this paper. (author)

Dendrosomes as novel gene porters-III
British Library Electronic Table of Contents (United Kingdom)
BACKGROUND: It was previously reported that dendrosomes, i.e. neutral, biodegradable, covalent or self-assembled, hyperbranched, spheroidal nano-particles with a size ranging from 15 to 100 nm, provide a convenient and efficient means of gene delivery into various kinds of cells such as human hepatoma and kidney cells as well as animal models.RESULTS: New studies via circular dichroism show that hydrophilic and amphipathic dendrosomes either do not affect the DNA structure or moderately transform it from B- to A-conformation. Gene delivery into human liver, kidney, and endothelial cells as well as other animal cells like Bowes, U-937, Raw, CCRF-CEM, MOLT-4, K562, Huh-7 and VERO reveal that the genes are efficiently expressed and in comparison with other gene porters like Lipofectin or bact...

International Nuclear Information System (INIS)
Over the past few years, NPCIL has performed comprehensive Level-1 Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) for a 220 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) at Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) and for the first 540 MWe PHWR at Tarapur Atomic Power Project (TAPP- 3 and 4). The major objective of these PSAs was to present an integrated picture of the safety of the plant to identify and understand key plant vulnerabilities. As a result of the availability of these PSAs, there is a desire to use them to operate the plants in the most efficient manner practicable. In recent years, the operation of Indian Nuclear Power Plants has been characterized by improved availability/capacity factors and reduced forced outages. Frequency of planned outages is also being reduced. In order to achieve this, the PSAs are now being used as an engineering tool for optimization of Technical Specifications with regard to Allowed Outage Time (AOT) and Surveillance Test Intervals ...

Cytotoxic Naphtho--pyrones from the Mangrove Endophytic Fungus Aspergillus tubingensis (GX1-5E)
British Library Electronic Table of Contents (United Kingdom)
Abstract Four new dimeric naphtho--pyrones, named rubasperone D (1), rubasperone E (2), rubasperone F (3), and its atropisomer rubasperone G (4), together with four known monomeric naphtho--pyrones, TMC 256 A1 (5), rubrofusarin B (6), fonsecin (7), and flavasperone (8), were isolated from the mangrove endophytic fungus Aspergillus tubingensis (GX1-5E) cultivated in solid rice medium. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods, including IR, 1D- and 2D-NMR, and MS. In the in vitro cytotoxicity assays, 5 displayed inhibitory activities against tumor cell lines of MCF-7, MDA-MB-435, Hep3B, Huh7, SNB19, and U87-MG with IC50 values between 19.92 and 47.98-M. Compounds 1, 6, and 8 also showed mild cytotoxic activity.
