  1. Verifying Architectural Design Rules of the Flight Software Product Line

    This paper presents experiences of verifying architectural design rules of the NASA Core Flight Software (CFS) product line implementation. The goal of the verification is to check whether the implementation is consistent with the CFS architectural rules derived from the developer's guide. The results indicate that consistency checking helps a) identifying architecturally significant deviations that were eluded during code reviews, b) clarifying the design rules to the team, and c) assessing the overall implementation quality. Furthermore, it helps connecting business goals to architectural principles, and to the implementation. This paper is the first step in the definition of a method for analyzing and evaluating product line implementations from an architecture-centric perspective.

In space system architecting, expressing the physical locations (low-Earth orbit, low-lunar orbit, etc.) and steady states (interplanetary trajectory) as nodes and the different means of moving between the nodes (propulsive maneuvers, etc.) as edges formulates a mathematical representation of this design space. The selection of a given system architecture using graph theory entails defining the paths that the systems take through the space system architecture graph. A path through the graph is defined as a list of edges that are traversed, which in turn defines functions performed by the system. A structure to compactly represent this information is a matrix, called the system map, in which the column indices are associated with the systems that exist and row indices are associated with the edges, or functions, to which each system has access. Several contributions have been added to the state of the art in space system architecture analysis. The framework adds the capability to rapidly explore the design space without the need to limit trade options or the need for user interaction during the exploration process. The unique mathematical representation of a system architecture, through the use of the adjacency, incidence, and system map matrices, enables automated design space exploration using stochastic optimization processes. The innovative rule-based graph traversal algorithm ensures functional feasibility of each system architecture that is analyzed, and the automatic generation of the system hierarchy eliminates the need for the user to manually determine the relationships between systems during or before the design space exploration process.     Full Text Available Abstract Background Computerized ICUs rely on software services to convey the medical condition of their patients as well as assisting the staff in taking treatment decisions. Such services are useful for following clinical guidelines quickly and accurately. However, the development of services is often time-consuming and error-prone. Consequently, many care-related activities are still conducted based on manually constructed guidelines. These are often ambiguous, which leads to unnecessary variations in treatments and costs. The goal of this paper is to present a semi-automatic verification and translation framework capable of turning manually constructed diagrams into ready-to-use programs. This framework combines the strengths of the manual and service-oriented approaches while decreasing their disadvantages. The aim is to close the gap in communication between the IT and the medical domain. This leads to a less time-consuming and error-prone development phase and a shorter clinical evaluation phase. Methods A framework is proposed that semi-automatically translates a clinical guideline, expressed as an XML-based flow chart, into a Drools Rule Flow by employing semantic technologies such as ontologies and SWRL. An overview of the architecture is given and all the technology choices are thoroughly motivated. Finally, it is shown how this framework can be integrated into a service-oriented architecture (SOA. Results The applicability of the Drools Rule language to express clinical guidelines is evaluated by translating an example guideline, namely the sedation protocol used for the anaesthetization of patients, to a Drools Rule Flow and executing and deploying this Rule-based application as a part of a SOA. The results show that the performance of Drools is comparable to other technologies such as Web Services and increases with the number of decision nodes present in the Rule Flow.     Despite recent advancements in software architecture knowledge management and design rationale modeling, industrial practice is behind in adopting these methods. The lack of empirical proofs and the lack of a practical process that can be easily incorporated by practitioners are some of the hindrance for adoptions. In particular, the process to support systematic design reasoning is not available. To rectify this issue, we propose a design reasoning process to help architects cope with an architectural design environment where design concerns are cross-cutting and diversified.We use an industrial case study to validate that the design reasoning process can help improve the quality of software architecture design.     Abstraction fosters reuse by providing a class of artifacts that can be instantiated or customized to produce a set of artifacts meeting different specific requirements. It is proposed that significant leverage can be obtained by abstracting software system designs and the design process. The result of such an abstraction is a generic architecture and a set of knowledge-based, customization tools that can be used to instantiate the generic architecture. An approach for designing software systems based on the above idea are described. The approach is illustrated through an implemented example, and the advantages and limitations of the approach are discussed.

    The NASA Constellation Program is aiming to establish a long-term presence on the lunar surface. The Constellation elements (Orion, Altair, Earth Departure Stage, and Ares launch vehicles) will require a lunar navigation architecture for navigation state updates during lunar-class missions. Orion in particular has baselined earth-based ground direct tracking as the primary source for much of its absolute navigation needs. However, due to the uncertainty in the lunar navigation architecture, the Orion program has had to make certain assumptions on the capabilities of such architectures in order to adequately scale the vehicle design trade space. The following paper outlines lunar navigation requirements, the Orion program assumptions, and the impacts of these assumptions to the lunar navigation architecture design. The selection of potential sites was based upon geometric baselines, logistical feasibility, redundancy, and abort support capability. Simulated navigation covariances mapped to entry interface flightpath- angle uncertainties were used to evaluate knowledge errors. A minimum ground station architecture was identified consisting of Goldstone, Madrid, Canberra, Santiago, Hartebeeshoek, Dongora, Hawaii, Guam, and Ascension Island (or the geometric equivalent).

Thus, the overall aim of this thesis is the development of approaches, techniques, and tools towards artificial design assistants that offer a capability for generating drafts for sub-tasks within design processes. In this regard, "sustainability" concept emerged and the architectural platform "Sustainable Architecture" is composed of a research subject to the new and permanent. Architecture underlying the "design" as including also the new concept of "sustainable architectural design" has revealed that field. Sustainable architecture "building in-house", "building envelope" and "physical environment" as shown in three different areas of development. Each consisting of three fields that directly affect andconcern. Sustainable architectural design within the scope of this study, "Building Envelope" developments will be discussed. In this context, building envelope, "the new building design" and "existingstructures" as appeared in two different ways. CAD/CAM technologies opened up new opportunities by allowing design and production of complex geometric shapes. One of the first applications of computational process in architecture was based on using shape grammars, a rule-based expert systems in artificial intelligence generating geometric shapes. Early applications of shape grammars in art and architecture started shortly after its invention during the 70ies and 80ies of the XX century, however, their potential as a generative design tool still has not been fully exploited in practice. This architecture supports model-driven development and integrates information system design with its executable form. It is possible to extract design anytime, modify it, and load back to change the activity and behavior of information system. In this approach, the application logic represents solely functionality and can be described either by sequential model of Windows Workflow Foundation or by UML activity or interaction diagrams. In an embedded system, the hardware and software components are so intertwined that evolution is often a big issue. Thanks to the contributions of virtualization it is possible to design more flexible and scalable embedded systems. In fact, virtualization adds an abstraction layer between the hardware and the software to make it less intimately dependent. In this paper we propose system architecture based on embedded virtualization that will be modeled by the multi-agent systems. In the first part, we will discuss the state of the art with respect to embedded systems, multi-agent systems and the concept of virtualization. In the second part, we explain theissues related to traditional embedded systems and the constraints associated with their architecture. Subsequently, we propose a virtualization based architecture for embedded systems. In the last part we will showcase this architecture through a prototype.

In this paper, the ergonomics perspective is revisited which hence focuses on the conditional factors involving organisational, psychological, social and population as a whole. This paper tries to highlight the functional and architectural integration with ecstatic elements in the form of decorative and ornamental outlay as well as incorporating the building structure such as wall, domes and gates. This paper further focuses the mathematical aspects of the architectural designs such as polar equations and the golden ratio. These designs are modelled into mathematical equations of various forms, while the golden ratio in mosque is verified using two techniques namely, the geometric construction and the numerical method. The exemplary designs are taken from theSabah Bandaraya Mosque in Likas, Kota Kinabalu and the Sarawak State Mosque in Kuching,while the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Mosque is used for the Golden Ratio. Results show thatIslamic architectural buildings and designs have long had mathematical concepts and techniques underlying its foundation, hence, a modelling approach is needed to rejuvenate these Islamic designs.

    This report describes the architectural design for a high fidelity simulation of a refinery and refinery burner, including demonstrations of impacts to the refinery if errors occur during the refinery process. The refinery burner model and simulation are a part of the capabilities within the Sandia National Laboratories Virtual Control System Environment (VCSE). Three components comprise the simulation: HMIs developed with commercial SCADA software, a PLC controller, and visualization software. All of these components run on different machines. This design, documented after the simulation development, incorporates aspects not traditionally seen in an architectural design, but that were utilized in this particular demonstration development. Key to the success of this model development and presented in this report are the concepts of the multiple aspects of model design and development that must be considered to capture the necessary model representation fidelity of the physical systems.

    We developed a new tool, Healthy Eating Design Guidelines for School Architecture, to provide practitioners in architecture and public health with a practical set of spatially organized and theory-based strategies for making school environments more conducive to learning about and practicing healthy eating by optimizing physical resources and learning spaces. The design guidelines, developed through multidisciplinary collaboration, cover 10 domains of the school food environment (eg, cafeteria, kitchen, garden) and 5 core healthy eating design principles. A school redesign project in Dillwyn, Virginia, used the tool to improve the schools’ ability to adopt a healthy nutrition curriculum and promote healthy eating.     Integrated Sensor Architecture (ISA) is designed in response to stovepiped integration approaches. The design, based on the principles of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Open Architectures, addresses the problem of integration, and is not designed for specific sensors or systems. The use of SOA and Open Architecture approaches has led to a flexible, extensible architecture. Using these approaches, and supported with common data formats, open protocol specifications, and Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) system architecture documents, an integration-focused architecture has been developed. ISA can help move the Department of Defense (DoD) from costly stovepipe solutions to a more cost-effective plug-and-play design to support interoperability.

While research has demonstrated associations between aspects of school environments and students' physical activity, the literature currently lacks a synthesis of evidence to serve as a practical, spatially-organized resource for school designers and decision-makers, as well as to point to pertinent research opportunities. This paper describes the development of a new practical tool: Physical Activity Design Guidelines for School Architecture. Its aims are to provide architects and designers, as well as school planners, educators, and public health professionals, with strategies for making K-12 school environments conducive to healthy physical activity, and to engage scientists in transdisciplinary perspectives toward improved knowledge of the school environment's impact. We used a qualitative review process to develop evidence-based and theory-driven school design guidelines that promote increased physical activity among students. The design guidelines include specific strategies in 10 school design domains. Implementation of the guidelines is expected to enable students to adopt healthier physical activity behaviors. The tool bridges a translational gap between research and environmental design practice, and may contribute to setting new industry and education standards.

  5. Layout pattern-driven design rule evaluation

    With the use of subwavelength photolithography, some layouts can have low printability and, accordingly, low yield due to the existence of bad patterns even though they pass design rule checks. A reasonable approach is to select some of the candidate bad patterns as forbidden. These are the ones with a high yield impact or low routability impact, and these are to be prohibited in the design phase. The rest of the candidate bad patterns may be fixed in the postroute stage in a best-effort manner. The process developers need to optimize the process to be friendly to the patterns of high routability impact. Hence, an evaluation method is required early in the process to assess the impact of forbidding layout patterns on routability. We propose pattern-driven design rule evaluation (pattern-DRE), which can be used to evaluate the importance of patterns for the routability of the standard cells and, accordingly, select the set of bad patterns to forbid in the design. The framework can also be used to compare restrictive patterning technologies [e.g., litho-etch-litho-etch (LELE), self-aligned double patterning (SADP), self-aligned quadruple patterning (SAQP), self-aligned octuple patterning (SAOP)]. Given a set of design rules and a set of forbidden patterns, pattern-DRE generates a set of virtual standard cells; then it finds the possible routing options for each cell without using any of the forbidden patterns. Finally, it reports the routability metrics. We present a few studies that illustrate the use cases of the framework. The first study compares LELE to SADP by using a set of forbidden patterns that are allowed by LELE but not by SADP. Another study compares LELE to extreme ultraviolet lithography from the routability aspect by prohibiting patterns that have LELE native conflicts. In addition, we present a study that investigates the effect of placing the active area of the transistors close to the P/N interface instead of close to the power rails.

First, the structure and parameters of the 21-level MMC-HVDC are designed. Second, the framework of the control system is studied in details and a complete control system is established. The communication mode and content are built between each layer, and the control system program is developed and debugged. Then The steady state test platform of the sub-module and the relevant control system are designed. Finally, the steady-state tests and the system test of the physical MMC-HVDC simulation system are conducted, which prove that the SMC can control the sub-module (SM efficiently, and the control system could realize efficient start and stop of the physical system. Meanwhile, the capacitor voltage balance between the sub-modules and the basic fault protection and control of the DC voltage and power are verified to be effective.

  11. Replacing design rules in the VLSI design cycle

    We make a case for the migration of Design Rule Check (DRC), the first step in the modern VLSI design process, to a model-based system. DRC uses a large set of rules to determine permitted designs. We argue that it is a legacy of the past: slow, labor intensive, ad-hoc, inaccurate and too restrictive. We envisage the replacement of DRC and printability simulation by a signal processing and machine learning-based approach for 22nm technology nodes and beyond. Such a process would produce fast, accurate, autonomous printability prediction for optical lithography. As such, we built a proof-of-concept demonstrator that can predict OPC problems using a trained classifier without the need to fall back on costly first-principle simulation. For one sample test site, and for the OPC Line Width error type OPC violation marker, the demonstrator obtained an Equal Error Rate of ca. 4%.

Via the American Bauhaus pedagogical developments taking place at the IIT and the GSD, Swedish architecture education adopted the artistic ‘learning by doing’ approach.The most interesting structure signifying this was a permanent exhibition of building materials located in the foreground of the 1957 KTH architecture school. When the new KTH architecture school was completed its architecture illustrated another image: that of the new architecture curriculum, A68, put into practice the same year as the building was designed. 
A68 reorganized architecture education and put more focus on environmental studies and building function analysis.The new curriculum included the subjects Formlära, Design Principles, and Byggnadsfunktionslära, Building Function Analysis, which were technical in their approach of using empirical research. As a result, the 1969 KTH architecture building included a laboratory for testing technical problems in air-conditioned spaces as well as a laboratory for testing acoustics. The 1961 LTH architecture building included a full-scale-laboratory where studies were directed by Carin Boalt, the first female professor at a technical university.

    Optimization of architecture design has recently drawn research interest. System deployment optimization (SDO) refers to the process of optimizing systems that are being deployed to activi-ties. This paper first formulates a mathematical model to theorize and operationalize the SDO problem and then identifies optimal so-lutions to solve the SDO problem. In the solutions, the success rate of the combat task is maximized, whereas the execution time of the task and the cost of changes in the system structure are mini-mized. The presented optimized algorithm generates an optimal solution without the need to check the entire search space. A novel method is final y proposed based on the combination of heuristic method and genetic algorithm (HGA), as wel as the combination of heuristic method and particle swarm optimization (HPSO). Experi-ment results show that the HPSO method generates solutions faster than particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algo-rithm (GA) in terms of execution time and performs more efficiently than the heuristic method in terms of determining the best solution.

    Most existing system-on-chip (SoC) architectures are for microprocessor-centric designs. This paper analyzes these characteristics and gives design princi-ples for computing intensive SoCs. Three architectures suitable for different situations are compared with selection criteria given. The architectural design of a high performance network security accelerator (HPNSA) is used to elaborate on the design techniques to fully exploit the performance potential of the ar-chitectures. A behavior-level simulation system is implemented with the C++ programming language to evaluate the HPNSA performance and to obtain the optimum system design parameters. Simulations show that this architecture provides high performance data transfer.

The research method included concurrent qualitative and quantitative analyses of data. Data analysis procedure was conducted through descriptive statistical analysis and by sorting thematic information for Initial categories, which were defined by the theoretical foundation. The researchers found that users' perceptions fell into two distinct groups. Gothic period is a movement which ends the Midde Age and opens Renaissance. Alth ough seen in all branches of the art, Gothic is widely a style of architecture. Having been originated from the Roman architecture, Gothic Architecture come out in the second half of the 12th century and continued its existence until the half of the 16th c entury when classical architecture come out. In Europe, Gothic painting, sculpture and architecture were dominant and preserved its popularity until the Renaissance. Fashion means all the temporary new styles which come out in a certain period of time with the desires of dressing up, being different, wearing the most desirable. Although seen as two different design field, when we examine closely, we can see that fashion and architecture has many common point from the past to present. As man is the common po int of this two field, they naturally affect each other. Gothic architecture inspired clothing designs, which is enough to show how much they affected each other. In this study, our purpose is to reveal effects of the Gothic architecture on the clothing d esigns. The style used in the Gothic period architecture and models and styles in clothing designs was presented with the help of table of specification. According to this, both fields' sharing common aesthetic concern and same theoritic and ideologic bas e was accompanied by stylistic and structural similarities accordingly. Designers in this two different fields turned even to themselves for inspiration and technical strategy. Environmental and cultural factors affect both fashion designers and architects . When seen as a part of historical process, clothes and buildings with their important cultural and economic conditions are priceless anthropological buildings which show technological developments within the period.

In this paper we propose a new method to design action rules of agents in artificial society that can realize given requests using genetic algorithms (GAs). In this paper we propose an efficient method for designing the action rules of agents that will constitute an artificial society that meets a specified demand by using a GAs. In the proposed method, each chromosome in the GA population represents a candidate set of action rules and the number of rule iterations. While a conventional method applies distinct rules in order of precedence, the present method applies a set of rules repeatedly for a certain period. The present method is aiming at both firm evolution of agent population and continuous action by that. Experimental results using the artificial society proved that the present method can generate artificial society which fills a demand in high probability.

  13. Mapping Rule-Based And Stochastic Constraints To Connection Architectures: Implication For Hierarchical Image Processing

    Essential to the solution of ill posed problems in vision and image processing is the need to use object constraints in the reconstruction. While Bayesian methods have shown the greatest promise, a fundamental difficulty has persisted in that many of the available constraints are in the form of deterministic rules rather than as probability distributions and are thus not readily incorporated as Bayesian priors. In this paper, we propose a general method for mapping a large class of rule-based constraints to their equivalent stochastic Gibbs' distribution representation. This mapping allows us to solve stochastic estimation problems over rule-generated constraint spaces within a Bayesian framework. As part of this approach we derive a method based on Langevin's stochastic differential equation and a regularization technique based on the classical autologistic transfer function that allows us to update every site simultaneously regardless of the neighbourhood structure. This allows us to implement a completely parallel method for generating the constraint sets corresponding to the regular grammar languages on massively parallel networks. We illustrate these ideas by formulating the image reconstruction problem based on a hierarchy of rule-based and stochastic constraints, and derive a fully parallelestimator structure. We also present results computed on the AMT DAP500 massively parallel digital computer, a mesh-connected 32x32 array of processing elements which are configured in a Single-Instruction, Multiple Data stream architecture.

In order to provide a maximally flexible solution, the proposed design philosophy yields two open source utilities Donkey and MIDAS written in Grashopper algorithm editor and C++, respectively, that are to be linked with a scripting-based architectural modellers Rhinoceros(C), AutoCAD(C) and the open source Finite Element solver OOFEM. The emphasis is on the mechanical response of designed objects in order to provide architects with a consistent learning framework and wise insight into structural behaviour of their artworks. As demonstrated on several case studies, the combination of the utilities may handle objects of considerable structural complexity and boosts the algorithmic architectural design in terms of accelerating the process of finding procedural design parameters from orders of weeks to days or hours.

    Development of capital intensive systems, such as offshore oil platforms or other industrial infrastructure, generally requires a significant amount of capital investment under various resource, technical, and market uncertainties. It is a very challenging task for development co-owners or joint ventures because important decisions, such as system architectures, have to be made while uncertainty remains high. This paper develops a screening model and a simulation framework to quickly explore the design space for complex engineering systems under uncertainty allowing promising strategies or architectures to be identified. Flexibility in systems’ design and operation is proposed as a proactive means to enable systems to adapt to future uncertainty. Architectural and operational flexibility can improve systems’ lifecycle value by mitigating downside risks and capturing upside opportunities. In order to effectively explore different flexible strategies addressing a view of uncertainty which changes with time, a computational framework based on Monte Carlo simulation is proposed in this paper. This framework is applied to study flexible development strategies for a representative offshore petroleum project. The complexity of this problem comes from multi-domain uncertainties, large architectural design space, and structure of flexibility decision rules. The results demonstrate that architectural and operational flexibility can significantly improve projects’ Expected Net Present Value (ENPV), reduce downside risks, and improve upside gains, compared to adopting an inflexible strategy appropriate to the view of uncertainty at the start of the project. In this particular case study, the most flexible strategy improves ENPV by 85% over an inflexible base case.

    Cultural values frame architectures, and architectures motivate infrastructures — by which we mean the foundational telecommunications and Internet access services that software applications depend on. Design is the social process that realizes architectural elements in an infrastructure. This process is often a conflicted one where transformative visions confront the realities of entrenched power, where innovation confronts pressure from institutionalized interests and practices working to resist change and reproduce the status quo in the design outcome. We use this viewpoint to discuss design aspects of the Urban-net, a broadband civic networking case. Civic networks are embodiments of distinctive technological configurations and forms of social order. In choosing some technological configurations over others, designers are favoring some social structural configurations over alternatives. To the extent that a civic network sets out to reconfigure the prevailing social order (as was the case in the Urban-net project considered here), the design process becomes the arena where challengers of the prevailing order encounter its defenders. In this case, the defenders prevailed and the design that emerged was conservative and reproduced the status quo. What steps can stakeholders take so that the project’s future development is in line with the original aim of structural change? We outline two strategies. We argue the importance of articulating cultural desiderata in an architecture that stakeholders can use to open up the infrastructure to new constituents and incremental change. Next, we argue the importance of designing the conditions of design. The climate in which social interactions occur can powerfully shape design outcomes, but this does not usually figure in stakeholders’ design concerns.

Therefore, this research is held to define these mosques’ spatial andarchitectural design aspects which were considered as appropriate for the needs of their local communities’.As a descriptive-qualitative architectural research, the methods employed in this research are (1 fieldsurveying, (2 architectural documenting, and (3 informal interview, which were held in three purposivesample of mosques: Masjid An-Nur Jagalan, Masjid Gading Pesantren, and Masjid Jami’ Kauman Malang. The advanced Concurrent Computing architecture performs a simultaneous use of both parallel and distributed computing. The full architecture of quintuple processor core designed for realistic to perform arithmetic, logical, shifting and bit manipulation operations. The proposed advanced quintuple processor core contains Homogeneous RISC processors, added with pipelined processing units, multi bus organization and I/O ports along with the other functional elements required to implement embedded SOC solutions.     The cost of the central register file and the size of the program code limit the scalability of very long instruction word (VLIW) processors with increasing numbers of functional units. This paper presents the architectural design of a six-way VLIW digital signal processor (DSP) with clustered register files. The archi-tecture uses a variable length instruction set and supports dynamic instruction dispatching. The one-level memory system architecture of the processor includes 16-KB instruction and data caches and 16-KB in-struction and data on-chip RAM. A compiler based on the Open64 was developed for the system. Evalua-tions show that the processor is suitable for high performance applications with a high code density and small program code size.

    Electromagnetic vibration transducers are seen as an effective way of harvesting ambient energy for the supply of sensor monitoring systems. Different electromagnetic coupling architectures have been employed but no comprehensive comparison with respect to their output performance has been carried out up to now. Electromagnetic Vibration Energy Harvesting Devices introduces an optimization approach which is applied to determine optimal dimensions of the components (magnet, coil and back iron). Eight different commonly applied coupling architectures are investigated. The results show that correct dimensions are of great significance for maximizing the efficiency of the energy conversion.   11. Scaling to Nanotechnology Limits with the PIMS Computer Architecture and a new Scaling Rule.

    We describe a new approach to computing that moves towards the limits of nanotechnology using a newly formulated sc aling rule. This is in contrast to the current computer industry scali ng away from von Neumann's original computer at the rate of Moore's Law. We extend Moore's Law to 3D, which l eads generally to architectures that integrate logic and memory. To keep pow er dissipation cons tant through a 2D surface of the 3D structure requires using adiabatic principles. We call our newly proposed architecture Processor In Memory and Storage (PIMS). We propose a new computational model that integrates processing and memory into "tiles" that comprise logic, memory/storage, and communications functions. Since the programming model will be relatively stable as a system scales, programs repr esented by tiles could be executed in a PIMS system built with today's technology or could become the "schematic diagram" for implementation in an ultimate 3D nanotechnology of the future. We build a systems software approach that offers advantages over and above the technological and arch itectural advantages. Firs t, the algorithms may be more efficient in the conventional sens e of having fewer steps. Second, the algorithms may run with higher power efficiency per operation by being a better match for the adiabatic scaling ru le. The performance analysis based on demonstrated ideas in physical science suggests 80,000 x improvement in cost per operation for the (arguably) gene ral purpose function of emulating neurons in Deep Learning.

In thinking of a composite application that stitches together the capabilities of multiple services, any action in the composite app should ideally check the access control rules of all constituent services before initiating an action. The WebServices Access controls are categorized according to access control granularity and have two approaches: The first approach supports a negotiation-based attribute-based access control to Web Services with fine access granularity. The second approach is tailored to access control for conversation-based Web services and composite services;where in a Web Service is not considered as a set of independent operations and therefore access control must take such dependencies into account. During a Web Services invocation, a client interacts with the service, performing a sequence of operations in a particular order called conversation. In this paper, we want to propose strategies for analyzing and managing Role Based Access Control policies for designing Security Architectures for web services.   15. Extraction of design rules from multi-objective design exploration (MODE) using rough set theory

    Multi-objective design exploration (MODE) and its application for design rule extraction are presented. MODE reveals the structure of design space from the trade-off information. The self-organizing map (SOM) is incorporated into MODE as a visual data-mining tool for design space. SOM divides the design space into clusters with specific design features. The sufficient conditions for belonging to a cluster of interest are extracted using rough set theory. The resulting MODE was applied to the multidisciplinary wing design problem, which revealed a cluster of good designs, and we extracted the design rules of such designs successfully.

    CONSPECTUS: Heterogeneous metal nanocrystals (HMNCs) are a natural extension of simple metal nanocrystals (NCs), but as a research topic, they have been much less explored until recently. HMNCs are formed by integrating metal NCs of different compositions into a common entity, similar to the way atoms are bonded to form molecules. HMNCs can be built to exhibit an unprecedented architectural diversity and complexity by programming the arrangement of the NC building blocks ("unit NCs"). The architectural engineering of HMNCs involves the design and fabrication of the architecture-determining elements (ADEs), i.e., unit NCs with precise control of shape and size, and their relative positions in the design. Similar to molecular engineering, where structural diversity is used to create more property variations for application explorations, the architectural engineering of HMNCs can similarly increase the utility of metal NCs by offering a suite of properties to support multifunctionality in applications. The architectural engineering of HMNCs calls for processes and operations that can execute the design. Some enabling technologies already exist in the form of classical micro- and macroscale fabrication techniques, such as masking and etching. These processes, when used singly or in combination, are fully capable of fabricating nanoscopic objects. What is needed is a detailed understanding of the engineering control of ADEs and the translation of these principles into actual processes. For simplicity of execution, these processes should be integrated into a common reaction system and yet retain independence of control. The key to architectural diversity is therefore the independent controllability of each ADE in the design blueprint.   20. A quantitative approach to nonlinear IC process design rule scaling

    As minimum dimensions in integrated circuit technologies are reduced beyond 0.1 m m, linear process scaling becomes more difficult and costly. Exponentially rising manufacturing facility and process scaling costs can be better managed by performing nonlinear process shrinks. Nonlinear scaling allows the horizontal design rules to be reduced by different factors according to their ability to provide area and performance improvement in a cost effective manner. This thesis describes a methodology and CAD tools for use in selecting nonlinear design rule reduction ratios that make effective tradeoffs between die cost and performance. The cost effectiveness of nonlinear scaling is demonstrated for a complementary GaAs (CGaAsTM) process. CGaAs is a young technology with coarse design rules that would benefit significantly from a nonlinear shrink. The cost/benefit analysis for scaling the design rules is based on a process-independent optimizing SRAM compiler which was developed as part of this work. The methodology for nonlinear scaling includes identifying the rules which have the greatest impact on circuit area and analyzing the area and performance improvements as these rules are scaled through a range of practical scale factors. Benefit data (product of power and delay improvement ratios) is then combined with die cost estimates at each step to yield the cost/benefit ratio, a quantitative metric for design rule reduction. The slopes and inflection points of cost/benefit vs. scale factor plots guide process engineers in selecting reduction ratios for the various design rules. This procedure should be repeated, using the results of one pass as the starting point for the next. The cost/benefit analysis methodology compares embedded static RAMs that are generated by the PUMA process-independent SRAM compiler.     The computerization of Intensive Care Units provides an overwhelming amount of electronic data for both medical and financial analysis. However, the current tarification, which is the process to tick and count patients' procedures, is still a repetitive, time-consuming process on paper. Nurses and secretaries keep track manually of the patients' medical procedures. This paper describes the design methodology and implementation of automated tarification services. In this study we investigate if the tarification can be modeled in service oriented architecture as a composition of interacting services. Services are responsible for data collection, automatic assignment of records to physicians and application of rules. Performance is evaluated in terms of execution time, cost evaluation and return on investment based on tracking of real procedures. The services provide high flexibility in terms of maintenance, integration and rules support. It is shown that services offer a more accurate, less time-consuming and cost-effective tarification.     The architectural choices in the unit design have to do with the amount of storage and the type of storage in the unit, the type of high-speed interface, the type of echo-protection features, the FEC encoding, and the degree of human interface for testing and maintenance. Since the interpolation process takes time, the unit is by necessity memory-oriented, and an efficient choice of memory architecture is cardinal. The two principal design choices are referred to as 'oorder and storage' and 'storage and order.' Store-and-order implies storage of data on all received channels (regardless of whether they are to be processed), followed by data routing for selected channels. Order-and-store implies immediate selection of the traffic to be processed. The architecture is also affected by the choice of interface between the DSI (digital speech interpolation) and the 'satellite' side equipment. Although the principal choice is between word- and bit-oriented data transmission, tradeoffs exist involving handshaking for control signals as well.

    The research project 'An analysis of the accessibility requirements' studies how Danish architectural firms experience the accessibility requirements of the Danish Building Regulations and it examines their opinions on how future regulative models can support innovative and inclusive design - Universal Design (UD). The empirical material consists of input from six workshops to which all 700 Danish Architectural firms were invited, as well as eight group interviews. The analysis shows that the current prescriptive requirements are criticized for being too homogenous and possibilities for differentiation and zoning are required. Therefore, a majority of professionals are interested in a performance-based model because they think that such a model will support 'accessibility zoning', achieving flexibility because of different levels of accessibility in a building due to its performance. The common understanding of accessibility and UD is directly related to buildings like hospitals and care centers. When the objective is both innovative and inclusive architecture, the request of a performance-based model should be followed up by a knowledge enhancement effort in the building sector.   16. Undergraduate courses for enhancing design ability in naval architecture

    Contemporary lectures in undergraduate engineering courses typically focus on teaching major technical knowledge-based theories in a limited time. Therefore, most lectures do not allow the students to gain understanding of how the theories are applied, especially in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering departments. Shipyards require students to acquire practical ship design skills in undergraduate courses. To meet this requirement, two lectures are organized by the authors; namely, "Planning Procedure of Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering" (PNAOE) and "Innovative Ship Design" (ISD). The concept of project-based and collaborative learning is applied in these two lectures. In the PNAOE lecture, sophomores receive instruction in the designing and building of model ships, and the students' work is evaluated in a model ship contest. This curriculum enables students to understand the concepts of ship design and production. In the ISD lecture, seniors learn how to develop their creative ideas about ship design and communicate with members of group. They are encouraged to cooperate with others and understand the ship design process. In the capstone design course, students receive guidance to facilitate understanding of how the knowledge from their sophomore or junior classes, such as fluid mechanics, statics, and dynamics, can be applied to practical ship design. Students are also encouraged to compete in the ship design contest organized by the Society of Naval Architects of Korea. Moreover, the effectiveness of project-based and collaborative learning for enhancing interest in the shipbuilding Industry and understanding the ship design process is demonstrated by citing the PNAOE and ISD lectures as examples.

  19. Group sequential designs with prospectively planned rules for subpopulation enrichment.

    We propose a class of randomized trial designs aimed at gaining the advantages of wider generalizability and faster recruitment while mitigating the risks of including a population for which there is greater a priori uncertainty. We focus on testing null hypotheses for the overall population and a predefined subpopulation. Our designs have preplanned rules for modifying enrollment criteria based on data accrued at interim analyses. For example, enrollment can be restricted if the participants from a predefined subpopulation are not benefiting from the new treatment. Our designs have the following features: the multiple testing procedure fully leverages the correlation among statistics for different populations; the asymptotic familywise Type I error rate is strongly controlled; for outcomes that are binary or normally distributed, the decision rule and multiple testing procedure are functions of the data only through minimal sufficient statistics. Our designs incorporate standard group sequential boundaries for each population of interest; this may be helpful in communicating the designs, because many clinical investigators are familiar with such boundaries, which can be summarized succinctly in a single table or graph. We demonstrate these designs through simulations of a Phase III trial of a new treatment for stroke. User-friendly, free software implementing these designs is described. With the guidance of the agent, the user will parametrically design the product using a 3D environment. After the design phase, the agent will submit the design as a contract. The model consists of a collection of fully interconnected nanoscale computing modules, where each module is a cube of cells made out of quantum dots, spins, or molecules. The cells dynamically switch between two states by quantum interactions among their neighbors in all three dimensions.
